Well, I’m off for a while… despite people’s predictions about what life would be like in the 21st century, houses just don’t clean themselves.

There is a bright side, I suppose. For Christmas I received a RosettaStone Spanish course… so the nice part about menial house-cleaning chores is that I can clip on my mp3 and practice my Espanol whilst I scrub-a-dub the dishes and sweep up the dust bunnies.

Oh, BDM… that’s a shame. I encounter that sort of thing on a daily basis and have the permanent teeth marks in my tongue to prove it.

For what it’s worth, I think you did the right thing in walking away.

On edit, I’d like to add my own most recent personal encounter: I was at work where I deal closely with customers and have to always present the best face possible. Yesterday I had some asshat at my desk complaining bitterly about how “the blacks” get a whole month just for their history and “when do the whites get their history month?”.

Good grief. What do you do? I just smiled and as sweetly as possible said “Well I guess that’s what the other 11 months are for, and they did give black history the shortest month of the year.”

What I wanted to say would have included quite a bit more venom and much more expletives.

I don’t know if this will make sense but, I actually enjoy being the least intelligent person in the room. I was always the “dumb” one in our little clique of “geeks” at school. I loved it then and I love it still.

For one thing, I think hanging out with people greater than yourself helps to elevate and enlighten you and, since I already know my own strengths & weaknesses and I’m old enough to feel no need to try to be something I am not, intimidation is not really a factor.

Smart & nice are my favorite type of people.
