If he can’t find anything to build up his children and can only find fault, in my opinion, his children should limit their contact with him. His negativity will weigh them down and their own children, his grandchildren, will also feel their pain.
Grandchildren love to hear funny stories about their parents growing up from their grandparents. But, they equally love to hear their grandparents praise their parents and be proud.
If your children are in their 40’s, you are late in instilling work ethics, parenting skills, self supporting, sound judgement, and communication. But, you are never too late to extend an example of love and support.
By his own admission, they have given him six, soon to be seven, grandchildren. That isn’t something to be proud of and thankful for? He apparently has set goals high, evident by his self perching on his perch, for his children to reach. His children should move on with their own goals and happiness. He sounds like someone that won’t be pleased with anything they do achieve. They should make their own homes and children happy with memories that contain small measures of success as well as big achievement.
Mr. Crews shutting the door to his family will find that old age can be very lonely even if you feel you are the successful one in the family. A warm and loving family is a success that most work for. And, it is work. Work that requires your time and energy embraced with love. Material things carry far fewer memories as those memories of a family that enjoys their time together.
