Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

Ref: the “tex” thread…

Jumped on this morning to check out responses to my articles and see if anyone was around early on a Saturday morning. I was interested to read back through this exchange, or most of it.

One of the points made by many here at PPOV is that the back-and-forth over at HP {spit} (I like that, BTW!) is useless, personal ego gratification at best and a waste of time at worst, or maybe vice versa. Valid point.

I mildly disagree. Because I endeavored to simply ignore the posters that were either paid to snipe, or were doing it out of some perverse pleasure, or for some other unfathomable reason, I had a different motivation that hasn’t really changed. I may relatively alone in this, but my motivate WAS to talk to others that saw some value in what I had to say, and I believe my messages were heard by those folks.

I did not have a deletion of posts problem until the last couple of weeks, nor did I have spats of banning. Why? Because I kept it civil, addressed the issues, and stayed out of the flame wars.

I was struck by the consistant requests for cogent argument by the senior partners here and others, versus delving into an all-too-familiar food fight. That was, and is, exactly my style, and has been for many years. I really have no interest.

I say something now and again about this: Everything you see on a PC is just pixels on a screen. It isn’t personal. No one is going to reach out and punch you. You don’t know these people, really. And, the machine has an on/off button. I don’t care enough about you to get into a pissing match over opinons and personalities.

Bottom line, and I’ll waste no more of anyone’s time on this…

What I saw in the “tex” thread below is exactly why I am here. As much as it’s nice to be around people that generally agree with my outlook on life, it is MUCH more valuable to me to be around smart people that refuse to engage in nonsense.

Thanks.

Truth… MUCH better than “Toys in the Attic”

Repost from earlier… I went to this blog, a Wisconsin senator’s, and he lays out what is REALLY going on behind the scenes there. It’s not what is being reported. VERY interesting, IMO!

Hi Foxxy!

I posted a thing yesterday froma WI senator that explained that the bill they are fighting over is a complete sham, and that the “budget shortfall” is a myth. WI is maybe $170MM in deficit. That $3B they keeo throwing around is NOT in the budget, they are suggestions over 10 years for POSSIBLE programs.

I’ll see if I can find it and repost.

jkk… I was yapping for weeks on HP about the fact that the right had absolutely no intention of fixing anything…

They have gone back to their wedge issues of God, Guns and Gays, and Issa is going to do nothing for the next 2 years but investigate the President.

Mark my words…

The 2010 election cycle is starting soon, and this is what they are all about.

Mighty…

This exact same thing was done before to avoid a vote…

I’m thinking the Illinois guys beat it into Wisconsin years ago to avoid a vote. I may be mistaken about the states, but I’ve seen this before somewhere…

boomer… I saw that Ohio had thousands protesting already, and also Indiana is getting to it. Pres. Obama’s email list is being used to activate the masses.

ADONAI:

Ok, first, I hate “slasher flicks” so the subject matter leaves me cold. Not interested.

Second, I just don’t play games on the computer on a Playstation or whatever. I have always looked at a PC as a tool, and that’s about it, so I have no way to compare to anything.

Having said that, I think the graphic talent is amazing! Wow!

We’re getting close to not needing actors for movies now, I think, just CGI animatrons.

CNN just talked to Mark Miller, a WI senator, who said they ain’t coming back until the collective bargaining part of the bill is pulled out of the bill. In other words, the Dems will not allow the state senate to vote on any bill that negates the collective bargaining ability of public service unions.

Wisconsin update…

CNN is reporting that all Democratic Senators left town to make a quorum impossible so that the vote on the bill that cuts the budget can’t happen.

The CNN anchor is outraged that the Dems “aren’t at work and representing the people that elected them.” What a total doofus!

AB – Yeah… I’m a backwoods Wisconsin boy… same rules, except once it starts, I was taught to finish it, and finish it hard! LOL I have stories…

AB – I wonder how THAT would go over here in Texas!

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 17, 2011 @ 7:46 am

jdm, I was born and raised in wisconsin, and spent 14 years on the road there…. LOL I know every backroad and highway in the state. Don’t even need a map any more!

A HS rail that looped from Chicago to Milwaukee, then up through Fond duLac and the Fox Cities to Green Bay, then over to Wausau, Eau Claire, Menominee and the Twin Cities, then back down through LaCrosse and Madison and Milwaukee (a two lane rail each going in the opposite dirction) would be WONDERFUL for the state. As long as the fares were reasonable, people would use it, I’m sure.

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 17, 2011 @ 7:41 am

jdm, the backstory I heard about that is that the new governor had buddies and financial backers who were HUGE highway contractors, and wanted to divert the rail money to roads, thereby giving his buddies some huge government contracts.

The Feds said, um…. no thanks! and pulled the dollars.

boomer –

Yeah, I know… we are having a miscommunication because “Posts” and “Comments” are interchangeable verbiage, but when we get into specifics, the two are very different.

WordPress in the “Edit Post” mode automagically just picks “Related Posts” in that section out of the air, it seems. I want to control that.

Also, I want to link some terms to specific off-site articles. In the “In-Text Links” section, again, WordPress just sort of does it, but no editing I can see.

Just trying to make it better.

boomer…

I know about the COMMENT thing…

I want to do it in POSTS. I tried this method and it didn’t work in my POSTS.

I’ve been trolling around in WordPress doc for an hour and getting nowhere.
