BDM – The Well is (as far as I know) the oldest forum on the interwebs. It is a fee-based site ($10 a month, $150 a year) and it is a place where there is free discussion on just about anything under the sun. It is also a place where there are no anonymous posters. You MUST use your name, or at least have it in your nickname profile. The idea is that “you own your own words” according to their policies.

They are owned by Salon.

The reason I bring it up is that it seems to me to be the ‘private’ version of what is happening here… where people are free to express themselves and publish for comment.

Many similarities, and I was wondering if the PPOV founders might have used some of their ideas and ideals to start PPOV.

It’s a very slick site, and something I would think might want to be emulated down the road with enough funding.

Question: Has anyone here heard of or belongs to “The Well?”

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 21, 2011 @ 10:44 am

jdm – I deleted my PW account. I use YeOldePhartt just to see what’s going on once in a while. But, yeah, that was strange. Never seen THAT one before.

Boomer – just posted that on HP {spit!} and it appeared, and then just vaporized. Not even a “comment deleted” notice. LOL

KB, chase… works for me in both IE 8.0 and Safari… dunno what to tell ya…

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 20, 2011 @ 10:03 pm

I started with “How-To for Authors” up on the masthead of the web site under the FAQ tab.

Sno – KB is right. The first time is a little tricksy… don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Kali – I read the article Khirad just posted a link to… spooky!

BTW, wasn’t tying to add to the load or start anything, was just responding to a “it’s happening all over the place” comment.

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 20, 2011 @ 8:46 pm

Khirad – not trying to add to the load. I jump on the interwebs thru Google, and I have a headlines gadget that pops up top stories, and I saw that in passing and thought CHINA?!?!?!? WTF?

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 20, 2011 @ 8:36 pm

I’m movin’ to Nuevo Cali right now! 😈

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 20, 2011 @ 8:10 pm

China: Crackdown after call for ‘jasmine revolution’

Chinese security officials questioned or detained scores of activists at the weekend and warned others against staging protests after an online call was made for demonstrations in 13 cities, campaigners said.

The message, posted on an overseas website on Saturday, was titled: “The jasmine revolution in China”. The swift crackdown underlined the anxiety of authorities in the wake of the Egypt uprising and protests across the Middle East.

2nd – IMO, He’s all three. No false choices when it comes to The Deity!

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 19, 2011 @ 12:25 pm

Abby – yeah, I do… as I said somewhere else here.. I have 2 core values: Social justice and fiscal discipline. Everything else is a side issue to me and I can be all over the place on specific issues.

» Posted By PocketWatch On February 19, 2011 @ 11:55 am

ADONAI – Who knew the Deity would end up being a money grubber!

HH – you’re a Socialist!

deygirl…

Yep! That’s generally how it goes…. lots of meandering and backtracking… I follow where she goes, as long as it’s not somewhere dangerous or where I can’t, like deep woods.

Actually, she sometimes WANTS the leash. I think she feels more secure that way. When she is a little confused or gets distracted, I start away and she is happy to follow until she is interested again.

It’s a surprising dynamic. I rarely have to use the leash anymore, I just hook her up when things might be a little dicey for her.

@all…

I’ll be back in an hour or so… Maggie wants her walk.

Woof… my purpose was as much to inform as well as debate. When a news article popped up, I would do a little research and write a comment in 250 words or less.. a challenge, since brevity is not easy for me, and post it. I ignored the snarks and engaged everyone else. Worked for me, and I believe that the information and the engagement with people that saw some value or flaw in what I posted were valuable to me and to them. I just tuned the rest out.

Hey, woof, read my comment at the top. This was interesting on a few levels.
