Displaying 571 To 600 Of 960 Comments SueinCA – Thanks, that’s good to know. I’m willing to hang in and grow. I started my own little blue table business three years ago and know well enough about growth and small steps. I’m just glad I’m finding folks » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 4:48 pm Too wild, that’s the company line eh? The only thing I felt they owed me was to let the moderators unleash the threads. When they tightened it down even more then I was out of there. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 4:45 pm This thread is giving me the chills. Everyone here seems to be someone I fanned! Yeah. I was really missing the familiar snarky attitudes you all brought to HP that gave me a smile on days I really needed one. So glad someone got this posted at HP before they got deleted. Thanks to anon whoever you were » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 4:44 pm Trying to wade through spaces and symbols to understand words was a real pain, when I’d decode it I couldn’t believe why they had to do it until I tried to respond. You know, we couldn’t have this conversational thread today on HP without it being deleted. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 4:38 pm I’ve got a question. How do we know if someone writes us back? I mean if I post on two or three threads and someone writes back is there a message we get? Or do we have to search and search manually? Just curious » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 4:35 pm Yeah, ignorant and stupid. And what was up with Orange? » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 4:33 pm And Ariana and Palin (though to be fair I’ve not seen anything here on her – maybe it’s Ariana that’s keeping her alive – and mods and I don’t think I have to spend all that time writing a bad word with spaces or underscores or symbols. Whew. Nice to see you here. It’s like we just got off the space ship in Close Encounters. Little bewildered but nice to be on firm ground again » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 4:31 pm That was funny – looking at your phone and seeing HER number and deluding yourself she must have slipped into your house overnight and entered it there. I’m more stopping by today to see who is still around, or more realistically who is getting through the mods. I put a lot of time and effort into the discussion. Much less than some, more than others. But it was was made it great. The stories were more and more fluff but the commenters made it great. I suppose we’ll all land somewhere. I think here and alter are it for now for me – good to see familiar names here. Suppose most of you have been here a while. I’m still growing familiar with new layouts – like how to get my avatar up here – no clue and alter was easy » Posted By jdmn17 On February 8, 2011 @ 9:22 am Into, good to see you. Wondering if you’d come over. I went back this morning to see the headlines and got sucked into two threads – no comments left but I noted a decided absence of people I’ve fanned. They are mostly here now. I thought of trying to slip something through the mods but the last post of mine they did was several days ago after almost 24 hours of moderation. I think they were poring over every word trying to find my code to direct people here. I thought of a lot of corny stuff but in the end just gave it up for major threads and I wasn’t heavily followed so I don’t think people are looking for me. Regardless, nice to see you joined us » Posted By jdmn17 On February 11, 2011 @ 12:19 pm Kind of like spotting an old love at a restaurant and instead of leaving you hide behind a fern and watch for a while. Think I’ll leave them to their dinner. They have reasons for staying on HP and it’s not my call. Anyway I see a lot more going on at “my table” than hers. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 6:58 pm Holy shit, that was just wrong for so many reasons. Thanks although it makes me a little sick in my gut. Wonder how many of the remaining folks will get there and see it? Done and done » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 6:20 pm Ah, yes, there was one person who claimed she was from PQuebec. My family is from there back to 1752 and I asked her some really simple thing and she knew nothing at all. Why would someone want to be a fake Canadian? Nothing against Canadians, love them dearly, but if I was going to be fake something I might go for Lichtenstein or something where I could be descended from royalty or something » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 5:41 pm BBK got more stuff through that I know would have died before it even posted to myself. She will get the word out, hopefully we’ll see her here? » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 5:37 pm Haruko, you already said it, if someone says they are Canadian and doesn’t know who Don Cherry is they are NOT Canadian. As for the one calling himself DPenner, I do believe he is the one from HP who got himself kicked off. He enjoys the games, what can you expect from someone who has health care, the loonie and better beer than we have down here? I’m here, I’m glad to be away from HP and for my money, everyone here comes in clean and gets to prove themselves otherwise. I’m too old to hold grudges or bring over old baggage. I love the people who are here from HP and I’m willing to be open minded until proven otherwise. If we can’t fight from time to time we aren’t much of a family. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 5:32 pm I sent an email to a friend the other day and actually wrote A$$hole. She wrote back and asked me WTF I was talking about. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 5:23 pm I think we have all mellowed here. I wrote somewhere else I thought maybe the whole troll thing got all our hackles raised and in response we were all a little edgy. He said something to that effect as well so I suspect he got shot at from the far left like we got shot at from the far right. Absent agitators we can actually talk here without making it personal » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 5:20 pm KK, I tried writing planet but it got bounced pretty fast » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 4:59 pm I’d love to hear David Penner’s story. That one came so fast and noisy it must have been a pip » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 4:56 pm Why else would we be wasting money and materials down there all these years? I have to believe that’s the real reason so many countries staked out claims. It’s not like anyone’s going to sign on for a spa weekend. It’s always about oil isn’t it? And I suppose minerals but I can’t imagine drilling rigs would work well in the cold. My tool bits get brittle at -15 so I’m guessing they get really brittle at -50. I never had the allure for the super cold after one winter here when I took a glass of water outside, threw it in the air and it was frozen when it hit the ground » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 2:30 pm My grandfather told me once that even if I didn’t learn something I at least learned something more about myself, namely I wasn’t open to consider other opinions. I remember laughing at that, now it makes more sense. Helps to be my gramps age now when he told me that » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 1:41 pm That makes sense. I mean I’m anti-war and I want smaller government but I really don’t like their overriding agendas. And their take on smaller government also includes more regulation of the female ovaries. Even as an old white dude I have to draw the line on that one. I was married to a woman who was involved with PP and was targeted by the anti-abortion crowd like she was. Having fought for women’s rights I’m not about to let them get hijacked by a bunch of bitter old people wrapped in their American flags carrying crosses. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 1:36 pm You probably take the whole Noah thing with some skepticism. That’s what got you modded, everyone knows Noah didn’t stop there or Australia. I wrote something nearly as innocuous on sports on Sunday and never got through the mods. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 1:31 pm bito, I think the annoyance maybe came to all of us from time to time. I believe the trolls, the mean ones on HP actually polarized people left and right to where there was so much vitriol we couldn’t have a real discussion. I’ve noticed, without naming names, that a couple of the right leaning folks from HP are here and it’s not like I agree with them all the time but they are taking their time to make thoughtful posts we can discuss at least. I don’t expect them to change their thinking anymore than I think they are here to convert me. Maybe that’s the difference. We can agree to disagree, talk and walk away without feeling abused or demeaned. I think that’s a good thing » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 10:43 am Zoot, I thought some of the early TP talks were interesting but it got hijacked so quickly by the far right I still think many original TPers are wondering WTF happened. I think I would have a hard time working with the TP in any way because of their take on social issues. Or to be blunt, there are an awful lot of homophobic, birther, anti-gays there, or at least getting the press. Sorry, been through enough bigotry as a kid growing up and I just won’t merge my liberal thoughts with people who are white, christian centric » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 10:39 am I’m still signed on to HP I’ve decided to add HP to my February without Palin boycott. I’m tempted to go back and contact some old friends but I think if they are looking this place is easy enough to find so I’ll miss that but the richness of the people here coupled with the familiar avatars of other newbies like me is pretty nice. » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 7:06 am AdLib Couple of thoughts. When I make a comment back to someone down a couple of pages it posts but takes me back to page 1 of the comments. Is that me? Or normal? Two, it would be nice to have page numbers some day so you can find your way back to where you were. That’s small stuff – the freedom here is wonderful, so many people here whose opinions were really meaningful to me. And more coming! » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 7:04 am I never actually knew your name but I fanned your words and avatar – nice to see you here » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 6:46 am That would be nice, scrolling, scrolling, scrolling I’m patient though, everything I write goes through. The one that really got me at HP was someone would post a response at HP, I could read it but it never made it through the mods. Several of my favorite posters, now here, were getting cut off at the knees a lot the last week » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 6:43 am KB – I was trolling around HP trying to find some story that wouldn’t go into moderation. I saw several people mentioning alternet. I went there and found a few folks but I could tell people were a little confused and disoriented so I went back to HP and searched some more. Finally it was either zoot or SueinCA (former giants44) who mentioned this place and when I signed on I was delighted to see so many people here. I never had the kinds of fans they did and the fans I did have were dropping in numbers as I watched so I decided to dip my toe in and lo and behold several wrote right back and said “hi”. All of the people here were my mentors for posting at HP, people with several years of experience and a good following. I tried to follow their lead in creating my own posts and their mutual delight I came over made me feel welcome. Now there are even more than two days ago and it’s starting to feel like a new home, still getting used to things but the people whose opinions I really valued have given me some comfort. And there might be trolls here but I don’t think they can approach what HP became. I don’t miss it one bit » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 6:32 am Kilgore, nice to see you, was one of your fans although I am a rather low fan (HP) user I enjoyed your posts immensely – good you are here, you are going to see from very familiar faces » Posted By jdmn17 On February 9, 2011 @ 6:23 amComments Posted By jdmn17
