I think we see in Biden the benefit of having a very experienced legislator at the national level in the WH….and I think he crafted things such that McCarthy was put into a position where all he had to do was to get moderate support from what passes as moderate on the right. Not- despite the threats…no move to have that “vote of confidence” that McCarthy was forced to accept….why? cannot get enough votes for him to lose the vote of confidence (maybe with some Dem help…..)

Ad….I agree with your assessment of Biden. I think Biden played McCarthy very skillfully offering him enough support to neuter any threat of a no confidence vote. McCarthy will continue to make noise but he seems to be a useful tool

Murph – I think Biden just kept telling McCarthy that there was no way he could get enough Dem votes in The House to pass a bill if anything really awful was in it. And the oligarchs who own the GOP surely ordered McCarthy to make a deal and not allow the debt ceiling to not be raised.
