Vox Populi, our live weekly chat about the week’s events begins tonight at 7:00pm PST. Hope to see you then!
AdLib a day ago
Hey PPO!
AdLib a day ago
Hi, Ad. Firstly, an apology that I have to go and vote today in our State Elections, so can’t make Vox. Secondly, I can’t find the spot to donate. Help!

Hi, Jenuwin!

AdLib a day ago
Sneaky of those Aussies to schedule election day on Black Friday. Do you get 2 votes for the price of 1?
AdLib a day ago
Thanks for that, Ad. It’s Sat here. and we love the USA, except for when our lot try to duplicate Black Friday here. We don’t have Thanksgiving, they forget!!
pinkpantheroz

I know, just joking. Though the deals are serious business!
AdLib a day ago
For sure, Ad, except they don’t duplicate that here. Much smaller discounts
pinkpantheroz

So sorry, got to head out. Have a great Vox and hope everyone had a great TG.
pinkpantheroz

Thanks PPO!
AdLib a day ago
Hey Harleigh! Happy Black Friday…I suppose.
AdLib a day ago
Did you have a nice Thanksgiving?
AdLib a day ago
LOL I worked 11:30 to 8:00 so no shopping. Besides my neighborhood Sears closed. those bastards!
Harleigh

Damn!
AdLib a day ago
So this was truly a black Friday.
AdLib a day ago
Did you work yesterday?
AdLib a day ago
nope. but since we didnt get paid for it that sucks. lol
Harleigh

Maybe Spanky will give me some of that indian land he’s gonna steal.
Harleigh

That would be a nice Thanksgiving!
AdLib a day ago
I cant believe anybody is going along with it.
Harleigh

With what? The only ones who can stop him are Congress and courts.
AdLib a day ago
well I’m falling asleep. Have a great weekend!
Harleigh

And Repubs in Congress would just assume to let the country be torn to the ground than stand against Trump.
AdLib a day ago
Okay, sleep well, thanks for stopping by!
AdLib a day ago
Hey Murph!
AdLib a day ago
Hello there Ad.
MurphTheSurf3

Folks have been coming one at a time tonight.
AdLib a day ago
We two, we happy two?
MurphTheSurf3

Hard to get around after eating all that stuffing I guess.
AdLib a day ago
Did you have a nice Thanksgiving?
AdLib a day ago
I thought I would see who else might be on the Planet this evening.
MurphTheSurf3

If we were having a Black Friday sale on posts, it would be hopping.
AdLib a day ago
I did. I had my usual big gathering- mostly people from the co-op…even though I am no longer a member…apparently it is falling apart.
MurphTheSurf3

Things are strange around here now…..the bar I frequent is way down in business.
MurphTheSurf3

I’ve heard many are plowing under or letting crops die. And that Trump bribery money is being held up.
AdLib a day ago
There are lots of people hoping to sell crops for pennies on the dollar.
MurphTheSurf3

Just being routed to the bigger corparate farms
AdLib a day ago
I though farmers live on a financial edge, how can they get past this season?
AdLib a day ago
The thing here is that there are few corporate farms in the area.
MurphTheSurf3

That’s what I figured, since you have a co-op there. But those Trump billions aren’t available until after crops have been harvested and even then, they’re stingy about paying out. The most anyone could get is 50% of the crop value I think.
AdLib a day ago
Yes, living season to season….I am not sure……as I said the co-op has fallen apart so my info sources have dried up. My business will not be hurt…as long as there is no recession restaurants will still be looking to buy fresh from the garden veggies.
MurphTheSurf3

That’s good to hear, you grow primarily veggies? No soybeans?
AdLib a day ago
Since I am not in the line for those handouts I know too little to be informed.
MurphTheSurf3

Yes…..I have truck gardens….a series of midsize gardens specializing in organic salad, and cooking veggies.
MurphTheSurf3

We had about 40 people here and there was nary a political word but it was tense nevertheless.
MurphTheSurf3

You’re a sart man, you don’t depend on international trade like many in your co-op. And they still praise Trump?
AdLib a day ago
I am certain that nary a one thought of himself/herself as part of a global market since they sold to middle men who sold to China. Yes, praise of Trump continues but muted.
MurphTheSurf3

The difference between Trump voters and Dems is that we feel uneasy when anyone suffers. Much as we’ve discussed that Trump supporters will have to suffer badly before they back away from him.
AdLib a day ago
I’m still not pleased to hear how worried and in trouble many pwople are.
AdLib a day ago
Who voted for this to happen to them.
AdLib a day ago
That is certainly true of many Dems and for the GOP callousness has become virtue.
MurphTheSurf3

And kept supporting the man who is crushing them.
AdLib a day ago
My neighbors were part of the wave that vote out Claire and they will regret it. I still had a sign in my office window. One neighbor said to me “I bet you regret THAT now?” I said: “Of course not, but you will regret not voting for her. Mark my words.” He left early. Good riddance.
MurphTheSurf3

Yes, they have become mirrors of Trump as a bully. To want to hurt peope and be unmoved by their hurting is “brave” to such cowards. Now when it is happening to them, I’m sure they expect everyone to sympathize and want to help them…and will be very upset when they are ignored…because Trump can’t let people see that truth.
AdLib a day ago
Not surprising, a number of those being hurt….are finding ways to shift the blame to the Democrats, to Clinton, to Obama, to the deep state….a Trump state of mind.
MurphTheSurf3

That kneejerkdom, just following who everyone else is and hating who everyone else does is ignorant and self-destructive. They’re just disposible tools of the wealthy and powerful and too much in denial to listen to that truth and accept it.
AdLib a day ago
It’s like trying to change the minds of cult members. They don’t reason, they will twist everything into validating their beliefs because to accept that they have been fools all along is not preferable.
AdLib a day ago
The very definition of “dupes”.

MurphTheSurf3

The perfect rubes to be conned by someone like Trump. If they looked at his history of being opposed to nearly everything he supposedly supports now, that “city slicker”, that “elitist”, that “NY Snob”, their common sense might kick in. Instead, they are following a con man like lemmings and nothing can convince them against walking off the cliff…which is happening right now.
AdLib a day ago
Yep.
AdLib a day ago
He continues to speak as they wish they could about what they hate and want to be changed. They look no further than the bluster and bombast.
MurphTheSurf3

I go back and forth, it’s upsetting to hear about the tension in the folks you know there yet I get a little angry at people who continue harming themselves and the rest of the country out of petty fears and hatreds.
AdLib a day ago
In some ways Trump is an “idiot savant” in the matter of finding ways to appeal to and work crowds of the angry and fearful…..
MurphTheSurf3

It’s a vicious circle, the more they empower him, the more he damages their lives, which makes them angrier and even more supportive of the con man representing their anger.
AdLib a day ago
True….zero sum gains but they think that he is filling their lives with MAGA gold.
MurphTheSurf3

I’m still trying to figure out if Trump is even smart enough to be an idiot savante. He may simply be the perfect representation of immature, insecure white men and that alone may be his secret of success.
AdLib a day ago
And if you asked them to explain to you how their lives are better than they were 2 years ago?
AdLib a day ago
“Are you better off than you were 2 years ago?” “No but the people we hate aren’t and that’s good enough for us!”
AdLib a day ago
I think that you describe his core but he has an innate sense of how to manipulate crowds, reporters, allies, and opponents. It is a skill but not one he has picked up but rather something wire into his psyche. He has been doing this for most of his life.
MurphTheSurf3

Yes, that’s a good point. I think he is just a desperately insecure man who tries to whip up adoration and passion by pandering to what he thinks his base will be whipped up by.
AdLib a day ago
They cite “the economy,” “defense,” “national security,” and other bland generalities. They refuse to be nailed down….calling efforts to get them get particular “liberal tricks.”
MurphTheSurf3

It’s the basoc con man game of saying and doing exactly what the suckers want to hear and see. It’s not much more complex than that. He knows now that being obnoxious and insulting rallies love for him with the creatures who support him so he keeps pulling that lever harder and harder.
AdLib a day ago
I believe that the person Trump fools the most is himself. He is delusional. His conversation with reps of the armed forces on Thanksgiving Day provide example after example. He was speaking on one level and those who tried to respond were on another, generally one rooted in reality.
MurphTheSurf3

As anyone who knows they’re avoiding the truth would do. Of course they can’t give you one example of how their personal lives have improved under Trump, they know they haven’t. But gratification from watching those they hate be attaced is enough for them.
AdLib a day ago
Trump knows he’s a fraud. That’s why he fights against that appearance so hard. And what 2018 elections proved to him is that his shtick doesn’t work well enough anymore to win elections. He only knows one trick, it worked in 2016 to a degree (many other reasons he’s in the WH like Russia and Comey).
AdLib a day ago
Look at what the GOP in the House are doing with their last days in control…..trying to erect a set of Pinata’s that their base can whack at gleefully……hoping that the experience will be so fulfilling that what happens in January will fail to grab their attention. Delusional.
MurphTheSurf3

Your description of what Trump knows requires a level of self examination that I believe he is incapable of……a sociopathic norm.
MurphTheSurf3

But it doesn’t work well enough anymore. That’s all he’s got. No one but his cult members bought into his BS fear mongering about the invading hordes. Most Americans don’t believe him anymore, he is the fraud who cried wolf and since his border fraud, even more so now. And after Mueller drops the hammer on him, maybe even this upcoming week, the GOP roaches in Congress will scatter.
AdLib a day ago
Well….all of that could well be….but I do not see it as a reality check for him…..it is the way he is wired.
MurphTheSurf3

I think what the Repubs in The House are doing is just about spite. They want to go out having flipped the bird at the Dems before they take over and prove how much Repubs betrayed their oaths of office.
AdLib a day ago
They are pissed off, they are losing all their power and they know that the Dems will hold legit investigations of real outrageous and criminal behavior and it’s eating them up.
AdLib a day ago
Spite, yes. Makes sense as well.
MurphTheSurf3

Remember all the bogus “investigations” and hearings in The House that Repubs held? Refusing to challenge or subpoena Trumpers who refused to answer or even appear? And Nunes’ phony “investigations”? I think they should hold hearings on Nunes and throw his ass out of The House.
AdLib a day ago
Let’s remember they control the Senate, the WH, and are making huge inroads into the judiciary….the deck is still stacked against the Dems….now add in the state governments which remain, by and large, in GOP hands.
MurphTheSurf3

Ad,,,,you are well informed and thoughtful…..and hardly anyone else is. You remember. 99 percent do not.
MurphTheSurf3

No question that they are poisoning the courts with their unqualified and unfit picks. That will take a while to balance out but it isn’t permanent. As for state houses, Dems won back a lot of power in states, both Gov seats, legislatures and simply killing supermajorities. And when the new census takes place in 2021, under a Dem President, the tables may be turned for the last time.
AdLib a day ago
Just as I experienced so often in 2008…..10 years ago……so few who are “for” someone or something, and/or “against” someone or something can argue their position. It is nearly all in the gut which makes for poor decision making AND is easily upended. An informed electorate is a precondition for a healthy representative government.
MurphTheSurf3

Very kind of you to say but you are too. And I think many of those Dems who came out this year and ran for office, remember the bad times under Repub control too. So way more than 1% I think.
AdLib a day ago
Yes there was movement….was it dramatic? No much. It will take several such elections to really change the momentum.
MurphTheSurf3

I do think that knowing the truth has become more important to many in the era of the lying Trump. Things are different, the turnout was remarkable, people know they have to pay attention. To Climate Change, gun control, women’s rights, racial justice, we need to remember that this wasn’t an activist nation before Trump and now it is.
AdLib a day ago
Dems who ran for office…by and large, part of the one percent…those who supported them, by and large, as I describe the masses.
MurphTheSurf3

Yes it was dramatic. More people voted Dem this year than voted for Trump in 2016.
AdLib a day ago
That’s unheard of. But because of gerrymandering, Dems only won a fraction of the seats they should have in the House.
AdLib a day ago
I know….but thanks to structural traps many of those votes had much less impact than they should have.
MurphTheSurf3

Ah….you just said that.
MurphTheSurf3

Dems won the popular vote by 8%. That’s huge, not 1%.
AdLib a day ago
I just don’t see that number as an indicator of a newly informed and politically energized body of resistance…..gut reactions….will they endure? Recall Obama’s 2008 win and his 2010 drubbing.
MurphTheSurf3

Here’s how I’m looking at the scheme of things. In 2020, Dems win big in the popular vote, barely win back The Senate, keep The House and win the WH. In 2020, the census takes place, in 2021, under a Dem government, redistricting takes place, voter rights are enhanced, a Dem AG goes after states that are suppressing voting and the redistricting gives Dems more local and national power that Repubs can’t continue cheating against with a few exceptions.
AdLib a day ago
Who does the redistricting……?
MurphTheSurf3

Well…you also doubted that Dems would win back The House. I understand your hesitation, especially after Trump won, many retain strong doubts about things but I’m results driven. Trump has never gotten over 50% and the stats are that those in the WH only have worse numbers as the years go on. And The Resistence is real and energized by winning.
AdLib a day ago
There is a good shot at the Senate. Keeping the House …. hopefully. The WH? One would hope but there are so many variables at work in this and big, unprincipled money is still likely to support T unless the economy has really, really soured.
MurphTheSurf3

In most of the swing states, Dems will either have the final say by being in the Gov mansion, having legislative control, or controlling the SOS office.
AdLib a day ago
I had doubts about the House based on the record of turnout in key voting blocs. Here is Mo. my worries were well placed. Elsewhere…..not so. As to the 50 percent……it is all comparative. Who is his opponent? IN 2008 the thinking of my of my peers in the Obama campaign was based on the wave continuing…..it did not.
MurphTheSurf3

Wisconsin, PA, MI, NV, AZ all have Dems as Gov who will veto any Repub skewed districts. That’s a big deal. And CA wil add seats as will other Dem or purple states.
AdLib a day ago
Ad. I need to look at a state by state breakdown in re. to the gerrymandering.
MurphTheSurf3

The main thing to me is that Dems can get a leg up on gerrymandering and once they do, it’s all downhill for Repubs. Once all the states I mentioned above have fair elections, Repubs will be at a big disadvantage in einning the House back for a generation…at least until they rid themselves of the racist Trump mob.
AdLib a day ago
Well…this is all intriguing….and as always, thought provoking. I enjoyed it. For now, I need to toddle off to bed…..I am behind on many of the day to day details of life. I do hope that your forecast is pinpoint.
MurphTheSurf3

Trump won by running against a Dem who had record high disapprovals. I can’t think of one Dem who might run who could have the negatives Hillary had?
AdLib a day ago
And Russia can’t pull the same tricks they did in 2016 and Comey can’t upend the election with FBIinvestigations at the last minute. We need to see things as they were, Trump had The Perfect Storm in 2016 and that simply can’t be the same in 2020.
AdLib a day ago
Thanks pall, have a great holiday weekend! See you next week!
AdLib a day ago
pal, that is!
AdLib a day ago
Again…here is hoping that your crystal ball is crystal clear….Bye, friend.
MurphTheSurf3

See you next Friday.
