Displaying 721 To 750 Of 1,384 Comments I keep getting this mental image of refugees escaping from behind the Huffington Curtain…. at first flooding across the border, and now trickling in as word gets around that there is something better over the hill. Ragged, gaunt, and hungry…. Then… the wonder of it all! Freedom! LOL What can I say? 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 3:30 pm Sure! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 11:54 am Hey, Mom! » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 10:17 am Glenmoredoc1 says: I have been long of the opinion that many commentors over at Huffington Post that were spewing this meme are actually doing it on purpose. It has long been a tactic of Republicans to suppress voting, and this is one way they do it. Thay convince and discourage Democrats that there is no real reason to go to the polls. Even if 1/10th of 1% of Democrats buy into that meme, the tactic is a success. Add that to other tactics like the dirty tricks played on or near election days, tearing down lawn signs, painting Dems on Fox as Republicans or vice versa, and so on, and those 1/10th of 1%’s add up. That’s how they do it, and they do it well. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 9:56 am What comes to mind is that (maybe) they are looking at where people went, and cleaning out the closets of anyone that “defected.” Is that too paranoid? 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 7:50 pm Someone will give you a link for that… There’s a bunch… 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 6:41 pm At one point in time, on one of the many jobs I’ve had in my long and checkered career, I was the Business Manager of a $5M mail order catalog which was attached/associated with a magazine. The reason I bring this up is that I became familiar with how subscriptions work, and how to analyze what happens when changes are made in the format, price, or whatever. When you make any significant change, you absolutely will lose some subscribers. The common wisdom at the time was 10%. What was/is known, is that you can expect with fair accuracy that 75% of that 10% will resubscribe if those people have no reasonable alternative or replacement. What I have been thinking about all day is that someone made a calculation like this, and came up with a result similar to what I describe. What I would question is “Is there a reasonable or equivalent alternative?” Considering that we are talking the interweb, I’d say any confidence in people returning to the fold after hunting around may be misplaced. I Do like HP’s format and look as well as ease of use, but the negatives are piling up. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 6:19 pm Hello, my shack-happy friend! » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 6:06 pm That post was from someone we all know. I’m not saying who. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 4:48 pm “Oh they’ll be back. Some people have been here so long they feel like they Are owed something even though they contribute nothing. Just the Little fits over nothign we all have.” ———- Current post over at HP (I’m lazy, and don’t need to type the whole thing!) I guess that’s the company line. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 4:41 pm I’ve seen the moniker, Buddy. This looks like a good place to be to me. Not a criticism, but an observation… I was here early this morning, and mostly no one was posting. I imagine as they get more members here, that will change. I know that they have server issues right now because of upgrades, so patience is virtue. What I like best is the opportunity to actually set up your own articles and also to post at length. Some ideas just cannot be put into bumper stickers. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 9:36 am “Make a move, and the bunny gets it!” Cyrus the Virus, Con Air » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 9:23 am The word “alimony” is to me akin to the old Three Stooges routine “Niagra Falls”…. “Slowly I turned… step by step…” 🙂 I am doubly logged on, here and at HP at the moment, and it is a vast wasteland over there right now. Very few high-fan posters on. I know that is a shallow indicator, but the commentary is very lame and shallow. Of course, it usually is, but the silence is deafening. She could start a cricket farm… What I’m struggling with is whether to completely delete my account or just abandon it. I have another sock I use once in a while “YeOldePhartt” that I have used just for fun, which I could use to cruise around, but I hope my PocketWatch has SOME … er… influence, maybe? I don’t care about fan counts or badges, but people know me and hopefully respect me to some degree, and might listen to what I have to say. I rarely have anything raptured, surprisingly enough. I don’t know… » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 9:19 am Hey Chase! Welcome! There is an article on the right that gives some help for commenting, and see the FAQ’s all the way at the bottom for directions to put up an AV… I just cancelled my account over at HP 10 minutes ago. Had enough! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 10, 2011 @ 8:07 am I subscribe to AOL for a number of reasons, not the least of which is to maintain a decades-long email account that everyone I know knows me by. I was one of their first 1/2million subscribers when they first started up. I still use a couple of their chat rooms from time to time. And I see that the AOL comment crowd is starting to migrate to HP, as seen by the post linked to above. THIS is what AOL devolved to over time, as anyone that has looked at the comments attached to any story. Juvenile at best, and inhuman at worst. I will be deleting my main account over at HP as soon as I finish posting this comment. However, I am keeping a sock named ‘YeOldePhartt’ at HP to be able to lurk around a bit and sow seeds of dissention and to keep an eye on the place. ‘Keep your enemies closer…’ 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 10, 2011 @ 7:35 am That’s right, KK!!!! MY kung fu is strong! Put ’em up! 👿 » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 5:51 pm I’m personally torn between hanging around there to see the carcass rot, or to see what ripples (if any) my demise might make. I have another sock over there ‘YeOldePhartt’ that I have rarely used, and it might be fun to watch from that perspective. (Old AOL trick from the good old days of role playing there) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 5:22 pm Penner posted heavily over on my article about business, and shared some things abut himself. He and I elbowed each other a bit on HP, but he’s a totally different animal here. I don’t know if he wiped his persona over there, but I welcome his input. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 5:03 pm PS – did you check my responses on the other thread? I left some info for you. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 11:48 am Ok, now, I just threw up in my mouth a little… 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 11:47 am I’m going to say this as modestly as I can… I never went in for the fan thingy much, one way or the other, I simply never cared. I always posted what I thought, tried to be polite, and kept to the subject. Ask around and people will verify that. I almost never got my comments raptured (until recently). My point is, most of the people that fanned me were those ‘heavy hitters’ mentioned, I believe. If that is true, I think HP lost a TON of talent in just one day. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 11:45 am By the way, I’ve been looking at that picture of the Huffster at the top of this article and it finally came to me… Caption: “Missed it by THAT much!” 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 11:29 am I have always said, and I mean it, that I have never had a problem honestly debating anyone of any political or ethical or moral stance, as long as we can agree on a universe of facts and history. We are exposed these days to mutable facts and mythical history, with each person in the conversation owning their own facts and denying anyone else’s. That is not a way to meaningful dialog and understanding, let alone convincing someone of the right of things in a point of view. Given that, I welcome other views. I may actually learn something! (Not likely, but y’never know!) 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 11:26 am I noted with interest 2 days ago when the storm hit, within hours I “lost” over 170 fans out of about 1600. That’s about 10%. I don’t know how that translates to lost bloggers in general, but it seems substantial. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 11:22 am There is an old business addage I recalled while reading the comments to my original post. “When considering a course of action, throw out every reasonable suggestion. Whatever is left is the one that will happen.” How many times have you all seen that to be true? » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 10:31 am I wrote a thing, and have spent the last 10 hours catching comments. Work work work work work work work work work! maybe I should change my name to Maynard G. Krebs! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 10:23 am bito, Thanks for the response over there on the other page. I edited the article. Appreciate the oversight. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 9, 2011 @ 9:37 am By the way, what they are doing at this very moment is classic corporate thinking. I suppose that many here, at one time or another, worked for major or large corporations. I have. I spent 10 years in NYC and oversaw 5 mergers in that span of time. What happened in every case was housecleaning with no thought to anything other than people at the top clearing out people and projects they didn’t like, merits notwithstanding. Just about the only people left after every merger were sycophants and people that kept their heads down (me). Customers were way down on the list of priorities. The VP’s in charge of the mergers were all jockying for their turf. It generally took about a year for the place to settle down, and then it started all over again. The waste was incredible. I had a standing order with a printer in New Jersey to do all the business cards and letterhead worldwide. He would print up a year’s worth and palletize it, and drop ship what was needed when I asked. You can’t imagine how much we shredded. Just one small example of what goes on. I’d LOVE to be a fly on the wall over at HP and AOL about now. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 8:09 pm I posted earlier, some calculation was made that figures many that leave will be back after having their little hissy fit. I think they made a big ooops. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 8:01 pm Hi, KT… Glad you could make it. Money… principle… money… principle… Those two things go together?!?!? Seems to me, that in some people’s heads, money IS principle… a way to keep score rather than means to an end. I never saw it that way, but deal with it all the time. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 8, 2011 @ 7:59 pmComments Posted By PocketWatch

Absolutely spot on! I was amazed at the complacency of so many of the Democratic voters who opined that ‘it doesn’t make any difference’
