will be there pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Ok! AdLib 3 hours ago

Well Ad…I am here…long time no see/hear. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

Hey….have you gotten any leads on why I am not getting article notifications….I get reply/comment notifications SO Strange! MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

Hey? Have you been working out? AdLib 3 hours ago

Hi, Murph! pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Hi, Ad. pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Who are asking, Ad, about working out. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

? pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Murph – It seems like a unique issue so it’s taking a bit more investigation. AdLib 3 hours ago

Both of you guys! AdLib 3 hours ago

Oh, nope! standard couch potato mode pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Ad…completely bizarre……I check the site a couple of times a day and I know we are having Vox so it is not a must for me but others it seems a draw….is anyone else having an issue? MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

Any family in Dorian’s path, either of you? pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Working out….when you farm you work out(side) all the time. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

PPO – Are you getting notification emails when a new post is published here? AdLib 3 hours ago

Murph, no, I tend to scan TO/OT and then Vox. pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

No, ad. Fergie does! pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Ad…did you send out a notification re. Vox tonight for instance? MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

PPO – Hmm, maybe you didn’t subscribe to email notifications and she did? AdLib 3 hours ago

Ad, where do you do that? pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

No Murph, I alternate on sending out posts on different weeks, kind of a study for me if it brings in more folks or not. AdLib 3 hours ago

Maybe I did something on my preferences that is accepting comment/reply notifications but does not call for article notifications. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

Ad, I follow POV onTwitter, but don’t get any notifications of postings there either pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

harleigh! pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

glenn pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Hi Harleigh…..and glenn…..we are having a discussion about notifications. I am getting e mail notifications for comments and replies but not for the new long posts/articles. Are you both getting all of the notifications? MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

I’m in ft laud 5 miles west of the beach… dun dun dun dun… LOL Harleigh 3 hours ago

Evenin’ gents. Harleigh, do you have all of your hurricane preps done? glenn 3 hours ago

Start diggin, H! pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Harleigh….OMG……are you ready for this….. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

PPO and Murph, try clicking the “Subscribe All” button on this page: https://planetpov.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=s2 AdLib 3 hours ago

No Hurricanes in Missouri. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

LOL PPO… here if you dig you drown Harleigh 3 hours ago

Hey glenn! Hey Harleigh! AdLib 3 hours ago

Done that, ad. We’ll see. I’ll let yu know pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

How is Hurricane Dorian and Donald Trump alike? They both blow yugely. AdLib 3 hours ago

Great, PPO! AdLib 3 hours ago

most forecasters say it will hit 50 to 100 miles from here but the winds extend 100 miles or so. Harleigh 3 hours ago

Harleigh, that’s reassuring….NOT pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Done….Ad. I clicked on Subscribe To All…..I am planning to post an article soon…maybe tonight…….if this is working I should get a notification re. my own article, yes? MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

H, is Mar-A Bedbugs still in the sights? pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

My proposition is that Trup should try out his theory and nuke Mar-a-Lago just as Hurricane Dorian hits it and see if that stops it. We’ll never know if we dont try! AdLib 3 hours ago

anyplce gets hit with cat 4 145 mph winds is toast…. verry soggy toast Harleigh 3 hours ago

Murph–Yes, I am getting my notifications for new posts/articles. glenn 3 hours ago

Murph, keeping my fingers crossed, hope it gets the notifications working! AdLib 3 hours ago

Ok….enough nigling re. site operations……… MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

Trump’s rubbing his hands to think the Gummint will pay for refurbishing his dump pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

I can tell you all that the farmers here are really starting to get pissed…….it started with one or two widely scattered but anger over a variety of Trump Admin policies, procedures, and services is growing. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

I am really torn. I am not rooting for FL to get hit hard by the hurricane but I really want Trump’s properties destroyed. And I know I can’t have one without the other. AdLib 3 hours ago

they say expect 10 – 20 inches of rain per day…. Harleigh 3 hours ago

Harleigh–Are you planning to evacuate? Although, this looks like the whole state will be affected, so don’t know where you’d go. You can always come up here to the mountains of GA!

glenn 3 hours ago

10 to 20 inches a day…..horrifying. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

PPO – Yes but imagine how much money Trump loses if his multiple properties in FL are out of business for a prolonged time. Even grafting money from FEMA won’t turn out better than having them operating. AdLib 3 hours ago

Murph–good, it’s about time those farmers should start getting pissed at the TLB. glenn 3 hours ago

Murph, if you’re inclined to be magnanimous, tell the soy farmers to contact Aussie Dept of Agriculture. Big drought here is causing huge shortage of soy beans pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

LOL I would glenn but the roads have been jammed for 2 days… I-95 AND I-75. Harleigh 3 hours ago

My Firday Night Music thread for Trump’s resorts to be flooded and floating out to sea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p77609cWO4U

AdLib 3 hours ago

Might be a hassle for the G6, er 5, er 4 meeting next time! pinkpantheroz 3 hours ago

Harleigh–yeah, that’s what I figured about the roads. Guess you’ll just have to batten down the hatches! My nephew lives in Port Salerno/Stuart area and he can’t get Hershey syrup, so he’s bummed! LOL! glenn 3 hours ago

Glenn….it requires them to set aside the notion that Trump is carrying the banner for them…that he has fooled them…that his motives are not their motives….it is a hard pill. They thought they had a champion when they felt they had not been represented in national government for so long….it did not matter if their gripes were real when they became articles of faith…but now they are being hurt by The Chosen One in a way that is hard to deny. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

Hareigh! I totally forgot you’re in FL! Whereabouts are you again? AdLib 3 hours ago

LOL if bug-aa-lago is hit Dolt will reap millions more than its worth from FEMA. Harleigh 3 hours ago

Ad….Randy Newman…how apropos. MurphTheSurf3 3 hours ago

ft lauderdale exactly 5 miles west of the beach. Harleigh 3 hours ago

Harleigh – Are you stocked up on supplies? Are you sitting it out? AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph–Yeah, I know it’s tough for those farmers. But as Leningrad Lindsey told them a few days ago, they have to swallow that pill before things become better. Or….something like that. So, if they can’t swallow the poison pill that the TLB is offering them, then I guess they’ll just have to take that pill that helps them instead of poisons them. Their choice! glenn 2 hours ago

I hope all those Russian Mums-to-be aren’t rethinking their decisions! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Ad has gone walkabout! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Another Topic……The Trump Admin decision to drop the Immigrant Medical Deferred Action Program (without notice) has hit one of the local hospital systems here that I know well. A doctor who is a friend says that there is a very heated conversation going on between their admin and the federal gov. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Does a hurricane get rid of bedbugs, or cause more because of the water? glenn 2 hours ago

can’t get out if we wanted… roads are clogged. funny thing is the storm id forecast to turn north and travel up those roads…. 145 mph wind…. lots of them will die. Harleigh 2 hours ago

glenn, the cockroaches take over pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Glenn…you bring up Lindsey…how much more can he dishonor the memory of McCain…..what a sniveling coward. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

BRB! AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph–it’s a feature of the TLB’s administration. Be as cruel as you can with as little notice as possible. glenn 2 hours ago

PPO–I think the cockroaches (with two legs) have already taken over FL! glenn 2 hours ago

Lindsey will be a stain on the underpants of history, whereas McCain will outshine most of the GOP forever. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Glenn…..I think that this charecteristic of the Trump Admin is magnified by the independence that people like Miller have to let their personal agendas move from concept to action with no checks or safeguards. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

LOL, g! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Murph–asking how much more Leningrad Lindsey can dishonor McCain is like asking how much lower the TLB can go. There is no bottom with either of them. We just keep going lower and lower. glenn 2 hours ago

So the Evangelicals claim to be Christians by cheering for killing children with cancer by forcing them out of hospitals and the country? AdLib 2 hours ago

glenn, but lower and lower is smaller and smaller. Misery fatigue sets in! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Ad…so much for being pro-life….. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

floriduh has more than it’s share of freaks, the headline lways starts with ‘Floriduh man….’ Harleigh 2 hours ago

Murph – Kind of confirms what we all knew, RW Christians aren’t pro-life, they’re just anti-wife. AdLib 2 hours ago

Harleigh, are you in a house or apartment? AdLib 2 hours ago

Ad….anti-wife? MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad, in despair that the Happy Clappies of this world don’t seem to grasp the dichotomy of their alleged ‘faith’. Suckers conned to the nth degree. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Ad…good question…Harleigh will you be sandbagging? MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph – Anti-woman/anti-wife (as opposed to “pro-life”). AdLib 2 hours ago

PPO….Happy Clappies!

MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph, Mrs H is out the back filling bags as he speaks!

pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Ad…got it. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

house… since 1993… on the highest spot in the county…. 13 feet above sealevel. Harleigh 2 hours ago

PPO…what an image…… MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Harleigh….13 feet should be enough…..what if you lose power….. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

PPO – It all goes to show that RWs oppose abortion because they don’t want women having power, they don’t give a crap about “life”. Especially lives of non-white people. AdLib 2 hours ago

Ad…what drives me insane is that there are so many women on the RW side of the fence in this. One I know well and we had a real set-to over this new Immigant policy. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad, sadly true, that to the Evigelicals, a little blob is more precious than a baby of any hue. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Murph–“with no checks or safeguards”…I think that’s the basis of the argument for impeachment. That’s what Congress is supposed to do. I know we have different views on when impeachment proceedings should begin, and what Pelosi should do, but my biggest argument for impeachment is let’s get this shit out in the open NOW. How much more damage are we going to allow the TLB and his administration to do? Can you just imagine if President Obama had trashed gwb overseas like the TLB did to PBO at the G7 summit? Can you imagine if PBO had twittered out classified information like the TLB did today with his picture? Can you imagine the outrage if PBO had lied to the American people over 10,000 times? It just blows my mind what this administration is getting away with. Oh, and just imagine the outrage if PBO and/or Pelosi had wanted to put gwb under oath, like Leningrad Lindsey wants to put PBO under oath. glenn 2 hours ago

Irma cost us power for a fucking month! all new poles ans lined then. I have 2 generators in the garage killed by ethanol. Harleigh 2 hours ago

Murph, Twitter is reporting that a lot of Trump Women have changed their minds. Too little, too late for me pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Glenn…not a thing there that I do not agree with on…..not a thing MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

So right, glenn. Don’t forget the 5th Anniversary of the dreaded……..Tan Suit!!!! Flee, Flee! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Harleigh…you are on top of it….congrats so many are not MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Harleigh – Hope that keeps you above the flooding and rising tides! Please keep us updated if possible, we’re thinking about you! AdLib 2 hours ago

PPO….I need to meet some of those women MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Harleigh–Yikes, that’s rough. Being in South Florida without power in Aug. sucks big time!! glenn 2 hours ago

PPO….they have been running clips of the rw coverage of the Tan suit…..hypocrisy to the nth degree. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

last time it brought cool 70 degree weather…. Harleigh 2 hours ago

PPO–Anyone who doesn’t vote for the TLB is a plus for me, no matter how late to the party they are! It may be too little, but it’s never too late, IMO. glenn 2 hours ago

fair enough, glenn. Yes any are a bonus. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

well tomorrow comes earlier. later folks Harleigh 2 hours ago

Murph–Thanks. glenn 2 hours ago

PPO–Oh, right…the tan suit scandal! Forgot about that! glenn 2 hours ago

‘Night, Harleigh, stay safe! glenn 2 hours ago

night, H pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Were any of you born overseas to serving military parents? What sadistic shit thoought this one up? pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Highly recommending the work of poltical scientist Rachel Bitecover…Watson Center for Political Study…re. election predictions. She has lifted my spirits considerably. Good article from Salon. https://www.salon.com/2019/08/17/this-political-scientist-completely-nailed-the-2018-blue-wave-heres-her-2020-forecast/ MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph–what’s your reaction to the TLB twittering out classified information? glenn 2 hours ago

I just hope that when the Dem takes over the WH, the MSM doesn’t give oxygen to the RW hysteria over the trivial crap like Obama’s tan suit. AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph–yeah, I read that article too. Hope she’s correct. glenn 2 hours ago

PPO….this notion that the child of an American citizen born off shore is not automatically a citizen is absurd beyond reason. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad, I hope that whoever takes the Oath Of Office in 21 wears a Tan suit or pant suit for the occasion! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Glenn…she has had good predictive models in four elections so far. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph – I featured Bitecover in my article on Biden, she affirms that Dems don’t need to go the Biden route of trying to win back Trump voters but the winning will come from exciting and turnout of the Dem base. AdLib 2 hours ago

Ad–If the rw hysteria over trivial crap will continue when a Dem is in the WH. That’s all they’ve got, and the MSM will cover it like it always does, because….both sides…. glenn 2 hours ago

Ad….you are the one who turned me on to her….which reminds me that I never commented on your article. I will do so…..good article by the way. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Does anyone buy into Fox’s attempt to slither back into mainstream media? pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

I think that Fox Folk are genuinely pissed that Trump outed them as drones for his Baboonship. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

And I don’t want to hear the word “deficit” from the mouth of one Repub when a Dem is in the WH! AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph – Oh! Got it! AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph and PPO–if I understand this new ruling about children born overseas, it applies to military members where either one or both are not US citizens, not to children born to US citizens. However, even parents who are US citizens must go through extra hoops to “register” their children, which will cost them more. glenn 2 hours ago

Ad…you may not want to hear it but they will trot out that chestnut the moment it is tactically called for… MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad, ….. nor manners, nor honor, nor integrity of this place, nor anything, really pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

PPO–A tan suit in January? Surely you jest! glenn 2 hours ago

CAmel Coat! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

PPO – I think folks are amused to see Fox backing away from Trump, seeing that he will go down like the Titanic meets The Hindenburg! And Trumpy is so sad that his state propaganda arm is distancing themselves from “the loser”. AdLib 2 hours ago

Ad, I will still never get Fox in my home. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Murph–“drones for his baboonship” LOL!

glenn 2 hours ago

PPO–Okay, a camel coat…..as long as it’s double breasted! glenn 2 hours ago

glenn – I don’t think that it’s Constitutional for Trump to claim the children of Americans aren’t Americans. Not that it matters to him but I think the first case fied against the policy will prevail. AdLib 2 hours ago

Glenn…it is the either one that puzzles me the most…..both parents convey citizenship. Now, the question is more understandable in relationship to neither parent being a citizen even though they are legally here…..does the birth count in the way that brth on u.s. soil applies….it has be common agreement…. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Hanniity and Adolf Tucker are still Herr Fullofit’s brownshirts. AdLib 2 hours ago

glenn, pity it won’t be a pant suit pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Murh – I know they’ll still whine about the deficit but the MSM had better slap that down and not echo it as legit. AdLib 2 hours ago

Don’t hear much, thank goodness about Sir Cumference de Limberger these days. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Ad….I find it amazing how little the MSM does in regard to the duplicity that such a position represents. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad–It will be “interesting” to hear what the rwnj’s will complain about, because as both you and PPO point out, the TLB has trashed manners, honor, integrity, our intelligence agencies, and everything else related to government. Of course, all of the TLB’s tweets will mean nothing when brought up against the repubs’ outrage about a Dem president. glenn 2 hours ago

Sir Cumference de Limberger….PPO, you are just too much! MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad–since when has the TLB cared about the constitution? glenn 2 hours ago

glenn, just thin k ab out all the counter ammunition Dems will hold the be able to say to the GOP to STFU pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Glenn…fine summary….as disturbing as it is. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

PPO–well, perhaps it could be a tan pant suit under a double-breasted camel coat, with tan pumps. glenn 2 hours ago

That’s a look, g! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Glenn….a real fashion statement. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

PPO–Yeah, Dems have a treasure trove of ammo to use. Hopefully, they WILL use it. glenn 2 hours ago

Hey….anyone have any thoughts on Boris Johnson’s moves in the UK. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph – It seems like the MSM is indifferent to truth, more driven by conflict and the veneer of looking impartial…when they’re really on the side of getting ratings through conflict. AdLib 2 hours ago

Ad….and that is the core…..ratings deliver the bottom line and that is what keeps media alive. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

PPO and Murph–Oh, and a nice, tan hat like Aretha Franklin wore to PBO’s inuagaration. glenn 2 hours ago

Murph – Boris is giving Trump some ideas about cutting out a branch of government to become a dictator. And in Boris’ case, he wasn’t even elected by the British people! AdLib 2 hours ago

Boris the Bulgarian is Trump2.0. Proroguing Parliament to prevent discussion. Sounds very Putinesque to me. All the Conservative leaders are RWNJs, determined to weaken the West for Russia pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

glenn – In reality, there is nothing that a Dem president could do that is “an outrage” after Trump and the silence and justifications Repubs and Fox News have made to make his outrageous legit. Nothing. They should all be attacked for even opening their mouths to complain about a Dem President after Trump. AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph–Boris is definitely the British version of our TLB. I didn’t know it was even possible to dissolve Parliament; what a bold move. I did read an article about one of the Kings of England (way back in the 17 or 18th century, I think) who dissolved Parliament for 11 years because they wouldn’t do what he wanted. He was finally beheaded. Do you think that will happen to Boris? glenn 2 hours ago

What Boris is doing is in line with past practice….new governments are given time to prepare a program to be presented via the Monarch’s annual address (which the PM’s circle writes) so that the program emerges as whole cloth. Debate then begins. In this case the urgency of the No Deal Brexit matter changes all of that. The Queen had no option and I do not know of a way to force the Parliament to remain open. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

oops. sorry pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

glenn, we can but dream… pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

PPO – I don’t even understand the political theory behind proroguing. How can it be democratic for one branch of government to just shut down another? And why is that necessary in political theory to do, as Boris lies about, presenting the Queen’s Speech on new policies? AdLib 2 hours ago

Ad–I agree with you 100% about rwnj outrage. But that doesn’t mean they won’t come up with something. It will probably have something to do with what a “socialist” country we are becoming under a Dem president. You heard it here first, folks! LOL! glenn 2 hours ago

The Queen is required by precedent to Prorogue the Parliament when the government requests it. Prorogation (pronounced ‘pro-ro-ga-tion’) marks the end of a parliamentary session. It is the formal name given to the period between the end of a session of Parliament and the State Opening of Parliament that begins the next session. The parliamentary session may also be prorogued before Parliament is dissolved. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

PPO – post the URL for the image you were posting and I’ll post it for you. AdLib 2 hours ago

Don’t worry, Ad. It was a shot of Aretha’s hat! pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Ad…remember that PM and the Cabinet are members of the House of Commons…separation of powers and the idea of branches is not part of British Law MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph–so do elections occur after the prorogation? Before the new session of Parliament begins? glenn 2 hours ago

Murph – As an outsider, proroguing is even more insane than the Electoral College! Why does Parliament need to be shut down for a PM to huddle in private with his allies and construct policy? Why is it democratic in any way to shut down criticism of policies that become public at any point? It is NOT a democratic process. AdLib 2 hours ago

PPO–Thanks for trying with Aretha’s hat! I promise, no more fashion statements! glenn 2 hours ago

One more thing….have you heard that Putin’s Russia is making an aggressive move on Georgia…..it’s Crimea all over again and what he wants to make permanent in Eastern Ukraine. In the meantime our ass in the WH says he wants to cancel military aid voted in truly bipartisan manner for the Ukraine and the GOP is largely silent. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

glenn – No question, the RW will howl about everything they can to attack the Dem resident, all I’m saying is that if the MSM gives it any credence after Trump, they need to be protested against and boycotted by Americans. No more of this intentional blindness towards BS. AdLib 2 hours ago

Glenn…..elections are not a part of this. The new government was created by the members of the Parliament who were elected in the last election nearly two years ago. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Putin wants to retake all the area that once was the USSR. And The USA and Nato are no longer strong enough to stop them. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Not trying to change the subject, because the British government and how it works is fascinating, and I don’t know enough about it to have an intelligent conversation. What do you all think of the idea of abolishing the Electoral College? Personally, I think it’s way past time to do that. From what I remember of my history classes (and, Murph, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong), the Electoral College was actually set up to let the “elites” of the time decide who was going to be president, rather than the “rabble” of the people themselves. glenn 2 hours ago

Ad…in the British system…the executive authority and legislative authority are nested in the Parliament with the House of Commons assuming a direct and active role and the House of Lords and indirect and passive role. Thus Parliament adjourns to allow its own members to focus all efforts on the creation of program to be presented by the monarch with debate ensuing thereafter. This Brexit deadline challenges the sanity of such a move. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Putin, IMO is really dumb. Instead of pissing Europe and the USA off, he should be making allies against the one country who lusts after Russian land – China. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Murph – They may be members of The House of Commons but the HoC represents democracy and the voice of the people. The PM, unelected by a national vote, does not. It is a de facto shutting down of the people’s power in government to shut down the HoC to allow an unelected (except by his own party) PM a clear field to do what he wants. It echoes a monarchy IMO. AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph–so, okay, the same people who are now in Parliament will be back in the new session? I don’t understand then, what the point of prorogation? Just to silence debate? Won’t that debate occur when Parliament is back in session? glenn 2 hours ago

The electoral college was intended to both provide a balanced representation among all of the states so that those with the largest populations would be able to force their choice upon those with smaller populations…..AND it was meant to provide a body of electors representing the “stakeholders” to mediate election results. The popular vote was always seen as consultative until states began passing laws that required electors to reflect that popular vote in the state. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Boris’ Brexit will be an unmitigated disaster if no deal is made. They had 3 years to work out trade/border/travel rights. None are agreed yet. And then there’s the little matter of a 100 mile joint between the EU and the UK. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

I follow you Murph but as I mention, it is not reflective of a democracy to shut down dissent and criticism by politicians of opposing parties. I recognize that this is the structure of the political system in the UK but it is not how democracy works or flourishes, even if it was instituted with the best of intentions. And in this case, it is being perverted, to let the clock run out on a hard Brexit whch is never how it has been used in the past. AdLib 2 hours ago

The PM and the cabinet is chosen by those who formed the government (normally a coaliton of parties) who sit in Parliament from among their own members. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

PPO–I agree with your assessment of what Putin wants. Given the state of international diplomacy these days, he will probably get his way. For sure, the US is not going to stop him as long as the TLB is in charge. glenn 2 hours ago

My guess is that if Boris forces a hard Brexit, that will launch a global recession. And the UK will be in such turmoil, it’s unimagineable right now. AdLib 2 hours ago

Oh, BTW, any US people planning to travel on a European Tour, better check about separate visas and passport requirements if you’re going via London. pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Murph–so that those with the largest populations would be able to force their choice upon those with smaller populations”. Shouldn’t it be would NOT be able to force their choice….? glenn 2 hours ago

Ad…..oddly the system has actually promoted a far more studied and integrated response because a “platform” could be presented as “whole cloth” to the body that will begin a study through its commissions and then in debate in the full Parliament….but in this case it seems to be suppressing the opposition in a way that was never predicted. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph – I get it but imagine if in the US, our president was chosen by the Repubs in The House when they win an election. And that president then shut down Congress to force them out of session so he could prepare all of the insane Trump policies. How would we feel about our government? Would we see it as a genuine democracy where the people’s voices matter and are heard? A majority in the UK do not want a hard Brexit and with this proroguing, they have no represenation in government to step in to stop it until it may be too late. AdLib 2 hours ago

Glenn…remember that the federal system was structure to give representative voice to both “the states” as entities and “the populations” as entities. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

PPO–Good advice. Also, we all need to check our drivers’ licenses to make sure they have a “Real ID compliant” seal, even to travel domestically. glenn 2 hours ago

Glenn….A state’s number of electors equals the number of representatives plus two electors for both senators the state has in the United States Congress. The number of representatives is based on the respective populations, determined every 10 years by the United States Census. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph – Many in the UK would argue that their political system has led to pushing the country to the edge of a cliff none of them want to be pushed over. The NHS and many other programs have been greatly damaged and there is a deterioration in faith in their government because of such anti-democratic aspects of their government. I can tell you that there are many in the UK who feel their system is more screwed up and anti-democratic than ours. AdLib 2 hours ago

Murph–Thanks for the clarification. Do you think we should abolish the Electoral College? Does it serve a purpose nowadays? glenn 2 hours ago

Ad…..the system, a map of custom and precedent, has long been endorsed as providing a significant period of time for a new government to create an organic and integrated document which would then be subject to study and amendment or rejection by the Commissions and Members…… MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad…I have very close ties to friends in the UK and what you say is certainly true. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Well, folks, lovely chatting, but we must let Murph go bye-byes! See you all next week pinkpantheroz 2 hours ago

Murph – The Senate structure were concessions to the slave states. They were a compromise to get the Constitution passed, slave states were worried that without “states rights” being enshrined in the Constitution, their power could be diminished. It is a remnant of slavery. AdLib 2 hours ago

Seeya PPO! AdLib 2 hours ago

Glenn…..I am of mixed mind re the electoral college because it does provide a necessary counterbalance to power of major cities, for example, to simply hold the federal goverment forever. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Ad…you slave state point is a good one and on point…but states like Rhode Island and Vermont were significant players in this as well. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

Murph–Then, if the number of electors is determined by congressional representatives and senators, whereby the larger states have more representatives, how does it help the states with fewer representatives? glenn 2 hours ago

Time to roll up the carpet friends. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

‘nite, PPO. glenn 2 hours ago

‘NIte, Murph. Always great chatting with you. Take care. glenn 2 hours ago

But Murph, in reality, how is the same Tory party just being led by another Tory, a new government? Has Tory representation in the HoC changed much? Didn’t they choose Boris to represent the same party and members of the HoC? AdLib 2 hours ago

Glenn….that balance is getting harder and harder to maintain for the reasons you pont out. MurphTheSurf3 2 hours ago

The EC ultimately is not an equalizer for rural areas, it is instead, in today’s reality, a weapon for a minority to have power over a majority. And big states like CA also have rural areas. They are all across the US. So it isn’t picking on rural communities to say that the person who wins the most votes should be the winner. AdLib an hour ago

Well, Ad, and whoever is left….time for me to call it a night. I need to process all this new information from tonight. Have a safe and happy Labor Day, y’all! glenn an hour ago

When the PM resigns….his or government does the same….the Monarch asks the Parliament to form a new government. It is not that rare for the phenomenon you outline to occur. Parties in the UK are much more diverse that those in the U.S. Johnson is on the far right of the Tory Party. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago

Night glenn! Thanks, hope you have a great holiday weekend too! AdLib an hour ago

But in actuality, has the government really changed aside from Boris being the PM? AdLib an hour ago

Just you and me Ad…..time to close down…let’s see if my selection gets me the notifications and let us continue to tweak the Planet’s architecture. MurphTheSurf3 an hour ago
