Just so you don’t think that Australia doesn’t have it’s share of xenophobic racists, take a look at this Conservative political adviser’s comments on Ireland’s Same-sex Marriage Referendum as it might apply in Australia. The segment starts about 6.30 in, or just read the article and the comments!

Here’s a hilarious video from the end of a Foo Fighter’s Concert just outside Dublin, Ireland. The Garda ( Policewoman) is asking the crowd not to rush the exit. They respond by repeating all she says!

With you, Nirek, on both counts. I do feel for the poor Cubans who will be thrown out of their homes near Havana by the Government, so that big resorts can be built for the Yanqui Dolla. Cuba will also lose a lot of atmosphere when the Rich Collectors buy up all the vintage cars there.

Yes! Ireland, most recently less a Celtic Tiger than a mangy tabby, has roared back to life! and now Italy wants to follow suit! Well, USA, whaddya gunna do??

Fantastic video, fergie! Yes, it looks as if History has been made. the YES vote is miles ahead of the No.

Of course, Ireland being Ireland, there were some classic quotes from Voters. When one father of a gay man was asked if he backed same sex marriage, he replied. “Of course I’m for same sex marriage! I’ve had the same sex with my wife for 34 years!”

An historic day for Ireland and the World. Today, the people of the Republic are voting in a referendum to change the Constitution of Ireland to allow Marriages for LGBT citizens. this is a World first, where the change is being voted by the People, not the Legislature in a plain YES or NO format.. Polls show a large majority in favor, but, of course, it depends on the turnout. The influence of the Catholic Church has waned markedly among younger voters (no explanation neccessary), so their exhortations to vote NO are only resonating with some older people in rural areas. Many Irish voters have actually flown home to vote, even from Australia. I’m proud of that.

Isn’t it ( not so) funny that the USA still does not recognize that what Turkey did to the Armenians 100 years ago today constitutes Genocide? What else could one call over 1 million Armenians killed over a very short period?

Perhaps it is because the USA also committed genocide on the Original Americans. Opens an unpalatable can of worms. Not to be outdone, the Federal Government of Australia hasn’t recognized it as a genocide either (some individual states here do). This is probably because the Original settlers systematically slaughtered the Aborigines to steal their land, and an equally nasty can would open here. Now, if it were Iran, or some country ending in -Stan were the perpetrators, the USA would be screaming for blood. Except that Turkey is strategically important, so we’d better hide out heads in the sand and maybe it’ll all blow over tomorrow. A great example to the World from the Land of the Freebee.

You’re right, funk! Jus a word or two needs adding or changing and we have the perfect anthem! Pity it reminds us of Texas, though!

» Posted By pinkpantheroz On April 21, 2015 @ 12:30 am

Agree, funk. Would anyone have a tune to which we could link it? I’ve tried a few Irish-type tunes but can’t quite do it.

» Posted By pinkpantheroz On April 18, 2015 @ 9:53 pm

Here’s a Workers tune for what’s happening right now. I got it from the Mudcat discussion forum, author unknown. All I know is that I wish it was me!

Ye Greedy Bastards All!
1.Oh come ye greedy bastards all, oh let your tale be told,
Of how ye came into the land, in far off days of old,
To build your castles strong, and hide behind their walls,
To take the best, and fill the chests of greedy bastards all.

2. We worked upon your stubborn soil, to plough and sow and reap,
The forests and the fields held by the baron and the sheep,
Like cattle we were bought and sold, while you grew fat and tall,
Our purpose but to fill the gut of greedy bastards all.

Ye greedy bastards all, ye greedy bastards all,
Time to sing of Captain Swing, King Arthur and Jack Straw,
And when will everyman be invited to the ball,
And cease his toil to share the spoils with greedy bastards all.

3. You took us from the land, and put us on your mighty wheels,
Eternity upon the treadmill of your wretched mills,
With political economy to sanctify the poor,
Who pay the dues and turn the screws for greedy bastards all.

4. Revolutions and went, and hopes are all but passed,
Yet still the hydra grows its head behind its walls of glass,
High up on your balcony, your pride will stand no fall,
Still pissing on the peasants, ye greedy bastards all!

Ye greedy bastards all, ye greedy bastards all,
Time to sing of Captain Swing, King Arthur and Jack Straw,
And when will everyman be invited to the ball,
And cease his toil to share the spoils with greedy bastards all.

5. Now dressed up in your finest suits, you stand in serried ranks,
Your judges call for prison walls for the man who robs the bank,
But the banks that rob the man are protected by your laws,
All hail the global mafia of greedy bastards all!

6. We all vote for that rainbow’s end, with its pot of gold,
Yet still the markets call the tune, as dreams are bought and sold,
Those starlings in the garden fly away before the fall,
And Robin Hood drowns in the flood of greedy bastards all.

Ye greedy bastards all, ye greedy bastards all,
Time to sing of Captain Swing, King Arthur and John Ball,
And when will everyman be invited to the ball,
And cease his toil to share the spoils with greedy bastards all.

Sanity prevails over Hannity! Brilliant work by President Obama, his Sec.State and all the team of the partners who got this done. Now, Bibi’s head can explode, but we won’t hear a thing. I’m also not betting on the GOP immediately saying they’ll scutt……..Oh, they’ve done that already. Lordy, such hatred for an outgoing President who now has a HUGE legacy. Lame Duck my Arse!

SUCCESS!!! Thanks, Adlib and Kalima

hi, Kalima,

Sorry but this is getting bigger than Ben-Hur!

Now that i am signed in, I see the bottom right hand box with ‘Links to”. BUT, when I bring up POV from scratch, that box is labeled META. AND, I’m still unable to use that login area. So I’ll use my get-around for now. Hope this helps diagnose things.

» Posted By pinkpantheroz On March 27, 2015 @ 12:17 am

Haruko, there’s a bypass that works. When you go into POV first, don’t try to login on the front page. Go to anyone’s post and press the ‘login to reply’ button. When the login page appears, it will have that anti-bot line. sign in and do the math, then you should be OK. Works for me.

Here’s Part 2:

Entirely my pleasure, Kes. Dad was 6′ 4″! John Ford did help to show him as a genuine dramatic actor as well as a comedian.

» Posted By pinkpantheroz On March 20, 2015 @ 6:16 pm

For those Planeteers who love the old Black & White movies, John Ford and my Dad( πŸ™‚ ), here’s a little known opus from The Great Man, introduced by Tyrone Power. It’s a trilogy of vignettes. Apologies for the Spanish subtitles, the lack of lip synch and the quality. Maybe you could find it elsewhere, but here goes:

This is Part 1. Parts 2-4 are on YouTube.

Agrippa, you’re absolutely right. You’ve hit one major point on the head. It is in the interests of the rich and powerful to keep the swarming masses uneducated, ignorant and easy to manipulate. The denial of education, voting rights and fear mongering are their tools of trade. Media is slanted to the masses by featuring most major sports on cable, and the ‘News’ there. So the insidious propaganda about ‘freedoms’ spreads, but any actual information, which might educate, is simply not there.
I think that being a citizen of a country like the US is a privilege, and it should come with a corresponding responsibility, which is, every 2 years to go to a polling booth and vote. It should be, as in other Democratic countries, obligatory. If this were made law, then voting rights would be automatically enshrined and heavy penalties levied on those who try to negate that right. Everyone of appropriate age in the US should be, not only able to vote, but obliged to do so. It is a tiny obligation in return for the greatness that is the USA. Then might the geniune ‘Freedoms’ be available to all.

True, KT. This insensitivity is the hallmark of this odious cretin. Not a bit of class anywhere to be seen. Cringeworthy at the very least, and this berk is the leader of a country built on the backs of the Irish immigrants, like me.

» Posted By pinkpantheroz On March 12, 2015 @ 7:56 pm

A Very Happy St. Patrick’s Day to one and all( for Tuesday)! Now, you would think that any Prime Minister of a country like Australia would praise the Irish diaspora for their hard work making this country the powerhouse it is and which punches well above it’s weight in the world. Oh, bugger me, NO! The patronizing cretin put this message out to the most august business associations, the Lansdowne Club ( founder member here) and the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce. The reaction has been savage and this pitiful patronizing cringeworthy clip will NOT be shown at their Lunches.

As one commented: ‘Roll on the Republic of Australia”!

It looks like a DHS funding deal will be made, without the Immigration riders. Hopefully this will pass, but I’d love to see an Executive Order or Rules Amendment vetoing the insertion of riders to bills that have nothing to do with the main subject.

Our Prime Minister, Tony Abbott faces a leadership revolt within his own Party. Check out this HP article:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/05/australia-pm-abbott_n_6627024.html

I particularly like one comment:

‘You don’t lie to the people, impose draconian measures on the aged, poor, disabled and disadvantaged while gutting health, education and public services, give handouts to the well off and weaken tax regimes so corporations can funnel more profits offshore. Voters have just rid Queensland of Abbotts conservative counterpart for saying one thing and doing the opposite. Abbott similarly is a dead man walking.’

Sound familiar??????????????? GOP’ers are the same the world over.

Nirek, don’t know if you still scan HP like I do, but here’s an article on the Middle East’s response.
