Harleigh

Welcome PPO! Will be right back!
adlib 7 days ago

Harleigh, No Hurricanes ( cyclones) this south, but we do get the occasional tornado, not huge ones like in Tornado ally, but rip-off-the -roof size.
pinkpantheroz

Up in the tropics, H, they do get big cyclones. I was in Darwin in 1974. 2 days after I left for Melbourne, the town was wiped out by Cyclone tracey. God! Its been 40 years since I came to Australia?!!

sabreen60

Sabreen, easier to buy a ticket on QANTAS

pinkpantheroz

Murph, lucky on both counts I think.

adlib 7 days ago

Ad, make sure the iron is plugged in firast!
pinkpantheroz

Sab, clicking your heels together as you board a Qantas flight will do it.

I think I’ll book a flight to the computer repair center on Qantas.
adlib 7 days ago

Sabreen – Yes, that’s about right. Oh, here’s your tequila!
adlib 7 days ago

Thank you AdLib. I will enjoy!
sabreen60

So, just a couple of weeks until the new Republican Congress emerges from the slime.
adlib 7 days ago

Out with Bachmann and in with Ernst.
Harleigh

AdLib – I hope I don’t blow my budget on Tequila over the next 2 years.
sabreen60

Harleigh

First day of this Congress, passing a repeal of ACA, an approval of the Keystone XL and repealing The Constitution. Or at least 2 out of 3.
adlib 7 days ago

Harleigh – Ernst The Worst?
adlib 7 days ago

Sabreen – I think hard liquor stocks will go up big time in the next year so buy up!
adlib 7 days ago

That’s what they say AD.
Harleigh

Veto! EO’s. That’s what I’m waiting for.
sabreen60

Lots of that Sabreen
Harleigh

What’s the SCOTUS going to do with the ACA?
sabreen60

Oh yeah, Obama has no restrictions on doing what he wants now, no more elections about him. EOs, vetoes and plenty of noogies on John Boehner’s head.
adlib 7 days ago

Sabreen – Just a guess right now but I think the ACA will emerge intact…unless Roberts wants his place in history as the man and court that directly killed and caused the suffering of millions of Americans.
adlib 7 days ago

Sure hope you’re right, AdLib.
sabreen60

death panel Roberts
Harleigh

hi kalima
Harleigh

Dread Pirate Roberts?
adlib 7 days ago

Sabreen – I’m not super confident about that, wishful thinking right now.
adlib 7 days ago

Good article in Wall Street Journal today about an Obama LEGISLATIVE strategy….basically an outreach to a number of Congress folks in both parties outlining action and NOT wating to react…once again taking the initiative. I wonder if he can get his job approval above 50 percent.
murphthesurf3

It’s just that I don’t put anything past these Repubs. Even letting their kid stand on the back of a dog. Okay. I know the Tundra Tart is not in politics
sabreen60

hope so murph.
Harleigh

Palib -Bachmann 2016 for jebus! halalujer!
Harleigh

Murph, it may already be above 50%. Gallop has been wrong as well as other pollsters in the past. But then again Americans are so clueless when it comes to the workings of the government. Thanks in large part to an corporate owned media.
sabreen60

Sab- objectively yes but among those in the polling groups?
murphthesurf3

Murph – That’s very interesting, hope it’s accurate and works out. And most importantly…I hope Obama doesn’t triangulate though like Clinton and give Repubs a lot of what they want just to pass other things.
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib, I doubt it. If he has done in the past, I don’t see him doing it now. If you look at the record over the past 6 years, he’s come out on top.
sabreen60

ALL- I was at a briefing today re. ACA…..we are ahead of projected enrollments by 7 percent in Mo. and nationwide it is at 5 percent.
murphthesurf3

Meant “has NOT”
sabreen60

That’s great Murph. I know the Obama Diary had national numbers and the ACA is looking pretty good.
sabreen60

Sabreen – Just like a Repub, proud of stepping on those they see as inferior to help themselves.
adlib 7 days ago

Ad- the poison pills in the CRomnibus do have me worried but he seems to playing this smart.
murphthesurf3

Sabreen – True, most of the time that’s true but I wasn’t happy with some of the nasty Repub stuff in the budget bill he just signed.
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib, like what?
sabreen60

He could start by taking pot off Sched 1
Harleigh

Murph – That’s great news about ACA enrollment. If the Roberts court does try to kill the ACA, I hope 10 million people who just lost their health insurance will ring the SCOTUS and not let them out until they overturn their ruling.
adlib 7 days ago

Har – Can he do that? Or is that up to Congress?
sabreen60

He can do it
Harleigh

Looks like Grimm’s fairy tale is over. Good. Oops! Shouldn’t have said fairy and Grimm in the same sentence!
pinkpantheroz

Sabreen – It passed a Citigroup provision that makes all of us taxpayers insure their risky derivatives again…the very thing that destroyed our economy.
adlib 7 days ago

PPO – Yep. Now to get rid of Scalise, but his fellow Repubs (especially Boehner) won’t kick him to the curb.
sabreen60

AdLib, I read a really good article about that. I don’t think it’s as bad as some people think. If I can remember where I read it, I’ll provide a link.
sabreen60

scalise = duke the grand wizard
Harleigh

What does it say about that district’s voters that they would waste an election in voting for the guy who was under criminal prosecution?
adlib 7 days ago

Right you are, Sabreen. The GOP is so morally bankrupt, they’d go to the gates of Hell to scratch a vote.
pinkpantheroz

Ad, betcha Fux Noose didn’t mention that little fact
pinkpantheroz

Sabreen – I would be interested to read it. Elizabeth Warren said she read it closely and that it was pretty awful. Remember, she led the push against the Cromnibus?
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib, I know. But I’ll not comment on Warren’s comment until I can find the article.
sabreen60

You have to admit, the GOP Congress starting off with a federal criminal in their midst and a closet Klansman in their leadership…sure doesn’t sound like it’s headed for glory.
adlib 7 days ago

Repubs forget that one of the main reasons they were voted out last time they controlled Congress…was the corruption and criminality. An elephant always forgets.
adlib 7 days ago

Ad, the problem is that the US folk are stuck with the cretins for a while. My bet is that the only decent legislation to come will be via Exec. Orders.
pinkpantheroz

I can’t wait for Ernst to make her mark! LOL
Harleigh

AdLib, Here’s a quicky re the banks. I think the question is would a government shutdown been worth it? This provision, Section 716, required banks to put portions of their riskier derivatives businesses into holding companies. The idea was to separate some of the bank’s riskier trading in things like credit default swaps and commodities into a separate entity not insured by US taxpayers. But banks have balked at the rule since it was passed in 2010. Citigroup, one of the country’s largest banks, wrote a measure repealing the provision, and with help from JP Morgan’s Jamie Dimon, managed to get Republicans to include it in the final $1.1bn budget bill.
sabreen60

PPO , yep, Congress is likely a wasteland for 2 years. And while they BS, Obama will act.
adlib 7 days ago

Sabreen – Right, that explains it well. It sounds pretty bad though.
adlib 7 days ago

I’ve also got a problem with the Dems! What the hell are they doing not backing POTUS? thay need a good kick up the arse to get their act together and start doing things as a cohesive group
pinkpantheroz

HAHAHAHA good one PPO
Harleigh

sab- good summary of the treachery….a side note..I think that both companies saw a boom on the horizon and they want to b able to take maximum advantage of it…derivatives give them the max.
murphthesurf3

Harleigh – Ernst will make her mark by whittling a confederate flag into her desk.
adlib 7 days ago

Murph, I vaguely remember, when Pres. Obama was elected, he kicked out load of lobbyists. that doesn’t seem to have worked. I wonder if he could exec order a repeat
pinkpantheroz

PPO – Whether some see it as a negative, the loss of most Blue Dogs from Congress means the Dems won’t need to pander to their Repub voters now…and will have far less reasons for opposing or attacking Obama.
adlib 7 days ago

PPO- I don’t think that Obama had much impact on lobbyists but the Dodd Frank Bill did by acting against their wishes…this is the push back from that.
murphthesurf3

Ad, I see that, but it makes you sick what all pollies will do to remain popular. Not one set of balls among ’em. Maybe Ernst has been busy behind the scenes!
pinkpantheroz

AdLib et al – Did I hear that in 2016 the Dems will only have to defend 10 Senate seats and the Repubs 24? It was the Senate and not the House, right?
sabreen60

Sabreen – Yes and many of those Repubs are in states Obama won. It is highly unlikely that Repubs will retain The Senate. As for The House, we’re kind of stuck with Repubs cheating their way into control due to gerrymandering. It will be at leaset until 2022 until the redistricting could be reversed and only if Dems control states in 2020.
adlib 7 days ago

Ad Lib….the reality for Boehner is this…..in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 he did not get a single legislative accomplishment to his credit…he had to have Dem votes every time….now he has more GOP in the House but many of them are not HIS….he will continue to need Dems and those Dems are no Blue Dogs No Mo.
murphthesurf3

PPO – It is ironic that Ernst got elected over castrating hogs while the Dems showed no balls and lost.
adlib 7 days ago

Murph, hope you’re right
pinkpantheroz

Ad, right. will 2 years be enought for some Dems to grow a pair?
pinkpantheroz

Ad Lib….the fruits of Democratic apathy, lack of confidence, unrealistic expectations, and poor dicipline in 2012 IS 12 YEARS OF GOP DOMINANCE IN THE HOUSE….someone needs to shove that down the throats of every Dem.
murphthesurf3

AdLib, Won’t the census occur in 2020? If so, that’s when re-districting can take place, right?
sabreen60

BRB
pinkpantheroz

Murph – I wish I knew how to get the American people to stop being so damn apathetic.
sabreen60

Sab…redistricting is drawn up by the Legislatures for 2022 after the 2010 census.
murphthesurf3

Murph – It does seem that Boehner doesn’t care about his place in history, just his place in power…even if he’s folded so many times, he’s lost most of his power. I can’t imagine him steering towards the Dems and the middle unless he has a gun to his head. And considering TPs, that may be more possible than some imagine.
adlib 7 days ago

Murph, I see.
sabreen60

AdLib, How many Speakers do you know? I’m sure you know more than most. I don’t think Boehner gives a rat’s ass about his place in history.
sabreen60

PPO – Dems pandered in this election because Obama’s numbers were down, that won’t matter in 2016. I think Dems will be very populist in 2016 since the Repubs will have spent 2 years fighting for the 1%.
adlib 7 days ago

time for bed folks! later
Harleigh

Ad-Boehner will need Dem votes again and again..he will have no choice. He may not care for his place in history but if he does not produce he will be pushed to the side.
murphthesurf3

Sabreen – Many Speakers and Congresspeople have considered their place in history but not Boehner. He will go down as one of the worst and weakest in our history. No accomplishments, fewest bills past, the most useless Congress.
adlib 7 days ago

Night Harleigh!
adlib 7 days ago

Take care Harleigh.
murphthesurf3

Murph – But the Repubs won’t bush Boehner aside UNLESS he sides too much with Dems for votes. So Boehner is about to live the nightmare he deserves.
adlib 7 days ago

Good night Harleigh!
sabreen60

Er…make that “push”, not “bush”.
adlib 7 days ago

AdLib, I know some care. My point is I bet the average American citizen couldn’t name 3 Speakers if their life depended on it.
sabreen60

Ad- But if the GOP cannot score legislatively then the obstructionist images holds and grows. That is not what they need right now. Until they do something, they can’t mount a case for being able to govern.
murphthesurf3

I think that 2015 will lay the GOP wide open to the public and sour them at the sight. Doing bad things in Congress, campaigning to attract the racists, misogynists and extremists in the Repub camp to vote for them in the Presidential primary…Dems won’t have to take the GOP down, they will do an excellent job themselves.
adlib 7 days ago

The MSM made it their priority to go negative on PBO and the Dems were too weak to push back. I really don’t know what we can do about no longer having a Fourth Estate.
sabreen60

Sabreen – Politicians are generally pretty self-centered, they think about how they will appear in history books that they will read. But not Boehner, he’s an underachiever that only thinks about staying in his chair at any price. I’d call him a prostitute but that would be an insut to prostitutes.
adlib 7 days ago

Murph – Well…you know the GOP, they will simply blame Obama and promise that with a Repub President, they can accomplish all kinds of fantasies. I don’t know that the American public is THAT stupid.
adlib 7 days ago

Well the midnight hour approaches. I think I’ll call it a night. Happy New Year, again everyone. Take care.
sabreen60

Ad- He is a low functioning alcoholic and fits the profile very well.
murphthesurf3

The GOP relies on Propaganda Propaganda relies on images and emotions, especially fear. It is also uibiquitous. It is everywhere pounding in its message to affirm the choices of those already in line to swing into line those wavering, and to bring those on the line or a bit over it to come to its side. Ignorance and apathy are its allies and go hand in hand with disengagement and manipulation
murphthesurf3

Good night Sabreen
murphthesurf3

Night Sabreen!
adlib 7 days ago

Murph – Yep, you nailed it!
adlib 7 days ago

Ad…now can we get enough others to see the truth.
murphthesurf3

Murph – But propaganda only goes so far and so far, judging by the past two elections, the majority isn’t convinced by it. In off year elections it’s successful but not in Presidential.
adlib 7 days ago

Presidential elections without the midterms…..2010! and a lot of opportunity squandered.
murphthesurf3

Can Repubs spend enough money on propaganda to get a majority of Americans to elect another Bush? I don’t think so.
adlib 7 days ago

The billions of untapped wealth to take over is a very good investment….look at the derivative deal in the Cromnibus…payoff!
murphthesurf3

Yep, such a waste but many things have been and continue to get accomplished. True, the wealthy have plenty of control in DC but less so in GEs for President.
adlib 7 days ago

And we cannot leave out the growing control in the state legislatures and governships.
murphthesurf3

With a Dem President and Dem Senate winning in 2016, the big deal is replacing a RW SCOTUS member. Even without being able to lead The House, things could change big time in this country with 5 liberals on the court.
adlib 7 days ago

I think that the control of the Senate by the Dems is far from guaranteed.
murphthesurf3

The saving grace is that 2020 is a Presidential year, unlike 2010 so Dems could take over states for the next Census and the Repub gerrymandering could be greatly reduced, helping Dems control all of Congress again along with the WH. If that happens again, I would hope they would put the pedal to the metal.
adlib 7 days ago

Murph – Only 10 seats for Dems to defend, 25 for Repubs and a number in swing states? I think they are likely to win The Senate back.
adlib 7 days ago

I have seen state by state breakdowns that are not promising.
murphthesurf3

This google page will depress you. https://www.google.com/search?q=democrats+doubt+senate+win+2016&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
murphthesurf3

For me, more and more, it is the power of money to shape the electorate and the GOP has that in abundance.
murphthesurf3

Murph – Maybe so but it is far too early to give up or feel depressed about Dem chances. Could be a huge female turnout for Dems in 2016 which changes many guesses being made now.
adlib 7 days ago

Women voters were fooled in 2014 and money was a key in shaping the message that won the day.
murphthesurf3

I’ve read some of these chest pounding articles and they’re all just speculation. Dem turnout was very depressed in 2014 as in most off year elections. The real question is if these pundits genuinely believe the BS they spread.
adlib 7 days ago

And women voters did not turn out in the numbers that they do in Presidential elections. Off year elections reflect the will of a minority.
