I know, it’s so strange to just type words, and not codes. how liberating!

» Posted By zootliberal On February 8, 2011 @ 4:36 pm

the final email I just got for those kind folks:

“You have successfully closed your account with The Huffington Post. We’ll miss you!”

I am sure they will, ha ha.

I am so lucky to have seen your post over there Chernynkaya, I feel like Gene Hackman in the Poseidon Adventure, closing the door on all those screaming people who wouldn’t listen.

Jeez, i could use a big bowl of cabbage soup right now.

my parting shot before removing my account, sent to their ‘corrections’ admin:

3 years, 1300 some odd fans, and I get banned from commenting because I tried to tell some friends about another blog.
Ironically I had elected to stay here while keeping my options open. Telling friends at the other site not to be so strident in their objections to the merger.
So much for 3 years of reasonable posts, where I had many conservative friends despite being liberal.
I hope it was worth it for you, apparently nobody here has read “The Tipping Point”

I would have said good luck, but now I hope your whole enterprise fails.

You broke my heart.

Well, that tears it. I tried to be reasonable about the whole HP/AOL debacle, while also trying to pass info on this site to friends then, I was able to get off about more 5 more messages today before I got this:

Sorry, but you have been banned from commenting.

Ruthless bastards.

So you’re stuck with me here at The Planet, no going back now.

» Posted By zootliberal On February 8, 2011 @ 3:40 pm

tried posting again this morning, so far nothing has shown up. for what it’s worth, below is what may be my last post at HP:
posted a few minutes ago:

re; HP/AOL

“I think it’s hard to argue they have not been moving directly dead center,” Armstrong said of HuffPost.”

This is the most telling quote of all. But the majority of users here don’t want to be dead center, don’t they realize this? This site started out decidedly left wing, and has been moving right, but I never imagined it would move all the way. We need a counterbalance to the r/w newsource/ blog dominance, it’s as simple as that.

BTW, moderators – I am so on the edge right now, if this comment doesn’t show up, and though you may care less, consider me gone.

Corporington Post

Welcome chauncey1186! this is a great place, so glad you’re here.

It’s at the bottom of your profile page, I think, I deleted mine so I can’t check now.

Sue – look forward to it.

» Posted By zootliberal On February 9, 2011 @ 7:20 pm

this is a great story sue, and no, you don’t sound shallow at all! we can’t be obsessing about the state of American politics or the economy or foreign affairs all the time, we must also live and find enjoyment, otherwise why bother.

reveal5 – I’m in.

» Posted By zootliberal On February 9, 2011 @ 11:18 am

Siilentdances – I have seen some buzz about that, though I can’t imagine liberals working with the Tea Party as we know it.

» Posted By zootliberal On February 9, 2011 @ 10:31 am

ravenwood, so nice to have you here.

Buddy – that’s funny Dial soap and then Greyhound. Same experience here – started out as Sierra On-line (video games) but has been owned by Avis and then Vivendi – a french water and waste management company. We are now owned by Activision, which at least makes sense – through the layoffs continue.

Peabody, you might be onto something, love is blind and all that, let see what happens with the sexual passion fades and they are left with examining their relationship.

Bito – just a friendly reference to what a freedom fighting character in one of Kurt Vonnegut’s books (of the same name) would say when he restores some “rights” to people who had previously not had any (I’m paraphrasing to not spoil the book) – killgoretrout knows of this I am sure.

david p,

Hold on, i can’t recall many posts defending HP as such. Defending progressive causes, absolutely, but just because we were there doesn’t mean we were devotees of AH. For the past year I have been complaining as much as possible about the moderation there, among other things.
And, “messing around a little with AOL” my god man they merged with AOL, they are in bed right now with AOL doing the dirty deed, they are not messing around.

And how is The Planet a direct competitor? This is the web FFS, free discourse and all that crap.

Finally there is a huge difference between trolls and people with contrary positions on the issues. I used to relish some of the great debates with conservatives there, even lost my share of them, but always friended those civil in their discourse. As I would you.
Please don’t be a stranger – let’s get it on.

and cheeriogirl if ya see her.

» Posted By zootliberal On February 8, 2011 @ 10:02 pm

Killgore –
Well she talks to all the servants about Man and God and Law
Everybody says she’s now the brains behind AOL
She’s sixty-eight, but she says she’s fifty-four
I ain’t gonna work for Arianna no more

Welcome to monkey house plato, good to see you here.

Pocketwatch – you’re dead on right. I’ve worked for the same company for 15 years, it’s been bought sold and merged about 5 or 6 times. Every time it’s the same, the new execs say something like “it’s the people that are important” and without fail, 6 to 9 months later they take a big batch of those people and throw them out the door. As a matter of fact, tomorrow afternoon, just after their earnings report, my company is about to do it again. i will tell you the name tomorrow night, just to be safe – SEC and all that crap.
