Interesting piece on the Eurozone and Germany. I am not real familiar with the overall fundamentals of the Eurozone but it seems like the states here in the US. While we are all part of a larger unit, we are responsible for our own states. Granted we receive federal dollars(red states more than blue) but the Feds can also tell us where to spend those dollars, in other words they are really earmarks. But no one tells us how to run our states. And when you have a system like that, some states fare better than others. It sounds like the Eurozone did not make those distinctions or if they did, they did not do the requisite oversight of each country. Similar to what we do with our financial institutions still. On the other hand, I have heard from other sources that Germany did project an island in the Eurozone during the recent world crisis and in the lead in to the crisis. It is hard to know the truth because there are so many opinions of what happened and there can always be an ax to grind in the opinion of any person.
