Happy Friday! With Rand Paul announcing his Presidential run…then stumbling badly, Hillary announcing on Sunday and a white cop finally being arrested for shooting an unarmed black man, there’s a lot to talk about in our live chat tonight at 7:00pm…known of course around these parts of the internet as Vox Populi. Hope to see you then!
adlib 7 days ago
Don’t forget to say “Hi!” or “Rand Fall!” when you arrive!
adlib 7 days ago
An early howdy do!
murphthesurf3
And an early howdy do back to you!
adlib 7 days ago
How’s everything your way?
adlib 7 days ago
Ferguson was very interesting last week. Part of the GOTV effort…..
murphthesurf3
It went very well indeed!
adlib 7 days ago
Twice the turnout as in 2014 midterms but still just about 30 percent. Apathy abounds. Still they got half the council black.
murphthesurf3
Kind of inconvenient for the old school white ruling class to have an election come up so soon after the Brown killing.
adlib 7 days ago
I do think it’s best to look at the increase in relative terms, going up 30% is a real success.
adlib 7 days ago
The GOTV effort was thwarted at every turn mostly by black leaders who labeled it a useless game that played into the white agenda.
murphthesurf3
Right, but with the success of these candidates, that meme is trashed.
adlib 7 days ago
Oh I am not dissatisfied but I am also not pleased. They kept us at a distance until it became clear that we old guard activists were needed.
murphthesurf3
How is the drought in your piece of LA
murphthesurf3
It probably was a phase they had to go through, after so much disappointment and discouragement a too-cycnical mentality prevailed…but that’s blown up by the wins of the black candidates now.
adlib 7 days ago
I do hope you are correct…..the power of black opportunists to derail the good efforts of real leaders is very signficant. It does not serve their interests to have elections go well.
murphthesurf3
I’m just waiting to hear what the limitations are going to be. As it is, we’ve been limiting our watering. All that really needs to be done is slash a small portion of agricultural use, they use 80% of our state’s water, and the majority of residents and businesses will be fine.
adlib 7 days ago
Is the agri lobby the problem? What happens if there is a slash? Who gets hurt by it…..key crops, migrant workers?
murphthesurf3
Don’t you think though that after the success of this election, that those people will lose influence and elections will gain more legitimacy?
adlib 7 days ago
As it is, it’s lopsided. The small fraction of water use by citizens is going to be hammered hard while agriculture and corporate entities, like Nestle which is draining our public water to sell as bottled water, won’t have to cut back at all.
adlib 7 days ago
The opportunists tapped into a large number of people who will not register and therefore will not vote who regard elections as a game that they always lose. The new message from them is that the two new council members are plants because both are educated professionals.
murphthesurf3

What does your “reformer” mayor have to say about that? Or is he in on it?

Hey Ad, How have you been?
killgoretrout

I am ok Kilgore….I was sharing my Ferguson experience last week with Ad Lib….if you are interested take a gander further up stream.
murphthesurf3
Hi Glenn…..
murphthesurf3
I must confess, that I’ve reached a certain saturation point. I tend to think that not much has changed, in the long run. I know that’s a bit skeptical, but here I am.
killgoretrout
KT- I have the same feeling….in fact I have a sense that we are sliding backwards.
murphthesurf3
Hey glenn! I hope all is well in the land of the Pats.
killgoretrout
Hello PPO
murphthesurf3
Murph – I get it but I’d think that sect will shrink as the City Council takes on the character of its new makeup. There will always be self-serving cynics but I think the proof in the pudding will weaken them.
adlib 7 days ago
Hi, Murph, KT et al.
pinkpantheroz
Hey PPO!
adlib 7 days ago
Hiya ad.
pinkpantheroz
I was extremely saddened by the murder of yet another black man. I was, however, glad to see that his killer has been charged with murder. It was no doubt, murder.
killgoretrout
Hey PPO! Good to “see ya.”
killgoretrout
Ad…I do hope your positive thinking is prophetic…..two ministers there who I have gotten to know are very worried….one thinks the opportunists leaders are in the pay of realtors who want the whole area to flip.
murphthesurf3
Murph – Our Mayor can’t do much about it, this is a state thing and while we do need to conserve now, dumping it all on those who use less than 20% of the state’s water is messed up.
adlib 7 days ago
Murph, who would want to buy?
killgoretrout
Good evening, all. I was reading about Murph’s experiences in Ferguson re the elections. KT, “land of the pats”? How is everyone tonight?
glenn
KT….and late today another assault by a bunch of pissed off cops on a guy running from them caught by a helicopter followingthe chase.
murphthesurf3
Glenn, are you kidding? The national champions of American football! The Pats!
killgoretrout
Ad LIb….beyond your mayor, where does the governor stand on this.
murphthesurf3
Yes, KT, tragic. But perhaps the fact that cameras are now everywhere, may slow down the incidence oof ‘He went for my gun’ defences.
pinkpantheroz
KT…..first clear folks out and then make way for development….in this case an expanding university and an industrial park.
murphthesurf3
KT – Same here and I do have to agree with those who say it’s great the cop was arrested but it’s messed up that we celebrate something happening that should have happened in a just society anyway…but rarely does.
adlib 7 days ago
KT–but I live in GA, land of the Falcons.
glenn
You poor thing, glenn!
pinkpantheroz
Murph–but why can’t you have an expanding university and an industrial park now?
glenn
This turd was actually caught on camera taking the taser that was dropped initially and dropping it off at the body, some 30 feet away. He was trying to “plant,” evidence and got caught on camera. Thank goodness for personal cameras, owned by the general public.
killgoretrout
PPO–I know, “sigh”. I also have to live in a state with republicans controlling everything!

KT Landlocked by Housing, particularly subsidized housing.
murphthesurf3
Murph, much like “subsidized prisons.”
killgoretrout
KT–no problem. I get confused often, too.
glenn
Murph – I do think that community leaders and the community itself needs to push back against these opportunists but I also think the reverberations of the election will be a gradual antidote against them. In the next election, they just need to invoke this election to make the case for GOTV.
adlib 7 days ago

hey folks
Harleigh
Kt, what gets me is that the ‘escapee’ was no Usain Bolt and could have been caught at a gentle trot. but no, he had to empty his magazine.
pinkpantheroz
KT–but despite the turd’s trying to plant evidence, geraldo rivera says that the cop’s videotape will exonerate the cop.
glenn
KT…the subsidized housing is affordable housing for the poor.
murphthesurf3

Hey Harleigh–I was in FL last week visiting relatives. Sure did love the weather! Although it’s finally getting warm here.
glenn
Hey glenn!
adlib 7 days ago
Wussup Harleigh?
adlib 7 days ago

adlib 7 days ago

ad – no challenger. nobody there.
Harleigh
Ad–Will Hillary (is it one “l” or two) have any serious challengers? What do you think?
glenn
Ad, I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that Hillary will get the nom, but it is very likely. Who would be a serious challenge?
killgoretrout

Hey B! What’s up?
killgoretrout

killgoretrout
Hey Beatlex!
adlib 7 days ago
They are “biblically restrained.”
killgoretrout
KT….it did….they worked for Obama because they were sick of anti-women GOP BS here.
murphthesurf3
Harleigh – I think Biden may run and could compete.
adlib 7 days ago
That’s great, that sentiment should spread.
killgoretrout
Evening everyone! Hope you’re all OK and doing well!
choicelady

Hey CL! How’s the good fight going?
killgoretrout

Harleigh

Ad–seriously? Biden will run? Read somewhere today that he took a baby’s pacifier. I think he’s getting just a little bizarre, lately.
glenn
Ad Lib The Leader of the Lysistrata Ladies had lunch with me earlier this week and she is going to support Hillary. In fact she is organizing for her. She did a great job convincing me I should do the same.

glenn

Hi glenn – lovely to see you. How are you there in GA?
choicelady

murphthesurf3
Hi Harleigh! Great to see you!
choicelady
KT guano! LOL
Harleigh
glenn – We’ve seen again and again that the assumed annointed nom can be seriously challenged by someone not even anticipated as a real challenge in the early days of a campaign. I’d say, stay tuned.
adlib 7 days ago
Hey CL!!!
adlib 7 days ago
Murph–I remember a few weeks back when you were unsure about campaigning so early for Hillary. So, have you made up your mind?
glenn
There are definitely more progressive people than Hillary in the democratic party. But do they have the same amount of political clout? Clout is everything in American politics.
killgoretrout
CL–doing well; weather is warming up, so I’m a happy camper.
glenn
Hey AdLib – how are you? STILL have not heard from our mutual friend. Very annoyed I must say.
choicelady
Hi PPO – how’s life ‘down under’?
choicelady
KT–clout and money. And Hillary will be able to raise gobs of money from all I have read.
glenn
Harleigh, that would explain the batshit crazy!
killgoretrout
KT – that’s observably accurate. Glenn – yup. Clout and money. I keep hearing HRC has allied with Schumer on Iran, then I hear she hasn’t. Anyone know?
choicelady
Nice to hear about the Lysistrata Ladies! I think the Repub Primary will push many women to support Hillary.
adlib 7 days ago
Glenn….I still have many Hillary doubts….but people i trust like you and Choice and Ad Lib are on board….and when a lifetime GOP woman here in my state walked me through why she and her friends believe it is time for a woman president and that Hillary is the person to do that….well…I put it all together….SO I am Ready for Hillary.
murphthesurf3
Anyone have an opinion on Lincoln Chaffee? I slightly knew his father who was a very good guy, but I understand Lincoln is a lightweight though he’s opposing HRC on her Iraq war vote and her ties to Wall Street.
choicelady
hillary and Bill already have gobs of money, but they will easily get more in contributions. One good thing about Citizens United is that both parties can gain from it. It still sucks though because it eliminates to average people.
killgoretrout
Murph–good on ya! As we have all stated before, Hillary has her problems, but she is still head and shoulders above anyone the repubs have out there.
glenn
Ad Lib and Choice…..Glenn….I still have many Hillary doubts….but people i trust like you and Glenn are on board….and when a lifetime GOP woman here in my state walked me through why she and her friends believe it is time for a woman president and that Hillary is the person to do that….well…I put it all together….SO I am Ready for Hillary.
murphthesurf3
Murph – I’m NOT on board with Hillary. Yet. If she is the nom, then sure.
choicelady
Choice….so why was my news Great?
murphthesurf3
CL – That is a bit insulting, that she still hasn’t gotten back to you. What is wrong with people?
adlib 7 days ago
Murph – I see your point – if she can win over GOP women, that’s HUGE. Murph – it was the Lysistrata Ladies coming into the tent. HUGE!
choicelady
KT I honestly can’t fathom the batshit crazies starting with Palin and Bachmann back in 2007. It is beyond embarrassing. 8 years later and these really off the wall whackdoodles are whackin off BS everywhere.
Harleigh
THIS is what this Canadian sees my American friends. If Hillary wins the Presidency, she will face THE SAME situation the President is in now if the R’s retain both houses. Those are the races that really matter
Beatlex
Choice…I like Lincoln a lot but he is a lightweight.
murphthesurf3
Hey CL, same as it ever was. Keep on keepin on. I’m doing well, just a bit more contemplative about life in general than I normally am.
killgoretrout
AdLib – if I could answer that one question, “what’s wrong with people” I’d make a fortune as a guru. I don’t know – did not stop her from asking me to get on HER issues again. Grrrrr.
choicelady
Murph – that’s my understanding of Chaffee, yes.
choicelady
KT – are you in OH or MA?
choicelady
Murph – I’m not on board with Hillary either. I’m actually looking for a potential Dem opponent who is a viable Progressive. May not happen but until the GE, I’m not ready for Hillary.
adlib 7 days ago
Well Harleigh, their clones have risen. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and the ever constant religious fanatics like Huckabee.

pinkpantheroz
AdLib – I’m there with you. I don’t trust her fully at all.
choicelady
Beatle….your reading is correct….but the Dems should win back the Senate, but the House is out reach until post 2020 and only then if the State Houses have returned to some balance.
murphthesurf3
Hey Sabreen!!! Lovely to see you!
choicelady

killgoretrout
hey sabreen
Harleigh
Murph, what makes you sure they will win back the senate?
Beatlex
Murph – there is a huge movement to do voter registration in gerrymandered states – might help win the house before 2020.
choicelady
Evening Sabreen!
adlib 7 days ago
Ad Lib and Choice…..I do not see a viable Progressive alternative…..do you?
murphthesurf3
Het Lady, good to see ya. How have you been? Sabreen?
killgoretrout
Beatlex–for sure Hilllary will face the same thing PBO faces now. I do have hope that Dems will be swept back into Congress in 2016 because it will be a presidential election and more people turn out. So…there is that. It may be the same situation as PBO. First two years with Dems, then the rest of the time with the batshit crazies.
glenn
KT – OMG – you’re one of those people with a summer home then??? Maybe not JUST like the Rockefellers, but in the ballpark! LOL!
choicelady
Murph – no. I don’t see a viable progressive.
choicelady
Beatle…..the GOP will have to defend many more seats this time around and in general elections where the Dems win the WH they take the Senate…..it is the election cycle based on state political makeup.
murphthesurf3

KT – O
sabreen60

Hi Sabreen!
glenn

I honestly thought 2012 cycle had the limit on bizarre whackdoodle candidates, This cycle is already fucking hysterical and it’s only 2015.
Harleigh
KT – Oops. Hit the enter key. I’m fine. I’ve missed you!
sabreen60
Murph – what I just cannot tolerate is the number of people who are OK with the wackadoodles in Congress. Don’t they SEE the problems?
choicelady
Hardly CL. I go to help out the mom. She owns a two bedroom ranch, in a working class (small and somewhat secluded neighborhood) on the Cape. The rich need the workers, even on the Cape!
killgoretrout
Choice….the Dems HAVE TO begin reeducating the base…..we cannot beat the GOP in the money game so we need to replace the unions with a cadre of bright and informed people who drive the vote.
murphthesurf3
KT – I know that. I’m poking fun, but it IS nice you can be in MA or OH. I realize you’re not living large in either place!
choicelady
CL–according to the wackadoodles who vote for the congressional wackadoodles, the Dems are the problem.
glenn
in Ohio, I live in an old motel that has been converted into studio apartments.
killgoretrout
glenn – oh sure. Dems are the problem cutting everything the voting wackadoodles want, of course.
choicelady

Let’s remember that a Presidential election is a choice and if it’s a choice between a third Bush disaster of a Presidency and Hillary, I don’t think any amount of Koch money can convince a majority of voters to go to Bush Hell again.
adlib 7 days ago
Harleigh – this is absurdness times over. It’s the Dems’ fault they don’t point fingers at the REAL culprits for the harm done to people.
choicelady
The Cape has such a rareified natural beauty. Many places do, but I think the Cape has it’s own combination.
killgoretrout
AdLib – I live in infinite hope you are correct. I don’t think people are THAT stupid, but hey…
choicelady
AdLib – I’m rooting for Cruz to be the GOP nom precisely to prevent anyone else seriously challenging the Dem.
choicelady
AdLib – I hope you’re right. But when I look at suppression tactics, I just hope Democrats will do whatever is necessary to vote. The other thing I worry about are the voting machines.
sabreen60
CL–I live in a republican state, and according to most of the comments that I read in the local paper, that is exactly the problem. The Dems won’t let the poor, persecuted christians discriminate; etc. These people are just blinded by hatred. It’s unexplainable, IMO. Even when a columnist makes rational, factual arguments, they never answer the points; they just come up with their debunked talking points, or make up even more bizarre comments.
glenn
What a joke Rand Paul is proving himself to be. The king of avoidance interview.
killgoretrout
Consider that the Repub candidates are now on record for wanting to go to war with Iran, laws that legalize bigotry and taking away health care from 10 million Americans. That’s a winning platform to become President in 2016? I don’t think so.
adlib 7 days ago
CL I just kinda duct tape my jaw to keep it from hitting the tile floor whenever I watch some of these ridiculous interviews of real rural tbag people and not the fake ones like Duck Dynasty. holy shit.
Harleigh
I think the GOP is in for a real ass whoopin in 2016. They may have revelled in the midterm victories, but the persidential election is a whole different matter. The GOPers just can’t stop themselves from revealing their crazy. People are taking notice.
killgoretrout

choicelady
Murph,THX,I hope it happens, but even then, the house fu++s everything up!
Beatlex
Does anyone think Rand Paul will even make it to the primary? Seems he steps on his crank every day. He walked out of an interview with the Guardian today. Rand “walkabout” Paul.
glenn
Beatlex _ We might even throw those suckers out. But it will take a concerted effort from the Dems, and I’m not sure they’re up to it. Bring back Howard Dean!!!
choicelady
AdLib – It’s not just Republicans. Schumer, Booker, Cardin and of course the sponsors of both bills are on the side of Boehner, the RWNJs and Netanyahu. We’ve had a campaign on Twitter to flood these Dems with our email, tweets and calls.
sabreen60

Rand wants to dad, but better. Just like that little shit W.
killgoretrout
Sabreen – Oddly, voting machine irregularities at least in 2012 weren’t much of an issue. It could happen in 2016 but the voter suppression tactics do need a great deal of attention.

Ad–the worry, I think, is legislators trying to change how the electoral college votes are counted in states. This is the big issue coming up, IMO, and I hope the press will cover it. I know Rachel Maddow is on it, but haven’t heard much from the “mainsream” press about it.

adlib 7 days ago

Sabreen – Good point! I cautioned before about Schumer being a weasel when he was being mentioned to take over the leadership from Reid, he is such a corrupt and sell-out of a pol. He panders to Wall Street and big corps, he’s an adversary of Progressives.

Ted Cruz is just taking the place of Rick Santorum. Cruz will suffer the same fate. He is just too religiously fanatical and he doesn’t realize that that sort of religious fanaticism won’t go over for the young voter. His supporters are a dying breed, in their late stages of life.

Real savings could be realized by eliminating all red state welfare like socialist roads, snow removal, bridges, tunnels, clean water, sewage treatment, and flood control. All Medicaid, ACA HC, NIH, CDC involvement, food inspection, farm subsidies, SNAP, FEMA and EPA should be eliminated in those states along with money for fire, police and prison services. Most military installations in those states are total waste and need to be closed or consolidated into the blue states. The biggest waste of money in the red states is for education. While that spending has been greatly lowered the remainder could go to the richest 1% allowing all those 99% children to go work in factories or in warehouses or on the poison laden farms. Praise jebus!

It is a good idea to secede the entire Texassissippianahomasas region for several reasons; 1. The average IQ of the remainder of the nation would go up at least 30 points. 2. The average median income would go up over $10,000. 3. The average educational level would go from 6th grade dropout to college level. 4. We would save hundreds of billions in waste on their education, welfare and infrastructure. 5. Their new kuntry could be called teabaggertopia, or Neojebusland or Concrapia maybe. The Texassissippianahomasas region has already been rejected by Mexico saying that accepting all those teabaggers in that region would greatly reduce their national standards.

A certain amount of fight has to be present in our dealings with the rest of the world. Look at the national symbol. The eagle with olive leaves in one claw, and arrows in the other. adlib 7 days ago
Sabreen, they were all lied to about Iraq. Obama wasn’t even in Congress to vote, at the time. This always bothered me about Obama’s claim to be against the decision to invade. If PBO wanted to be politically correct, seems to me he wouldn’t have taken a position on the war one way or the other. “The following is a transcript of the remarks then-Sen. Barack Obama delivered in Chicago on Oct. 2, 2002. In his speech, Obama said that what he was opposed to was “a dumb war … a rash war.” He said the war was a “cynical attempt” to shove “ideological agendas down our throats” and would distract from domestic problems such as poverty and health care.”
sabreen60

KT – I too would say that Obama will be a very huge topic in the 2016 race. Obamacare, Iran, financial regulations, immigration, the Repubs will be trying to portray Hillary as Obama and I fear Hillary will attack Obama to distance herself from him. That will cost her in enthusiasm and contributions from an important and powerful segment of the Dem base.

True Sabreen, but overall, everybody was lied to. Hillary is not a pacifist, that’s for sure. I don’t want a pacifist as commander-in-chief. I do want a president who has accurate intel and the ability to know when it is best to stay out of a conflict or to engage in one. Histrory has proven Iraq was a huge mistake, but the lie was that it wouldn’t be a war. The lie was that it would be over in “six day, six weeks, or six months.” The lie continued by claiming that the Iraqis would greet us as liberators, and Iraqi oli would pay for the “war.” The whole thing was sold on a pack of lies. The absolute pacicifist congress people voted no. They were right, as history has shown, but I do not blame Hillary, or condemn her for wanting to protect the US. She was wrong in her decision. That doesn’t make he a hawk. Look at what she has done as Secretary of State.
