Displaying 3,391 To 3,420 Of 16,275 Comments KT, I do know a few Vets here and there is a good sized VA medical center and a few satellite clinics around town (Tucson has a large AFB and many military retirees) and they do have their complaints, but any mention of changing it brings out the “soldier” in them. There was a plan years ago that I thought was a pretty good idea and that was that Vets could show their card at any clinic/hospital, receive service, and the VA would pay for it but the veterans were strongly against it. The main argument I heard was if they opened it to private care it would open it to privatization later. How many billions would Medicare save if they could buy prescriptions the same as the VA? At one time I knew and was friends with many Public Defenders (yes, that’s where a majority of these cases end up to defend) from around the country and their cases weren’t celebrity status, they were scout leaders, uncles, grandfathers, live in boyfriends and the biggest one, “youth ministers” and “ministers” of small independent religious groups/ churches. I met a few PD’s that they had been handling these cases of “kiddly-diddlers” (their words) for years, it became their specialty, sad but true. Their names were “Pete Jones” and “Fred Smith” not Sandusky or Joe Paterno, they were/are your neighbor, your co-worker.
Don’t be shocked, become aware. Talk to your children, the kid you mows your lawn, or the pesky kid, the shy girl next door.

They did the same thing with the CHIP money for years, they sent money back to DC instead of covering children’s medical needs. In fact, they made it illegal for schools and other social services to let children and the families even know that the CHIP’s program was even available and then said “well, no one is applying for it, so we don’t need no Federal dollars.”
