Thanks again AdLib & Everyone for the serious insights and the hilarious funny bits.
Adlib, you may want to copyright this stuff so it does not end up on the Late shows
or Bill Maher or worse- Cable News!
Vox Populi – Bring on the Latin, that will really confound them.
Good Night all…..

Bill Maher has been such a bore lately.

I know it’s shallow to be happy when the US economy loses ONLY 11,000 jobs in November but I have to admit I was surprised by that news today. Maybe the economy can actually gain some jobs next month. This is going to be a long tough recovery but I look for every positive sign I can find and this is probably the most positive.

I’m glad they are finally listing the underemployed number now to bring some reality to the situation we have not seen for a while. I guess the official unemployment rate is down to 10% and the underemployed rate is down to 17.2%.

So, I dunno what we’re talking about, but anyone here into soccer/football? See the World Cup group drawings?

And, oh yeah, I know they do this yearly, but I saw this in the local paper today: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/02/us/02atheist.html?_r=2

I was out and about tonight.

escribacat

I am amazingly ignorant about all team sports.

KQµårk 死神

Alas I’ll probably just watch the WC final but I did play real football a couple of years in high school. I was the sweeper and my claim to fame was my one goal from 50 yards out.

Khirad
Member

A sweeper scoring! Awesome!

Well, you guys didn’t miss out on much, I just happened to catch it. Charlize Theron was drawing the balls lottery style and letting out more of her Afrikaaner accent than usual in announcing.

We’re in Group C with England, Algeria and Slovenia. A good draw, I suppose. England’s not the powerhouse it once was. Italy had better though – they’re already in round two for all intents and purposes.

I get fanatical about the WC. In addition to sport, there’s a lot of geopolitics and it is absolutely fascinating to me the way their respective team’s play styles reflect their cultural attributes.

KQµårk 死神

That means the US shoots down opposing players with Predator drone aircraft and leaves it’s injured players on the field without healthcare I guess. Sorry I could not help my self.

Khirad

We have problem with follow through and passionate struggle in our game. And, we generally rely on the European and South American powerhouses to soften other teams up before we play them.

I’m not kidding, soccer is poetry. Take this from someone who was more interested in music and books and who hated all sports for the longest time.

It looks like I missed the chat — bummer.

OT MAJOR breaking news story out of Montana:

Montana Sen. Max Baucus ensnared in scandal in which he nominated his his mistress to a U.S. Attorney’s Office position.

Wow!

It never crossed my mind he was an unethical scumbag.

escribacat

UH OH!!! Of course my first thought is how does this impact the health care debate.

EDIT: Doesn’t seem like a huge deal based on this story:

Good day Kalima, how are you and your furry friends?

I have a young pup laying next to me in my office snoring his head off and running in his sleep! What a happy camper he is…

Kalima

Hello BDM, you are up late.
We are all ok. Hubby is in Barcelona, it’s raining there too.

Aren’t they the cutest sight when they run or talk in their sleep?

Our black cat Nikkie doesn’t say much when awake, she never stops when she’s asleep.

When are you getting your new foster tomorrow? Hope all goes well and it’s not too shaken up from the trip.

escribacat

Yes. The truck is arriving in Denver in the afternoon. I just got her crate and bedding ready. She’ll be a mess I imagine, having been in a truck for many hours, plus having spent her whole life in a crate she will be completely bewildered…and then she will start to realize how wonderful and interesting the world is! I’ve been told she’s a “sweet three year old black and white cat safe female named Country Girl.” I’m already in love!

How sweet, you’ll have use a good southern nickname like, “Little Girl” or “Missy”…”Sister” is a good one too, with her since she’s from the south.

Because, lawd only knows, that’s what them hillbilly’s do!

Kalima

I think that’s what is missing in my life, I need another cat, 16 after having 20 at the beginning of this year, is not enough. 🙂

escribacat

LOL. Kalima…You have 16 kitties? That is 64 little cats feet.

THE fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

That was cute escribacat.

Well yes 16 but only 6 of them inside the house, the rest, my refugees, live in our garage.

How’s your RA in the damp weather? Bothers my sister, her knee’s swell terribly.

We are supposed to have snow here this weekend, not much, only 2-3″. Can’t wait for the ground to freeze up, it a mud pit in my gardens for the boys to romp through.

Kalima

Not so great, full of water every week but the humidity bothers me more.

How was your expected storm the other night?

BigDogMom

BigDogMom

Not as bad as they said it would be, just blew all night, not much rain.

My sister has her knees drained every once and awhile, very painful for her, but then seems to recover after a day or so.

I see the pain etched in her face these past few years, I know it must be awfully painful…so I feel you, because I see what it has done to my sister and my late Father.

Take care. I’ll speak to you soon.

I especially like hearing the ways people view elitists. I think it’s a word people run away from lately because the right has demonized it but it really depends on how you define elite whether it’s a positive or negative connotation.

For example I hope if we do send troops to go after Bin Laden they are elite squads and not mediocre troops.

nellie
Member

It’s a very interesting point you bring up. It is really a neutral word, and we can put a positive or negative spin on it. Depending on the context.

BigDogMom
Member
BigDogMom

There are several meanings that people apply to elitism…educational, which the GOP have demonized; social, which would be the American Aristocracy, the top 1 or 2% wealthy of our Nation; or as you have used it, an “elite squad”, meaning someone or group that really knows what they are doing.

Like nellie says, it is how it is used in context to the subject matter.

What is everyone’s feelings on what Beck is up to, do you think he’s making a play, like Dobbs for some political office?

This man scares the hell out of me, more than Palin does. He know how to manipulate the masses the same way Hilter did. He plays to peoples fears and emotions.

He’s up to something, I just don’t know what….

kesmarn
Admin

Beck seems more likely to go off the deep end in a dramatic way than Palin, to me. But then, Hitler went off the deep end, too. Unfortunately he was in a position of enormous power when he did it.

There’s such a “big kettle of crazy” (to quote Dilbert) in the country right now, it’s hard to tell what’s going to float to the top when it gets stirred.

Pepe Lepew
Member

In a weird way, I almost want him to run with Palin, though the prospect of the two of them actually winning is *terrifying.*

The guy would be an absolute gaffe machine…

Then again, I believe very strongly in the maxim of “be careful what you wish for…”

BigDogMom

BigDogMom

If anyone in the media even asked them a question regarding policy or experience, both would claim that the ‘elitist’ leftist media was picking on them…

But then again, the media is making a lot of money reporting on these two, so they may tread lightly.
