Vox Populi, our weekly live chat about the week’s events, begins tonight at 7:00pm PST. Hope to see you then! AdLib 4 hours ago
Hey PPO! AdLib 2 hours ago
Hey Murph! AdLib 2 hours ago
Hi CL! AdLib 2 hours ago
Hello all! Good to see you! choicelady 2 hours ago
Took me a little extra effort to pop in here tonight but all is well! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Greetings to Ad, Choice, and PPO! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – I tried to reset the site tonight to avoid issues. Better than when you couldn’t get on last week but not flawless. AdLib 2 hours ago
Sorry, Folks! have to go get tested for COVID! I was somewhere a positive body was, so must Quarantine and get tested right away. See you all next week!\ pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago
OK – Murph, I have eye problems, as I think you know. I read that as “took me a little time to poop in… And I thought that VERY un-Murph intimacy. I definitely need the cataract surgery… choicelady 2 hours ago
Oh no, PPO! Get tested and will send positive vibes. AdLib 2 hours ago
OH NO!!! Hope you are OK and not exposed. choicelady 2 hours ago
Ad…it worked! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Thanks. Ad. Yes, apparently, Tier2 whatever that means. So I’ve at least had the first jab pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago
Murph – Glad to hear! Frustrating to see the issues you had last week. AdLib 2 hours ago
OOOOOHHHHHH NOOOOO PPO! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Wonder where PPO was exposed to Covid? AdLib 2 hours ago
He was just somewhere a contagious person was, so we’ll hope for the best. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL…Popping, pooping; tomAEto, toMAHto! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Did you hear that the new Merck tablet should help people who aren’t vaccinated avoid severe ICU visits? If they market it in a horse shaped bottle, it could really get a lot of use. AdLib 2 hours ago
I don’t know – are he and Fergie vaccinated? I will worry less if they are. choicelady 2 hours ago
Murph – I think pop v poop is a bit more significant that tomato variants!!! choicelady 2 hours ago
Some news from the association……..we are growing….three more members of the co-op came over to “the dark side” and joined us. The co-op become a snake pit. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
CL – He and Fergie have had one shot which is good but they haven’t gotten their 2nd yet. AdLib 2 hours ago
I did hear that, Ad. I wonder if the jerks will take it or treat it the same way they do the vaccine? choicelady 2 hours ago
Oh, Murph – that is EXCELLENT news!!! choicelady 2 hours ago
Ad, Horse Shaped Bottle? MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Oh, damn – well better one than none. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL…it is….. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – so the Covidiots can pretend they’re ingesting horse dewormer. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL….ah, faux dewormer….duh and hah! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – Great news, would be fitting for the old co-op to “die on the vine”. AdLib 2 hours ago
Murph – the reason you don’t get that joike is because you’re sensible. choicelady 2 hours ago
Ad….the old coop is moribund I suspect. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
CL – That’s why I say Merck should name it, “Libtard”. AdLib 2 hours ago
Murph – the fact that some of the old coop members are willing to come over the The Light (YOU aren’t the ‘dark side’) is extremely encouraging. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL…I know many who would not regard me as sensible or sane…..most belong to the co-op MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – You got it! AdLib 2 hours ago
Ad –
choicelady 2 hours ago
CL….encouraging but largely a practical necessity….but I will take it. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – So the co-op is already dead? Perfect, since it will soon be followed by the remaining anti-vax members. AdLib 2 hours ago
Think upon the larger picture – a community that hunkered down w Donnie. That stood mute over the Black farmers, that showed fear -and now aren’t. NOW ARE NOT. This is a major BIG DEAL. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL – Thanks! Use their hatred to protect everyone, “What’s worse than taking a vaccine? Letting the Demoncrats have a win! Take Libtard and own them commies!” AdLib 2 hours ago
Ad – You will be our PR guy for the Merck pills!!! choicelady 2 hours ago
Remember the guy I told you all about who was a virulent anti vaxxer, got COVID and passed away…the pickup truck hearse and the three trump flags and 1 american flag….big funeral….And the follow up – wife got and passed away, then one of their adult sons. My sources say that nearly 50 people are part of spread….Here is what they are saying: “We were poisoned by the FBI- our well water.” MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
CL – The only drawback is that Libtard won’t deworm Trumpers. AdLib 2 hours ago
Murph – the demented always have a scapegoat. Always. The less demented come over to the Light. choicelady 2 hours ago
Ad – “Let ’em have worms” said the Not Marie Antoinette… choicelady 2 hours ago
CL, I agree that the moves represent a wide acceptance of our black farmer friends but also a willingness to set aside their warped approach to engagement. The most radical are holding with the co-op. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
What I hate about this time in history is how much my compassion for asshats has eroded. I seriously feel nothing when they sicken and die. And that’s not me. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL…I agree with you wholeheartedly. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – You have to work really hard to be such morons. It isn’t easy. But fine, let them thin the herd voluntarily, they are more dangerous to society while they can still breathe spores. AdLib 2 hours ago
Murph – that’s fine. When the coop falters, and it will, you will see what happens to the holdouts. choicelady 2 hours ago
Agree with you both. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
I re-read the 1964 Harper’s article, “The Paranoid Style in American Politics” by Hofstader (sp?) We do this periodically. Not sure why. choicelady 2 hours ago
There was an interesting school board meeting here last week that turned into a melee…..50 or so people. The police rounded everyone up and took their ids so they could file their reports. Guess what…of the 50 or so who were the disruptors only three were parents…there were a number of folk outside the district. Provocateurs. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
From the early days of the Frontier we have feared the intellectual, the scientist, the knowledgeable people. We have trumped (TM) up conspiracies against Masons, Catholics, Illuminati, and every other damned thing. I do NOT understand it. There is something in the water. I want BBB and infrastucture to get the damned lead out of the damned pipes for starters. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL – I think we have hit the end of the line on these hateful morons. Now, it is, “I have the freedom to infect and kill everyone including you, my spouse and my kids!” You have that on one side and the majority of decent Americans threatened by them. How does one feel empathy towards those who would happily kill children, grandparents and families just to express hatred of most Americans. I can no more feel sorry for Trumpers who die of Covid than for terrorists who die after threatening innocent people. There is not a huge difference between such ideological menaces. AdLib 2 hours ago
Ad – back in the town halls on ACA we had this happen. Stopped it cold by demanding ID at the doors as proof you lived in the districts. We need to do that again for EXACTLY this reason. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL…..there has been a strain in U.S. history….US vs THE OTHERS. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – that’s Hofstader’s position. We have long felt under siege when nobody is laying it. choicelady 2 hours ago
Because the article was 1964, he doesn’t have anything recent but he does finger McCarthy and Welch among others on “commies”. It’s all the same thing. choicelady 2 hours ago
Ad….I hear your sentiment being expressed more and more. I know people in the medical community and they are beyond fed up ESPECIALLY AT THOSE IN T HEIR RANKS WHO ARE REFUSING THE SHOTS! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – Yes, this is what we discussed last week. There is clearly a “Tea Party” type astroturf organization of RW funders behind the “protests” against masks and vaccines. It is not a coincidence they are all so frothing at the mouth when they protest and not local parents or residents. I think it is part of the multi-pronged attack to tear down our democracy and cement an autocracy. These are just the morons who are pawns or paid props. AdLib 2 hours ago
Ad and Murph – I believe in triage for mass casualty events. I believe in the “Plague Hospital”. It is the height of irresponsible medicine to treat everyone the same when it means those w treatable conditions are turned away to die. choicelady 2 hours ago
DEMAND ID at all school board meetings, all town halls, all Congressional District open houses. You have to be a constituent or OUT. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL…..Richard Hofstadter (August 6, 1916 – October 24, 1970)……he missed so much of what he predicted….his “frontier theory” of American development had an important tenet: the border is not just geographical, it is social. Thus Native Americans had no place. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
CL – If we have learned anything it is that The GOP and Trumpers always project what they are doing to smear the Dems. They come out constantly with BS conspiracies Dems are engaged in (or Jews, PoC, etx.) but the truth is that they are engaged in a conspiracy all across the country to cancel democracy, grab authoritarian power and satisfy the the followers whipped up by hatred by trying to harm women, minorities and those who can be portrayed as “the enemy” and “the other”. AdLib 2 hours ago
Murph – thanks for looking up the spelling. He is correct. And the Federalist Society is taking this to the limit. choicelady 2 hours ago
Ad…the Tea Party is alive and sick but wearing other faces……The Koch’s and Fox – that is their legacy. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
CL – Demanding ID is exactly what should be done at all town halls and school board meetings now. AdLib 2 hours ago
I hope you both have read “Democracy in Chains” that I referenced before. It carries Hofstadter’s thesis into today. choicelady 2 hours ago
The GOP is what they claim others are….it is childish nastiness in adult bodies….. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
I will look up the reference CL. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Ad – it’s what we started doing up here over ACA town halls. Like Barney Fife: “Nip it in the bud!” choicelady 2 hours ago
Murph – yes, the GOP are immature brats calling us that. choicelady 2 hours ago
CL…although Barney was more likely to be one the crazies I expect. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – I don’t think so. Andy Griffith was a man of good temperament who would have steered Barney well. He would get het up and Andy would talk him down. choicelady 2 hours ago
Murph – I don’t think it’s a lessening of empathy to not feel sorry for those who die of Covid after refusing to get vaccinated because such people are infecting and possibly killing other innocent people, even vaccinated ones. I do think the medical community needs to triage patients, those who are vaccinated are primary and those unvaccinated must be last to get treatment and prevented from filling up beds that a non-threatening person may need. AdLib 2 hours ago
Ad – totally agree on triage. choicelady 2 hours ago
My sister works as a speech pathologist specialist in restoring breathing, swallowing and eating functions in those who were intubated and then extubated. Her hospital has a four state triage system…and because they are so powerful they are getting away with putting the unvaccinated at the end of the line…..and she is in Texas. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
I wonder, what percentage of Repub rural voters will be shaved down after dying from Covid. Repubs may be legislating against Dems voting but will that be evened out by the thousands more Repub voters who are dying? AdLib 2 hours ago
Hey Khirad! AdLib 2 hours ago
Hooray for your sister’s system!!! choicelady 2 hours ago
Khirad!!!! choicelady 2 hours ago
CL….oh I agree that Andy would have been a tempering agency but remember that Mayberry is in NC but is virtually black-free! Hmmmmm. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Don’t know how long I’ll stay but love the support here. Khirad 2 hours ago
Murph – true, but Andy Griffith the actual person was quite liberal. choicelady 2 hours ago
Andy Griffith was super considering Khirad 2 hours ago
Glad to see you Khirad! choicelady 2 hours ago
Even cooter was Khirad 2 hours ago
Murph – But what was the suddenly vanished Tea Party? Just a privately funded social army, camouflaged as “grass roots” but just paid stooges doing what their wealthy paymasters ordered them to do. No different from Trumper anti-vaxxers. AdLib 2 hours ago
Ad….here in mo the rural areas have a far higher death rate than the urban and suburban ones but the folks don’t seem take a lot notice of this. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Agreed – there was great gentleness in those characters. choicelady 2 hours ago
Hello K….how we be supportive tonight. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago
Murph – how can they NOT NOTICE??? choicelady 2 hours ago
The Tea Party is as you said and my thesis is that it is just wearing a new mantle today. Like the right wing press, they are a ready tool in the box. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
How the Tea Party and MAGA crowd can hold different views but is the same base implies so many things on a thesis level towards Glass Bead Game Khirad an hour ago
Jinx Murph Khirad an hour ago
K…Glass Bead Game? MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Hermann Hesse, that was my own touch Khirad an hour ago
Murph – Glad to hear that your sister’s org is doing that, good and considerate Americans shouldn’t die because selfish, hateful Americans are monopolizing care. AdLib an hour ago
K…Hah! Jinx! MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
We said thesis both though! Khirad an hour ago
So we did. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Ad….the president at MD Anderson has had to have security guards at his home in Houston. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
You could make a conspiracy theory out of it all! Khirad an hour ago
Ad – I want both triage and the Plague Hospital. We did it w polio, TB, and other diseases. They need to quarantined Away from general hospitals. choicelady an hour ago
Murh – holy smokes! They’re beginning to do this to everyone. MY problems pale in comparison. choicelady an hour ago
Murph – I saw one report that rural Repubs are dying at 5 times the rate of Dems. Then today, another report said it was 2 to 1. In any case, we see the GOP and Fox murdering their own people at a far greater rate than Dems are dying. What are they thinking? And why do you think that for one moment, Fox and Repubs suddenly declared everyone should get vaccinated then went silent and contrary to that within the last few months? AdLib an hour ago
K – the whole of America is one big conspiracy theory./ choicelady an hour ago
In case nobody was interested, lil’ Nietzsche von Meowzersteins is still super affectionate Khirad an hour ago
K – LOL! choicelady an hour ago
Ad….the plot to create a permanent minority government here will result in much less need for poor, foolish, stupid, right wing cannon fodder. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
As a conspiracist told me it just means breathing together. Duh… Khirad an hour ago
K- hilarious and insightful. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Murph – What is a bit crazy is how we are taking for granted, as a society, that anyone who stands up to Trump or the GOP is now having their life threatened on a regular basis. This is not normal, this really needs to be stomped out by an expanded DoJ. AdLib an hour ago
Who remembers the Dewey Decimal System or like me having a pretty big bookshelf and cursive and taking notes? Well, today ‘RESEARCH’ means FB and YouTube Khirad an hour ago
Ad – for once, having “gone public” again against the religious right, I am NOT being stalked. You cannot imagine how restful it is… choicelady an hour ago
Ad….I have made it quite clear here….that any effort to terrorize those with whom I am so closely associated will meet stiff legal, social and armed resistance. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
CL – Once again, completely agree with you! Let’s put up tents in hospital parking lots that stay there until Covid id beaten. Unvaccinated go there no matter what, hospital beds are only for those who are vaccinated. AdLib an hour ago
K – I HATE the online research options at the EXPENSE of books. I’m Library of Congress myself, but reading in depth is important. I read such crap online. choicelady an hour ago
Ad – I’m with you on that. choicelady an hour ago
K…as a former academic I can say that rapidity at which so-called research is now done is a certain path to absurdity enshrined as doctrine. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
I had an intern who had NO idea what the “Reader’s Guide to Periodical Literature” was or any of the other indices. How do you get a BA and not know that? choicelady an hour ago
Not only that, Murph. A minority government will crystallize a Civil War. When democracy is dead, the majority is not just going to sit around and be dominated by dictators. AdLib an hour ago
Murph – perfectly said. choicelady an hour ago
CL, I meant it’s a thing for flat earth’s (it’s a thing), and antivaxxers to call watching internet and TikTok research. I have nothing against the inernet with valid sources Khirad an hour ago
Repubs are so delusional, they don’t understand that millions of Dems have guns too. AdLib an hour ago
Anderson actually opened up a building it had bought and was planning to demolish to use for wards dedicated to the unvaccinated. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
The Founding Fathers decried minority power. So much for “originalism” in today’s GOP. choicelady an hour ago
AdLib, remember my gun meme? Khirad an hour ago
CL..thanks. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Good for Anderson. GOOD FOR THEM. choicelady an hour ago
CL…your intern reminds me of a number of my grad students who looked on life in the stacks at the library as a relic best set aside. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
I’m about to go. Who is interested in the German Election results? Unlike the Canadian results, the German ones might take a while. Khirad an hour ago
I will celebrate any doc in the Anderson Plague Ward wearing “Plague Masks” while treating patients. We’re back to those days, so why not go the whole nine yards? There are Plague Masks for sale online. choicelady an hour ago
K – I really don’t know what happened in Germany well enough to comment. Or Canada. What’s YOUR take on them if you have time? choicelady an hour ago
Plague masks were largely a myth – or short lived – but as a goth they are badass. Khirad an hour ago
K – I know that, but yes, they rock. I want to see them again. choicelady an hour ago
I have time time, what do you want to know? Khirad an hour ago
Did Germany go backwards now Merkle is gone? choicelady an hour ago
CL…but the Founding Fathers are responsible for a Constitutional Structure that has led to minorities exercising enormous power. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
German elections are complicated but more fair Khirad an hour ago
Merkel was Center-Right Khirad an hour ago
Oy… Khirad an hour ago
Murph – there is LESS power for minorities than the GOP insist they have. choicelady an hour ago
She was Center RIGHT? choicelady an hour ago
Hello all sorry I’m late had some connection problems seems to be okay now. twilson117 an hour ago
Hey TW! Welcome! PPO had to bunk – he was COVID exposed. We’re worried. choicelady an hour ago
K…Merkle’s impact on political philosophy in Germany is her most significant legacy. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Yes, the Christian Democrat Union – she is German center right Khirad an hour ago
Hey CL hope PPO is okay twilson117 an hour ago
Murph – I like her. choicelady an hour ago
TW – we do, too. I will worry until he gets his test results. choicelady an hour ago
Merkel was my favorite conservative ever. Sui generis. Khirad an hour ago
Khirad – Yep, I remember that meme. Spot on! AdLib an hour ago
K – if Merkle is conservative, somehow it escaped me. choicelady an hour ago
I need to write something on Germen politics. Khirad an hour ago
K – please do., choicelady an hour ago
Hey TW! Glad you made it! Please note your username, I noticed that you were trying to login with a different username. AdLib an hour ago
Because Merkel would be a Centrist Democrat here. Khirad an hour ago
CL PPO is fully vax right? twilson117 an hour ago
CL..the electoral college, Senators chosen by state legislatures, a representative apportionment system that was built for corruption, the separation of the legislative and executive branches…were all measures that made the few mighty……. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
K – OK , that makes sense. choicelady an hour ago
Hi TW MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
I knew several Marxist sociologists from Germany back in the day. Claus Offe et al. They weren’t actually very Left. They also seemed more like FDR Dems. choicelady an hour ago
So will people read me writing an article on German politics? Cause, I got stuff to do, but will write it Khirad an hour ago
Ad yes I noticed that as well but it wouldn’t let do anything. Had some problems logging in tried clearing cash didn’t seem to work then all of sudden got access. twilson117 an hour ago
I’ll read it. I’m WAY out of touch on German politics. choicelady an hour ago
CL, they were prolly SPD Khirad an hour ago
K – not sure, but I think you’re correct. choicelady an hour ago
Okay, Tschüß alle freundin! Khirad an hour ago
K – I read all of your articles….in fact I read the Planet generally…Ad, you TW etc. I wish I had time to engage in discussion and write myself but… MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Murph – We can never forget that The Founders did not believe in the right to vote. If you were black, a woman or not a property owner, they did not want you voting. Also, many aspects of the structure of our government was to prevent “the unwashed majority” from choosing those in power. AdLib an hour ago
Murph – same here. I’m overloaded with obligations. choicelady an hour ago
Hey folks did you see where Cory Lewandowski got bounced and there is a rumor that he and Noem were having an affair which she is denying? twilson117 an hour ago
Ad…that is correct….they may have been influenced by the enlightenment but they were not enlightened political philosophers. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Ad – let me slightly correct that. Black, women but NOT indigenous people HAD the right to vote in New England. And they did. I did original research and found that. But it did not morph into most post Constitutional state laws save in New Jersey. choicelady an hour ago
Poor Cory, poor Noem, NOT MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
TW – That’s odd. Email the details of what you experienced. The site showed you using an email address as your username and it blocked you automatically after multiple tries with a non-existent username. I unblocked you (and sent you an email to help you login). AdLib an hour ago
Yes Murph – soap operas loom large w the GOP. choicelady an hour ago
Hey Murph I cried but it was becasue I was laughing so hard.
twilson117 an hour ago
TW – I don’t think that was a rumor, I think it is pretty accepted that she did have an affair with her, hence her “firing” him. Because of course, she has no responsibility for cheating on her husband. Probably is proud of doing so, the Trump base loves cheats. AdLib an hour ago
Did you see Noem rationalized helping her daughter bypass rules as “modernizing” the system???? choicelady an hour ago
Everyone – the fundament of the “born again” religious right is that once you’ve taken Jayzus into your heart, you can do ANYTHING YOU WANT. Must be nice. choicelady an hour ago
Ad I will check out your email on the login issue. twilson117 an hour ago
Murph – Like most human beings, The Founders were flawed and having that power to shape a nation made them quickly turn to, “We can’t have the majority taking power away from us! We are best suited to decide who the powerful should be.” AdLib an hour ago
CL….but….the power of the religious right has really been sapped in the last two years….COVID has demoralized their churches….. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Ad as to Cory and Noem well what can one say. I’m sure her husband will have a lot to say.
twilson117 an hour ago
Ad – that was a concern – the Mob – but things quickly changed as unpropertied white males demanded equality in voting, followed by loud voices from women. It was Black people who had the worst time of it, but yes, that changed, too. choicelady an hour ago
CL – Very interesting, I did not know that about New England. So not as racist as they could have been but still racist against Native Americans. AdLib an hour ago
Ad….they were flawed but also cynical I think. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
CL born again Christians are a — well let just say a strange lot. Not all of them as some are pretty decent and don’t take them selves too seriously but the ones who do well, to me they are Satan’s spawn. twilson117 an hour ago
CL – Noem is such a corrupt PoS. And of course, Repub voters who brag about being Christian will be unaffected in their support for a cheat and a corrupt woman that used her position to benefit her daughter and harm those who didn’t bow to her. AdLib an hour ago
They were definitely racist against First Nation’s people. But if you had Personal Property (tools of your trade) which MOST craftspeople did or if you were in a household where the man was gone, disabled, dead, women voted. If you were a single woman, you voted. Several Black craftspeople owned real estate and voted. It was not what we know from the 19th C. on. choicelady an hour ago
CL – That is hopefully why the born again Christians are shrinking quickly in numbers. Younger people see them as hateful bigots who simply hide behind the cross. AdLib an hour ago
Remember – voting was at the TOWN level. When gov’t shifted to state and federal levels, lots of things changed for the worse for those other than propertied white guys. We know our history from Victorian days not from colonial roots. choicelady an hour ago
TW – My email to you was just a note on your correct username to login with, twilson117. AdLib an hour ago
CL…you have good handle on the availability of the vote but a lot of the vote was controlled by political power brokers who use patronage, crowd events, and fear to shape the vote. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Ad – PRRI that polls and reserches religion said the Right has plummeted from 23% of America to 13%. That’s a HUGE loss in a couple of decades. This is why they’re so desperate. choicelady an hour ago
TW – Yes but what kind of man would marry such an awful human being as Noem? Would he suddenly care that she was unprincipled? AdLib an hour ago
SO, choice who is voting for the right wing loons that seem to dominate the GOP? Only 13 percent? MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Ad – NOT in colonial towns. The idea there was a power block of rich property owners and town gov’t is wrong. The rich did NOT figure into even the Great and General Court of colonial MA and certainly NOT at town meetings. That is what happened AFTER the creation of states and a federal gov’t. choicelady an hour ago
They really are a minority, Murph, but they have influenced the ‘worried middle’ too much. When you see people rushing to get vaxxed, it’s THAT group – the worried middle – who are seeing the light. choicelady an hour ago
CL – Yes, the voting restrictions were all changed but it took a Civil War and allowing Prohibition to do so. And even so, governments legislate to take voting rights away from PoC and women. AdLib an hour ago
CL…the worried middle have been led astray but deep right has so because it understands how anxioius and angry the middle is. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
There is no doubt a conservative mainline not nuts Protestant group – Southern Methodists for instance. But they are malleable not totally insane. choicelady an hour ago
Ad I suspect at some point the two of them were compatible, but who knows what happens later in life to cause disruption. Maybe she was charmed by CL. If you buy that, would you be interested in a nice bridge or a set of toll booths I can let you have at a nice discount? twilson117 an hour ago
Good point, CL, the change from local town voting to state and federal voting did help make changes. Now, what do we do about TX and FL? AdLib an hour ago
This is why I think Biden can change things – he IS from that ilk, and if we do FINALLY get infrastructure and BBB passed, those fear begin to decline. But the racism is still deep in the bones, and that’s a key fear we aren’t yet addressing. choicelady an hour ago
Ad – I think the utter screw ups of Abbott and DeSantis will cause a major shift in those states. choicelady an hour ago
CL – Yes, that is an enormous decrease for the gious Right. As you say, a real motivator to end democracy and install a dictator before even that becomes impossible. AdLib an hour ago
CL…DeSantis is running for President! MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
CL I think what John Jay wrote in Federalist 2 sums it up. twilson117 an hour ago
That is what needs watching – what “Democracy in Chains” discusses. It’s the secular right now. They are effing scary. choicelady an hour ago
So what is going to happen with the reconcilation bill and Sinema and Manchin. AdLib an hour ago
I meant, “?” AdLib an hour ago
Which, TW – I am not good on Federalist Papers exegesis! choicelady an hour ago
I think Sinema has some serious screws loose. AdLib an hour ago
Ad – well, yes, she’s plumb nuts. But I think at the end of the day they will vote with us. choicelady an hour ago
One of my friends here is the principal elder in his Baptist Church’s leadership…..he tells me that the congregation at his church is 25 percent of what it was pre covid and there are no signs of a widespread return. Covid has broken the contract that these people thought they had with God. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Murph – that is very sad, but it’s opening eyes. choicelady an hour ago
CL Jay said: Providence has been pleased to give this one connect country to one united people a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language profession the same religion attached to the same principles of government very similar in their manners and customs… twilson117 an hour ago
TW – I’ll take that bridge and tollbooths if they’re handy! AdLib an hour ago
Ad will be delivered as soon as your check clears. twilson117 an hour ago
TW….John Jay! MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Ad Yes John Jay in Federalist 2. twilson117 an hour ago
TW – OK. I have read that. And inherent in that is a resistance to immigrants NOT British born. My family, w some Mayflower roots, certainly DAR, resisted all others. Said they’d destroy exactly that sense of unity. Well, they did. And…so what? choicelady an hour ago
TW…you are a font of Federalist Insight. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
CL – I am appreciating the mounting pressure on Manchin and Sinema from Dems in Congress and the public. Manchin insisting on the Hyde Amedment to be included? Sinema refusing to say why she opposes the BBB AND stating she won’t vote for any tax increases. They need to be tied to a political post and have a fire set under them until they concede. 98% of the country is represented by all others in Congress, these two have no right to ignore their own voters and the vast majority of Americans to benefit their own careers. They are both corrupt but Sinema seems mentally deranged. AdLib an hour ago
Ad I find reading them interesting in light of what is taking place and basically their overall nature and view of the world at that time seems to have relevance to the issues we are dealing with today. twilson117 an hour ago
TW – Will you take Bitcoin? AdLib an hour ago
THE key worry I have is that the Federalists are rejecting Common Law and moving toward continental-based Roman Code. Why that matters is Common Law allows us to challenge from the streets, to find redress in the courts. Roman Code vests all law in the legislature making it largely unchangeable. Why we have few revolutionary actions and Europe has them repeatedly. choicelady an hour ago
CL yes. They were very resistance to immigrants which is really laughable when you consider that’s what most of them were. twilson117 an hour ago
I think it is time to take to my bed……but this discussion was enervating. See you all next week! Murph
MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
Ad which one?? twilson117 an hour ago
Murph – I think they agreed w (gag) Ann Coulter – we weren’t immigrants! We were settlers! choicelady an hour ago
Murph take care. twilson117 an hour ago
CL….settlers….yep…. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
CL – Add to that, the role that a politically corrupt SCOTUS plays in the downfall of democracy. Have you ever seen multiple SCOTUS spread out around the country at the same time to both criticize the press for calling them on their corruption while evidencing their corruption by attending partisan events? AdLib an hour ago
G’night Murph – see you soon I hope. I need to do the same. Driving to the SF airport area to see a friend from TX (liberal) I want to persuade to be part of an amicus w the NAACP/LDF suit against TX voting laws. So I need to hit the road fairly early. Good night. GREAT conversation. Next week I hope! choicelady an hour ago
The SCOTUS must be enlarged to take away power from these corrupt people. AdLib an hour ago
Ad – I believe in court expansion yes. choicelady 44 minutes ago
G;night! choicelady 44 minutes ago
Night CL! AdLib 44 minutes ago
Well Ad it’s just me an you for the moment. twilson117 44 minutes ago
Once again, we get to close the bar, TW. AdLib 44 minutes ago
Yes one last round. twilson117 44 minutes ago
So about logging in it said I was trying to use my email? twilson117 43 minutes ago
My daughter has been playing games on Saturdays but they aren’t streaming them until the season starts next Spring. She’s doing well though! AdLib 43 minutes ago
So your daughter is adjusting to college life ok? twilson117 42 minutes ago
Yes, maybe it was saved in your browser as a password but it showed you using your email address as your user name. AdLib 42 minutes ago
I think so, it’s officially 1 month since she moved in there this weekend. She says she likes her classes, teammates, roommate, etc. So it seems that all is going well. AdLib 41 minutes ago
That’s interesting. I thought something was wrong with my laptop so I went to my other one (I’m using it now) had the same problem but when you cleared it I got on. Strange. twilson117 41 minutes ago
She did enjoy the care package we sent her this week. AdLib 40 minutes ago
They always love the care packages. twilson117 40 minutes ago
You may need to delete the saved password and user for the site, sometimes the wrong ones get in there and you just click to sign on without realizing. AdLib 39 minutes ago
What does she think of the weather? It’s been pretty nice with a few rainy days, but for the most part nice fall days. twilson117 39 minutes ago
In your browser, that is. AdLib 39 minutes ago
I will try to remember that next time. twilson117 38 minutes ago
I think she’s enjoying the climate. When it turns very cold, which I know, it may or may not, then she will learn something new about living in Boston. AdLib 38 minutes ago
She has been excited about seeing snowfall, she hasn’t seen much of that. AdLib 38 minutes ago
Yes, as I said the winters here can be unpredictable at times. twilson117 37 minutes ago
They get to play in FL during the Winter, for a weekend in Feb then again over Easter Break, we may fly out to see her play but only if Covid is really under control in FL. AdLib 36 minutes ago
Since it’s a tournament, the games should be streamed anyway. AdLib 36 minutes ago
Ad I really wonder if COVID will ever be under control. twilson117 36 minutes ago
So what is she taking this semister? twilson117 35 minutes ago
I think COVID will be under control in many Dem states, including MA and CA. We are constantly gaining on vaccinations towards herd immunity or something close to that. But red states? Covid may never go away, just go up and down and cause other states to do the same, more or less depending on their vaccination numbers. AdLib 34 minutes ago
She has to take all core classes as a Freshman. Calculus, English, History, Computers, etc. AdLib 32 minutes ago
I agree with your assessment on how COVID will be handled in Dem states. Here in MA we seem to have it under control. I still carry a mask with me. twilson117 32 minutes ago
Well that sounds like a heavy load with a lot of writing. I would think with the History and English classes. twilson117 31 minutes ago
MA is doing even better than CA or close to it which I’m very happy to hear. We will be living in states that will eventually have more than 90% vaccinated so we will be okay. But red states? I think they will continue getting infected and dying in similar numbers to where they are now…until enough of the anti-vaxxers die or suffer and get the vaccine. AdLib 30 minutes ago
Yes but she had heavy class schedules in HS so while it is still a lot, she at least has been through working hard to get homework done and tests studied. SO hopefully, the distractions of college don’t hinder her too much. AdLib 29 minutes ago
My granddaughter lives in a red state but she is vaccinated. twilson117 29 minutes ago
TW – That’s a relief. I would guess she’s pretty thoughtful about not getting exposed to people with Covid, being your daughter. AdLib 28 minutes ago
She not looking to pledge a sorority is she? twilson117 28 minutes ago
Not that I know of. Don’t know how she’d have time for a sorority with her class schedule and softball schedule. AdLib 27 minutes ago
The softball team is a kind of sorority. She went with other players to watch the Red Sox play at Fenway last Sunday. AdLib 27 minutes ago
Ad let me say my daughter-in-law is not one of my favorite people. We have cordial conversations when I talk with her. But I not happy with various situations. twilson117 25 minutes ago
Yes her softball teammates will be far better than some college sorority. twilson117 24 minutes ago
Actually I don’t know if Bentley has any Greek organizations. twilson117 23 minutes ago
That’s so disappointing, when you get stuck with a child’s spouse who is not ideal. You have so little control over the day to day of your granddaughter’s life. That has to be terribly worrisome and frustrating. I cross my fingers and hope that my daughter ends up with a spouse I could like but I don’t know. AdLib 23 minutes ago
Yep, they have frats and sororities. I was never a frat kind of person so I had no interest in joining one. Don’t know how my daughter feels about it. AdLib 21 minutes ago
You’re right about that. If I had the means and the room I would have tried to work something out for or granddaughter to live with us, but circumstances didn’t allow for that. So we make due with the situation. The Pandemic put a major crimp in our summer plans. She usually comes up and spends the summer with us and my daughter. Hopefully we can get back to that next year. twilson117 19 minutes ago
How old is your granddaughter? AdLib 18 minutes ago
She is 14 will be 15 later this month. twilson117 17 minutes ago
Such a pivotal time in their lives. Hope all is good with her coming out next Summer. Do you see her over the holidays? AdLib 17 minutes ago
I hope as well. No we don’t see her during the holidays. She lives in Oklahoma. twilson117 16 minutes ago
That’s right, you told me. Just sayin’, who wouldn’t welcome the opportunity to take a vacation from OK? AdLib 14 minutes ago
We stay in touch with her on a fairly regular basis via phone. She calls on a somewhat regular basis. Usually when she wants something, like money
twilson117 13 minutes ago
Heh! Kids and grandkids have it figured out! AdLib 12 minutes ago
Yes, when she comes up for the summer she calls it her vacation to MA.. We do our best to spoil her while she’s hear. twilson117 12 minutes ago
I’m sure you spoil her like good grandparents do. Keeps her looking forward to the next time! AdLib 12 minutes ago
She has me wrapped around her little finger and she knows it. twilson117 11 minutes ago
We have to be measured about spoiling our daughter when she’s back, that is a tough temptation and I wouldn’t promise being the best at holding back. AdLib 11 minutes ago
My guess is your wife like mine will keep you in check. twilson117 10 minutes ago
Yep, they have such an advantage with loving grandparents (and parents), we just want to express how much we love them in every way. And they know it. AdLib 10 minutes ago
My wife spoils her as well, but she is very tempered about it they way she does her spoiling. And our granddaughter knows it. twilson117 9 minutes ago
Well, I have to be the one to pull the reins in on spoiling her, my wife couldn’t do enough for her. I spoil her a bit but I’m also the one who takes on the responsibility of keeping her grounded, grateful and unentitled. At least, that’s what I try to do. AdLib 8 minutes ago
Well you’ll have some holidays coming up to bring your daughter home. I’m guessing next month will be the big one with other family members. twilson117 8 minutes ago
I was wondering do you have any other children? twilson117 7 minutes ago
Yep, she’ll be coming out for Thanksgiving and Winter Break. Have to admit, it’s been pretty relaxing since she’s been at college but we will be so happy to see her. AdLib 7 minutes ago
No, just her. My mother lives out here so it’s not a big family in CA but she also has a big family on my wife’s side in TX. AdLib 6 minutes ago
Ok. You said you keep her grounded that’s good. We only children can get a bit full of ourselves.
twilson117 5 minutes ago
Oh yeah, ain’t that the truth! AdLib 3 minutes ago
Oh yeah. We have to be put in our place every so often. My wife does a good job of doing that to me.
twilson117 2 minutes ago
I have two siblings and I wouldn’t have wanted to handle the three of us as parents. Either way, one or multiple kids, it’s got its challenges. AdLib a minute ago
Well since we closed the bar, I think I need to get going. See you next week. twilson117 a few seconds ago
Sounds good! Have a great and relaxing weekend! See you here next week! AdLib in a few seconds
You as well. twilson117 in a few seconds
