jkkFL, see I took this pill that is suppose to let me sleep and forget about the pain. Well, it did for about 45mins. Then I woke up and picked on poor KQ and found myself defending Ed Shutz! AHWWW! So, I went to this reality show blog I have been on for years (yes, I know, silly) and was able to get some frustrations out, laugh, and find out they had missed me. (go figure) Anyway, I had a Grandmother with a beautiful flower garden. I think I am better today but I may go off the deep end again.

Oh, Kalima, I don’t know, more to life? I just know what Daisy means from my Grandmother and her giving me a tour of her flower garden when I was young. (The daffodil held the sun’s shine.) I didn’t know if you needed more of where, when or why that came to be. If you do, I don’t know.

Khirad, gee, I thought is was the Egyptians or the Romans that invented air conditioning. What do I know? I don’t even have one. Who invented the fan? I think it was the water buffalo with his tail and the battle with flies.

Kalima, sorry to hear you are suffering with the heat. You can dress for the cold but you can’t undress enough for the heat. With my medical condition, I can’t take too much heat and I can’t take too much cold. So, where in the world is it “just right”, Goldielocks??

Well, Kalima, a bra is used in my house to keep these two deflated balloons on my chest from hitting my knees while walking or falling into my armpits when I lay down.

No, Killgore, I haven’t seen it. That is one thing I want to do is tour Jamestown and all those kinds of places. Kinda like SarahP…..well, I think I might know more about those places than her and I haven’t been there. I think I saw on the History Channel that when they would have landed back when, the rock was further out and that isn’t it. Or was it that the water was lower and more was exposed. Oh, hell, call me Sarah…..

I know where Plymouth, Mass got its name. But, I will second Khirad and say it comes from the river Plym. Mouth of the river Plym=Plymouth. Which is better than at the end of the river Plym which would result in Plymassend. But, that would work well with Massachusetts. Plymassend, Mass.

Anyway one of the five is:
4) World leaders are practically lighting a fire under the Arctic. As Secretary of State Hilary Clinton met with the Arctic Council last month to discuss oil exploration, WikiLeaks, with impeccable timing, published a new trove of cables highlighting a race to carve up the Arctic for resource exploitation. Nations battling to poison the arctic with oil drilling include Canada, the US, Russia, Norway, Denmark, and perhaps even China, which all have competing claims to the Arctic.

The leaks illustrate a frightening reality, where world leaders are greedily awaiting the opportunity to exploit the oil and natural gas that lie beneath the melting Arctic ice, even arming themselves for possible resource wars. A least that’s what the Russian Ambassador Dmitry Rogozin hinted in a 2010 cable that reads, “The twenty-first century will see a fight for resources. Russia Should not be defeated in this fight.”

A 2009 cable suggests US paranoia about Russia: “Behind Russia’s policy are two potential benefits accruing from global warming, the prospect for an [even seasonally] ice-free shipping route from Europe to Asia, and the estimated oil and gas wealth hidden beneath the Arctic sea floor.” Russian Navy head Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky is quoted in a 2008 cable as saying, “While in the Arctic there is peace and stability, however, one cannot exclude that in the future there will be a redistribution of power, up to armed intervention.”

Clearly, banking on the melting of the polar ice caps has taken priority over halting or even reversing the catastrophic effects of climate change. The Arctic contains as much as one quarter of the world’s gas and oil reserves, once hidden under huge masses of ice and inaccessible through frozen seas. However, ice is melting faster than predicted, presenting profitable business opportunities which are leading the Arctic countries to lose sight of longer-term climate issues. Greenpeace oil campaigner Ben Ayliffe underscores the danger of this mentality:

“These latest Wikileaks revelations expose something profoundly concerning. Instead of seeing the melting of the Arctic ice cap as a spur to action on climate change, the leaders of the Arctic nations are instead investing in military hardware to fight for the oil beneath it. They’re preparing to fight to extract the very fossil fuels that caused the melting in the first place. It’s like pouring gasoline on a fire.”

KQuark, I have read stuff from Ayn Rand before but never watched her. From your link I got to YouTube and her interviews are, well, I don’t think the Christians Right would like her at all. There is one interview where she is really putting down Conservatives for trying to say Christian faith is the nation’s religion. Wow, there are a lot of ads to be made from her.

Yah, like she is alive to give a damn. If she were still with us, they would be one of those cameras cramming for a shot at her. The glasses were to get attention? She lived in NYC! She could get all the attention she wanted. And, how do they know that is fake fur in that car? Vivian Maier: Photography’s Emily Dickinson?

Q, I enjoyed these very much! Thank you for sharing and introducing her to me. The shadows and shapes only really appear in black and white. I think I can count on one hand the shots I have gotten that are worth showing anyone. Of course, they were purely accidents/luck. Nothing based on skill. It is a shame that she didn’t see her work appreciated.
