I liked we had fans and faves and badges, that was something people worked for and it helped me find people who were long time posters and learn from them. So to that end it mattered there. Instead of seeing a count, I saw the flag was successful, I wondered what was up but like any betrayal it’s only after the fact that we often put the pieces together. I think she did dump them after the AOL talks began. Why else would she do that? She had sent her trolls to incite us all and in return we repaid her with our venom toward them. Dumping the flag count meant she could leave them there. The other thing. In the old days when comments were deleted they were usually of the troll hate variety. In the last month I noted a lot of the posters were complaining about getting perfectly reasonable posts deleted and I began to wonder again. And then it seemed that when a post was deleted you used to be able to at least view the replies. In many cases even the replies were gone from the site so I suspect these posts are the ones who were complaining about legitimate posts going away. All little stuff but it added up. I can recall reading comments from other people I followed who were talking about losing 30-40 fans in two days. It was clear people were bailing and when I went in to look at some of my favorite posters they were gone. Hence my finding the link here and following it quickly. I wasn’t a high fan numbered guy so I didn’t have the time or effort others had put in. But I felt angry about several things and knew the quality of the stories, already disintegrating, would continue down. That seems to have been proven right so far. I remember complaining about their being four articles about Palin and another with her photo in it on the politics page one day. And two stories about her daughter as well. I really don’t know but something is so wrong there I can’t even believe it attracted me in the first place. I will adhere to the reassignment of the HP remarks to here, I think it’s hard at times when you make a funny, like misspelling a word you had to misspell or it would get modded. We’ll get there – I personally appreciate your willingness to let us get it out of our systems. A lot of us came here from the cold and you not only let us in you gave us cocoa and a place close to the fire. That’s great and it was needed. The battle casualties and intensity of the fighting astonished even the hardest Generals. Grant was successful because he didn’t give a damn how many died to take an objective and he knew early that he would have a nearly endless supply of troops. They never stopped the immigration ships from landing and many of the new arrivals simply were signed on to specialized units and marched off with absolutely no knowledge of what was coming. Think of the percentage of southern men who died in the war. Most people would argue that many dead would kill a lifestyle. Southern women saved the culture. When I read here about people being banned for simply posting this site as a link I knew AH was taking revenge on people. Whew.
2. I believe your being banned that last night before the announcement is somehow linked to the announcement. What you wrote that was banned is between you and HP but I was there and read the outrage from several people who are here posting daily. It was a watershed moment for me.
3. What astonished me was they would ban you while the endless mindless attacks from people who we all know well and those with 0-2 fans continued unabated. I knew you well enough that your posts, while often irritating me, were at least backed up with an opinion or facts or both. So they banned one of the conservative views who actually would argue, mostly graciously, their point.
4. I suspect her plan was simple. Once the talks with AOL started she recruited people to come in and present a contrary point of view, moving herself to the right of center, or perhaps simply coming out from where she’d be hiding all along.
5. Bringing in the snark and not curtailing it was just her way of getting back at the people who’d made her site so rich and interesting
6. I recall when she dropped the flag count. I thought or at least wondered then why that was. Perhaps she didn’t want to identify the number of times the snarkers were being flagged so when the due diligence guys reviewed the site they couldn’t see how unified the regular posters were toward these intruders.
