This was the scene outside Dean Heller’s Las Vegas office today. While Senator Dean Heller (R-“Tea Party”) continues to oppose anything he considers “not good enough“, meaning not painful enough for working class Nevadans, our country faces deep problems. This isn’t the first time Heller has felt the heat from his constituents, and I doubt this will be the last. Even though Nevada will better survive and thrive with a stronger push for clean and green energy, Dean Heller continues to oppose efforts to create more good green jobs. And even though many Nevadans rely on Social Security and Medicare for their very survival, Dean Heller has voted in lockstep with “TEA Party” radicals to kill Medicare and Social Security. And even though Nevadans understand that it helps no one to allow sick kids to die with no care, Heller twice voted against the very SCHIP program that millions of kids rely upon for their health care.
Oh, and did I mention Dean Heller has the dubious distinction of being the only member of Congress to vote TWICE for Paul Ryan’s “TEA Party” plan to kill Medicare?
That’s why we again saw protests outside Dean Heller’s office today.
America simply can’t afford any more taxpayer giveaways to the fossil fuel industry while middle class and working poor families continue to struggle. While Heller demands economy destroying “austerity” for us, he continues to back taxpayer giveaways for his big Wall Street sweethearts. And while Nevadans are demanding more and better jobs, Heller continues to oppose any and all efforts for better jobs for Americans.
We have to tell Heller to stop ignoring Nevadans’ needs while giving the fossil fuel industry everything it wants. And the rest of America needs to do the same with the the rest of the “Tea Party Congress” that continue to form a bloc that blocks any sort of real progress. This stopped being “cute”, “funny”, or “benign” long ago. This should serve as a rude awakening to our fellow citizens that what happens in Congress doesn’t stay in DC.

You want to fix the tax code? Close every loophole and end every tax break, and then jack up the tax rate for everyone earning as much as one million per year. But will Congress ever have the balls to do it? And will the American public ever wise up enough so that it won’t be duped by these ‘grass roots’ organizations such as the Tea Party, that are always funded by rich organizations? The question that I want to know is: is Middle America really that stupid, or does Middle America really intend to bring down the United States? Because if the Tea Party has its way, we won’t be a country any more. We’ll be so broke that we will resort to borrowing money from other countries such as China to fund our own operations. Oh wait, that’s already happened.
Excellent article. This is exactly the kind of class warfare the GOP has been raging against the American workers for over 30 years now.
Too bad we can’t give Heller’s voters the Hell(er) that his policies would lead to. Take away their entitlements, their police and fire protection, their teachers, their unemployment insurance, etc.
It is astounding how voluntarily blind people can be, supporting politicians who connect with their anger over how bad things are…yet want to make them far worse!
Despite being so disliked, Reid won against Angle. I would hope that a Dem could defeat Heller.
Good lord Al. How long you been waiting to pull that first line out? 😉
And Heller has to have lost labor and first responder support. I don’t see how he could win against a Dem who runs a solid campaign.
I feel your pain. My Senators are Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul.
Atdnext, thanks for writing your piece. I can feel your pain! I, too, have one of those “lock-steppers” with my Congresswoman, Virginia Foxx. She is a total embarrassment to the state of North Carolina!
Rep. Foxx is considered to be a “tenther”. You may already know about these repubs, but they are the ones who think that if a word or phrase is not written verbatim into the Constitution, then it is “unconstitutional”.
Rep. Foxx went on the floor of the House last week and made the statement that the words “health care” were nowhere in the document…therefore, any government involvement in health care was unconstitutional! These “tenthers” would also destroy any government involvement in education, agriculture, FEMA, and many other programs that Americans depend on, including Medicare and Social Security. In all my years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen our government under such threat!
I cannot give you much consolation about Heller. It’s incredible to see a small number of people do so much damage to our country!
Em, that’s pathetic about Foxx and the words “health care” not being in the Constitution. The word “idiot” isn’t in there, either, but she got elected in spite of that.
And adtnext, good on ya! For being at the protest, for the report and photos, and for sharing it here at the Planet.
