Nothing will be done to stop trump unless Democrats are able to take the government back. Republicans will only say everyone in the executive branch serves at the pleasure of the president. They are correct related to political appointees, but not related to career federal employees. There are laws governing the termination of federal employees.

Granted, Romney did not take as much of a risk as did people like Doug Jones and Joe Manchin, but for a republican in the era of trump, I appreciate his action. That fact that trump can’t touch him actually makes it a little sweet to me.

Yes. An undeclared voter may vote in a state primary or a presidential primary. You will be required to choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot when you go to vote. The last day a registered voter can change their party affiliation before the 2020 presidential primary is October 25, 2019. Supervisors of the checklist are required to meet on that day at least between 7:00-7:30 p.m. to accept party changes.

Democrats and those who lean Democratic should be very leery of polls in states that have open primaries. Trump and other republicans will do ANYTHING to retain power in 2020, including voting in primaries for people they think will more likely to lose to trump in the general. Trump knows that if he doesn’t stay in office, his ass is grass, and congressional republicans know the same thing.

Polls for the New Hampshire Democratic presidential primary show Sanders and Buttigieg in first and second. These are probably the two people trump’s klan think they can beat. Of course the delegate count in NH won’t determine who the nominee will be, but the winner could gain some momentum going into states that COULD determine who the nominee will be.

Iowa has been caucusing in the primary season for over 100 years. This is the first time they have use a app to report results. When you consider over 4,000 delegates to be allocated in the primaries, 41 delegates allocated to four candidates is not a big deal. So the winner didn’t get the customary momentum going into NH. Since neither IA or NH is representative of the Democratic Party, I doubt if the winner of those two states will necessarily have a significant impact on the final outcome of the nomination. I think reporting issue is just something for the press to occupy themselves with until something else comes along.

I don’t think anything helps trump. The idiots who are going to vote for trump are going to vote for him no matter what. If the rest of us do our jobs, there isn’t enough of them to win.

It has been a VERY long time since I have said anything positive about a Republican. Mitt Romney’s speech before the Senate in the impeachment trial of Donald John Trump has given me an appreciation for him. Not because he agrees with me, but because he honored his oath to do impartial justice. I sensed that this was hard for Romney to vote to remove a president of his party from office. Given the same circumstances, I think I would have made the same decision Romney made, and put my conscience and the Constitution above my party.

I suspect there will be many times I will disagree with Romney in the future, but I will from this day, have great respect for his integrity.

The Iowa caucuses have a reporting problem. This is not nearly as big of a deal as the press is making it. Iowa is not representative of the Democratic Party. When the general election comes around, Iowa will vote just like everyone else, so whatever reporting method they have used in past, will be used in November. MAYBE this will be a wake-up call to political parties to have a national election for primaries, just like they do for the general election.

Super Tuesday is a mini-national primary election. Why not expand it to at least regional elections?

Murkowski is part of the problem, not the solution. She criticizes her fellow senators for doing exactly the same thing she did. The Senate is not supposed to be political when they are doing “impartial justice”. The Senate failed, Senator Murkowski, BECAUSE YOU FAILED.

Notice the difference in the how House Managers address the Senate compared to how trump’s legal team addresses the Senate. House Managers appeal to the senators to consider this, that or the other. On the other hand, trump’s counsel tells senators what they can or can’t consider or do.

Trump’s counsel already told the House that although the Constitution says they have the sole right to impeach, they can only do it if the president approves it. Now, they are telling the Senate that they can’t allow the chief justice, the presiding officer, to rule on witnesses and evidence because if trump disagrees with it, it would have to go before the court. Of course this ignores the fact that the Senate has the sole right to try an impeachment, and the court has no jurisdiction in an impeachment or and impeachment trial, EXCEPT the chief justice presiding over the trial.

Of course none of this matters because McConnell has already agreed to do whatever trump wants him to do. So trump’s counsel can present any kind of bogus argument they wish, and the republicans will go along with it.

I see that some pundits on MSNBC are trying to blame Alan Dershowitz for republican senators not voting to have witnesses and probably voting to acquit trump. Dershowitz says he did not say a president can do whatever he wants and cannot be impeached, although I have to admit that is what I thought he said. But at the end of the day, senators, most of whom have law degrees, are responsible for removing a criminal president from office.

Republicans have chosen trump over the USA. That is their right, as un-American as it is. The rest of us just have to put on our big boy and big girl pants, and take back our government from Americans who favor an autocratic government over a democratic government.

One wonders where are the militiamen who think the Second Amendment is for the purpose of violently overthrowing a tyrannical government. I suppose that depends on what you think a tyrannical government is. In the case of trumpism, the militiamen are on the side of the tyrannical government.

Maybe Lamar Alexander doesn’t think impeachment should even be in the Constitution. He apparently thinks voters should elect a president who has good character, so they won’t have to confront impeaching a president.

IMHO anyone in a federal elected office should endeavor to protect and defend the Constitution. In fact, they take an oath to that effect.

Capping Medicaid is a very minor infraction compared to what trump is capable of doing between now and November.

Donald trump essentially just shot at least 66 million Americans, not in the middle of Fifth Avenue, but on Capitol Hill, and his poll numbers went up with at least 63 million Americans.

Alexander said yes, House Democrats proved by presenting a mountain of evidence that trump attempted to extort the Ukrainian government by withholding military aid to them in order to persuade them to announce an investigation of Joe Biden, but that’s okay. Alexander doesn’t need to see or hear anymore evidence, and he will vote against the American people seeing or hearing anymore evidence, at least as part of a Senate impeachment trial.

Does it really matter what Collins, Murkowski and Romney say? Even they are not going to vote to convict. Let alone the twenty republicans required to convict trump. Tonight the USA became a banana republic. Actually, it happened on January 20, 2017, but now there is no question about it. The rule of law is dead in the USA. The head is dead and it won’t be long before the tail dies as well.

House Mangers need to take this last day of questions from the Senate to explain to the American people, NOT THE REPUBLICAN SENATORS, BUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, why the framers chose the Senate as the court for impeachment, the almost SOLE purpose of which was because of impartiality and independence from politics, and that indeed in the Johnson impeachment, because of that impartiality Johnson only escaped removal from office by ONE VOTE.

So before the Seventeenth Amendment, the Senate was indeed impartial. However today, the Majority Leader has PUBLICLY stated BEFORE the trial started that there would be no room between the position of the president and that of republicans in the Senate, YET they all took the oath to do impartial justice.

They should close by admonishing the American people that the House has done their job in holding the president accountable to the people, the Constitution and the rule of law, while republicans have chosen trump over the people, the Constitution and the rule of law. NOW, it is up to the people to do their part.

The intent of the framers of the Constitution related to the “court” for impeachment has been discussed and indeed distorted by learned members of Congress, counsel for the president, and the legal profession during the impeachment of trump. The Federalist Papers are often used to explain what the framers of the Constitution actually debated in the process of settling on the actual language included in the Constitution.

Hamilton was the first secretary of state. Madison was the fourth president of the United States. John Jay was the first chief justice of the Supreme Court. These were authors of The Federalist Papers. Hamilton wrote Federalist 65, 66 and 69 which dealt with impeachment.

In Federalist 65 Hamilton explained why the Senate was chosen as the court for impeachment, not only for the president but all executives of the federal government. The primary reason the Senate was chosen was because of their independence from politics. Hamilton did not mention why senators where independent of politics, but the underlying reason is because they were not elected, but rather appointed by state legislatures. Today, the Senate does not have the degree of independence that persuaded the framers of the Constitution to conclude this body was independent of politics, because since 1913 members of the Senate are elected by the people just as members of House and the president are. This makes the Senate just as political as the House and the president. Therefore today, impeachment is almost entirely a purely political process with a total disregard for facts.

Although the Constitution does not specifically say the president is not above the law, the fact that Congress is granted oversight of the executive branch of the government and that Congress is given the sole power to impeach and convict and remove a president from office, those provisions of the Constitutions dictates that the president is not above the law and indeed CANNOT do whatever he wants, in spite of what trump and congressional republicans and Alan Dershowitz believe.

6: The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Unfortunately, he was elected by the people of the UK, just as trump was SUPPOSEDLY elected by the American people. I always say that in a democratic form of government, politicians don’t win or lose elections; voters do.

The current discussion among political pundits in the U.S. is that Biden or some other candidate or even trump can do this, that or the other to win the election. The reality is that whoever gets the most votes (in our “democracy”, not actual votes) is seated in the office they are running for, REGARDLESS of what kind of person they are, what their record of serving the people is or isn’t, or how intelligent or not intelligent they are.

Trump’s “wall” was always ONLY a racist dog-whistle. NOTHING else! Remember that he said Mexico was going to pay for it.

And what he didn’t say is that IF a wall along the U.S. southern border was EVER constructed, the U.S. would use Mexican labor to do it, because for some unknown reason, people of Mexicans descent, whether they are U.S. citizens or not, are 99% of construction workers in the U.S. with government subcontractors.
