CL….they will never accept that truth….never……there was a local man who I vaguely knew who was at the capitol on Jan 6. He ended up being tried. He spent six months in jail and has a large fine. He did not seem to me to be a crazy but rather a follower of the crowd of Magats. He came home and has been very quiet but he has made it clear that he will never have anything to do with that movement ever again…..in part because conditions of his probation and parole require that….and for this. he is being condemned and harassed.

TW…..the Eastern Empire had a licensing procedure that included standards of a religious association to be recognized as a state religion. There were several. The benefit to the Empire was alliances with those groups who benefited from stability and a religious “quality control” that made all of them institutions in support of a state that supported them.

Murph – It’s not over yet but the GOP is a cult. Without its cult leader, Trump, it’s aimless and will fall apart. A number of people will try to claim the mantle of being Trump’s heir but that doesn’t work in cults. And Trump will likely still be alive, just in prison so he will be their cult leader en absentia. But gone from view which means powerless.
