In the face of a president struggling to become a monarch, an entire political party bowing in fear to him and the attempted destruction of the rule of law and The Constitution, history will remember the defiant and brilliant Democrats who fought the righteous fight to protect our democracy and our freedom from tyranny (yes, I’m looking at you Mr. Schiff).
So this weekend’s music thread is dedicated to the Democrats in Congress who are using their consciences and sense of duty to stop the aspiring tyrant in the White House.
Songs about gratitude, strength, wisdom and fighting the good fight are the evidence and witnesses in this hearing.
Now it’s your turn to let your music make the case against Trump or give props to the Democrats fighting hard and smart to defend our democracy.
I came of age with overtly, unapologetically left wing political rock like Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down and transgressive anarchistic Industrial like KMFDM, Front 242 and such. Punk like the Sex Pistols, Hoi Polloi, even more radio friendly Clash rocking the casbah [to my ears it’s tame like the Ramones – and well, explain Joey Ramone and Morrissey to me. Kid Rock, Ted Nugent and even Alice Cooper I get – but coming from a Laibach fan immersed in goth and industrial fascistic irony, there are a few artists that make me say… huh? We lost the late, great Saint Neil Peart, who was a small ‘l’ libertarian, but he made it clear he was a Libéral, Canadian version. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth was so insane Metallica kicked him out early on and Alex Jones would too]. Whatever, artists don’t have to be liberal. It just keeps kicking me in the head about musicians and comedians and creativity-at-large in relation to conservative politics. It makes as much sense to me as Log Cabin Republicans, Jews for Jesus or Melania’s Be Best.
That being said, and gauging my audience, the Chad Mitchell Trio was pretty hard core subversive and still relevent in the same vein as Rage or System of a Down or KMFDM. We just express it differently now – and I’m no spring chicken, but we’re still saying the same things… fighting the same battles.
Hallelujah for Adam Schiff and the Democrats fighting for our Democracy and The Republic.
Balderdash with this nation states and major chords and being predictable.
I’m against that sort of pablum, sophistry and … boredom.
Vincero – I will triumph!
