just wow, thank you! – this will be so helpful. I am up to my ears in work right now, so haven’t had much time to post, hopeful that will change soon and I can put some of these great tips to use.

This might be a good place to ask this question: When I click on the Member Driectory link above, there is no list – what should I see? Am i doing anything wrong?

I am pretty sure many people hearing that temperature will rise a few degrees or the oceans will rise a half a foot shrug off such news as insignificant, when they should be screaming “holy shit” – it’s almost like our biggest problem in the US, if not the world, is how extremely ignorant we are (KQuark’s post “stupid is as stupid polls” all but confirms this). I mean if 37% of Americans can’t find their own damned country on a map, how could we expect them to understand the damaging effects of a 3 degrees rise on the Celsius scale. Or what Celsius is for that matter.

Excellent Caru, this is especially important information in light of the new house chairmen of energy saying today that global warning does not have an important man made component (which in my mind is nonsense).

jdmn17 – a little off topic but when you have a few minutes take a look at this still montage of Vietnam war pics I put together a few years ago. I was working on a project that had access to scores of high quality pics from the National Archives and I couldn’t let the opportunity pass without marrying some of them to one of my favorite Dire Straits songs.

jdmin, my political arc mirrors yours. I too was raised in a Republican household – but when I returned from Vietnam I marched right over to the Vietnam Vets Against the War and have not looked back. I know exactly what you mean about Nixon, as I used to rail against him, but nowadays would welcome him as a member of the “loyal opposition.” I think the two parties in general and the Republican party in particular has forgotten the mean of that term: “loyal opposition.” In my naive mind it means we can agree to disagree while at the same time working toward the common goal of making this a better country (and world) for all, and not just the elite.
BTW, Bush 1 was the last Republican my father voted for, he choose Clinton in 1992, and Gore in 2000, Kerry in 2004 and would hav voted for Obama had he lived to 2008. He too lamented the same.

Hey KB723, I realized I overstated after I left that post, it seems like there’s a longer conversation but can’t find it. I have been heads down in a heavy work schedule for over a week, which is coming to an end soon, thank goodness. I miss this place.

Nah, that was it, my posts were respectful as usual. I was firing off one post after another though. I had gone into my friends activities, found where many had posted to non-moderated (or so I thought) threads and jumped in there with a simple message about The Planet. i had about 30 links tabbed, but after about five messages I was banned from commenting. I varied each message to beat the spam filters. I am guessing the same moderator may have caught a couple and noticed what I was doing. My bad for being too agressive.
I’ve posted the link at AH’s facebook page (along with more complaints) and they are still there – so that may be a good place to get the word out.
About half the comments there are critical btw.

Chernynkaya – So cool, in High School I turned in an English term paper about Benny Goodman visting and playing for the people in Kiev, and how much he liked the people and the people liked him. I was a big swing music fan at the time, with BG a hero, and his perspective made me reconsider mine, along with all I had been taught about the big bad Russians – a seminal point in my young life really. So I have always held a special place in my heart for Kiev. Your name may actually have resonated just for that reason, who knows?
