• AdLib : BTW, have to leave my one contribution to this, “Gone in Thirsty Seconds”.

  • AdLib : Thanks, pal! Really looking forward to your articles. Hope things get somewhat back to normal for you and the family! Take care!

  • funksands : Ad, I better turn in. Hope you and your family are well. I’ve got some articles in the hopper I’m excited to post. The madness is starting to slow down at work finally. Take care.

  • funksands : A Street Car named Desani. Very clever.

  • funksands : The Swig Chill

  • AdLib : Oh jeez, I’m laughing at all the ones under that hash tag! One last one from the list, “Like Water for Elephants”.

  • funksands : Lord of the Springs

  • AdLib : Gulp Fiction.

  • funksands : LOL

  • AdLib : Just saw, “This is Spinal Tap Water”. Too funny!

  • funksands : I wish. :-)

  • funksands : This is the image that killed a career. «link»

  • AdLib : Good one! Yours?

  • AdLib : So true, the good thing though is that so many people will experience it first hand and immediately recognize what a good it is for them.

  • funksands : Zero Dark Thirsty

  • AdLib : Just saw the night’s trend on Twitter, #RubioFilms, film titles that fit him now. One was Open Water.

  • funksands : It had better be promoted 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. No one reports on the cat that got out of the tree, just the ones still stuck up there.

  • AdLib : Yep, I’ve seen the Dos Equis reference being very popular. Love it!

  • funksands : The twitter savagery of Marco Rubio in full swing. (tweet) “I don’t always drink water, but when I do, its during the biggest moment of my career.” #staythirsty

  • AdLib : Since the state exchanges will be coming on line next year along with the end of the pre-existing condition BS, I think it will bode very well for Obama and the Dems and this issue which Repubs benefited from because of their lies about what it would cause, will be buried by it.

  • funksands : The wild card in all this is how the full implementation of the ACA affects the political calculations. I bet positively

  • AdLib : When Christie sits around the capitol…

  • AdLib : Meanwhile, the Repubs will howl against every EO Obama makes but they will continue to be seen as the problem in our government, not Obama using EOs as they will try to push.

  • funksands : Good point.

  • funksands : Christie has the gravitas of a small moon.

  • AdLib : I think you’re right. He also needs cover from the American public on whatever EOs he issues and this speech only helps him with that. Americans see what he wants to do and how the Repubs are just angry idiots, they stand behind him as he does all he can with the powers he has.

  • funksands : That’s his only hope. I think he’s resigned (unfortunately) that the chess match is now about positioning for 2014. He may not get much done at all over the next two years, but may accomplish a lot politically.

  • AdLib : Yes, lightweight is exactly the word that fits Rubio. Just like Ryan, Jindal, etc., the Repubs that are presented as saviors of the party are all lightweights. Except Chris Christie of course, that’s one term that just doesn’t work on him.

  • AdLib : Yes and he has America behind him. The numbers on Congress, as the Repubs have ground it to a halt and blackmailed the nation, have plummeted so they are so easy to affix blame to for what they do. He has a strong wedge against the Repubs in Congress and the truth is, most Americans support most of Obama’s proposals. Without gerrymandering, he’d be getting them passed by a Dem Congress this term. Who knows though, in 2014, enough people may be fed up with Repubs to allow for a Dem Congress again.

  • funksands : Rubio is such a lightweight. Just like every other clown they have in that party.

  • funksands : Have you noticed that veeeeerrrry gradually the Pres. has started treating the Congress with the contempt it deserves? Its really subtle, but every day I feel it more. He’s distancing himself in reality and perception. Less and less people blame him problems

  • AdLib : I guess tonight proves that Marco Rubio has a drinking problem.

  • AdLib : Funk – So glad that Obama has maintained that course against the Repubs, calling them out for what they are really doing and challenging them to grow up. He looks big, they look small.

  • funksands : Marco Rubio (FL – Sippy Cup)

  • AdLib : Murph – It’s all about the company that makes the night a success! Thanks to you and everyone else for a very fun night!

  • funksands : Agreed. I think I fully saw the President’s strategy on display. Cooperate, and I’ll play along, don’t, and I’ll just slip back into campaign mode to further marginalize you. Either way, I’m done “reaching out”.

  • AdLib : Night Murph, thanks for the chuckle!

  • AdLib : Funk – The Repubs were bringing up all kinds of antique attacks against Obama and they felt so creaky and out of place. They’ve got nothin’ now, just attacks and in speeches that are supposed to be about vision, they just don’t work, they seem so juxtaposed.

  • funksands : Night Murph.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad lib…really good night this time.

  • funksands : Thanks! Its good to see you guys.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : funk…yeah…we ll my eyes are not cooperating…so to bed.

  • AdLib : Funk – Glad you popped in though!

  • funksands : Murph, sure does. Lot more foul-mouthed though

  • AdLib : Murph – Oh yeah, Jindal is smiling tonight. I said it earlier, he knows that for Repubs, since they all seem so messed up, it’s grading on the curve to win the nom and now he’s up on Rubio after the gulp.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Thank God I lost some weight.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Funk….uncooper ative kids? Sounds like the GOP

  • funksands : I love how the GOP turned over a new leaf….by bringing up Solydra. ;-)

  • AdLib : I just saw a comment aimed at Rubio, from the Dos Equis ad, “Be thirsty, my friend!”

  • funksands : I just ducked in. Kids were not cooperative tonight.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad Lib…Jindal has to be smirking tonight….”Not so easy ay Marco?”

  • AdLib : KQ – You do have a purty mouth.

  • funksands : I think the President was very smart in this state of the union. He’s made it very clear that if the GOP refuses to play, he’s more than happen to keep appealing to the voters on very popular issues to further marginalize them.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Hey when did funk sneak in.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yup I just hope we don’t cross anyone with banjos.

  • AdLib : Hey Funk! Missed ya, where ya been?

  • AdLib : Night KQ, have a fantastic time and definitely, lots of good rest!

  • funksands : Night KQ, have fun!

  • KQµårk 死神 : I need to go too. We are off to the GA mountains for Valentine’s day weekend tomorrow. Hope to get major R&R.

  • AdLib : KQ – I think so, Obama came off as brilliant, visionary, confident and Presidential. Rubio and the Repubs came off like confused and angry little children in comparison.

  • AdLib : Murph – I must be to the right of someone!

  • AdLib : Rubio did seem to have his Jindal moment, when he had an extended time to talk all on his own and came off like an inept, nervous and poorly prepared amateur. Heh, I remember when Fred Thompson was built up to be the next Reagan in 2008!

  • KQµårk 死神 : This really was a Checkmate for Obama.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad Lib…Right you are….oh, sorry…Your correct, not right.

  • AdLib : Murph – That would be hilarious! And no, the Baggers wouldn’t get it, they don’t even get that Stephen Colbert is a parody, they think he’s really a bagger like them!

  • choicelady : Gotta go all – good night and thank you!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL…yeah.

  • AdLib : CL – Say hi to hubby for me, great having you here tonight! See you on Friday and thanks for keeping me up to date on HOPE! Good luck!

  • choicelady : Murph – you’re right. Why waste all that on people who’d think you MEANT Rubio was the Second Coming? Don’t help them. They’re already nuts.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AD LIB…LOVE THE IMAGE a campaign based on thirst…how about a poster with Rubio on a cross with the vertical beam being deficit spending, and a horizontal beam being obama socialism. Him handing from the cross with the words “I thirst…for responsible spending…and a real patriot in the White House.” OH WAIT THE TEA PARTY CROWD WOULD NOT GET THE SARCASM…NEVER MIND.

  • choicelady : I think I need to leave also but because husband, love of my life, is slavering for the computer of which we have only one. Bad planning. See you all Friday! AdLib – I will let you know how things go Thursday when I prowl the halls of power armed with HOPE. Good night all!

  • AdLib : CL – Well, I can always make some bumper stickers up at our Zazzle store if Rubio runs!

  • choicelady : ‘Night foodchain!

  • foodchain : Good Night all. Everyone take care

  • foodchain : I think Dems need just this kind of tooling-bumper sticker statements

  • choicelady : Good night, Murph – see you Friday indeed. Be well!

  • choicelady : AdLib – you have missed your calling writing bumper stickers! THAT is GREAT!

  • foodchain : Thirsty for Power is a Stitch!!

  • AdLib : Night Foodchain! Sleep well!

  • AdLib : Cheers Murph, get some rest and see you on Vox!

  • foodchain : Hello and goodnight Sabreen, both of us down for the count!

  • choicelady : It interests me that some of the women – Soledad O’Brian, a couple whose names I can’t recall on MSNBC, and a few others are rising on the point that they are calling out the BS they’re being handed. I find the analyses they bring to the news REALLY thoughtful and incisive. It appears they can call out the jerks because they do it more flatly and politely but nonetheless directly than some men can do. I think they’re going to be game changers. But Engel? YES – he needs to be cloned. Wonderful reporting.

  • AdLib : OT but a new bumper sticker for Rubio, “RUBIO 2016 – I’M THIRSTY FOR POWER!”

  • MurphTheSurf3 : So many good thoughts from so many good thinkers….but the sunrise does not care that I am staying up late and there are things needing doing….best to you all…see ya on Friday…

  • AdLib : KQ – Agreed, the game playing and worrying about perceptions that skews the honesty of our media is a big problem. Before corporate ownership, the media could voice more honest appraisals because a drop in viewership out of protest of truths they don’t like wouldn’t result in a firing. Nowadays, the corporate mantra of profit gets in the way of presenting things the way they really are, even if it upsets a big demo.

  • choicelady : Sabreen – I did not even say HI, so go tend your dying husband. Mine’s the same. Take care of him – and you!

  • KQµårk 死神 : CL Engel is the best they need to clone him.

  • KQµårk 死神 : GN Sabreen

  • AdLib : Sorry to hear that Sabreen! Hope you both get a good night’s sleep!

  • AdLib : CL – Yes, so true. The European media perspective on politics (aside from Murdoch owned rags) seems so much more thoughtful in their analysis than in the US.

  • Sabreen60 : I forgot to say good night. I had to go make some more tea. My hubby has a bad cold so of course he’s dying. Is that a stereotype? Nite all.

  • AdLib : CL – I do think the messenger is important so even though some of O’Donnell’s message is right on target for me, he comes off as one of those elitist, egotistical, entitled types which I don’t feel best represent what Progressives are. Obama nails the image in every way though.

  • choicelady : KQ and all – we do lack the kind of decent analysis we deserve. I DO love listening to BBC when I can. One exception? I DETEST their business reporters who are all mired in Thatcherism to this day. Bah! Otherwise, they do get it. On foreign matters, Richard Engel still rocks for me though – he is excellent. Always learn from him. Anderson Cooper is NOT BAD either over at CNN. But not much works.

  • KQµårk 死神 : I get that Murph but the problem is then they are complicit with rest of the MSM that fails to convey the truth for some kind of faux balance.

  • choicelady : AdLib – O’D is good for standing down the unicorn wishers because he’s realistic about what needs to happen to get what is wanted. I DO agree that I watch him less and less as the ooze (lovely word) gets more and more tiresome. I WANT to like him – I knew Moynihan’s Buffalo District Chief of Staff, and one night they ALL, including O’D. wound up at a restaurant I frequented a block from my house. That’s the closest I get to fame! Moynihan’s district director though remains a good friend, and he’s now heading econ. development for Cuomo’s team. So I’m good there! LOL!!!

  • AdLib : Murph – That seems to be what happens when the substance of something has been so decimated by the greedy, the investment of effort is placed merely on trying to change people’s perception of a crap sandwich as being tasty instead of making a tasty sandwich.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yup AdLib. Face it quite a few pundits are arrogant like O’Donnell but much better pundits when it comes to predictions and understanding the big picture.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : KQ…MSNBC works hard NOT to be Fox on the Left….so they leash the progressive cheerleading…p erhaps too much so.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Right now it seems like Rachel is the only one that understands the impact of Obama’s speech. I’m underwhelmed by MSNBC again.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad Lib…several of the commenters tonight have said what you did- the GOP is focused on HOW they say the same old same old…massive fail.

  • AdLib : CL – I’ll agree that from his own experience, O’Donnell does know how bills are passed. He has some good qualities but one trait I find very undesirable in anyone is that of egotism and O’Donnell just oozes with that.

  • choicelady : RATS – the books: Plot Against Hitler (1935) with Jeff Sharlet’s hard but good book, “The Family” and add in “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” and you see the threads, both historical and contemporary of these horrific people. They have been powerful. They are LOSING authority because of Obama and their public “outing”.

  • KQµårk 死神 : I think he was a better staffer than pundit by far.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Choice- the dominionist insight fills in some of the story for me…it is a powerful thread running throughout contemporary history…..AND I endorse your take on O’Donnell AND I add that I think a number of his predictions are tongue in cheek…put out there to create discussion.

  • KQµårk 死神 : CL I agree. He’s really one of the few pundits that have walked the walk by being a chief of staff.

  • choicelady : AdLib – the web of deceit and global domination among Dominionists world wide is scary as hell. Put together “The Plot

  • AdLib : CL – Very interesting point. There might also be something to be said about any who crave dominance and power, playing the same game of Dress Up to deceive enough people into supporting their greedy goal. Eventually, such people either gain power and expose their evil or play the game for so long that the game becomes obvious and their evil is betrayed.

  • choicelady : All – I will defned O’Donnell on one score, and that is that given a complex bill issue, he DOES understand the process of passage. He has often been the antidote to the hair on fire Progs, and I will always LOVE him for trashing Jane Hamsher for the uninformed polemecist she is. So he has some good qualities!

  • choicelady : Murph – that is a very apt comparison. Most people do not remotely understand that the Baggers and apartheid supporters et al. are part of the web of Dominionists who seek white Christian dominance of the world. They all sound alike because they ARE all the same.

  • AdLib : KQ – I bet if we look at all of the big political decisions, O’Donnell would have a below 50% average…while most here would beat that by far. Fame and good fortune doesn’t mean you’re smarter than anyone else and O’DOnnell proves that on a daily basis.

  • AdLib : Murph – You really nailed that, so true. Rubio, Paul, the whole RW political machine sounds hollower with each passing day. Their focus on “messaging” instead of issues sure seems to have run its course. There is no product to sell anymore, just the commercials.

  • AdLib : KQ – Very pleased to hear that kind of dignity has been given to Americans, instead of being treated like some product that can be tossed out at any time.

  • KQµårk 死神 : AdLib O’Donnell is the biggest Nostradumbarse of them all. He also predicted that the ACA would never pass.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad Lib- both Rubio and Paul reminded me of the pro-apartheid leaders in S Africa and Zimbabwe whose words were hollower and hollower as events passed them by.

  • AdLib : Night Kes, feel better and better and sleep well!

  • AdLib : KQ – I never listen to O’Donnell about much anymore. At the start of the GOP primaries, he declared that Pawlenty would be the nom. Recently he stated repeatedly as a fact that Barney Frank would fill Kerry’s seat as the temp Senator. O’Donnell has an overinflated ego, thinks he’s smarter than everyone despite how he’s wrong more than any pundit on MSNBC.

  • KQµårk 死神 : The best part of my last hospital visit was when I was released. Since I have Medicare they had to ASK me if I wanted to be discharged because of Obamacare. It was so empowering even though I did want to go.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Choice- Nugent and the Congressman who brought him appear to have been relegated to some dark corner by the GOP…and they have given no comments….I think those who pass for wise in the among the GOOPers intervened noting that Nugent was playing into the pro-control advocate game.

  • kesmarn : I guess I’ll call it a day as well. I’ll have to catch the Rubio gulp tomorrow and Randy’s speech — if I’m feeling up to it. Rest well in the knowledge that Romney/Ryan are winding down like old clocks — coo-coo clocks.

  • KQµårk 死神 : O’Donnell is doing the typical try to build faux outrage. The fee-for-service alone system was never sustainable and few single payer systems are based on it now.

  • AdLib : Murph – Is it me or is the “attack Obama” BS in Rubio’s and Paul’s speeches seem so petty and archaic already. Obama’s not running for office again, what’s the point except to obviously pander to the racists and haters already in the minority that votes Repub?

  • choicelady : Murph – any feedback from Nugent? I’ve not looked at the hunting channel to see. I AM serious about that BTW.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Kalie….hope to see you on Friday..the best to you.

  • AdLib : Murph – I think you’re right, Obama and the Dems carry themselves like the pros and winners they are while the Repubs keep beating the lowered expectations of them, showing what losers and how bereft of real ideas and sentiment they are.

  • choicelady : Just dashed out to fix and serve dinner – saw O’Donnell worry over solutions to Medicare out of Simpson Bowles. Anyone have an idea about that>

  • SallyT : Good nite Kalie!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Just read through Rubio’s and Rand’s speeches…lacki ng any real ideas all they have is the attack format leveled at Obama…and base-oriented pitches.

  • kalie : Friday would be good.

  • AdLib : Night kalie, great to see you!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Night Kalie

  • choicelady : Good night kalie, glenn – see you Friday maybe?

  • AdLib : KQ – Love that motto! “No free phones but legal crystal meth! Vote Bagger!” And the Baggers play well with the crystal meth demo.

  • glenn : Thanks all–will chat with you soon!

  • kalie : Im signing off too. Bye all.

  • KQµårk 死神 : TC Glenn

  • kalie : Goodnight Glenn! Its always fun talking to you Planeteers. Take care.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad Lib- There is a reason so many of the dems looked so happy in the halls.

  • SallyT : Had fun, Glenn! See you later around here somewhere!

  • KQµårk 死神 : O’Donnell fee-for-service is outdated and most other single payer systems no longer use that model.

  • AdLib : glenn, great to have you here tonight! Take care!

  • AdLib : How could Obama and Dems look any better? With a speech full of creative, ambitious but realistic proposals and a GOP response that was so barren of ideas, the speaker’s throat got too dry to continue? And bringing up the rear, the ass Rand Paul. Another bump up for Obama and Dems and a humiliating loss for the Repubs.

  • glenn : Okay, ladies and gents. Loved watching the SOTU with you all. Always makes me smile to read all of your thoughts! Good night, and remember Barack Obama is still President and Rubio and Paul are just little snots!

  • kalie : Rand Paul: Lives in his own world. He likes to fire people, just like Mittsy.

  • SallyT : He said that, Kalie.

  • AdLib : Sally – But if Rand Paul sues, he would be using our government’s corrupt infrastructure! What happened to self-dependency? Doing everything for yourself, Rand?

  • KQµårk 死神 : Great slogan for Rand ‘No free phones but a free bag of meth’

  • kalie : Sally he didn’t really say that did he? He is already firing HC.

  • SallyT : Rand Paul is going to sue the President if he uses Executive Order.

  • AdLib : Sally – When Rand Paul speaks, the listeners need a drink of water and a bag of meth to stay awake.

  • kalie : I wont watch Rand Paul after the way he treated HillaryC. He doens’t deserve anyone’s attention.

  • glenn : Jon Stewart taking Cheney apart! Talking about how Cheney was wrong every time he opened his mouth!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Rand Paul is On Line…ok…I will catch it later….

  • AdLib : glenn – It was just a boring rehash of the same Bagger whining about Obama and how we’d all be better off if only the wealthier were better off and corporations ran everything.

  • SallyT : AdLib, he didn’t need a drink of water, tho………

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Has Rand Paul spoken….not on MSNBC

  • glenn : Ad–OMG–Is RandPaul going on and on with the “king” thingy? Why do these people think we believe this shit?

  • AdLib : Rand Paul has another career ahead of him as a human Ambien. Yawn!

  • Sabreen60 : I didn’t listen to Rand. I just couldn’t after listening to Marco. Bobby Jindal may be feeling a little bit better right about now.

  • glenn : Watching Jon Stewart now. He’s going on about Cheney…calling him the “professional frown-maker”. Love Jon Stewart!

  • kesmarn : I was pulled away. Missed Rand. But caught Sabreen’s entrance. What’d you think, Sabreen?

  • MurphTheSurf3 : kalie…I think the work week is a scandal and one of the reasons why there are not real opportunities to work together.

  • kalie : Murph: Going home to fundraise and fundraising in general, is our govts undoing.

  • AdLib : Rand Paul says he opposes our having a king. Wow, bold stand. Oh, he meant Obama, of course, kings are always elected.

  • Sabreen60 : Ahh Nite AB – just as I arrived.

  • KQµårk 死神 : back

  • glenn : Ad and E-Cat–They are talking about so-called Obamaphones. A program that Regan started, and Clinton and Bush expanded. Actually, gwb is the one who expanded it to cell phones. It’s a phone service that the government subsidizes for poor people.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn….they have worked out little tricks so they do not actually adjourn…this is all going to the Supreme Court and it is important because the trick is one the Dems used on Bush.

  • AdLib : Night AB!

  • AlphaBitch : Well OK. I hate this damn netbook. so good night all. Rand’s “hair” looked all Aqua Buddhaey.

  • AdLib : Hey Sabreen! That was one Big Gulp that won’t get a refill.

  • escribacat : LOl Sabreen! I knew that would be the only thing anyone remembers about his rebuttal!!

  • kalie : Well Murph: I have probably already worked more 40 hour weeks than they ever will. Doubt they can catch up and its a ripoff to the American people.

  • AdLib : That’s what Rand Paul just said.

  • Sabreen60 : Hi folks. Great SOTU. Poor little Marco is causing Twitter blow up “with the gulp heard around the world” :D

  • MurphTheSurf3 : S CAT…yep…they go home to fund raise.

  • AdLib : And school vouchers will solve all our education problems because corporations care more about better educations than non-profit government.

  • glenn : Murph–If they were in recess on week a month, then wouldn’t President Obama’s recess appointments stood up in court? They were in “pro-forma” recess, because otherwise, the court couldn’t have overturned his appointments, right?

  • escribacat : Adlib, yeah, I’ve seen the phone thing from the nickel trolls over yonder. I don’t know what it’s about.

  • AdLib : RAND PAUL: “For those who are struggling, we want you to have something more valuable than a free phone.” Huh, isn’t that some Bagger conspiracy theory thing?

  • escribacat : Murph, that’s not even half time!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : kalie- did you know that this was the House Standard Schedule for the last Congress. First session in the week- Tuesday at 7 PM…last session closes Thursday at 11 AM….THEY WORK ONE FULL DAY AND PART OF TWO OTHERS….AND THEY ARE IN RECESS ONE WEEK A MONTH.

  • escribacat : LOL

  • glenn : E-Cat–Or one butthead is enough.

  • AdLib : Lots of whining from Rand Paul over the same BS. He is a whiny little turd.

  • escribacat : I agree Glenn. One rebuttal is enough.

  • AdLib : Rand Paul says he has a plan to balance the budget in 5 years. That would send the economy into the New Depression Obama steered us away from.

  • kalie : Murph: I would hate to start a rumor about his drinking. Gulp.

  • escribacat : If he’s talking now, they’re not showing him on NSNBC

  • glenn : Personally, I don’t think Rand Paul should get to speak. The pubs/tpartiers got one response–that’ s enough.

  • AlphaBitch : Fox signed off w/o Rand! Was he not televised????

  • MurphTheSurf3 : kalie….good one…

  • escribacat : I love that quote “If you’re working 40 hours a week you shouldn’t be in poverty!!” How simple and sensible.

  • AdLib : Here’s a link to the Rand Paul speech in progress: «link»

  • KQµårk 死神 : Night KT pee break for me.

  • escribacat : Does little Randy wear a toupe??

  • AlphaBitch : Rand is fixing his “hair”.

  • kalie : Goodnight KT!!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yeah raising the minimum wage was definitely the biggest surprise for me too.

  • AlphaBitch : I bumped myself off this horrid stupid netbook. Ad – remember I thought it would be Susanna Martinez.

  • escribacat : They haven’t mentioned it

  • glenn : Sally–Yup–that ‘s a middle-class neighborhood, all right! NOT!

  • AdLib : Is MSNBC going to carry the Rand Paul speech?

  • SallyT : Good Night KT!

  • escribacat : Maddow is adorable!

  • kalie : Alpha: Maddow is so much better looking than Greta:)

  • AdLib : Night Killgore! A cold beer will wash away the taste of that Rubio speech.

  • escribacat : Good night KT!

  • escribacat : Great link Sally. Yeah, what a modest little shack with neighbors on social security, UH HUH.

  • AdLib : Murph – That’s what I was thinking. If Rubio was Pres and got a 3 am call with an urgent decision needed, who’s to say he won’t instead get a glass of water or go pee-pee.

  • glenn : E-Cat–Okay, now I know who she is. No, I haven’t seen the movie, but I did see all the hype about it. Sorry!

  • KillgoreTrout : I must say good night Planeteers. I have reached my bullshit tolerance level!

  • escribacat : kalie, great point. Those clowns haven’t done a thing in YEARS

  • SallyT : Here is the shack that Marco is selling in FL «link»

  • kalie : Murph: Im sure he would miss something important bcuz he drinks too much.

  • glenn : Kalie–I agree. I’ve never seen so many people who do nothing talking about how lazy other people are. And, I’ve been around for quite a while!

  • escribacat : AB — Greta used to be even more homely then she got reformatted.

  • KillgoreTrout : The IRS only gets involved when a person refuses to get health insurance. The ACA will make health insurance available for EVERYBODY. God these people are uninformed and deliberately MIS informed!

  • AdLib : AB – Ya hafta admit, Portman would have been a far stronger choice than Ryan turned out to be. My problem in predicting Repub choices is assuming they would do something that might make at least some sense.

  • AlphaBitch : W?e are watching Fox so you don’t have to. Their dialing audience went wild on gun control. Against it of course. God, Greta is homely.

  • escribacat : LOL. Glenn — You haven’t seen Black Swan, eh?

  • kalie : Glenn, Im appalled at how little Congress works. It is wrong to tell us that we should work hard and live meagerly, and then they flaunt their poor work ethic in our faces.

  • glenn : E-Cat–See, we’re even. I don’t know who Natalie Portman is.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Can a man torn by the decision to reach for a gulp of water- trapped between his need and looking needy- be trusted with the nation’s leadership….he just looked so unnatural

  • AdLib : “I’m Marco Rubio. Delivering a laundry list of lies can give ya a mighty big thirst. That’s why when I’m thirsty in the middle of a speech, I clumsily reach for, Arrowhead Water!”

  • escribacat : Oh him! I kept thinking “Natalie????”

  • KillgoreTrout : Absolutely KQ!

  • glenn : Senator Rob Portman, talking on C-Span now.

  • AlphaBitch : EC – he was Rob Portman, AdLibs choice for VP. From Whohio.

  • KQµårk 死神 : KT conservatism use to be anti-radicalism. Now they are the radicals.

  • glenn : Kalie–I know–they want all that “stuff”. They just don’t want to work for it.

  • AdLib : Bobby Jindal reportedly did an air punch after coaching Rubio to go for the gulp of water.

  • escribacat : Glenn who is Portman??

  • KillgoreTrout : SOTU is not about foreign affairs, Mr. McCain!

  • AlphaBitch : AdLib – ZING. You da man.

  • KillgoreTrout : You don’t have the old GOP with the tea party. The older GOP was conservative in nature. Today’s GOP is a bunch of radical right wingers.

  • escribacat : ADlib LOL!!!

  • kalie : Glenn: They want a good govt job and benefits and healthcare and want to take revenge on imaginary people like “welfare queens.”

  • glenn : Portman on now–once again bashing the President. Saying he didn’t see any leadership from the President tonight. He must have watched a different speech than I watched!

  • AdLib : Marco Rubio’s 2016 Presidential Campaign will be sponsored by 7-11, home of the Big Gulp.

  • escribacat : Can’t wait to see the SNL paraody of Rubio’s water grab!!!

  • AlphaBitch : Even michael Steele is dissin Rubio’s water break.

  • escribacat : Ew, we have to listen to curly top now????

  • kalie : I agree with CM when he said Rubio is like a high schooler. Not ready for prime time.

  • kesmarn : Roadkill Toupe Rand … in the warm up spot.

  • glenn : kalie–if government is so bad, then why do they run for office? If small businesses are so great, then why aren’t they out running a small business?

  • KillgoreTrout : No doubt CL.

  • escribacat : Chris Matthews doing a good job of taking Rubio down.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Rubio- no Reaganesque positive, imaginative approach….just an attack on Obama…when Obama did none of that in SOTU…he took the low road and stumbled on down it.

  • AlphaBitch : Tweetie called it a “primitive speech – tinker toys”

  • kalie : Glenn: So many in government now, don’t like govt. They need to leave and go work with their hands.

  • AlphaBitch : I know CL – wink wink.

  • glenn : Basically a speech that any republican could have given in the last four years! Love it!

  • choicelady : AB – impoverished my ass. He comes from a wealthy Cuban family!

  • AlphaBitch : Oh boy oh boy – Rand “what’s that thing on his head?” Paul up next.

  • AlphaBitch : Maddow mentioned water glass…

  • choicelady : KT – we NEED blue collar jobs. Union coops will let that happen. Changes everything about labor costs by removing blood sucking at the top. We CAN do this!

  • escribacat : First thing Rachel brought up….the GULP

  • kesmarn : “Tilt your head to the side, Mari…little more…little tremor in the voice… work it…work it…”

  • MurphTheSurf3 : OK….so much for the reasonable Republican…soo n the unreasonable one….Paul….

  • KillgoreTrout : What I see in you Mr. Rubio, is a class A bullshit artist! Where are your plans? Where are your solution! Oh yeah, fuck you Marco!

  • SallyT : Okay, I looked up his wealth and his yearly income is close to half a million, so, he ain’t living poorly!

  • AdLib : Gulp, indeed!

  • escribacat : AB — Remember how great Castro was. You’re lucky to have his bro!!

  • AdLib : “Magical tax cuts will make everything better!”

  • choicelady : LOL food! If Rubio pre-taped this, what COULD the RW say about Beyonce?????They sent him in. He failed.

  • glenn : If more government can’t make your dreams come true, then what the hell are you doing in government, sonny?

  • AlphaBitch : CL: He gulped and smacked. SO unbecoming. But I guess he never got any training in manners, given his poor impoverished background…..

  • AdLib : “Blah-blah-blah , don’t ask me for details.”

  • escribacat : Adlib — yes, no charisma. They’re trying to find one like Obama but just can’t.

  • glenn : CL–Keep tracking it down. Want to hear more about miners’ cooperative union mines.

  • AdLib : Does this guy look like he just graduated college and is reading a teleprompter or what? Young, phony and no charisma.

  • escribacat : Choice — yes, he paused, moved out of camera range and grabbed some water and gulped it!!!!

  • foodchain : I mean, why didn’t they film this ahead? It’s not like it was a resonse to anything said real time

  • choicelady : AB – I’m not near my TV – Marco GULPED? OMG – his career just went the way of wooden Bobby J.

  • KillgoreTrout : Blue collar work is done by those without higher education!

  • choicelady : Oh sorry glenn – NO public lands are NOT in this equation! Lots of private coal resources, and they CAN be made reasonably safe. MINERS’cooperat ive union mines!!!! (I’m on a roll with this. Just ignore me…)

  • foodchain : wet behind the ears is what I think will be said

  • glenn : Oh–here we go with the “morality” issue!

  • kalie : Hes sweating up a storm. Maybe he is unhealthy.

  • KillgoreTrout : Same as the old GOP messaging!

  • escribacat : That gulp is the only thing folks will be talking about tomorrow.

  • escribacat : hilarious

  • foodchain : hahaha, grab for water too funny

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Rubio has managed to wipe sweat from his lip, his ear, his chin and he keeps touching his face in such odd ways….Taking a drink from a bottle of water….Jindal must have been his coach….

  • AlphaBitch : EPIC fail, Marco. No gulping.

  • KillgoreTrout : Gee, is this the new GOP messaging?

  • SallyT : So, sonny, your mom doesn’t have as good a health plan as you.

  • escribacat : Ooops. Had to grab a drink hehehehe

  • kalie : Well KT, he did speak about blue collar training too.

  • choicelady : AB – if Rubio can defend invasive wands for women, WE can insist on tampon for HIS mouth.

  • glenn : CL–Thanks for the info. Still not sure how I feel about trying to mine coal, no matter how clean it is, on public lands.

  • KillgoreTrout : Oh, the sob story of a cancer stricken mother.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : I think these responses generally hurt the opposing party- they cannot really prepare for them in a way that is a legitimate response so they have to stand on their party platforms and insert a few snippets from SOTU

  • KillgoreTrout : kalie, that’s funny, because the poor and working class pubs think higher education is a commie plot!

  • foodchain : Just muted Rubio. Lie after lie? What is the point? What is their theory at this point?

  • choicelady : glenn – fracking is for gas only. Raping and pillaging mountains is for SOME types of coal. NEW development – coal process that is NOT gas producing. I’m traking it down. Was in the columbus OH paper a couple of days ago. Mining IS important, does not HAVE to be strip mining. So if we can do a REAL clean coal – wow.

  • escribacat : LOL

  • AlphaBitch : Tampon mouth EC?

  • escribacat : Rubio’s getting cotton mouth.

  • kalie : KT:The free college ed is red meat to his base.

  • KillgoreTrout : Pretty damn good kalie!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : KQ- Sullivan is gushing….good.

  • KillgoreTrout : The sad part is that red state yahoos, who are poor and middle class will buy into this shit! They will continually side against their own interests. Poor people supporting the rich that constantly shits on them!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Rubio…this is a campaign speech….not effective in convincing anyone who is not already on his side.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Murph the doom and gloom route after Obama’s speech just sounds small.

  • AlphaBitch : KQ: the reason Ann Richards won over Claytie Williams is that he refused to shake her hand at the debate. Pissed off Texans so bad they voted for a woman DEMOCRAT.

  • kalie : KT: We need a Common Good Pac! And need to put “us” back in the US. Hows that?

  • glenn : Someone please tell me how reducing the deficit creates jobs. And, now we’re going to frack for coal on federal lands?

  • escribacat : KQ — thanks for posting that. I was really moved to tears at that same moment that he mentions.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Rubio is moaning, groaning, blaming and gaming….indefe nsible economic theory.

  • AlphaBitch : Ironic his tie matches Obamas.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Sullivan “10.12 pm. Now we’re really into Reagan territory. The 102 year-old is pretty damn amazing. And, yes, it is a national scandal that she had to wait six hours to vote. Then a heroic cop. “That’s just the way we’re made.” I have to say that even to these jaundiced ears, that peroration moved me. The passion, the reason, the sincerity: this was an invigorated president, trying to shift the mood away from zero-sum partisanship to non-zero-sum citizenship. It’s what we always hoped from him, and I think it places the Republicans in a horrible bind. Are they going to prevent a vote on guns? Are they going to refuse Bowles-Simpson Medicare reform? Are they willing to force a sequester rather than cooperate with this popular president? Does the Speaker not appreciate a 102 year-old getting to vote? Why did he stay seated? I have a feeling that moment will strike people.”

  • choicelady : KQ – she defended her taking social safety net because she wasn’t rich. But NO ONE ELSE COULD. Just her. We did it all for YOU, Ayn.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Wow I’ve never heard Andrew Sullivan so positive about a big Obama speech.

  • SallyT : Oh, give me a break, you have more than one house!

  • KillgoreTrout : Rubio, cut the bullshit!

  • glenn : Oh…poor republicans! They are such victims! The President is always picking on them! What BS!

  • KillgoreTrout : CL, she was one warped individual.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Yeah Rube…those companies that are doing very well being “forced” to lay off workers or reduce the hours of others so they did not have to contribute to health benefits….such nonsense

  • choicelady : KQ – EXACTLY – we have just turned the corner on almost 40 years of “greed is good” to restoring a sense of all of us, together, and all of us benefitting.

  • choicelady : KT – Rand’s hypocrisy was legion.

  • glenn : “Being forced to lay people off!” What happened to “personal responsibility” ? Why aren’t these businesses taking responsibility for laying these people off?

  • AlphaBitch : “Modern life” = Republicans.

  • choicelady : kalie – Chris says the Prez is lying and the border security is NOT his issue it’s getting visas etc. for people coming in. I don’t think he opposed that, but I don’t like he said the president wasn’t being truthful. Tweetie can be a pain sometimes.

  • escribacat : he’s not as bad as Jindal though

  • KQµårk 死神 : Exactly KT.

  • KillgoreTrout : Nothing new here!

  • escribacat : Murph yes it’s all very familiar

  • KillgoreTrout : Republicans always forget or ignore the part of our founders when they talked about “for the common welfare.”

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Rubio has managed to misrepresent/lie on three topics in 2 minutes….it is all the the GOP mythology….

  • kalie : We dont need no stinking rules, thats more govt. Lets have a free for all and just HOPE everyone does the right thing…..

  • AlphaBitch : Marco’s hairline looks good tonight. He will be bald or plugged by 2016.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Amen to that Sally. You can do all the right things and one illness can derail your whole life. At least with Obamacare it will make that much much tougher. If I didn’t get Medicare with my SSDI I would again be at ground zero instead of buying a home.

  • SallyT : So far, I ain’t impressed.

  • glenn : Oops–I’m on C-Span 2! My bad!

  • KillgoreTrout : C-Span!

  • choicelady : glenn – That’s code for “Exceptionalism ” is that America is a dominionist Christian nation. Anyone calls out the president on that – that’s what it is all about.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : KT….how rude and crude of you….and how true and blue….waders are on…

  • glenn : KT–What channel are you watching?

  • AlphaBitch : Who gives a shit about your folks, Marco? Not me.

  • escribacat : KT — no kidding. He’s already brought it up!!

  • KillgoreTrout : OK Planeteers. Put on your hip waders. The shit is about to get deep! Here comes the anti abortion bullshit!

  • AdLib : Ayn Rand was a greedy hypocrite. She gladly took entitlements from a society she attacked for providing entitlements. A more damaged and vindictive human being would be hard to find.

  • SallyT : KQ, that showed her that you just don’t know how it will turn out no matter how hard you try. Someday you may need help.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Rubio is up….I hope he is soon down.

  • AlphaBitch : Marco.

  • glenn : Some stupid R from Florida (of course), saying how President Obama doesn’t know what American “exceptionalism ” is. What a dork!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yup AB Evolve or Dissolve.

  • KillgoreTrout : Kudos KQ! You are absolutely correct. You can’t cling to old ideas in a changing world!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Sally she sold those rights when she tried to take ‘personal responsibility’ and pay for her own healthcare.

  • AlphaBitch : Evolve or go extinct, KQ. It is a law of nature.

  • KillgoreTrout : Sally, I’m sure they were mostly McCarthyists!

  • KQµårk 死神 : KT that’s why so called ‘conservatism’ is fatally flawed. It actually goes against the rules of nature not to progress.

  • SallyT : But, I saw a movie on her life, and she was something else for sure, however, she had a large following while she was alive.

  • KillgoreTrout : So true Sally. Even when it is shit like Rand produced!

  • SallyT : well, that is how it usually happens, isn’t KT.

  • KillgoreTrout : Sally much of her popularity came after she died.

  • SallyT : She did, KQ? I thought she got royalties on those books?

  • KQµårk 死神 : kes that sounds right I was pleasantly surprised with the president’s new ideas.

  • KillgoreTrout : The height of irony, eh KQ? She got what she deserved, maybe more than she deserved!

  • kalie : KQ: Ayn Rand shouldn’t have been allowed to collect SS and MEdicare.

  • KQµårk 死神 : KT my favorite part with Rand is she died penniless on Medicare and Social Security.

  • glenn : I’m watching C-Span and they’re interviewing Dems, not pubs. Go C-Span!

  • kalie : So the real question is, will the Dems be able to get anything done this year?

  • KillgoreTrout : Mr. President is no longer constrained by future elections, for the office.

  • AdLib : glenn – Yep, we’re here for the long haul, to see all the futile GOP rebuttals.

  • KQµårk 死神 : AdLib I truly believe Obama’s presidency with be the inflection point we desperately needed to move from the Reagan era of greed is good to a progressive era.

  • KillgoreTrout : Ad, the really hypocritical part of Rand’s beliefs is the fact that she, herself was a Russian immigrant.

  • kesmarn : Yes, the Prez who gave this speech seems so different from the one who faced off against Romney in the first debate. Like night and day.

  • glenn : KQ–You know the pub/tpartier response will be that President Obama is a “tyrant”.

  • escribacat : Murphy — I agree completely. I sense a feeling of freedom in him that wasn’t present during the last time.

  • AdLib : Citizenship is so important to the health of a society and that is plainly one area where the GOP is so empty. They’re the party of Ayn Rand who hated the concept of citizenship and people working together for the greater good.

  • kalie : Chris and Rachel will have to catch me up on the details;)

  • KillgoreTrout : kalie, that is the really sad part, but her soul is untouched.

  • escribacat : KQ — me too.

  • kesmarn : The PBS analysts are saying there were almost a dozen new initiatives presented in this speech. Not a “plan to rest on my laurels from now on” speech.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D- I-N-G I had to stop commenting because I got so caught up in it. Beautifully crafted and wall to wall great ideas with just the right amount of inspiration and aspiration. My President, Our President continues to impress me.

  • KQµårk 死神 : I was especially happy with the way he talked about climate change so much and threatened congress to take action on their own if they want to obstruct.

  • glenn : AdLib–Are we sticking around for the rebuttals? All 22 of them? (At least it seems as though the pubs want that many.)

  • AlphaBitch : Bravo, Mr. President. Encore! And a vote!

  • escribacat : He’s the brightest ray of hope our nation has had for many many years

  • SallyT : Well, I think that just about covers it!

  • glenn : Way to go, Mr. President! So proud I cast my vote for you!

  • escribacat : What a great speech.

  • foodchain : Seeing the Gabby Giffords part. Deserve a Vote! Don’t get off that. Make those perps vote no on record

  • kalie : Choice: We do hear too much bad news these days. And im betting many of us are newsies.

  • kesmarn : Well, well done! Well done, Sir!

  • glenn : Sally–All the more reason to stand for her! Think of what that woman must have endured during her lifetime!

  • escribacat : WOW… I agree KQ

  • choicelady : Wooo HOOOOOO Mr. President!!!

  • SallyT : Glenn, Boner is an ASS!

  • choicelady : kalie – I know Emily Lyons the nurse Eric Rudolph blew up. It’s just the same. She cannot live the life she had. But in both cases they have found meaning and have the love of their husbands. That’s a lot.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Best SOTU speech in five years IMHO

  • SallyT : Glenn, because she was a black 102 yr old woman.

  • kalie : Gabby is a hero but will not live the life she should have.

  • glenn : Geez, boner can’t even stand for a 102-year-old woman? The man has no respect for anyone!

  • KQµårk 死神 : How can you call it democracy when you let a 102 year old take hours to vote.

  • choicelady : Nugent should NOT be shown. He’s made a ‘true threat’ against the president and does not deserve attention for it.

  • kesmarn : Desilline is pretty darn cute.

  • escribacat : Incredibly moving

  • SallyT : Bless her HEART!!!

  • AlphaBitch : Voting rights and gun control. YES

  • choicelady : AdLib – awww that’s the ONLY thing Nugent’s ever done remotely good. OK – definte “good”…

  • KillgoreTrout : Sally, not that I’ve seen!

  • glenn : KT–What a role model both she and her husband, Mark, are! True Americans we can all be proud of!

  • kalie : KES: Its scary. Something has to be done.

  • AdLib : Can we agree that any gun control legislation include taking away Nugent’s gold record for “Cat Scratch Fever”?

  • choicelady : kalie – I think it’s always been every day, but we don’t hear about it so much until now. The death rate is horrific.

  • KillgoreTrout : Nugent will mouth off in the rebuttals!

  • SallyT : Have they even shown the jackass, KT?

  • kesmarn : “We were never sent here to be perfect but to do the best we can.”

  • KillgoreTrout : You are absolutely right Sally!

  • kalie : Choice, its every day now at some school or college or in a park.

  • KillgoreTrout : I just love Gabby!

  • foodchain : crap, I’m behind you guys

  • KQµårk 死神 : Wow this is classic Obama.

  • kesmarn : Oh, kalie, I can’t imagine what it must be like when your child is on the campus and that happens!

  • glenn : You tell ’em, Mr. President! They deserve a vote! Get Congress off their lazy asses! Oops, my language is detoriating!

  • SallyT : Nugent isn’t going to do anything. He is just a loud mouth!

  • choicelady : Oh kalie – I’m so sorry for your fear! I’m awfully glad it’s OK. I’m watching those parent -crying for their pain.

  • escribacat : Gabby can’t even clap

  • KillgoreTrout : Oh god, that is so sad. What will it take for these gun nuts to see what is really going on in this country!

  • KQµårk 死神 : ‘They deserve a vote’!

  • foodchain : Kalie, I’m an IL member, no subs of chicago

  • kalie : I got a call today. Gunman at Illinois State. Son sitting in business class. All ok now, they caught him.

  • KillgoreTrout : kes, he said he wouldn’t come armed. But who knows with such a lunatic.

  • glenn : Nugent is probably screaming about President Obama taking away his fucking second amendment rights! Has anybody seen a shot (no pun intended) of him?

  • foodchain : oh good, had a phone call. You can’t trust that jerk

  • choicelady : KT – I’ll settle for Secret Service surrounding Nugent.

  • kesmarn : D’you suppose he tried to come in carrying openly, KT?

  • KillgoreTrout : FC, not yet! LOL

  • KQµårk 死神 : Amen to that.

  • foodchain : KT did nugent do anything?

  • KillgoreTrout : I hope Nugent is in a straight jacket now!

  • foodchain : Glenn, cool to see smart, strong and beautiful women. All of us are terrific but those two? MMMMmmmm

  • glenn : CL–I’m glad to hear they are friends. You just can’t fake the kind of affection they seem to have for each other.

  • choicelady : escat – that IS the first step indeed!

  • KillgoreTrout : Oh hell yeah. Betraying our Ideals (which republicans always tout) is exactly what happens all too often.

  • kesmarn : I wish there were a way to address gerrymandering. But the GOP would squawk States’ Rights!

  • escribacat : Step 1 — get rid of Rick Scott.

  • kalie : Go BO, you are no longer running for President and need to be tough.

  • choicelady : glenn – I saw them interviewed and they SAID they had become friends. THAT is wonderful!

  • kesmarn : Voting rights! Yes!

  • choicelady : Call it out, PBO!!! Right to VOTE!

  • kalie : KT: Its very sad and wrong.

  • glenn : I love seeing Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden together! They are both such strong women, and they seem to be very good friends!

  • KillgoreTrout : kalie, where is the bravery in beating a person who has only a fraction of strength or size. I cannot fully express how little I think of a man who would do that.

  • escribacat : Tbanks for the link Sally. Want to read that

  • choicelady : That the Congress cuts VETERANS is despicable. That money needs to be released NOW.

  • kesmarn : The Prez can still hold out a vision of hope — even after all he and we have been through. That’s leadership.

  • choicelady : OK on benefits to ALL!

  • SallyT : A good article on Native American Women «link»

  • KQµårk 死神 : WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!! !

  • AlphaBitch : Thanks KT. her name was Cheryl and she was a winner.

  • KQµårk 死神 : AdLib this is really Obama being Obama. Progressive in principle but pragmatic in practice.

  • choicelady : Obama to MidEast? GOP will call it capitulation, apology tour again. Asshats all.

  • kalie : AB: Saw some documentary on TV about a Reservation that seems to have gone out of control. Young girls being raped and abused with no recourse.

  • glenn : KT–Agree with your definition of a coward!

  • KillgoreTrout : That’s such a tragedy AB. I don’t nationality is a dependent factor in wife beating. Men of all races and nationality do it. I hate all of them.

  • AlphaBitch : Yep Frennie in prison in OR now. She’s still dead, unfortunately.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yeah AdLib I’m even a bit surprised at the breath and depth of the president’s proposals.

  • AlphaBitch : CL; oooohh!! That gives it a perspective I had missed.

  • kesmarn : Was he ever caught/prosecute d, Frennie?

  • glenn : AB–it’s not necessarily husbands of the Native American women. It’s non-Native American men, no matter who they are, raping Native American women.

  • foodchain : I’d like to call it a Zoo but we need a more clever circa 1950 name

  • AdLib : This is quite an amazingly wide-ranging speech with real world, doable proposals, not the fantasy wish list or BS propaganda of so many before him. Well done Obama!

  • AlphaBitch : KT had a friend (woman) who was beaten to death by her 1/6 native am husband who went and hid on a reservation until he got bored. I’ve seen it all.

  • foodchain : I

  • choicelady : AB – lots of white rapists on reservations are casino customers. NOT married to the women they rape.

  • kesmarn : Sounds like a Twilight Zone episode: “dinosaurs behind glass”

  • KQµårk 死神 : I know I way over simplified it so I appreciate the clarification.

  • AdLib : kalie – Walsh should get his citizenship reduced.

  • KillgoreTrout : Any man who beats on a woman, is not a man, except for a pair of testicles. Cowards all.

  • AdLib : FC – ;-)

  • kalie : Ad Lib: Since Walsh lost his job, he is trying to get his child support reduced.

  • glenn : AdLib–And now Joe ‘you lie’ Walsh says he can’t “afford” child support because he lost his job “through no fault of his own”.

  • AlphaBitch : But dont thise non native Husbands live on the res with their wives?

  • foodchain : Orangeatanes and rare white small gorillas

  • choicelady : glenn – yeah, white guys are too good for indigenous peoples’ courts. And justice.

  • AdLib : FC – Add Boehner too behind glass, “The Incredible Human Orange! Watch him squeeze tears out of himself!”

  • KillgoreTrout : Obama has obviously done a great deal of research before this speech. I have no doubt he also used his experience to arrive at these great ideas.

  • glenn : AB–There probably are Native American men who abuse their wives, but the VAWA was about non-Native American men who rape Native American women being tried in a Native American court.

  • choicelady : KT – that’s why the Promise Keepers have made such a play on reservations – to introduce the very phony Xtian notion that beating your wife is ‘manly’ and ‘Biblical’. NEITHER is accurate!

  • foodchain : could we put Grassley and McCain somewhere together behind glass and charge admission?

  • AdLib : kalie – Is there any question how much Repub politicians in general don’t like women, are afraid of them and want to dominate them? Heck, they got Joe Walsh elected and he owed $100k in child support to his ex-wife.

  • KillgoreTrout : Any man who beats his wife is a coward and a very stupid person.

  • AlphaBitch : Here’s the deal: you live on the res, you abide by their rules. Period. move if you don’t like it – and your wife will have more access to resources to help her get away from you.

  • choicelady : KQ – that “rule of thumb” is not in US law. It’s mostly a myth, but beating your wife was OUTLAWED in Puritan America right from the git go. Only the Victorians thought they’d found something Biblical. It’s not.

  • kesmarn : AdLib, that wife beaters’ Super PAC was supported by money taken from the ladies’ Taco Bell wages.

  • kalie : I really think what will make the Native Americans healthier is to get off the reservation.

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey kalie! I guess it depends on where you live, but I agree. Nine bucks an hour is at best, just enough to survive on, let alone a chance to enjoy life.

  • glenn : Sally–The repubs/tpartiers don’t want Native American women to have the right to have their trials “by their peers”.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yup rule of thumb Glenn as long as the stick is not wider than your thumb you can beat your wife.

  • foodchain : war over = money in the coffers; not $$ in coffins

  • AdLib : Kes – “Wife Beaters For Romney” had their own SuperPac.

  • kesmarn : c’lady, I think they would qualify as “deserving a beating” when they declined to have babies every 10 months….

  • kalie : Ad Lib: So the GOP Demo are wife beaters, huh. Cantor looks like he beats his wife.

  • choicelady : glenn – maybe in the OT, not the New Testament.

  • AdLib : CL – Boehner needs a spine transplant.

  • foodchain : +

  • glenn : CL–Well of course extreme Christian men can beat their wives. The Bible tells them so. At least, according to their Bible.

  • kesmarn : The Wife Beater Caucus.

  • choicelady : kes – That’s right, darlin’. But define “deserve”…

  • escribacat : KT YES

  • KillgoreTrout : Get them home Mr. President. They’ve been there for far too long as it is!

  • AdLib : CL – Those who physically abuse women are a GOP demo, they want to hold onto all that they can.

  • foodchain : Colic! Well some of the SOBs have gout! from over abundance

  • choicelady : AdLib – speaking of probes…does Boehner need a colonoscopy?

  • kesmarn : c’lady, I thought Christian wives only got a beating when they really deserved it…?

  • SallyT : Glenn, right because Native American women are included and because more of them are raped on the reservations by white men and they get away with it.

  • KillgoreTrout : Uh Oh! No more neo-con fear mongering?

  • kalie : Kilgore my son makes 9$/hr at the YMCA lifeguarding. Its not a living wage.

  • foodchain : Kalie, It’s just too sad that they are so unseeing

  • escribacat : Adlib LOL

  • choicelady : glenn – they opposed VAWA seriously because extreme Christian men are huge abusers, and they cannot let that happen to them. Being held responsible for beating the crap our of your wife.

  • KQµårk 死神 : GOP rebuttal NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Tax cuts for rich, drill baby drill, deregulate, keep ridiculous pentagon spending

  • AdLib : I’ve seen that look on Boehner’s face on babies before, it’s colic.

  • foodchain : How can those awful faces be attached to real people

  • escribacat : Boner really is seriously creepy.

  • kalie : Seriously, how can anyone not like the native american women. The mothers of our country!!

  • glenn : Sally–I thought they were against it because Native Americans would have the right to try rapists of Native American women in tribal courts, rather than trying them in U.S. courts.

  • kesmarn : Sally, he’s ready for a jug of Merlot and a cigarette.

  • foodchain : Ally, I hope boehner is crying, I hope he’s weeping

  • KillgoreTrout : Nine bucks an hour is just barely enough for a single person. I see no reason why that nine bucks an hour should be questioned at all.

  • AdLib : Paul Ryan got a close up on paying people who work full time enough not to be in poverty and just frowned. Ouch, I can hear his approval numbers falling.

  • choicelady : kes – a sneeze wasn’t quite the bodily function I was thinking about…

  • foodchain : $9 or $$$$$$$$ bonuses?

  • SallyT : I think Boner is crying!

  • kesmarn : They make $9 in the time it takes them to sneeze.

  • choicelady : GOP embrace Reaganomics. Ellen Goodman asked in 1982 – why do the rich need incentives but the poor need desperation? Obama says incentives work for everyone.

  • escribacat : Look at those nasty GOPers frowning about the idea that someone should make $9 an hour

  • glenn : So that it finally becomes a wage you can live on! What a novel idea!

  • AdLib : The Repubs wanted to end the minimum wage. Rand Paul probably won’t address it in his rebuttal. Just tax breaks for tin foil.

  • kesmarn : $9/hr. doesn’t sound like much, but it would be huge. Oh, the Tbaggers and gonna cry about that one.

  • choicelady : Awww RIGHT on minimum wage act. In CA though, to live NOT in poverty, you have to have $11-12/hour even in our depressed economy. But this is GREAT.

  • SallyT : The Repugs are against VAWA because of the Native American women are included.

  • AlphaBitch : Oh smack! minimum wage. ouch, pubs

  • kalie : A few Illinois state schools are 25K/yr in state.

  • kesmarn : Good question, glenn.

  • escribacat : YEAH — raise the minimum wage!!!!!

  • glenn : Kes–Saw that post. What does the republican party deliver?

  • foodchain : vaginal probes are VAW

  • choicelady : Rubio and the other 21 are about to be toast I think.

  • kesmarn : c’lady, we Buckeyes have always been kinda soshulist.

  • SallyT : LOL

  • KQµårk 死神 : It’s 100% just an anti-Obama vote.

  • KillgoreTrout : Sally, at least he didn’t say “Git Er Done.”

  • kalie : Rubio voted against VAWA. Bad,Bad, Bad.

  • KQµårk 死神 : How could you possibly vote against VAWA.

  • kesmarn : glenn, I posted a quote by FOX’s Ailes today on immigration about “If I risked my life jumping over that wall, I want to win. And the Republican party can deliver that!” What a different spin – post-election.

  • escribacat : kalie –my MFA has almost doubled in price in 15 years

  • AdLib : Heh, O forced Repubs to their feet on immigration bill! That will teach them for daydreaming about robbing elderly people and taking lollipops from babies.

  • choicelady : kes – BEST work on coops in America is in OHIO. Kent state’s Ohio Employee Ownership Center (www.oeockent.ed u) is GREAT as a national leader. LOTS of work in Cleveland, Cincinatti, etc. OHIO is the LEADER in economic alternatives!

  • AlphaBitch : VAWA

  • SallyT : Let’s get it done. Let’s get it done!

  • glenn : Anybody keeping track of how many times the President has said, “Let’s get it done!”

  • kalie : Escriba: College costs are terrible. I have two in at same time.

  • foodchain : escribacat, too true and with no regrets

  • KQµårk 死神 : The cheers are very interesting you can literally hear the schism in the GOP.

  • glenn : KT–We can’t have that “critical thinking thingy” going on, according to the GOP!

  • escribacat : Glenn GOPers aren’t really good for doing much except invading othr countries

  • AdLib : The Repubs have no ideas, they couldn’t sustain a speech like this with reality, it would have to be fantasy and lies.

  • foodchain : How SNL if Rubio saunters into the foyer…..

  • choicelady : KT – you are spot on. Educated people tend to question authority. They want to be that authority. So….

  • glenn : Look at all of those lazy ass pubs/tpartiers sitting on their lazy asses about immigration reform!

  • KillgoreTrout : No doubt glenn! They also do not want an educated base.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yeah AdLib another forward thinking move by Obama. He is bursting with ideas in this SOTU.

  • choicelady : kalie – no one thinks Rubio is ready to ride w/o training wheels!

  • AdLib : kalie – I hear Rubio was taking training for his speech from Bobby Jindal. Not really!

  • kesmarn : c’lady that sounds exciting!

  • foodchain : Buzzfeed editor did an interviewwith Rubio and said he thought it was good until he looked at his notes and realized he had NOTHING

  • escribacat : Sounds interesting CL

  • AlphaBitch : AND GIVE THEM CITIZENSHIP

  • glenn : KT–The GOP motto is: we broke it, we want you to fix it, but we’ll do everything in our power to stop you from fixing it.

  • choicelady : I agree about educating for the higher skill demands BUT we need entry level jobs and those can be sustained with union coops, ESOPs, etc. Only 20% of jobs required a degree, and we have 30% w college – mismatches. And we have a growin underclass that need alternatives. I think I’ve found them, and I’m getting significant support from a community bank founded by a billionair hedge fund guy. I will keepyou posted!

  • SallyT : FC, that is it, most of all the interest is paid. It is at 5% but way more goes to principle now. It isn’t much of a tax write off anymore, tho.

  • AdLib : College Score Card – The most bang for your educational buck. Nice!

  • foodchain : notice how Arne Duncan was with him today?

  • kalie : Ad Lib, too funny. Im not sure Rubio is ready for prime time.

  • KillgoreTrout : Those that know the least, obey the best.” GOP motto!

  • escribacat : Right on. I don’t get why college is so dang expesnive nowadays — except for govt loans

  • KQµårk 死神 : There goes Obama the socialist again.

  • AlphaBitch : Kes LOL

  • AdLib : REPUB KID: “Hey Dad, how come he doesn’t sound like a socialist who hates America?”

  • kesmarn : AB, someone has to chaperone them.

  • foodchain : Sally, youv’e paid most of the interest so why start a whole new set?

  • KQµårk 死神 : One of the good parts about the home we are buying is that it’s part of a program where the current owners won’t have to foreclose.

  • kesmarn : Are we a’lookin’ ta soshulist Europe for ways ta fix are skools?? Dagnabbit!

  • glenn : AdLib–good one! I forgot all good things come from kochs!

  • AlphaBitch : Shumer is sitting between the two datey boys McCain and Ms. lindsey

  • SallyT : Like I said, CL, I only got 6 more years to go, I ain’t changing now.

  • kalie : Oh the Germans. Worked with some and they thought our working conditions were horrible, not enough windows in our office.

  • glenn : We need to have more tech schools and more apprenticeships!

  • foodchain : rich first, rich first! What can they say tomorrow I wonder

  • AdLib : Marco Rubio will correct the many mistakes of Obama’s speech by explaining that better lives, educations, jobs, etc. don’t come from plans or programs, they come from the Koch Brothers paying less taxes, everyone knows that!

  • choicelady : Sally – yes, but they are desperate for FEES, so don’t give them any!

  • foodchain : Hey Kalie, home work is fun; we rehabed–broke and then rehabed an older home

  • glenn : Wow! Can’t believe he mentioned GA and education in the same sentence!

  • choicelady : Hey – teen pregnancy is going WAY DOWN now we don’t have sucky “abstinence only” sex ed!

  • SallyT : I have been with them CL for 24 years now on our house.

  • AdLib : Yes! The lower mortgage rate bill would put billions into the economy!

  • kesmarn : “high quality” preschool…with quality being the emphasis. Go, Mr. Prez!

  • foodchain : Oooh, vote, send me a bill

  • glenn : KQ–Ain’t that the truth?

  • KillgoreTrout : The GOP does not want better education, especially minorities.

  • foodchain : Kes, if he doesn’t he sure is going to have a big crease between his brows–not an ax–a worry line seems to get deeper

  • choicelady : Sally – I’d ignore BofA. They’re pretty sleezy.

  • KQµårk 死神 : I can’t keep track Glenn my head is spinning the GOP attacks Obama from every angle.

  • choicelady : kalie – you ROCK!!! That’s impressive!

  • kesmarn : kalie, that’s impressive!

  • SallyT : BoA sent me a letter asking me if I wanted to refinance. I have only 6 years left on our loan.

  • kalie : I did do a Habitat for Humanity project once where I had to put together heating ducts underneath a house.

  • glenn : KQ–was that before or after President Obama’s inaugural address that was too “progressive”? :)

  • kesmarn : Boehner has a secret man crush on the Prez. You can tell.

  • KillgoreTrout : Shouldn’t houses cost less?

  • choicelady : Hi kalie!

  • foodchain : come on America!! Get the slow boys out of the way

  • AdLib : Hey Kalie!

  • choicelady : food – spend, spend, spend, GROW GROW GROW!!!

  • KQµårk 死神 : glenn just going back to the end of the 2012 campaign when the GOP said Obama had no agenda for his second term.

  • foodchain : I like fix it first

  • kesmarn : kalie! Hey, ready to do a little riveting?

  • choicelady : Obama is building the Australian model of infrastructre I think it is. I’ve read some about it – it seems to work.

  • foodchain : KQ and he killed a few in those on the aircraft carrier

  • AdLib : Fix It First! Another clever project and title!

  • kalie : Hi All. I just don’t think im up to working on bridges, you?

  • glenn : KQuark–republic ans/tpartiers never said President Obama didn’t have a “forward-lookin g agenda”. They have just said they don’t like it! Over and over and over again ad nauseum!

  • kesmarn : What was that about the ribbon cuttings? Even Boehner cracked up.

  • AlphaBitch : CL: i like that – a 2% voice a teeny tiny teensy little voice like their teeny tiny teensy little….brains ?

  • KQµårk 死神 : Food I like CRASH for McCain since he crashed five planes.

  • SallyT : Space age down here on earth!

  • choicelady : Siemans is here, too! KQ – it means we’re related!

  • foodchain : and how will the GOP say this is Leftist, socialistic or sepnd, spend, spend?

  • kesmarn : Krugman calls it the “Caucus of Ignorance.” The GOP RW.

  • escribacat : Kes — you’re right. Bursting with ideas — and all good ones

  • KillgoreTrout : FC, it’s a long wooden pole with a spearhead. Used in the 16 and 1700s in Europe.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Who says Obama doesn’t have a forward thinking agenda.

  • choicelady : Sally – if the GOP tie themselves to Dominionist Christians and 2% of science on climate change, they deserve to be no more than 2% of Congress.

  • foodchain : I like petard for McCain

  • AdLib : Energy Security Trust! Yes!

  • kesmarn : He’s just bursting with ideas. Unlike the GOP with just bursts with no.

  • escribacat : Choice — it’s pretty shocking.

  • foodchain : looking up petard :-)

  • choicelady : es – I’ve seen a clip of “disappearing ice” and it’s scary as hell.

  • glenn : Whoa! Now, he’s threatening them with leadership! He’s going to lead; Congress can follow or STFU!

  • escribacat : Anyone else seen “Chasing Ice?” HIGHLY recommended. Time lapse photography of disappearing glaciers

  • foodchain : McCain ? I just can’t say my wishes for him

  • choicelady : Hoist McCain on the petard of his once being sensible!

  • KillgoreTrout : I do too.

  • escribacat : KT, I think he’s mentally ill.

  • foodchain : going to be a lot of fun to watch Rubio and any science issue

  • SallyT : McCain face is RED!

  • KillgoreTrout : Absolutely e’cat. Nugent has no credibility, at all, as a problem solver. He is barely capable of behaving like a human being.

  • SallyT : Science? Repugs don’t know science.

  • kesmarn : That too, yes, AdLib!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Time for the baggers heads’ to explode.

  • AdLib : Kes – And the difference between efficient government and effin’ government.

  • glenn : Foodchain–We can make it happen–a dem congress in 2014–if we all get out and vote! We made it happen in this last election, we can do it again!

  • foodchain : oop

  • foodchain : Anyone thinking we might have a dem congress in 2014 was the first part of my sentence

  • escribacat : If GOPers keep using “spokespersons ” like Ted Nugent, they’re going to disappear

  • escribacat : food I HOPE SO

  • foodchain : Imagine that

  • foodchain : anyone thinking we might have a dem congress in 2014>

  • kesmarn : KQ, I have a friend who said the GOP needs to learn the difference between government efficacy as opposed to efficiency.

  • glenn : Yes, yes, yes! We need to make those investments! He’s channelling JFK now!

  • escribacat : wow

  • AdLib : Very inspiring about the future and if only we had a Dem Congress, it could be very doable.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Cat I even saw them do 3D printing with foodstuff. It was pretty kewl.

  • kesmarn : Isn’t it e’cat? They can make things like outer ears and mandibles for medical use.

  • glenn : Yea! Government-busin ess partnerships! Been saying that for years! Not government giveaways in tax breaks for businesses. A real partnership!

  • foodchain : yeah, that 3d stuff is amazing except when it comes to guns

  • KQµårk 死神 : Exactly CL the way to look at government is not the size. It’s about making it efficient and just as big as it needs to be. To think you can have ‘small’ government with such a big country is just ridiculous.

  • escribacat : I saw an exhibit of that 3D printing stuff -+- amazing

  • AdLib : And the GOP rebuttal will be, “On the other hand, there’s a lot to whine about!”

  • foodchain : another hero in the Obama box, last yr it was Jobs widow

  • choicelady : Whoo hoo – perfect opportunity for UNION COOPS!!!! Go manufacturers, go!

  • kesmarn : CEO of Apple is sitting there!

  • escribacat : Bringing jobs back !!! YEA!

  • foodchain : Oh damn, Obama is killing all the am GOP lies

  • glenn : Invests in broad-based growth! Yea! Investing in the people of the United States of America!

  • choicelady : NICE LINE – smarter government!

  • kesmarn : Right, food. They’re looking bummed out.

  • escribacat : I don’t know why Boner is still sitting there. Talk about ineffectual.

  • kesmarn : Joe chuckles!

  • foodchain : poor Boner, poor Cantor. What unhappy men

  • KillgoreTrout : When GOPers have the presidency, the deficit is never a real concern with them.

  • AlphaBitch : Surgery ecat? Or dilated?

  • glenn : KQuark–I hope the word Obamacare is a rope with an anchor on it for the pubs!

  • choicelady : KQ – I was so proud of him taking up the term “Obamacare”. He should be proud! It’s REALLY good, and I know this policy and how it’s NOT Romneycare which positively SUCKS.

  • KQµårk 死神 : ‘deficit reduction alone is not an economic plan’ AMEN!

  • glenn : Deficit reduction alone is not an economic plan! Finally!

  • escribacat : AB — Joe just put one some glasses I’ve never seen before. Now they’re gone

  • kesmarn : He almost laughs when he talks about “manufactured crises.”

  • KillgoreTrout : No, he probably won’t. But it sure needs to be addressed.

  • AlphaBitch : What’s with Joe’s eyes????

  • AdLib : Yes! We can’t drift from one manufactured crisis to the next! That’s the only area of manufacturing that’s always increasing under Repubs…aside from horse manure.

  • escribacat : Prez needs a translator for the children in the House.

  • glenn : You go! Mr. President! No more manufactured crisis!

  • foodchain : AD hey Everyone!! Don’t you just love our president

  • choicelady : Hey food – welcome! KT – filibuster reform is a Senate rule, so I’ll bet he does NOT discuss it tonight.

  • KillgoreTrout : Que Pasa FC!

  • KQµårk 死神 : Some day the word Obamacare is gonna be a rope around the neck on the GOP for another Dem accomplishment that helps real people.

  • foodchain : Hey Kes

  • AdLib : Hey Foodchain! Good to see you!

  • escribacat : Hi food

  • AlphaBitch : hey FC!

  • kesmarn : Hey, food!

  • foodchain : greetings

  • KillgoreTrout : I want to hear about filibuster reform. Nothing really effective has been done yet!

  • choicelady : PBO is the FIRST president in my adult memory to give tax breaks to PRODUCERS instead of those going OUT of business! I love this!

  • AdLib : Sen. Al Franken! Nice to see him again!

  • kesmarn : Yessir!

  • AdLib : Yeah baby, hammer the Repubs on their wanting to keep loopholes for the wealthy by harming the 99%!

  • choicelady : KQ – FBI confirms your numbers. Stopping fraud – a lot of phony ‘durable med equipment’ suppliers – is HUGELY good.

  • KQµårk 死神 : You know cat it doesn’t foment faux outrage.

  • kesmarn : All joking aside, Frennie. You do well to do that. I don’t use it but I hear it can be a toughie to manage.

  • KillgoreTrout : Ah Boehener, the master of the insincere hand clap!

  • choicelady : My husband’s doc said the hospital is now billing ONE CODE for all the things he’s getting for his care and THAT means COORDINATED CARE. Model? Cleveland Clinic! Ohio strikes again!

  • escribacat : Glenn — she really is.

  • escribacat : kQ — howcome that’s not a big headline????

  • glenn : e’cat–She, (Michelle) is just so dang cute!

  • AdLib : Bring down costs and deficit by being smart, reducing waste and paying for the wealthier. Come on Repubs, answer that, “We want dumb cuts!”

  • KQµårk 死神 : I just saw that they caught $4.2 billion in Medicare fraud in 2012 because of Obamacare.

  • escribacat : Coburn has a green ribbon too. Interesting

  • glenn : Yeah! Reduce the costs of medicines! And, I don’t even take any!

  • AlphaBitch : frennie! I love the xanax, but not the addiction. fortunately I get nightmares after a few days so I take myself off pretty darn quickly.

  • choicelady : AB – don’t wish to pry, but Xanax CAN produce irreverseable psychosis so BE CAREFUL.

  • kesmarn : Mmmmmmm…. xanaxxxxxx…..

  • AdLib : Kes – That is so important, with the non-stop propaganda from Repubs and Fox, the public needs to be educated on the truth.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : KT… Thanks….that is who Stewart is using as the model…now I get it…. Here is Droopy Dog clip…. «link»

  • KillgoreTrout : AB, or vodka!

  • escribacat : ab lol

  • KQµårk 死神 : Exactly CL. I know it exacerbated my dad’s condition near the end.

  • AlphaBitch : that look on Boehners face is pure Xanax. I know.

  • escribacat : Glenn, I love Michelle’s bangs too

  • choicelady : Boehner is chewing his lip. Hah!

  • AdLib : Nice – Nail the Repubs for wanting all cuts in social services!

  • kesmarn : Tomasky said the Prez’s main job tonight will be teaching.

  • glenn : You tell ’em–prez! “That idea is even worse!”

  • choicelady : KQ – eeeuuuuw – do NOT go into Fungus House. Your health is worth far more than that!

  • AdLib : Good, very glad he’s explaining Repubs in Congress voted for the sequester.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Oh we had planned to CL but the house needs too much work for us to move into since it has too much fungus damage.

  • choicelady : es – AdLib said the ribbon is Sandy Hook. I did not know either.

  • AlphaBitch : Hey CL! What is the green ribbon? Forgive my ignorance (and typing – I’m on the netbook)

  • kesmarn : AdLib says Sandy Hook, e’cat.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : AD LIB….your live feed is from the White House showing the enhanced presentation with graphs, charts, photos etc. I like it. I hope it remains available.

  • escribacat : What’s the green ribbon for, anyone know?

  • AdLib : Kes – You may be right there!

  • AlphaBitch : Maybe Boner glued his pants to his seat?

  • choicelady : AB – howdy friend!

  • AdLib : There’s that word…”togethe r”. Let’s see where this goes…

  • kesmarn : That cattle prod may not be in his leg, AdLib.

  • escribacat : hey AB and KQ!!

  • KillgoreTrout : I like the bangs. They accentuate her youthful outlook and prettiness.

  • choicelady : KQ – thought you were moving to PA???? OK – I can live with you in a BLUE part of the south. Live long and prosper (I’m making the appropriate hand signal.)

  • AdLib : Boehner applauds like Biden has a cattle prod sticking into his leg, ready to push the button.

  • AlphaBitch : hey ecat ! Better than McCain’s darting lizard tongue.

  • kesmarn : It’s warmer in the shallow end, glenn. I don’t wanna know why.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL and here is Droopy now…. «link»

  • escribacat : I wish Boehner would get control of his twitching mouth

  • glenn : Thanks, Kes. I don’t want to be shallow all by myself.

  • KillgoreTrout : Murph, that is definitely Boehner. Jon Stewart often imitates “Deputy Dog,” when talking about Boehner.

  • kesmarn : Hey, glenn, I’ll join you and admire the bangs too.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : CL….YESSSSSS.. …Droopy Dog….

  • AlphaBitch : Frennie! That stupid Popeye Ryan.

  • choicelady : Murph – that is EXACTLY what I was thinking. “Droopy Dog” wasn’t it?

  • AdLib : AB – I said earlier that Boehner looks a pale amber, like his breakfast.

  • glenn : Shallow, but I am listening to the speech, too!

  • kesmarn : YAYYYY! KQ!! And hey, Frennie!

  • choicelady : Congrat, KQ – we’re gonna make a Yankee of you again???

  • AdLib : Boehner’s thinking, “Great, I have to listen to all this bad news,” while Obama lists positive things about the country.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Boehner looks SOOOOOOO sad…..remember that cartoon character, a dog with droopy jowls, who used to moan all his lines?

  • AlphaBitch : Hey all. Boehner looks tan not orange tonight. Por que? Did you see my mayor, Julian?

  • glenn : CL and AdLib–I think she looks amazing, spiffy, and gorgeous. Her makeup looks great tonight too! Remember, I said you could call me shallow.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Yup it looks like I’m gonna get that house I put a bid on.

  • kesmarn : Wow… where is this life feed from, with all the appropriate visuals on the side? Techy! PBS is not doing that.

  • AdLib : Hey AB! Welcome!

  • AlphaBitch : good start. Now if I can just get my last one out…

  • choicelady : glenn – yes, Mrs. O looks spiffy I think!

  • AdLib : Does Obama look like a confident winner or what?

  • kesmarn : Boehner does look a little seasick.

  • AdLib : glenn – I think so, she looks amazing!

  • glenn : Okay, call me shallow. Did Mrs. Obama do something “artful” with her bangs?

  • SallyT : AdLib, I think he had those watercolors of Bushie in those envelopes!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Hey KQ

  • AdLib : Great to have you hear, KQ! You were missed!

  • KillgoreTrout : Good to see you KQ!

  • choicelady : Ryan – a heartbeat away. YIKES – makes Palin rise up in my gorge.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Hey AdLib great to be back.

  • AdLib : The official handing of the macaroni art to the VP and speaker.

  • kesmarn : And Ryan as veep would have been terrifying! Hi, KQ!

  • choicelady : ADLib – oh thank you . I did not know that. Wow.

  • AdLib : HEY KQUARK!!!

  • choicelady : Hi KQ – Indeed – I give thanks hourly!

  • AdLib : Green Ribbon – Sandy Hook

  • kesmarn : The green ribbon I mean.

  • KQµårk 死神 : Shutter and think for one moment how close we were from getting the biggest liar in history as POTUS.

  • SallyT : Cl, he just looked like a little creep sneaking up from behind.

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey glenn. My heart always flutters a bit when I see pictures or video of Gabby. What an amazing person she must be. And cute as a button.

  • choicelady : kes – no did not see that. Sorry I missed it.

  • kesmarn : Is it for gun control?

  • AdLib : Boehner looks kind of a pale amber, like his breakfast.

  • choicelady : OK anyone – what is the green ribbon Biden is wearing. Sorry – I’m ribbon deficient.

  • choicelady : Sally – I know, and on that I agree. But his PUNK HEART is what infuriates me!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : ALL- I watched the Current coverage of SOTU – John Fugelsang was excellend and he MOCKED the other networks for their wide eyed coverage of the spectacle in CA. I will miss Current- especially Granholm, but also Fugelsang, Press. Miller…

  • kesmarn : e’cat, it’s very good.

  • glenn : Gabby Giffords is one courageous lady! Just saw a shot of her!

  • escribacat : Kes, I saw an ad for that. I’d like to see it

  • SallyT : I was referring to his height behind the President, CL.

  • kesmarn : Anyone see the Frontline episode “Cliffhanger”? Cantor does not come off well.

  • choicelady : Sally – I have to disagree. Cantor is a BIG punk!

  • choicelady : kes – that’s FUNNY!

  • SallyT : Cantor is a little punk.

  • choicelady : Murph and AdLib = I got caught in the MIDDLE of the SLA shootout traffic racing to the scene.Worked on the edge of Watts – nightmare, and then got home to watch it. It was in a neighborhood I knew. Horrible.

  • glenn : Murph–I did finally figure it out. Went up to the top, just like Kes said, and hit the live events button. If all else fails, follow directions. And just for edification, I figured it out all by myself!

  • kesmarn : Ha… Mark Shields said that the reason the Prez was a little late was that he had to separate Harry Reid and John Boehner.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad Lib AND CHoice…you both speak TRUTH

  • AdLib : Here’s the Pres!

  • AdLib : Murph – I always feel anger towards the media when these kinds of exploitative “live” tragedies and crimes are broadcast. We don’t need to see it, so much else is going on.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Glenn…Ad Lib will tell you how baffled I was by Vox my first time.

  • choicelady : Murph – I’m so in agony about Dorner – the racism and lies that could drive a man mad. Well – here’s the Good Guy!

  • KillgoreTrout : Hey CL. Yeah, it is. I’m pretty sure that Dorner killed himself. Not sure how the fire got started.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Hey CL- sad but, hopefully, the end of a nightmare.

  • glenn : Duh–nevermind– I figured it out. How is everyone?

  • choicelady : Hi glenn!

  • kesmarn : Hey glenn, I scrolled up to the top and hit the “Live Events”button.

  • AdLib : glenn, click this link: «link»

  • choicelady : Hi Murph and KT – welcome! Sad day in Big Bear. Horrible stuff.

  • KillgoreTrout : Greetings and Hallucinations Ad!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Ad Lib…if that is the lesson learned then all of the breathless coverage has a value- otherwise it is trashy sensationalism

  • AdLib : So, will we hear any outbursts from Repubs this time?

  • glenn : Hey everyone–Anyone know how I can get this chat to show up on larger part of my screen, and not just on the side in a small format?

  • AdLib : Hey KT!

  • AdLib : Hey Murph! Yes, it is a poignant evening to see once again how the outsized power of destruction is put in the hands of any lunatic when guns are so freely available.

  • escribacat : all well kt except sore hand — can get wrap off so ican type

  • SallyT : So, apparently, Kes, he did.

  • kesmarn : What a sad situation.

  • SallyT : Kes, they heard a gun shot from the cabin and then a fire broke out.

  • MurphTheSurf3 : Kesman..that is what is being reported.

  • escribacat : you have my sympathy adlib — in future i only want old geezers

  • KillgoreTrout : Good to see you e’cat! I hope all is well.

  • escribacat : hi murph / kt

  • AdLib : Escrib – The first few weeks my arm was tattooed with bite marks. She’s a golden and a big long slim puppy…and bitey!

  • KillgoreTrout : Oh yeah, Good evening Planeteers!

  • MurphTheSurf3 : OH Here you all are….I was on the main page wondering if you all were watching the live feed of a cabin burning in CA. where someone gone deeply wrong having killed others has now killed himself. I hope all of that coverage and all those watching that this man had access to very powerful weapons and 1000’s of rounds of ammo.

  • SallyT : CL, if she is there, they will get a camera on her. But, she isn’t in the cabinet or the senate so she would be a visitor.

  • KillgoreTrout : Why does the media even announce Nugent’s attendance? The man is not credible in any way.

  • kesmarn : Is anyone going to yell out “You lie!” tonight? (I’m hoping at Nugent.)

  • escribacat : can’t beleive how gorgeous mo look

  • kesmarn : Debbie Wasserman Schultz there. Anti virus! Excellent, AdLib!

  • AdLib : Kes, maybe give your computer an anti-virus?

  • escribacat : ad — watch your hand! iwas just trying to put a coat on her! hand all sore and swollen next day but better now

  • choicelady : Sally – I think I was wrong about Hillary. A look alike.

  • SallyT : Oh, I didn’t see her, CL.

  • AdLib : Escrib, good news! Right now I’m fending off a big playful puppy right now who keeps grabbing my arm so I’ll throw her ball.

  • kesmarn : If I vanish, it’s ’cause the ‘puter is running hot and needs a cool down…or some antibiotics…

  • choicelady : Hey – Hillary IS there and just saw Michelle with that lovely young woman’s mother. She’s explaining to the mother what’s what.

  • SallyT : I kinda miss seeing Hillary there. But, I am sure she is enjoying watching from afar.

  • escribacat : hope someone put nugent in a straitjacket

  • choicelady : Missed Michelle! Rats.

  • kesmarn : She looks younger now than she did at the very first SOTU.

  • choicelady : escat – good, if his forever home is prepared for wrenched arms! I know they don’t know, but…

  • AdLib : Michelle Obama looks gorgeous!

  • escribacat : hey kes sally

  • kesmarn : I can hardly believe it. It’s only been about 6 hours, but yeah!

  • escribacat : c & ad — said greyhound adopted hhhoooorrraaayyy

  • choicelady : Hey Sally, kes! Well if antibiotics are working then it wasn’t all viral! Good for the wise doc!

  • AdLib : Hey Kes! You’re feeling better?

  • kesmarn : Hola! Let me just say that it is amazing what anti-biotics can do when you have a doctor who’s smart enough to overrule you and prescribe them!

  • AdLib : Hey Sally! Hope we can pink slip some of those employees of ours in 2014.

  • escribacat : gibbs on msnbc …miss him

  • choicelady : es – bad dog! Get well quickly, and tell grayhound to count his/her blessings YOU have fostered!

  • SallyT : Here comes the Judges! Here comes the Judge!

  • AdLib : Sorry to hear that Escrib, who did you punch?

  • choicelady : AdLib – LOL!!! She’s lookin’ for Mau Mau tattoos not know Kenyans aren’t Mau Maus.

  • escribacat : wriggly foster greyhound

  • choicelady : es dear – what happened to your hand?

  • AdLib : Foxx is planning on secretly frisking Obama to see if she can find his Kenyan birth cert.

  • SallyT : Look at all our well paid employees there in the Chamber!

  • choicelady : OK – this one’s for bito, wherever he may be. He’s very dearly missed tonight. Sigh.

  • escribacat : hey a — got cold pack onleft hand can’t type

  • escribacat : tv finally covering this

  • AdLib : Hey Escrib! Great to see you!

  • choicelady : es – That’s what the Orange Man said. Foxx is one of PBO’s escorts into the chamber. I’d check to make sure she’s not packing in her bloomers.

  • choicelady : Oh AdLib – THAT would be SO COOL!

  • escribacat : are u serious –foxx????

  • choicelady : escat! Hi! Glad you’re here!

  • choicelady : Virginia FOXX is escorting the president??????? ? That’s almost as risky as if Nugent were doing it!

  • escribacat : good eve folks

  • AdLib : I would love him to kick the game board over and declare that if any Congressperson isn’t prepared to work for the American people instead of harming the other party or helping theirs, they should resign tomorrow.

  • choicelady : As usually is true, AdLib – we are on the same page. Niiiiice!

  • choicelady : Where are Murph and Sally? See them in the balcony?

  • AdLib : Very nice, CL. I also want him to say that the game playing by Repubs has been played out and it is time for them to take their responsibility seriously and compromise with Dems to pass laws that are desperately needed.

  • choicelady : What do YOU want him to say???

  • choicelady : I want Obama to say that we can be a GREAT and FAIR nation IF we do the nation’s business, not the partisan work. I want him to say boldly that the GOP are the obstructionists. I want him to tell EmoProgs that his warfare is meant to reduce HARM. I want him to make us feel hope and I want him to remind people they have to work for what they want. Democracy is not a spectator sport.

  • AdLib : So…what do you want most to see Obama say tonight?

  • AdLib : CL – I don’t trust the LAPD but both could be true, Dorner may not be wholly lying but he still seems to be mentally ill.

  • choicelady : I will push everyone I can. The single best thing YOU did for me was the PDF file. MAN does that make this easy!

  • AdLib : Right, got it about working only with staff due to internal politics.

  • choicelady : I know I’m being naive – but what if Dorner not only is innocent in the original firing but ALSO of these killings. I truly do NOT trust LAPD.

  • AdLib : CL – I know you’ll do your best! Guilting is totally fair game,, especially when you’ve helped others with their bills.

  • AdLib : FWIW, HP’s official Dumb News headline right now is, “STATE OF THE WHAT?” with a photo of the Dorner house siege. Genius.

  • choicelady : Wait – isn’t that pedal? I am SO tired! I no longer can type, think, spell, most anything…

  • choicelady : At the very worst – next year. Sounds like the start of Passover – next year in the promised land – but now it’s ‘clean’ we DO have room to move. I have a few new leads, but I will put the peddle to the metal Thursday and see if I can freaking guilt trip people I’ve helped on other things. Guilt is not my usual strength, being who I am, but I say let ‘er rip, right?

  • AdLib : I saw it in your email but it wasn’t responded to, do you think you could ask them again about anyone else they might suggest we go to?

  • choicelady : AdLib – exactly. Everyone is loaded or overloaded I fear.

  • choicelady : I will write more off PPOV, but what IS good is the reception, even if the bosses of the people who like HOPE are all booked up.

  • AdLib : Is it all about the timing, people have too many bills on their plates?

  • choicelady : I have to say, I’m getting VERY discouraged about support, but I’m giving my all Thursday. I have had SUCH an amazing week w. respect to some other things I’m doing, that I have HOPE! (Yeah-pun.)

  • AdLib : Just hope we can get an author before then.

  • AdLib : Yes, really looking forward to it!

  • choicelady : Can you join our “lunch club” at Mama’s on Mar. 22?

  • AdLib : From advance word, it sounds like Pres. Obama is going for the “Big Speech” tonight. Should be very good!

  • choicelady : AdLib – Cruise. I think I can manage that!

  • AdLib : Hey CL! How about, “Cruise in?”

  • choicelady : Hi! Jump in? Is it OK after a very long day, if I just creep in?

  • AdLib : The Live Chat is open! Please feel free to jump in on the conversation!

  • AdLib : As a backdrop for the SOTU which will undoubtedly include calls for gun control laws, the Dorner manhunt seems to be coming to an end an sadly, one officer has been killed by what has so far been referred to as a machine gun…possibly a semi-automatic that has been converted. You know, the weapons that the NRA wants out there killing cops.

  • AdLib : Our live chat for President Obama’s SOTU Address begins right here at 5:30 pm PST. Hope to see you then!
