I never expected Obama to be anything other than center left, and that’s exactly what he turned out to be, (except that the definition of left generally moved a lot to the center – but this seems to me to be the media’s a rightwingers’ work, not Obamas alleged bad intentions.) He is not center right and he’s neither a sellout, a turncoat, a bad negotiator, a spineless leader or whatever meme the professional left or right choses to circle around. He is a shrewd politician, of course, and yes, sure enough he’s positioning himself to get reelected. For why? You can have a look at how busy Republicans suddenly got in dismantling everything this great man has done. I do think he wants to hinder them and his intention is to do more good for the American people (as undeserved as you are imo!) To me it’s really barely understandable how Americans can finally have a fine President – not a perfect one, but one that has done a lot of good so far, steering America back to safety from the brink of disaster – and all you can do is mistrust him, doubt him, erode him and fall in his back. I really, really, REALLY think you have NOT deserved him. Every European country would be more than happy to have him for President, and you are tumbling over yourselves to see the worst in him, and bring him down, both left and right. YIKES! Again I feel the need to repost funksands’ post: βThe President must be greater than anyone else, but not better than anyone else. We subject him and his family to close and constant scrutiny and denounce them for things that we ourselves do every day. A Presidential slip of the tongue, a slight error in judgment β social, political, or ethical β can raise a storm of protest. John Steinbeck β America and Americans (1966) I’m not posting any more than this concerning that subject, I get really angry. But I find it so utterly sad how false memes from the left and the right start to seep in, even into utterly thoughtful and intelligent people. π π π ***Edit: OH, except for this: instead of reading worthless crap and getting depressed, why don’t you become active and become the change you want to see in your country? » Posted By Truth On April 13, 2011 @ 9:12 am Excellent collection, Cher, as usual. Especially interesting to me: the lawsuit against Huff and even more the article about “The Opportunity Agenda” (We can’t Win the Fight if We Can’t Tell the Story). This is exactly the kind of initiative I was looking for for a long time! As to the Huff, someone sent me the direct link to the initiative of the one who sues: Why I’m Suing Arianna Huffington et al–And How YOU Can Help http://www.workinglife.org/blogs/view_post.php?content_id=15151 And it’s of course laughable what Huff has on their main about the lawsuit against them (but as opposed to the AH Blackberry story, it appears at all….) ***Edit: and how soothing, the GNOP’s numbers tanking and they are finally seen as the extremists they are! (What took them so long to recognize this… but better late than never!) —-And WOW! The moveon, org ad with the people who fast to protest the budget is extremely impressive. » Posted By Truth On April 13, 2011 @ 8:47 am I think it would find a lot more supporters with that title… not sure though if the main goal would ever be achieved π » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 10:22 am BDM: how about YOU? Start a series on The Planet, convince GROW or Bernie Sanders or whoever to take on this issue. Explore it and give it space. Find people to work on that on a larger scale…. if there really is nobody working on it yet? Many people are aware that CFR is what should happen! The same should happen with the media/Fairness Doctrine issue. Currently I am still on the other project (Emerald), but if someone of you started the media project I’d be on board to support. CFR too, if I’d find something I could contribute. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 10:20 am What exactly should the President do then? Today seems to be a day where lots of people forgot what President Obama has accomplished in two years and that it’ s much more than most Presidents accomplished in 4 or even 8 years. No, I’m not happy with everything he decided. If I were President, I would do a lot of things differently. But then, I would have all those briefings and might realize that I’m not all that free to do whatever I see fit. Even if it may anger some people, I think it’s time for a small visual journey: How would things look like if Hillary Clinton were in office? Not much different, exactly, except the complaints would be directed at her and her husband instead of President Obama. Then we come to the horror section: How would America and the world look like with McCain and Palin at the helm? Following their rhetoric you would be seen “winning” in Iraq and Afghanistan, have started a war in Iran and another in Egypt plus one in Lybia – the economy in shambles……….. and so on But sure enough this would be so much better! For you REALLY did have Bernie Sanders as an alternative (I don’t object should he become electable). And sorry again, I HAVE to repost funksands’ recent comment once more: βThe President must be greater than anyone else, but not better than anyone else. We subject him and his family to close and constant scrutiny and denounce them for things that we ourselves do every day. A Presidential slip of the tongue, a slight error in judgment β social, political, or ethical β can raise a storm of protest. In fact, these thoughts (or rather: memes) never even crossed my mind. As of now I conclude that even on this issue we have more in common than not and I’m looking forward to further debates when the occasion arises. » Posted By Truth On April 13, 2011 @ 12:55 am I know! I thought they would have understood by now, but no – not sure if even this effort has to come from grassroots level. IMO it should come from the DNC and WH though. » Posted By Truth On April 13, 2011 @ 12:46 am Whats, of course everyone can engage in any discussion without being actively engaged in the process. To a certain degree this is good and necessary. Yet my point is, what is the use of a million or more people commenting on a coach’s decision? Does it change the game? I was talking about the trend I see and my conclusions what would be the solution – not about you in particular. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 8:15 pm “In this day and age, market research has become a glittering gem of science. I’d like to know more about this subject. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 7:06 pm Considering that the RW has a very well oiled and sophisticated propaganda machine the President – and the Dems for that matter – really have to create a counterweight to that. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 7:03 pm Whats, that’s obviously what I meant, I didn’t express myself accurately. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 7:00 pm Possible that he should have included at least Krugmann. But then Obama positioned himself as a centrist from the beginning – and was called a socialist etc anyway by the RW propaganda machine. So what do I know what the smart move would have been? Moreover I think I take the stance of extreme Obama supporter as a counterweight to what I’m seeing. There are enough people criticizing the President and I simply don’t see yielding that any good results. Disagree: fine, but then go grassroots and organize some movement from the bottom to push him to the direction you want. Constant bickering won’t cut it. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 6:58 pm Yes – and as we know unfortunately Grayson was even voted out » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 6:35 pm Whatsie, I am more disappointed in Krugmann et al than in Obama. What could they do to SUPPORT his presidency? But then after all, they want to keep their jobs. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 10:57 am I hear you BDM – but the good thing is, he wins in a way that they don’t even realize they were outwitted – again. Not that there were no painful cuts or concessions, but “caving” seems to be a wrong meme of the left. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 10:53 am AdLib, you’re right on the money. I think he is very much positioning himself for reelection – and playing the rethugs as good as he can – see your post above, how he makes them feel they got a huge victory while he’s offering as little as possible. Thanks for sharing your insights, they are greatly appreciated. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 10:48 am π » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 10:42 am Excellent! Thank you AdLib! » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 10:29 am e’cat, agreed with the Fairness Doctrine, but it’s not only Fox, but corporate media at large in my opinion. Of course Fox Lies lowers the standard of what is acceptable or not considerably, so it may be a good thing to clip them first. Ah the outrage it would create! Imagine – “free speech” getting muzzled…! As if lying and free speech were the same. » Posted By Truth On April 12, 2011 @ 9:27 am Ah whats! – we’re getting close to the issue where we disagree – good. The question with the alternative is not an apology though. I truly wonder about all that bickering, when there really was and is nobody even remotely better than Obama. The question to me is: how much does it help to criticize him, especially if public figures do? Does every move of his have to be dismantled, because he should have done this and that and the opposite? ***Edit: I found it. And sadly, it rings very true for me as an outsider. βThe President must be greater than anyone else, but not better than anyone else. I know one thing though: Obama is a pretty good politician, and I am not. I have a set of ideas which I may find good, but never see the light of day. He on the other hand is able to implement quite a bit under these very difficult circumstances. I could never have achieved that, and I don’t think many of the armchair Presidents could have. Criticizing is easy, creating is hard, as you certainly know from your own work.
And I don’t think Obama went against his core principles implementing all that he has done. However I DO think the “weak leader”, “spineless” and “bad negotiator” meme has gotten hold – especially amongst the Left. And honestly I fear that you jumped on that band wagon too.
Kucinich ousted himself with his olive pit and his call for impeachment recently. Herewith he’s a self-made persona non -grata….
He did the same thing during the campaign when we all “knew” what he should do to win – and each time he came out swinging (following his own advice, of course).
He is even clever enough not to let them know that he outwitted them again! π

Is it not enough that the Republicans talk lousy about him? The John Steinbeck quote that someone recently posted here comes to mind. —–something: we even have the right to destroy him.
I hope I re-find that quote.
