Hey Murph! Never know on the day after Thanksgiving, many may still be under the influencce of tryptophan.
AdLib7 days ago
It is true…Been checking in on the Co. Shooting (yep another one)…several dead, many injured.
MurphTheSurf3
Not a lot of details yet, I’m afraid that it’s probably just what PP and many of us have been saying, that the demonizing of them will set off the mentally unstable on the far right.
AdLib7 days ago
And consider that if the killer was Muslim, this would be called an act of terrorism but since he was white and probably Christian, it won’t be.
AdLib7 days ago
CNN invited Rep. Adam Kizinger (R.-Ill.) – PP hater and proponent of “the videos” to comment in a segment this afternoon….he basically said that PP conduct revealed by the videos may have triggered someone who was mentall unstable.
MurphTheSurf3
What human garbage. Their RW machine put out that propaganda, the Repub politicians pumped it out day in and day out then of course, they blame the victim of their hate speech.
AdLib7 days ago
That is them alright…..
MurphTheSurf3
The hypocrisy of the GOP has become very tiring. They’re supposedly the party of patriotism but they do all they can to undermine America’s President and care for our military. They call themselves pro-life but they happily whip up hatred towards their “enemies” that inspires their followers to kill.
AdLib7 days ago
And Trump, despite the widespread dismay in GOP circles about his success, is the perfect mascot for them.
MurphTheSurf3
Apparently, being “pro-life” in the GOP doesn’t extend to the majority of pro-choice Americans themselves.
AdLib7 days ago
No- they are underserving.
MurphTheSurf3
I think Trump’s success and hopefully, his nomination for the GOP, is a needed step for the GOP to be severely damaged until they overcome the extremists.
AdLib7 days ago
Undeserving…I am realizing that I am really tuckered out. My usual dinner for 40 plus, church services, family baskets for the needy….
MurphTheSurf3
Wow, sounds like you had quite an evening! But that brought a lot of Thanksgiving to so many!
AdLib7 days ago
Trump will be stopped – and I do not see his popularity growing, just holding….even as Carson fades…but Cruz is rising now…..
MurphTheSurf3
Cruz is hardly much better than Trump. He’s disliked by a majority of the GOP Establishment, Indies and of course Dems. He has no better chance in a GE.
AdLib7 days ago
Rubio came out to say he opposes Roe v. Wade and wants it overturned, he’s not going to attract much of the indie vote. The GOP is SOL.
AdLib7 days ago
I suspect you are correct……well friend….I am falling asleep here so I am going to call it a night. …I am glad that Vox continues to flow most weeksand that you continue to make it a quality experience for our crew. WIshing you and yours the best.

AdLib7 days ago
Hey Ad–had a little trouble getting on the site tonight. What’s up with that?
glenn
glenn – Don’t know, what was happening when you tried to get to the site? Was it just not coming up?
AdLib7 days ago
Ad….and Glenn…it took me three tries to get on.
MurphTheSurf3
Murph – What happened when you tried to get on?
AdLib7 days ago

Hmm…I will look into that, sorry all!
AdLib7 days ago
Did everyone have a nice Thanksgiving?
AdLib7 days ago
Well – we’re here. That’s good.
choicelady
Ad–took a while to come up; then when it did come up, it said it wasn’t “live” (Vox wasn’t showing up) so I had to click to get it off the cloud or something.
glenn
CL – Absolutely!
AdLib7 days ago
Hey CL! Hey Murph, glad you came back
glenn
glenn – Thanks, that’s helpful! Gives me an idea on where to start looking to resolve that.
AdLib7 days ago
AdLib – yes – very nice. Had 8 homeless neighbors in. They cooked the turkey on a gas grill one found in a rich area and wheeled back here. The owner was upgrading and let him take it. GREAT turkey roast!
choicelady
AdLib – how was your T’giving?
choicelady
CL – Cool! That sounds like the real spirit of Thanksgiving all the way around!
AdLib7 days ago
We had a pretty diverse group although only one partly First Nations person, but it was fun.
choicelady
CL–good on ya!
glenn
glenn – hope you had a good Thanksgiving?
choicelady
CL – Thanks for asking! Very enjoyable, had a very nice dinner with the family AND my mother’s new boyfriend (manfriend? Using “boy” on someone of a certain age is kind of silly).
AdLib7 days ago
Ad–my niece lives in CA, and she posted a facebook picture of a rainbow after rain. Are you all finally getting some rain?
glenn
AdLib – sounds wonderful, and yes, what DO we call ‘significant others’ at your mother’s age?
choicelady
glenn – The rain bypassed where we are in LA but we drove through a bit of it on the way home from T-Day dinne.
AdLib7 days ago
dinner
AdLib7 days ago
CL – Good question! “Senior Friends”? Though that sounds close to “Superfriends”.
AdLib7 days ago
glenn – northern CA got a lot though not right here in Sacramento. Lots where it counts, though – around the reservoirs. That all helps. It’s going to be below freezing – mid 20s – next three nights which was NOT predicted. More rain next week.
choicelady

CL–My t’giving was good. The previous day wasn’t so good. My mother passed away on Wed., which was also the day of what would have been my 49th wedding anniversary. Although my mother’s passing was “expected”, it was still sad and made me miss my husband more than usual. Spent most of that day crying, but got most of it out, and had a very nice t’giving with my daughter, her friends, and six kids! Being around kids always cheers me up!
glenn
CL – In her 80’s.
AdLib7 days ago
Oh glenn – I am SO sorry on all counts. That’s so NOT fair and incredibly hard. I cannot imagine all the emotions you’ve been experiencing. I’m sorry that happened to you.
choicelady
Very sorry to hear that glenn.
AdLib7 days ago
AdLib – your mother is still YOUNG by today’s ideals. Good for her for keeping up a lively social life!
choicelady
Losing someone around the holidays is very difficult. Hope you’re holding up alright, glenn.
AdLib7 days ago
He Murph – you there? I hope you had a good Thanksgiving?
choicelady
Ad–your mom sounds a lot like mine–in her younger days, at least. She had six husbands, and even had a “boyfriend” when she first went into her nursing home. More power to those old broads!
glenn
OBP – Old Broad Power!!!
choicelady
Anyone following Colorado Springs? I am blasted by this horror.
choicelady
CL – Yes, she is very young for her age. She has some issues but is doing pretty well considering. Just happy she found a companion, she’s been without a man in her life for decades.
AdLib7 days ago
AdLib – then she is well and truly ready for good companionship. She’s earned it!
choicelady
Thank you CL and Ad. She was 89 years old and had lived a full life, but it’s still hard to take. Not trying to put a damper on anyone’s day, but next I have to get through Christmas, because my husband passed away on Dec. 27th. Once again, I’m so thankful for my daughter, granddaughter, and my wonderful son-in-law. They always get me through these dark days.
glenn
glenn – How cool! I think our moms do have a lot in common, she only had two hubbies but had a number of boyfriends afterwards. Definitely very cool! So hard for women as they get older to meet men because the “good” ones their age usually want younger women.
AdLib7 days ago
glenn – I remember your saying your husband had died near Christmas. That does make it extra hard. I am glad you have such a good family! Our thoughts are with you.
choicelady
AdLib – I’m happy for your Mom!
choicelady
Ad–also, as women get older, there are not many “good” men left.
glenn
glenn – that’s the truth! But many men like the companionship of their peers, so it’s worth waiting for that.
choicelady
CL–thanks for your thoughts. I’ll stop with my tale of woe now.
glenn
glenn – if you can’t talk about your feelings here, then where CAN you? We care a lot about you!
choicelady
glenn – I had a grandparent pass away on Christmas Day, my mother’s father. Christmas was hard for her for many years. It never goes away completely but it does get better with time.
AdLib7 days ago
Ooops – I think we lost glenn. Is the system eating us alive?
choicelady
I hope not! Ah, glenn’s back!
AdLib7 days ago
glenn’s back!
choicelady
Well I cannot stay long – the homeless folks socialize in the back since they get arrested if they sit in the park, but I’m hearing evidence of too MUCH good cheer out there. Not everyone handles the libations well.
choicelady
CL – Yes, Murph and I were discussing the attack on Planned Parenthood earlier. Just awful and instead of the Repubs taking responsible for the deaths their hate mongering has whipped up, one Repub Rep blamed PP for having been exposed by the bogus videos for doing horrible things.
AdLib7 days ago
I’m back! Ad, you’re right; it does get better with time. As my granddaughter gets older, though, and is turning into such a beautiful person inside and out, it makes me so sad that he will never get to watch her grow up. He was so crazy about her and my daughter, too.
glenn
CL – Yipe! Time to pass around the coffee?
AdLib7 days ago
Typical GOP. Make up a lie then use it to justify murder. Three dead today – one officer, two civilians. Apparently the clinic has a ‘safe room’ for just these types of events. How dreadful. I am blasted by this.
choicelady
CL–oops–as Ad says, better get out the coffee!
glenn
They have a coffee pot out there – we have a mini kitchen set up – but it’s not sometimes enough. They promise not to drink, but…
choicelady
They are all smart and talented people from landscapers to poets, but the Demon Rum remains a factor now and then.
choicelady
glenn – That is sad, when you love a child or grandchild and they’re growing up, going through new things and maturing, you do really want to share that.
AdLib7 days ago
CL–besides the fact that this terrorist killed and wounded so many people, I am ticked off by the headlines that came up on my news feed: “Gunman at abortion clinic”. Planned Parenthood is not an abortion clinic; it’s a woman’s health center! And these dumb-ass repubs who continue to push lies just push me over the edge. Too much death!
glenn
glenn – as one who has known three people hurt or killed at clinics, I am right there with you.
choicelady
CL – That’s very interesting, didn’t assume that but of course, homelessness can hit many, especially those addicted to alcohol or drugs.
AdLib7 days ago
CL–as many commenters have posted, how can you callyourself “pro-life” if you want to kill people who don’t agree with you?
glenn
AdLib – most of the 8 neither drink nor do drugs, but two who do can be a handful.
choicelady
glenn – And also, they refer to him as a gunman but as I mentioned earlier, had a Muslim man done this at a different place in the name of ISIS, it would be called terrorism.
AdLib7 days ago
CL–Forgive me for not remembering, but are you alone, or do you have help with your guests?
glenn
glenn – it’s in the DNA of religious fundamentalists to separate the ‘innocent’ from the ‘sinful’. What is new is the relatively recent determination that these fanatics have the RIGHT to kill prochoice people. That’s mind boggling.
choicelady
Ad–he is a terrorist, aided and abetted by trump, the gop, and fox news!
glenn
glenn – well, I’m not alone, but help? Define that, LOL!!! My husband is pretty good with them, but he doesn’t interact as much as I do.
choicelady
CL–I get separating the innocent from the sinful; but doesn’t the bible say, “Vengence is mine, saith the lord?” Somehow I remember that bible verse from childhood.
glenn
CL – Good point, they are motivated more by their version of “innocent” than by being pro-life. After all, they want to emulate the vengeful God of the Old Testament, not the teachings of Jesus about love, peace and compassion.
AdLib7 days ago
glenn – I now understand that for the zealots, the Bible, like the Constitution, is “just a piece of paper”. They seriously think their judgment prevails, and they are anointed to be able to do anything they like.
choicelady
CL–okay, “help” is defined as being there for you, so that’s good. How’s that?
glenn
AdLib – for Christians (in name only) they sure love them their tribal rules and Old Testament smiting!
choicelady
glenn – If a Muslim cleric preached hate against Christians the way the Repubs do against PP, and one unhinged man acted out against Christians, he would not be called a gunman but a terrorist.
AdLib7 days ago
glenn – well, he participates and occasionally talks with them, but he mostly leaves cleaning up the occasional loud aftermath of holiday celebrating to me.
choicelady
AdLib – I will say the Twitter universe sees this guy as a TERRORIST. That’s a good step forward even if CNN cannot bring themselves to say it.
choicelady
CL–I don’t get that any more than you do. IOW, they’re putting themselves in god’s place, and isn’t that against what Jesus taught, too? I know, I know, we can’t apply logic or even the bible to fundies. They make up their own rules as they go along, or by whatever the voices in their head tell them. Not to mention what the hateful gop politicians we have nowadays.
glenn
…what the hateful gop politicians tell them.
glenn
glenn – they see themselves as ‘God’s little helpers’. It’s pernicious but they believe God wants them to kill the baddies.
choicelady
CL–much like “santa’s helpers” I guess. Sure wish they’d give presents instead of bullets, though.
glenn
CL – There should be a different term for the religion of those who primarily follow the God of Vengeance in the Old Testament instead of Jesus, maybe “Testamentarians”?
AdLib7 days ago
But not Christians!
AdLib7 days ago
glenn – that would require them to have hearts, wouldn’t it?
choicelady
Ad–maybe testamenterrorists?
glenn
CL – That’s good to hear that on Twitter their calling him a terrorist but I’ll guarantee you that term won’t ever come out of a Republican’s mouth.
AdLib7 days ago
AdLib – I call them that: Old Testamentarians. That’s to distinguish them from Jews who actually, you know, THINK about what it all means.
choicelady
CL–just goes to show how closely the brain and the heart are related. If you don’t have a brain, you don’t have a heart, and if you don’t have a heart, your brain is seriously lacking!
glenn
glenn – “Testaculls”?
AdLib7 days ago
AdLib – nope. No white faux Christian will ever be labeled that way. Only Tim McVeigh was, and you can find few GOP who will continue to call him that.
choicelady
Ad–tha’s a good one!
glenn
AdLib – too funny!
choicelady
CL – Very cool that you refer to them in that way. Their views have nothing much to do with the teachings of Jesus.
AdLib7 days ago
Or maybe an edit on that, “Testicultists”?
AdLib7 days ago
Jesus is just the ‘get out of free’ card they hope to play at death. If there is an ‘after’ I think they’re in for a big shock.
choicelady
CL–if there is an after, I hope they burn in it!
glenn
Folks – the noise level in the back requires attention. We don’t DARE let the neighbors get peeved and call the cops, so I need to go soothe the savage breasts among them. Glenn – I’m with you on the ‘after’ hot spot!!!
choicelady
CL – Which just continues to affirm my proposition that despite Repubs claiming to be the party of patriotism, pro-life and freedom, it’s all just Orwellian doublespeak.
AdLib7 days ago
Ad–great edit.

MurphTheSurf3
Murph – You can see above, we were continuing the discussion on the terrorist in CO.
AdLib7 days ago
Murph–well, I’m glad you came back. We were just talking about the terrorist attack on the PP in CO. Ad has come up with a label for them: testacultists! Very clever, our Ad!
glenn
Ad….did a quick look over….find myself agreeing with the tenor of the remarks.
MurphTheSurf3
Testacultists? Reference?
MurphTheSurf3
CL has had to deal with some of the potentially violent RWs who go mental against PP.
AdLib7 days ago
Murph – Old Testament extremists who ignore the teachings of Jesus and prefer the God of Vengeance mentality. Testacultists.
AdLib7 days ago
Ad and Murph–then we have the “responsible gun owner” in MS who shot a WaffleHouse waitress because she woldn’t let him smoke inside; and the sheriff right here in good old GA who put up a sign basically saying that anybody who doesn’t agree with him can get the hell out of his county!
glenn
Oh….OldTestaCultists….got it.
MurphTheSurf3
There is much madness afoot.
MurphTheSurf3
glenn – With the wealthy and special interests blocking Congress from following the desires of the people…and even common sense, it kind of feels like we are spectators to a kind of mass insanity perculating up from the RW across the country. And they are outgrowths of the hateful propaganda of the RW.
AdLib7 days ago
Murph – I started out calling them just “Testaculls”.
AdLib7 days ago
Ad–I know. I just don’t know where it will end. I did see that trump finally lost 15 points in the polls today. Maybe people are finally coming to their senses!
glenn
I had lunch last week with an old time GOP leader in my county who cannot stand the “new breed” in the GOP….a party built on anger, anxiety and fear that lashes out.
MurphTheSurf3
Glenn – what poll
MurphTheSurf3
OldTestaculls….I like
MurphTheSurf3
Murph–had to look it up–Quinnipiac.
glenn
glenn – Always remember, Trump’s and Carson’s poll numbers come solely from Repub extremists. The MSM glosses over that and makes claims like they’re appealing to many in America. That’s BS. About 50% of the GOP supports Trump and Carson but that’s only about 15% of the voting public so it’s really such a small percentage of voters.
AdLib7 days ago
Glenn…got a link…that would be fine.
MurphTheSurf3
Murph–i’s the old time gopers who are going to have to start speaking out forcefully against their hateful party members. Most of the time, the “faithful base” won’t believe a word libs say.
glenn
Ad….30 percent of the GOP votes in the primary; 30 percent of them have gone for Trump; the GOP are 30 percent of the electorate. So in a group of 100, Trump has 7 voters and Carson has 6.
MurphTheSurf3
The old timers don’t have the power.
MurphTheSurf3
Just checked RCP and Trump is maintaining his numbers in the mid 20’s in most polls. That’s a good thing, nothing would demolish the GOP more than having Trump as their nom. Even Repubs will vote for the Dem then.
AdLib7 days ago
Ad–I know. Of course, if we had a “liberal media”, they would be reporting that. It also gives the trump supporters the mistaken idea that they are the “majority”. Sad thing is, though, with so many states in repub control, they are majority of people who actually vote!
glenn
Murph – Right, just took 50% of 30% to get to 15% total of all American voters supporting Trump and Carson. Their support is so much more fractional in the big picture than any MSM outlet would let on because it’s bad for business.
AdLib7 days ago
Ad–not sure that repubs would vote for the dem nominee, but at least they would stay home and not vote. And, once again, if the Dems come out in large numbers like they did in ’08 and ’12, then we can defeat the extremists by yuuuuge margins!
glenn
This entire story is hot stuff for media looking to meet their bottom line requirements….to make money you have to have interest so you build it however you can
MurphTheSurf3
Murph–sigh–remember when news didn’t have to be “profitable”; it was just news?
glenn
glenn – Repubs do control a lot of state governments but first of all, the number of states is irrelevant, it’s how many electoral votes are probable Repub and Dem and Dems have a huge advantage, And some Repub states like FL, WI, MI and OH will probably go for the Dem despite Repubs holding the state governments. Gerrymandering helps them control states but that doesn’t affect national races.
AdLib7 days ago
Ad–I get it. I just want these damn fascists to be defeated bigtime!
glenn
My regular reminder……the presidential race is important but if we do not retake the Senate and cut into the House majority while launching effective assaults in the states….the WH is not enough
MurphTheSurf3
Murph–agreed.
glenn
glenn – Repubs voted for Bel Edwards, the Dem who ran in LA because Vitter was so disliked. That will happen if Trump is the Repub nom, when it comes to moderate Repubs. I do think that faced with a potential Repub President from the pack that’s running, Dems will be very motivated to vote in 2016.
AdLib7 days ago
Murph – Sad but true, the profit motive for corporately owned media outlets outweighs honest news reporting.
AdLib7 days ago
On that note, guys, I’m calling it a night. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for me the past few days, and I’m just worn out. Always great chatting with you two. You make sense of this senseless world. Thanks, and have a wonderful weekend.
glenn
Great flurry of discussion and now I really am heading to showers….best to you both…..
MurphTheSurf3
Murph – When it comes to the SCOTUS nominations, the WH is enough to change the nation’s course. But you are right, we need The Senate back to get those noms through and cutting the numbers of Repubs in the House is important too.
AdLib7 days ago
Ad–one more comment. Even if trump isn’t the repub nominee, I’m almost positive he’s going to run as an independent. He won’t give up the spotlight and attention easily. And if, as he says, the repubs don’t treat him “fairly” IOW give him the nomination, then he doesn’t have to “honor” the contract he signed.
glenn
G’night guys!
glenn
Nice chatting with you too, glenn. You’ve had to manage quite a bit but it sounds like you’ve stayed strong and gotten through it as best as anyone could. Sending you all the best!
AdLib7 days ago
Ad….without the Senate all the WH can do is nominate very mediocre, leaning right Justices.
MurphTheSurf3
Until next time…
MurphTheSurf3
Murph – Exactly, we need the Senate back and I think we will get it back. The tide against a Trump, Cruz or Rubio would be very strong and the disillousionment of the GOP will depress turnout.
As a great way to share this experience, PlanetPOV is hosting a live chat (live typed comments) tonight to discuss the night's results as they come in along with everything else this election will bring and what folks think it will mean for the future.
It is long past time to stop playing Trump’s game of racism, hate, misogyny, and abject greed. If Trump is elected, he will end democracy as we know it. Harris will preserve it and work to make it better and far more inclusive so we can have it, as Lincoln said, a more perfect union. It will only happen if you vote.
