Writers such as James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Zora Neale Hurston, Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ibram X. Kendi, and Nikole Hannah-Jones are just a few of the names found on book ban lists. Why? Because they are good writers and ‘touch life often.’

Nothing in Amanda’s poem remotely suggests what she claims justifies having this book banned. She is an opportunist taking advantage of the dumbass laws DeSantis pushed through his State Legislature to make Florida an autocratic state.

In the statement Payton Gendron read, he said; “That day (May 14, 2022), I made a horrible mistake. I killed individuals by shooting them because they were Black." This is an affront to the relatives of those he murdered! No, Payton Gendron, you didn’t make a mistake. You deliberately set out to kill as many Black people as you could.

I think about all the times I didn’t vote because of my religious beliefs, and I get angry. How could I allow a religious construct to keep me from doing something so many Black people gave their lives for?

Unfortunately for reprobates like Alex Jones, compensatory and punitive damages of any amount will not stop a congenital liar like Jones. He and others like him are amping up their game, and frankly, they don’t give a damn who gets hurt in the process.

We are at war right now and we just lost a major battle. Those intent on crushing our democracy are energized by their coup over the majority and they're frothing at the mouth to build upon it. This is a time for bold statements and rallying cries, for leadership on what specifically we can do now and what we need to do in November and beyond to win this war. This is the time for action.
