This is how he listed some but on 11 others he didn’t note that and says his income is over $100,000. I know somewhere, somehow, someone is going to get to see those minutes and that will confirm his involvement or lack there of. Anyway, as Chairman of the Board, he was involved in the company’s business activities, as business plans are the main discussion of any board meeting. At least it was on the 4 boards I served on. Also, if he is listed as a board member he must attend or give cause and according to corporate law, you must have at least 1-2 meetings a year. He can’t escape this. I am sure he was present at those meetings and I am sure business was discussed. If he wasn’t present, the minutes have to disclose that he wasn’t. He is Chairman of the Board. The minutes would also disclose who he turned the operations over to in his absents, if he did turn them over and how he listed his reason, time frame, and how his activities in the company would be limited at that time. There are investors that those minutes have to be made available. I am sure that these will be found and opened up here shortly. More will be disclosed and I don’t think he can run from this at all. PBS reports that Sands was clear that, in order to drive business from mainland China to their Macau casino, they would need to use “junkets” — trips arranged by private companies to ferry high-stakes gamblers to Macau:
Among the junket companies under scrutiny is a concern that records show was financed by Cheung Chi Tai, a Hong Kong businessman.
Cheung was named in a 1992 U.S. Senate report as a leader of a Chinese organized crime gang, or triad. A casino in Macau owned by Las Vegas Sands granted tens of millions of dollars in credit to a junket backed by Cheung, documents show.
Cheung did not respond to requests for comment.
Another document says that a Las Vegas Sands subsidiary did business with Charles Heung, a well-known Hong Kong film producer who was identified as an office holder in the Sun Yee On triad in the same 1992 Senate report. Heung, who has repeatedly denied any involvement in organized crime, did not return phone calls.
Adelson’s many interests in politics are sometimes business-oriented and, on other issues, purely driven by ideology. Either way, his spending is massive. Adelson pledged to join forces with the Koch brothers to take down President Obama. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) — a top surrogate for Romney’s campaign — said of Adelson’s Chinese business interests and political giving that “maybe in a round-about way, foreign money is coming into an American campaign, political campaigns.”
SENATE REPUBLICANS FILIBUSTER DISCLOSE ACT | Two years after filibustering the DISCLOSE Act of 2010 to death and blocking any disclosure for who is funding the the independent expenditures enabled by the Supreme Court’s 5-4 Citizens United ruling, Republicans have again blocked transparency. While the 2010 version included other campaign finance reforms, the DISCLOSE Act of 2012 was pared down to only require disclosure of the funders of $10,000-and-larger independent political expenditures. But Republicans, led by former disclosure advocate Sen. Mitch McConnell (KY) still blocked the measure, incredibly calling it “nothing less than an effort by the government itself to expose its critics to harassment and intimidation.” The Senate vote failed 51-44, falling 9 votes short of the needed 60.
Specifically, the interesting information is located in Exhibit A-5 (Employment and Other Associations with Businesses and Non-Governmental Entities). In this exhibit, the footnote on page 2 indicates the following: “1 This designation indicates that while Governor Romney was listed as a general partner of this entity and therefore, in theory, had management authority, in fact he played no active role in the management of this entity.” That footnote was attached to a number of the companies listed in the exhibit — for example, on page two of the exhibit, BCIP Associates has that designation and is further clarified under the Position Held line where Romney is listed as “General Partner (passive).” BUT that footnote and that parenthetical designation are NOT listed on the two entities on page 1 of the Exhibit: Bain Capital Inc., where his position was listed as “Executive” and his salary was “Over $100,000”; and Bain Capital LLC, which also lists his position as “Executive” and his salary as “Over $100,000.”
CBS’ Nancy Cordes reported Wednesday that Republicans’ many fruitless attempts at repealing the Affordable Care Act have taken up at least 80 hours of time on the House floor since 2010, amounting to two full work weeks. As the House, according to the Congressional Research Service, costs taxpayers $24 million a week to operate, those two weeks amounted to a total cost of approximately $48 million.
That $50 million spent blowing hot air could have provided subsidies for about 4,500 families of four in the exchanges, or one year of foodstamps for 31,131 people.
This is particularly ironic considering the GOP’s heated cries of “waste” about the Affordable Care Act, a law that is actually expected to reduce the deficit and help millions of Americans.
MISSOURI GOVERNOR VETOES BILL PERMITTING EMPLOYER TO DENY WOMEN ACCESS TO BIRTH CONTROL | Gov. Jay Nixon (D-MO) vetoed a bill that would have allowed employers or health insurance providers to stop offering coverage for contraception, abortion, or sterilization if doing so violated their religious or moral convictions. The governor’s decision sets up a potential conflict with the Republican-dominated legislature that approved the bill by wide margins; the bill’s sponsor, state Sen. John Lamping (R), said he will work to override the veto in September. Nixon said he stopped the bill because “we want families making these decisions — not insurance companies.”

Outsourcing practices like those used by companies like Ralph Lauren have resulted in the loss of 2.8 million jobs to China since 2001, and the apparel and accessories and textile industries were among the hardest hit. China is notorious for its lack of labor standards — its workers often toil for long hours for low pay in horrendous working conditions. But even with American workers struggling to regain a foothold after millions of jobs were lost in the Great Recession, Ralph Lauren and the U.S. Olympic Team think its more important to make more money than make their products in the United States.
