Do you think that they will pull what they did with HCR with finance reform? Remember, initially for HCR, there was a panel that included Republicans, and if my memory serves me correctly, most of what’s in the HIR are actually Republican ideas, and yet they all voted no! So, now they are saying they want to work with Democrats on finance reform, and they probably will, but then when it comes time for the final vote that they’ll all vote no again? Also, my husband brought up a very good point, imho, about the bailouts and TARP. If you recall when all that was going down that they forced some of the bigger banks such as Wells Fargo and Bank of America to buy some of the failed banks such as WaMu and Wachovia and Merrill Lynch, making them even bigger? And the point is that the government made the big ones even bigger and now they want to make them too big to fail? Cochise County Militia founder Bill Davis put out the word Monday that the group is planning to form a “private military company” that would volunteer its service to local landowners. Davis says the militia’s paramilitary squad would work at the landowner’s request “providing security and trespasser interdiction” and would not shy from a confrontation. He says the squad would consist largely of U.S. military combat veterans, who already comprise a significant contingent of the group Davis formed in 2001. I do not know the statistics of Mexican immigrants that come over and are criminal, and I do know that Mexican criminals do come over and I worry about the drug cartels and the violence associated with them. I do think that the majority of Mexicans that come over illegally are not here to cause trouble, but to work. The Mexicans risk their lives to come here, crossing the desert on foot without adequate water, and they are coming here to work. A couple weeks ago, a rancher near the border was killed, and officials followed tracks in and back into Mexico and they assume a Mexican walked at least 20 miles through the desert to the ranch to murder the rancher. I don’t know what to think about that story, but it has people very angry and very angry towards Mexicans. It doesn’t make sense to me that someone would walk all that way to kill someone and then walk back, but I guess it is possible. I do not know how anyone can be absolutely certain that an illegal killed that rancher. I sympathize with the Mexicans and have written before about happenings in my area concerning illegals. Just the other day when we walked with a neighbor, there were Mexicans doing yard work and I might have imagined it, but they seemed to droop their shoulders and tried not to look or stare at us. I made it a point to walk closer and smile and wave to them, and I could see the relief on their faces and the surprise as they smiled back and waved. Mexicans are human, too, and I really hate the anti-illegal fervor in my state and I don’t know what to do about it. Several religious groups of all denominations and several civil rights groups are inundating our governor with petitions and letters asking her to veto the latest bill that would require all Mexicans and probably anyone with brown skin to carry papers. It’s just wrong. And makes me wonder who will be next. Talk about more intrusive government and losing rights – well, I guess it doesn’t count if you’re not white. That’s my vent for the day! Monday it hit 96 degrees and Tuesday was hovering close to 90, and that’s not unusual, but today the high is predicted to hit 67 degrees and tomorrow it’s supposed to hit 64 degrees! How strange is that? It’s overcast and we’ve had off and on sprinkles, and we have a 30% chance of rain and even thunderstorms through Friday night! One of the laws headed to the governor would require doctors to use a vaginal probe in cases where it would provide a clearer picture of the fetus than a regular ultrasound. Doctors have said this is usually the case early in pregnancies, when most abortions are done. “You’re going to force someone to undergo an invasive medical procedure,” objected state Sen. Andrew Rice, D-Oklahoma City, who voted against the bill. “You have to invasively put an instrument inside the woman. This could be your 15-year-old daughter who was raped.” At least three states require ultrasounds before all abortions, but no other states require vaginal ultrasounds or that doctors to describe the image to women. Gordon Liddy radio show today, the attorney for Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, the Birther Army doctor who is said to be facing a court martial for refusing orders, suggested that if his client is court-martialled, he will use discovery to try to further the Birther crusade. One week ago, the military announced that Lakin is under investigation after he refused to report for a second tour in Afghanistan. Lakin believes that President Obama may not be a natural-born citizen, and therefore that military orders are invalid. Today, Lakin appeared on Liddy’s show with his attorney, identified as Paul Jensen. Jensen said that Birther litigation around the country has been dismissed because of lack of standing. He then hinted — while declining, on the advice of his “good friend” the GOP operative Roger Stone, not to publicly detail his defense plans — that he would try to use discovery to demand birth documents from Obama. “Every criminal defendant has to be allowed the benefit of the doubt to discover information that may be relevant to defend himself against charges that could land him in the penitentiary in years and years,” said Jensen. Our neighbors down the street told us a story yesterday when we ran into them. Over Easter week, they had company, and one morning during that week they saw what they thought were a bunch of dead wasps or something on their patio. They figured that they would clean up them bugs when they got home. When they got home late that afternoon, the husband opened the door to their house and said “Bees” and then instantly closed the door. They told their company to stay outside and they went in and saw a an incredible number of bees in their living room by their fireplace. They called the fire department and they refused to come out, as the bees were inside their home and the foam they use would ruin everything. So, they called numerous bee-people before they found one willing to come out. It’s the first time that anyone found swarming bees and yes they are killer bees, inside a home. The bee-people got the queen and killed all the bees, pretty much since they can’t get them all, but they estimated that there were 8,000 to 10,000 bees inside their house. Our neighbors said they had the flue closed, yet they still got in, and the bee-people said the queen got in and all her drones followed, and then they couldn’t get out. Our neighbors said that since the bees came through the fireplace that they were covered in soot and it was a mess that they are still working on cleaning up. Their rugs are toast, but fortunately they have leather furniture and could clean the soot off that and wash their tables, walls and tile floors. It cost them $1200.00 for the bee-people and their insurance refuses to cover it since it is an act of God. How freaking creepy is that? Does anyone else here have to deal with killer bees? That is an example of science gone bad, and should teach us a lesson, and I’d love to find that scientist that mated honeybees with African bees and slap him silly, but his creation actually killed him several years ago. For anyone living in areas where Africanized or killer bees reside – pull your shades at night, and do not leave lights on anywhere outside your homes, as killer bees are active at night and attracted to the light. Cover your fireplaces with fine mesh screens and all of your vents from inside your home to the outside. You cannot cover the vents for your dryers though, and I’ve actually found live scorpions in my dryer, but vacuumed them out, and then wear gloves when changing the bag as them suckers can live through anything. Oh, I just love living in the desert! I’ve read your posts in which you’ve said that the minute you find out a person is a Republican that they are no longer a part of your world. I understand that, I really do, but it’s not an easy thing for us since there’s only one other neighbor that are Democrats, but they don’t follow politics at all, and you would not believe how happy they are! Yet when we mention our political beliefs compared to our other neighbors, they are ‘Hell yeah! F’em!’ LMAO Thank Goddess that we have at least one pair of Democrats as neighbors – they were Hillary supporters but voted for Obama – plus the husband is a first generation Mexican American and his wife is part Native American – and they are awesome people. I just love how they don’t follow any politics and don’t get the blogging thing and they are so incredibly happy, even though they’ve had problems when it comes to other things in the neighborhood. It is a struggle for me and that’s why I am on a break from blogging and reading the news. I read headlines and some columns but have been making a concerted effort not to read any comments. I think all the negativity from both sides is bad for a person or it’s bad for me. I’ve been blogging since we got a PC and went online and got really into it in 2000 and for those 8 years of Bush, and now this with Obama, and I am just so burned out. Being face to face with FOX Republicans and listening to them spouting the rhetoric and seeing their hate-filled angry expressions really made an impact and upset me. I do admit that my opinion of them has dropped considerably, and these people have been very good friends for over 12 years. It all makes me so sad but my husband advises that I let it go and we go back to our golden rule of never discussing politics and he also told me that besides politics that they are still very good people, and they are – you would not believe what they’ve done for us over the years, especially when we were in France and our daughter was killed. I grew up in Detroit, and I know prejudice, and have feared for the longest time that I might even harbor racist feelings, but after last Sunday, I now know that I am not a racist bigot. I think it’s been so long since I’ve heard that kind of talk and it shocked me and saddened me and hurt me and made me think less of them. And for me to think less of anyone really bothers me, especially since these people have been our friends and good friends for so long. While we were over there, the husband showed us his latest gun and whoa, that is some gun. He frequently shows us all his weapons, and he is armed to the teeth, but he’s a hunter and competes in marksmanship competitions, so we never really felt threatened before but accepted that all those guns and all the fancy knives were his hobby. His wife is a vegan, as is their young daughter, and they both hate all the hunter-stuff and guns – but it rocked me to my core when the wife grew so angry in stating her belief about Obama being a Marxist, Muslim and he’s going take away their guns. There really was no reasoning with them and I hated how they talked down to me when I said that there is no way, no how that anyone is going to take guns away from Americans. Well, it’s happened before in other countries, dontcha know? Like I am an idiot and do not know the history of the Nazis? When they went on the rant about corporations and how the liberals, democrats and Obama demonize corporations and the wealthy, when the corporations deserve all the tax breaks and the rich shouldn’t have to pay higher taxes, I was flummoxed. My husband tried to explain outsourcing, and the wife said something about that being a lie about outsourcing to Mexico because everyone knows Mexicans are dumb! And then when it came to the mortgage crisis – well, that was my wake up call. She said that the banks lent money to everyone – the blacks and Mexicans – and they should never own homes! “They’re all on welfare and taking advantage of the system because they are lazy and do not want to work but want everything for free.” I grabbed my things, and I know my face was red from anger, and said that we were leaving. I cannot tell you how upset that entire thing was for me and my husband is an easy-going guy, and he even he was bothered, but cautions me about over-reacting and telling me that they are still our friends but we must never discuss such things again. As we were walking from their yard, I heard the wife say that we are liberals so what do you expect. Then they send an email asking us to dog/cat/fish sit for them, and of course we will do that – but sheesh – I’ve been depressed enough already and this just does not help. For some reason he did not want family to visit, even though he wasn’t all that far away, but I called the hospital and inquired if he was okay, and the nurse did tell me that the operation was over and that he was resting. I just sent an email telling him that we are all very concerned, praying for him and that he’s in our thoughts and miss him. The reply from the site said that they would deliver the message tomorrow during business hours. I hope it brings him a smile. I will call down there tomorrow, and just ask if he’s still with us – certainly they should be able to tell me that. You have fun, Khirad, and I know exactly what you mean about feeling guilty. B’ito has always told me and I think he’s even written here that he does not want pity or for anyone to feel sorry for him – but he can’t stop any of us from being worried. I just wish there was a way to find out what’s going on. » Posted By javaz On April 13, 2010 @ 5:49 pm Have a sad update about the neighbor we’ve been helping with lung cancer and she’s 70 years old, never smoked a cigarette in her life, and they had to find where the cancer started as they did not believe it was only in her lungs. They’ve discovered it’s in her kidneys and think that’s where the cancer originated, and it’s also in her breasts. Her daughter has now moved in with her, but we still walk her dog in the mornings and check on her during the day until her daughter gets home from work. That situation is not looking good at all but she will be starting chemo within the next 5 weeks. They are often duped by unscrupulous coyotes that charge them 300 dollars to bring them here, and they are driven to drop-houses throughout the valley and pretty much held prisoner.
There have been drop-house busts that have found as many as 30 people crammed in a small bedroom behind a locked door.
The coyotes have raped women under their control in some of these houses.
They live in abject poverty and all they want to do is come here to work to try to improve their lives and/or the lives of their families back in Mexico.
Local ranchers along with others are offering a huge amount of money for any leads into the case.
They will scream for awhile after the court martial verdict but they will abandon him upon sentencing.
