OK – I DO have and always have had a major beef with guys I knew who found cushy defense contractor jobs or some other reason to stay out AND dissed those who resisted and promoted the war vigorously.

In other words – Chickenhawks.

Anyone who went – thank you. Anyone who resisted – thank you, too.

Anyone who scuttled but pushed others to go and die? Eff you. You learned and gave NOTHING, and I cannot forgive you the loss of anyone who went in your stead.

I’m so sorry the impact of Vietnam is still with you. I have friends in the same boat, and it was an experience we should never have thrust upon you.

Yup. Mr. Calderon resigned before this happened. He knew, when the FBI raided his files, that the jig was up. I know none of the details save that a couple of other Senators apparently gave him LEGAL money that may be misconstrued.

Big freaking mess. I know the US Attorney here – he’d not have done this without a really good reason, so I’m thinking the Calderon family dynasty is toast.

The others who did what is legal but that may in public look not so good, will definitely impact the succession issue on President pro Tem of the Senate. The leading candidate was one of those people. He did nothing wrong – but in a world that looks at ALL money transfers as questionable, he may be irreversibly harmed. Too bad, too – he is a pretty good guy. However it opens up the very REAL possibility that the next President pro Tem may be a Black woman whom I LOVE. We will wait to see.

But the Calderons are pretty much done. They weren’t the worst. They weren’t the best. So in a world of politics, their loss is most hurtful to the Latino community where they were respected.

Sad day for all concerned. But he should have known and done much, much better.

Let’s change this analysis – it’s NOT an ‘entitlement’. It is MY savings account. I put MY money into mine, you put YOUR money into yours. Medicaid is what we do for those who have scant resources – and it’s pretty much decimated already in Red states – and is not charity but justice for those whom the private sector has abandoned or cannot help.

It is NOT an entitlement. It is our life savings. No one has the right to monkey with that.

Cruz is picking up the anointed status from Sister Sarah who has embraced him entirely. I’m not surprised Perry seems to have distanced himself from Cruz – remember it was PERRY who was anointed in front of enormous (sorry – not) audiences as the Second Coming in the summer of 2012. And you can see how well THAT worked.

These people have no idea how much damage they do to themselves declaring they are God’s Chosen (an you’re NOT, neener neener) Americans do not sit easily with that kind of arrogance. Hence – let them spew. Their day of glory is over, and God has said NO. Along with most of America.

I’ve been watching the deterioration of critical thought for over 20 years. I chalked it up to limited exposure on my part – just the pudnuts I was dealing with personally – but nope. It’s everywhere. It chills me to the bone to see it now in major news “analysis” as well as casual conversation.

Not overly fond of Karl Marx, he did make one observation that needs reflection: History repeats itself. The first time for tragedy, the second time for farce.

Only problem – we’re not laughing…

This morning Kathleen Parker tore strips off PBO saying he could have used his power to keep monuments open.

Oh?

Now she embraces selective enforcement of the law?

Well that’s perfect – if he could do that, he can re-fund TANF, Head Start, education, veterans benefits beyond the mandated ones, reopen base commissaries, food stamps, the EPA, FDA- any old thing that is in the public interest.

That 8 million figure is over half of the hardcore longtime uninsured! That’s about 15 million.

One woman who is disabled and on very limited income was paying $1400 per month for her policy. Her state exchange (Oregon I think) will charge her $58 per month. Yes – that is NOT a typo. She is going from $1400 to $58. THAT is why the Baggers hate this so much. Even those in need can afford health care – violates their notions of their being “The Elect” who get everything while we unworthy types get nothing.

Nirek – I do not have a basic problem with people who are truly devoted to public service. Term limits are a recipe for MORE graft since you have to shovel it in with both hands over a shorter term. Those such as Biden and Kennedy who devoted their lives to creating programs and policies for us were a huge gift – limits just thwart our ability to vote IN whom we wish to keep.

We need far greater changes to finance laws and lobbying portals for those leaving. But to limit terms is to lose ALL institutional memory, perspective, wisdom right along with everything we don’t like.

Voting. The best method of term limitation EVER.

Over on Twitter someone had a lovely poster: top half Red with Boehner et al. – They shut down the government. Bottom half is blue with PBO et al – They gave millions health care.

Latest figure – EIGHT MILLION PEOPLE went to http://www.healthcare.gov today, and several hundred thousand just to the CA site.

So who’s sorry now? LOL!!!

I heard him in person a few months ago – man is fluid, articulate, and an empty suit on economic justice issues. Sorry I cannot be a fan, but he has griped me with his glib dismissal of industry and unions for years. He also has become an Emo, and the fact he responded so well means MAYBE he is becoming more mature in his reflections! Brava kes!

I imagine so, but I cannot determine how it shifted Putin because frankly it was no threat to Russia. Bomb missile delivery sites? Russia sells Assad more. There seem to be rather a large number of other things going on here we have yet to discover. All of them good, though – having Putin back inside the international community? Priceless.

Given the remarkable change with Putin now intervening, I suspect the pudnuts and Emos will try to say Putin is better than PBO. But Putin was open about this coming FROM the President and before any vote ‘discredited’ Obama. The president made it clear that peaceful resolution was the preferred way. Anyone disregarding that is doing so by choice simply to perpetuate Obama Derangement Syndrome.

President Obama secured Russian cooperation in moving Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control for destruction. Syria’s Foreign Minister welcomes the demand from Putin. Before a vote EVER has occurred, President Obama moved Putin back into the international community to cooperate, thereby removing the threat of military action which was NOT the goal. Diplomacy was always the best and most desired option. The President did that.

Montravius King, the student in North Carolina who wishes to run for city council in his town where he goes to college, WON HIS CASE before a state elections panel that was 3-2 GOP.

THAT brought tears to my eyes – the PERFECT outcome after the 50th March on Washington!!!! He is today’s Civil Rights hero for sticking up for both the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act. Bravo!

We have the same though they tend, as with Tim McVeigh, NOT to be so self sacrificing as to blow themselves up. Our legacy of genocide and violence is every bit as gory as anyone else’s. We rival the Brits and Spanish for detestable acts against other people in the quest for imperial power. Reading our history of something such as Vietnam where civilian exterminations were NOT confined to My Lai is to know we are no different.

We have long justified our own horrors perpetrated against other people by saying they don’t care about life as we do. Developed nations have made huge strides domestically – we have the material resources to do so – but we don’t always understand that violence abroad is engendered almost entirely by desperation we often have created. “We” being not just the U.S. but those collective and individual developed nations. As with Afghanistan, Syria is NOT an historic nation – we created it with the Treaty of Versailles. The problems pressed on from that cobbling together of national boundaries and peoples who had and still have no say, whose leaders are not of their own choosing.

Violence and sectarian civil warfare have come, as in Northern Ireland, from people desperately competing for scarce resources – and our perpetuation of that scarcity as we control the winners and losers.

It saddens me when we think they are different from us. They are not. They desperately love and want to have hope for their families. They stand pretty much where we did in 1860, and our willingness to brutalize one another was entirely evident for those four horrific years. The causes and consequences are much the same.

I think we value life no more or less than in other cultures. It’s just different based on our capacity to protect people. We don’t do a very good job of it, frankly. Our prisons teem with people who are abused as children, have horrid mental problems, and whom we have thrown away. In cultures of war, grief for loved ones is profound – but there is a fatalism that comes from long and horrific experience with death and the total lack of safety ever. After the horrors of Serbian genocidal aggression, women of ALL backgrounds gathered in Sarajevo and other cities to hammer out a “Women’s Bill of Rights.” Chief among the essential rights was “I have the right to sleep”. Women in this nation – sex slaves, abused wives, homeless women all share this lack of concern for their well being and the inability to take that for granted. They cannot. I don’t think anyone values life less or more – I think they are resigned to horrific circumstances they would change if they could. We have been and done the same with the people we throw away. Tyrants exist in every nation – national ones and petty ones. Our work is to end that wherever it may be.
