HAPPY HAUNTING » Posted By javaz On October 30, 2010 @ 7:19 pm B’ito, I know that you listen to NPR, and we have listened to it while up in Show Low, because it’s either the radio or watching FOX, and we got very burned out on FOX that was broadcast from the valley, so much so, that we never watch FOX anymore. We stopped watching ‘Bones’ and ‘House’ and even stopped watching their NFL show, because after 2 weeks of nothing other than FOX, we said enough. While up in Show Low and when we could dial in NPR, it was coming from Flagstaff, and there was very little news, but people wanting to sell cattle and cars or some such shit, and it was really hicksville, but they did play classical music and jazz in between. I have no idea who Juan Williams is and I think that I’m grateful. We have stopped watching all news, except for the weather report, and we do watch PBS a lot, but not the news. We love Masterpiece Theater, and really loved the newest Wallander, and we like all their cooking shows, travel shows, and Antique Roadshow and other programs that PBS airs. We don’t do cable or satellite, so we get 4 PBS stations using the HDTV box thing and we watch it all more so than anything else. But we stopped watching the “news” except for the weather reports, and really, the weather people get it more wrong than right, but then I did an article on here months ago and learned a lot. It’s very hard to predict weather as they can only predict it in ten minute time frames. Now, I forget why I have even written what I’ve written, and I am too lazy to scroll back up and see what it was I was replying to! The husband is bringing out the guitars, and we’ve been learning more songs and having a blast, even though our neighbors might not think so! We would never want to live there, due to the winters, because we are desert-rats, but Montana is incredibly beautiful. We drove from Yellowstone into Montana, and my husband is a fisherman, and the fly-fishing to Bozeman and the scenery is breathtaking. Glacier National Park – well, we can definitely understand the reason that that is your favorite place to hike, even though I do wonder at your bravery in hiking alone and your seemingly lack of fear of bears. We travel a LOT, and every state has beauty, but Montana truly is something with all the reservations, and lazy drinking laws while driving, and casinos everywhere. But didn’t you see the ads on your TV asking congress to keep broadcast TV free last year? If Murdoch had his way, we’d have to pay for online “news” and broadcast TV, and then you must know, right? That the BBC is in danger due to Murdoch and PM Cameron in the UK? The Brits are outraged and they knew Murdoch before we did and we need Marion to write about that, but it appears that Murdoch is winning in the UK and that is not going to bode well for any of us. What it is going to mean here, and not all that far in the future, is that people who do not buy cable or satellite, but have them HD boxes or televisions that can get HDTV, is that we are all going to have to pay to watch television. The Brits are outraged, and they warned us about Murdoch as did the Australians, because Murdoch is Australian, but it was with the help of Newt Gingrich that Murdoch became an American citizen way back then, and Murdoch has 4 passports – Australian, United Kingdom, American and Saudi Arabian. There’s a fight now with 2 cable companies – The Dish Network and Cablevision – and they are no longer showing FOX stations, except for FOX news – because it would require the companies to double their rates to show FOX stations. Murdoch, imho, is evil, and if he ever gets to the point, and he might, that we have to pay to watch broadcast TV, well, we’ll find something else to do. Ginny wants an apology for her husband’s harassment against Anita Hill? And then Ginny says that she was offering Ms. Hill an olive branch, while at the same time, calling her a liar? The right-wing is raging about Ms. Hill turning it over to security at Brandeis University and then them turning it over to the FBI, but any sane person, and most important, is any woman that has been sexually harassed, and threatened, Ms. Hill did exactly the correct thing. Can you imagine the death threats and harassment that Ms. Hill tolerated during the hearings, and then 19 years later, the man that came onto you, his wife leaves a message, asking you – the victim – to apologize for lying – and then frames it as an olive branch for peace? Anita Hill is being harassed again, and thrown back into the limelight again, and it is wrong. Thomas sexually harassed other women, and they were not allowed to come forward during the hearing. Anita Hill had received death threats and was harassed, but she went beyond it and became a private citizen and it was all forgotten, until Ginny called her. Went to sit out on our patio, since it’s pleasant and we have a little dog and the minute we opened the door, and the dog ran out, we heard the rattler. We screamed at the dog and thank God, he ran back into the house and then we saw the curled snake with it’s tail raised and rattling and we’ve lived here 13 years and have only seen one other diamondback, but it was a baby. This sucker was at least 5 feet long and we called a neighbor that we know who owns guns and is a hunter, but he’s off hunting. Okay, I am a liberal, but own 2 guns – a .22 and shotgun – and then my husband owns a hunting rifle, so anyway, my husband got down my .22 and he shot three shots at the sucker, but it got away. LOL I was freaking and was thinking that someone might call the sheriff because we discharged a firearm, but really a .22 was enough to scare a snake, but made less noise than a firecracker. And another funny thing, was that while my husband was running for the gun, I was running for the camera! It’s not a good thing that the snake got away, and believe me, I actually love snakes and am not afraid of them at all, but when it comes to rattle snakes and diamondbacks, they scare the hell out of me. But, the Arizona Republic last Sunday did an entire section about Glenn Beck and my gosh, why anyone pays attention to Glenn Beck and his rodeo clown show, but there you have it and this is what we’ve been reduced to. Oh God, we are in trouble as a country, are we not? And then last night, we were able to pick up PBS News Hour and they did a segment on Sarah Palin, as though Sarah Palin is worthy and competent to run for President in 2012. Goddammit. Is this what our country has come to? I think, sadly, YES. Look at Arizona alone, whereby the bellwether issue is immigration. While in Fool Hollow in Show Low, we met 2 older men, and 2 very different men, and this is exactly what I love about traveling. They were both Republicans, and yet while fishing whereby there was no anger, they got it about it all, yet, sadly, they are still Republicans. They both got the immigration thing, and the Dream Act, and neither my husband nor I brought it up nor did we share our opinions, but we listened to them and agreed with them by simply nodding our heads. They brought up the destruction of the middle class, and had 2 different points of view, and it was enlightening to witness 2 older men, two Republicans, stating their beliefs in such a calm fashion, and their views on politics. One of the men was a biblical scholar who had lived the majority of his life in Southern Mexico, and the other was a retiree from CAP and had lived in Show Low for most of his life, but moved down to Tucson once his kids decided to go college there. This is exactly why my husband and I love to travel, whether it’s here in the states or abroad. It’s the people we meet, and yeah sure, it’s the sites we see, but it really is the people we meet. We were shocked that they were working on a holiday weekend. I’ve got to tell you a about an anger management lapse when it comes to me and one of our neighbors and I’ll be shocked if we ever hear from that guy again. Damn, I really messed up, and my husband is very easy going, and he always supports me, but he also tells me to just let it go, and I’m not really very good at that. There’s the neighbor that works for the state and we walk with him and his dogs on Saturdays and Mondays, and he’s not a bad guy but he’s irritating. He’s one of them “End Of Times” born again Christians and I have always been fairly good at ignoring his bullshit, until recently. It was when the mosque in New York came up that I blew and lost my temper big time, and God bless my husband for remaining quiet, even though he agreed with me, but dr’graz is far more diplomatic and I respect that. Dean listens to Christian radio all day long, and he can quote the bible better than anyone I’ve ever known. I do not care about the topic of conversation, Dean can quote the bible and tell us that we are in the “End of Times.” He’s supposedly a Democrat and hates Brewer for the SB1070, and believing that she is going to hell for that. The Brewer supporters believe that the “liberals” and “liberal media” are ‘picking’ on Brewer and it was the consensus of the panel that all the hoopla by the left concerning Brewer is making Brewer supporters dig their heels in more in supporting her. They all agreed that if the roles were reversed and had it been a Democratic woman that the Republican conversation would have an entirely different tone. Also, it was mentioned that the DNC is not supporting Goddard in anyway because they believe he will lose and do not want to waste the money in Arizona to support Democratic candidates. Romley’s hands were not clean to begin with, and I was always against him when he was in office – he is a Republican after all – but I was so hoping that he would win county attorney general because he’s never been a “friend to Joe.” As far as I can find, Thomas is not conceding the race for State Attorney General, but Horne is just as bad when it comes to anti-Mexican, but the only saving grace from Horne is that he is an enemy of Joe’s. Last Sunday, the Arizona Republic had a section about the loss of registered voters and both parties were hit hard, but the Democrats took the biggest hit from losing voters to Independent. That’s my prediction and with Montgomery being Maricopa County’s attorney general, Sheriff Joe will have a complete and total reign of terror. But why aren’t the corporations ‘bailed-out’ hiring back workers? It’s because they are outsourcing the good paying jobs and by good paying jobs, I am talking engineers. The wage that assembly workers make now has been drastically cut, as have their benefits. Remember the lie about assembly workers making the equivalent of 75+ per hour? That was never true, but the assembly worker that made 22 dollars per hour is now 12 per hour and that’s much reduced due to health benefits. I’d like to take MY “country back” to the days when workers were given a living-wage, full health care coverage, and time off for vacations. And now we’re facing reductions or restrictions when it comes to Social Security and Medicare and that should scare the pants off of Boomers and yet, we’ve all been so dumbed down. Thank God for AARP, for all their flaws, they do fight for the system that has been in existence for years and that we all have paid into. If the Tea Party people get their way – we are so going to lose our way of life when we get older. Our 401Ks and retirement funds no longer exist. The Tea Party folks believe that we should all rely on ‘charity’ to supplement our incomes in retirement. And that brings me to another thing – Warren Buffet and Bill Gates and their pledge but that’s another story. I feel another article coming on – but have been holding off for several reasons. I always want to believe that good wins over evil, but in reality we all know that that is not the case. Look no further than the Iraq invasion, which was based on lies, and no one is held accountable for that. Sheriff Joe’s corruption is much less compared to the Iraq lies, but the corruption is rampant in our government and, well, it just gets to me because I feel so powerless. How do we combat FOX noise, which no longer tries to pretend to be ‘fair and balanced’ but is now RIGHT in your face and an arm of the Republican Party? 8.3 million people watch FOX, and they believe every single thing from Murdoch’s NewsCorp and Clear Channel. There has to be a way to combat this bullshit and yes, we have online sites such as the Planet and Media Matters et all, but we cannot compete with Murdoch. The Arizona Republic has started something new – a fact-check section – but since they write the truth when it comes to Sheriff Joe, readers reject it and accuse the newspaper of being “liberal”. Whereby the Trib in the valley used to be the ‘liberal’ voice somewhat, but they have gone totally right-wing. I read the Internet and many sites and the anger from the left is out there, but we don’t have a voice when it comes to the media – the actual media. No one ever mentions the outsourcing to Mexico and to Mexican workers and I mean good paying jobs – engineering – to Mexico. People are so outraged over illegals coming here and taking the low paying jobs such as dishwashers, car washers, landscapers, etc, that they ignore corporations sending good paying jobs to Mexico. It’s been happening since the mid-70’s. And then more recently where my husband and I worked in the valley and the corporation not only brought India people in for us to train, but they brought in Mexicans for us to train to do our jobs. The majority of drafting jobs is now done in Mexico and the engineering is done in India. And to think the American workers were forced to train these people to do their jobs. NAFTA. This is an O/T on your O/T – Had an incredible monsoon last Tuesday that knocked out our power several times and we lost our phones! Got over 2 inches of rain in less than a half-hour and it was awesome. Our roads washed out, as normal, during heavy rain and we were able to get out today and our phones are restored – for now. They cannot tell us when our power will go out or for how long and we are to expect this for the next 6-8 weeks and they are sorry for any inconvenience. We saw the trucks in our area this morning on our walk and my husband thinks that they will cut off our power during the day when people are at work. Really? Couldn’t they have done these much needed improvements during the winter months? Or even the early spring? What a pain in the arse to have to reset all the clocks! My brother that died last December – him and his partner in California got some sort of legal certificate, even though they did not marry, but when my brother died, his partner was legally considered his partner or heir or something. If they do cut our power for too long on miserable days, we’ll take the dog to Petsmart or go on air conditioned drives or even visit my in-laws in Tempe and Scottsdale!
