I for one am not willing, especially not if there are much better and safer options available. The problem seems to be that they are less profitable for a few already very rich people and are therefore not promoted. I hate that nuclear energy is sold cheap, it should be so expensive that nobody wants to buy it. But then the atomic power lobby must resort to some of those tricks that Rachel Maddow explained on yesterday’s Daily Planet videos. I wrote her another mail, telling that I didn’t think so and hope very much she’ll be back soon. But so far she didn’t return. Maybe she’s on Huff sometimes? No idea. Probably chasethis may know more.
But I was shocked when I realized there were not only 2 or 3, but 54 nuke plants in that tiny country, which heightens the risk of an accident already through the sheer number of them and through the vicinity to the population. Currently it’s 30% of the entire energy coverage, and in 2017 even 41% is supposed to stem from atomic power in Japan.
Then understanding that Japan moreover is prone to earth quakes, I really shake my head in disbelief. No amount of sophisticated earthquake-adjusted technology could convince me that it is a good idea to build ANY nuke plants there.
And I definitely don’t think it’s a good idea to build nuclear plants in an earthquake zone, however sophisticated the technology may be. As it shows now, they were not (and maybe couldn’t be) prepared for a quake and a tsunami of that magnitude. Although I do think that the cooling systems should have had more backups, considering what can and might happen if they are not sufficient to cool down the system in order to prevent another Chernobyl.
Sorry, I hadn’t seen the video you posted yesterday, will go back to that part of the thread later on.
How extremely stupid of Japan to rely mainly on nuclear power while being a well known earthquake region. OMG!!!

I think I resort to prayers now, that would be the best thing I can do in this situation.
