Nice you came over. I was there today trying to pry a couple of friends fingers from the keyboard. I saw several articles that fit the description. Lurid headline, body of story refuting said headline – or at least modifying it, comments running 10 to 1 trollers. Progressives backed against the wall and packing together in posts, find one progressive and you’d find five. Trolls shooting at them from all sides. Ugly. I saw one story about the journalist who was assaulted and went to comments and was sickened. How can someone say mean things about rape? They managed. I ran around in there, posted ten fast comments/replies and flagged like hell. This morning three of ten posts made it through moderation, nine responses to my posts, two made it, rest scrubbed including two “decent” ones. I don’t know, I guess it was what we knew. Here you can say and be what you need to be.

Little slow on the hello but welcome here. Good people and your views and opinions are given the same weight as anyone else. Like that about this place. No real hierarchy. Some post a lot, some blog, some make small talk, some comment only. Not like HP. No real snark at you personally. You’ll see longer posts but all in all you are going to learn a lot and teach some too.

First couple of days were kind of wild. Of course all the newbies wanted to RANT and grieve. They made a couple of stories but we were roaming all over here whining and complaining (speaking for myself only as everyone else seemed to come in better adjusted). So perhaps to get me off the main threads for a day or two they made a special site for people to go rant – what was There, leave Here or something like that. And then Zoot, bless his soul did this post and it seems like everyone has been landing the last couple of days.

Lara Logan of CBS news was brutally raped in Egypt. I went to read the comments. Surely, surely no one would be cracking wise – right?

At least ten really insensitive remarks, the Islamaphobia out in force, guess the forget Egypt also has another religion or two there, what was that again? Christian. And the Secret Police were still on the prowl.

But, no, jump on the Muslim hate train and ride along.

Same way when Gabby Giffords was shot, was that the first day I heard the first nail being driven in the coffin of my staying at HP?

And yet you read my words and replied here. That is very interesting. Or is it you knew everyone who came over? I read my stuff, probably because I had fewer than 500 fans until the last couple of weeks. When you’re a fledgling and someone writes back it’s kind of interesting to see what they say, most of the time it was snark, maybe I would have been better off not reading them 🙂

What’s different here for me. Later at night there’s often a smaller crowd around one thread. Posts post so you are kind of chatting unlike HP where I’d post and maybe it would be there in the morning. The morning greetings are mostly here and there. Not a lot of people on at 7 CST so I look for where people are. Then there are the newcomers who get greeted. I guess it’s new for me and more homelike. At HP you came and went and very few people noticed. I guess I don’t have a wide social network. I build furniture in my little workshop behind the house, in and out all day and rarely see humans except my son and occasionally my daughter so this is kind of like my place to connect.

I tried the quiet way, telling them I was just back to visit and had found a new home. Did get one guy I didn’t know who wrote back asking so I sucked it up, coded it and sent it off. No mod got it yet. I was just going to tell him, actually I have an older post that says it and wasn’t scrubbed, maybe I’ll try that.
