Is it my forgetfulness or are the Obamas the first First Couple in our lifetime to use money to buy things for themselves? I can’t recall a single instance when previous presidents entered stores, shopped openly, and then PAID for things. Too many follow the British Royal Tradition of never having money on them and never buying things themselves. The reason I think this is important (though not very) is that I do think that tends to keep them in touch with what ordinary people experience.

I found the photo at Yahoo news this morning. It was taken during his recent trip to Iowa. The picture has him in a bookstore shopping for books for his daughters. Not a PS.
