I think some of that comes from HP – will that ever end? – where longer attempts to post got bounced. So you learn to keep is simple and in effect gain no skills. I think we can all contribute here, maybe just something as simple as a woo hoo. But I do learn and am astonished at the depth of knowledge, I can’t ever remember ten times on HP where people were throwing information into a thread like they do here. One silly night – it seems like months ago now – a group got going posting old songs. It was a blast from the past and made me melancholy for the old days and then again, not at all as the old days had some very traumatic times. But we are here now, and as trite as it sounds. We are more unified here on POV that we or at least I was ever over THERE. To watch familiar names appear here every day welcoming new people, to see familiar avatars is beyond special. I guess I am just a little in awe and hoping I hold up my end of things. I know I’m doing my best. Thanks again. Maybe needed a little boost today, all these great posters, another day of mind numbing cold, the first break from SADS as the warmth of the sun is finally gaining some real strength. A couple of personal things still sticking in my craw. I don’t know. Maybe that some of the old fears kicking up once more. I must have led too sheltered a life because my experience to date has been bloggers as sole entities or maybe two people. Here the stories are written by the same people I see posting comments – don’t make fun please, I live a rather cloistered life and when I encounter something new and amazing I have to spend some time processing it. The articles I’ve read so far are just remarkable and several appear to have been written by people who have only recently come over from the dark side. I think I must have stumbled into a classroom of grad students and I’m just a lost ninth grader. Maybe that’s why I fanned so many of you back in the alternate universe. I saw the number of fans and badges and keyed in on those things and was rewarded by coming to follow a whole lot of people who migrated here. He was playing along and my date – we were sorta stoned – kept whoowhoing quietly and finally he started playing this one tune and lo and behold he took his right hand OFF the guitar and never missed a note. I know there are people who are street smart or worldly who might not be super intelligent but they survive and thrive. And I know a lot of very intelligent people who are kind of lost out there in the world – like my 22 year old daughter who I think will grow out of that particular thing. And a lot of them are like me. I use power to rough cut but from there it’s all hand tools and hand made joints (NO – not weed!). We have a lot of barns out here from the late 1800’s and a wide variety of woods. I can choose from white and red pine, ash, birch, fir, tamarack, elm, hard and soft maple, walnut, butternut, cherry, red and white oak. We also have several guys who work small companies, harvesting diseased trees or doing clean up work from storms. One friend of mine hand makes guitars from trees knocked down in a huge straight line wind storm in 1999 along the MN/Canadian border. Some of his stuff just knocks me out. Such beautiful wild grains. Once I learned the major sites, including finding who was funding the various “polls” they cited, I got to where I could simply read the link and know whether it was going to factual or just trash. Toward the end I didn’t bother, they no longer posted any opinions really, mostly just one liner attacks. Still I am amused at the infrequent attempts to cite some outrageous lie. “Got a link”? The thing is that a lot of us were there and saw the deterioration and complained as softly as we could. But it became more and more like People Mag lite with links to TMZ and Radar for example. And Ariana’s obsession with the Palins finally turned ugly and over the top. Last week, when many people were trying to get her into the background with Anne Coulter – where she belongs IMO – there she was pasted all over the site. The other thing about her and the Palins is she would leave stories on endlessly, apparently if there were still a poster or two out there she would cater to them. The result was that on one page you might see three overlapping stories often in contradiction with the other. When the news is stale then replace it. The whole Egypt story was the final sort of straw. We would have a decent flow of moderated comments going and then poof, the 5000 posts were gone and you were on a new one. To find the old thread you had to go back to your comments and get the link. People had no idea where to go to share.
