Amidst the financial crisis of 2008 and resultant recession, cities and states around the country lost millions of dollars on investments tied to the London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor).
Appearing on NPR, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) joined the growing chorus of Republicans to distance themselves from Bachmann’s Islamopbic with-hunt. Salon reports that Rubio said (listen here):

REPORT: BOTTOM HALF OF AMERICAN HOUSEHOLDS HAVE JUST 1 PERCENT OF NATION’S WEALTH | The bottom 50 percent of American households hold just 1.1 percent of the nation’s wealth, after its share declined steadily following the financial crisis, a report from the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service found. The richest one percent, meanwhile, hold 34.5 percent of the wealth, as the chart below shows. The top 10 percent’s share of wealth has risen over the last two decades, the report found, but it has fallen for households in every group below that.

According to the Department of Defense, each service branch’s symbols are trademarked, and their commercial and political use is tracked closely by military officials to prevent any appearance of the military’s endorsing a partisan or for-profit cause. The officials said they will be contacting the group and asking them to stop using the insignia or face potential legal action.
Officially launched this week, the anti-Obama super-PAC is led by Ryan Zinke, a retired Navy SEAL and conservative state senator from Montana.
Part of that mission is firing away at President Obama for allegedly spiking the bin Laden football. “Navy SEAL’s, Special Operations Personnel and Veteran’s across America have been outraged since Barack Obama conveniently took credit for killing Osama Bin Laden for political gain,” writes Zinke. The headline on the press release announcing the group on Wednesday trumpeted Zinke as “Former Commander at SEAL TEAM SIX.” That seems a bit misleading: The unit, now known as DEVGRU, hasn’t officially been called SEAL Team Six since 1987, and Zinke once led subordinate units, not the entire SEAL Team.
These so-called OCO funds are most vulnerable to cuts. And in addition to the $650 million for Pakistan, the House voted 228-191 to separately take $175 million from an infrastructure funds to assist Afghanistan.
At the same time, there appears to be no support yet for a dramatic shift in military funding. And a proposal to cut $21 billion from OCO in the name of expediting a U.S. withdrawal failed 312-107.
“He was like skipping, going away quickly,” Zimmerman said. “But he wasn’t running out of fear.”
