Displaying 541 To 570 Of 1,384 Comments Everything from “Over There” belongs “Here!” :arrow:coffeegod – I always thought the zenith of AOL was the GEM interface in DOS. Fast, easy, intuitive, and totally cool, long before Windows was a gleam in little Billy Gates’ eye. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 15, 2011 @ 4:32 pm jkk – just remember, logic is a slippery tool to use. Remember every episode of Star Trek? It was always all about Spock being logical and Bones being all about his gut. The answer was always somewhere in the middle. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 15, 2011 @ 10:26 am jkk – LOL Steam away! Far be it from me to head anyone off at the pass! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 15, 2011 @ 10:11 am @Salvatoris: There is a lot there to be critical of. For example, most people say he is “center-left.” Hogwash! I think he is “center-right.” What we call the center these days used to be radical right 40 years ago. However, there are a lot of unreported and “hidden” benefits in some of these bills. HCR is a classic example. See ‘choicelady’ comments on this. You can go to the Member Directory and see her comments. She is a lobbyist and knows it from the inside. I was blown away. We all (and I include myself in this) think we know ‘facts,’ and we try our hardest to base our political stances on what we think we know, and that”s the best we can do. My opinion is that there are some very scary-smart people here that REALLY know what’s going on, and I intend to find out what they got. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 14, 2011 @ 1:45 pm @ Salvatoris: Seeing as how I haven’t watched MSM “news” for years, I think my brain is sufficiently dirty. » Posted By PocketWatch On February 14, 2011 @ 1:25 pm I have core principles of social justice and fiscal accountability. When it comes to the side issues that they call wedge issues, I am all over the place. Why? Because they are side issues and rarely impinge on the core values I hold. Besides, Emerson said the “Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 14, 2011 @ 1:13 pm And for what? Political points and money. Pisses me off no end! (I almost typed ‘pizzes’…!!! LOL) 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 14, 2011 @ 1:08 pm I’m going to take a whack at this… I think there are two things intertwined here. First off, I am a Socialist by nature, at least as far as I want government to protect and preserve the commons we all depend on every day. Left? I’m WAAAAAY left when it comes to that stuff. I have not been happy with any administration or Congress for over 30 years. On the other hand, I recognize that nothing changes instantly, and we are stuck with the situation we have, which is a two-party system and with legislators that are so bad in many cases on both sides, you have a hard time telling one from the other. But, in the end, you have to ask only one question… Which side or party or man/woman will get us closer to what YOU or I want? That’s it. Because that’s all we have. I’d LOVE to see a government run HC system, nationalised financial system, electric grid, and so on. I’d be ecstatic to have hard core regulations on multinationals. And I’d fight to the death to keep mom and pop businesses as regulation-free as possible. Same with personal freedoms. But I can’t have those things, and there is no one on the horizon, nor is there a party that will get us there in one fell swoop. SO, what is left? A or B, and that’s it. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 14, 2011 @ 12:54 pm LOL » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 8:09 pm The place uses Gravitars, and I noticed that Gravitar keeps ones that may have been used in the past. You can add new ones, and select the one you want shown. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 8:06 pm https://planetpov.com/2011/02/09/tips-for-newcomers-and-regulars-alike/ Check this out for the skinny on all the basics! And welcome! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 7:58 pm I was never a ‘fan whore’ as I know some people were, posting really treachly stuff just to get their count up. If someone wanted to fan me, fine. If not, fine. I said what I said, and whatever someone else did about it wasn’t my issue. Having said that, it was a convienient way to seperate the wheat from the chaff. Which begs the question…. why is there chaff in the first place? 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 7:56 pm I’m gonna need a flashlight and a map to decipher THAT one! LOL 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 7:44 pm Think about the economics of it.. I don’t know how much revenue a click gets, but it can’t be much. Let’s say it’s 5 cents. If you have to pay even minimum wage, that means you have to generate between 150 – 200 clicks an hour, just to pay for yourself. Cut that to $2 a day, … well, there ya go! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 7:36 pm I am never wrong. I thought I was once, but I was mistaken! LOL I never get tired of saying that! When people start chasing that logical conundrum, I am usually halfway out the door. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 4:00 pm LOL So many posts… I would not want to be adminstrator on this site right now… trying to ‘catch’ newcomers… Ahhh… the confusion of success! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 2:08 pm Welcome, maveet! I’m sure the Admins will get you settled, but in the meantime, here is a link to everything you need to know to get started… https://planetpov.com/2011/02/09/tips-for-newcomers-and-regulars-alike/ Roll up a stump and sit by the fire! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 2:01 pm Ok, now THAT was funny! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 1:57 pm I visited HP this morning for a while in my YeOldePhartt persona, just to see what was going on… felt very AOL-ish to me already. My only thought was “What the hell was I thinking?!?!?!?” 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 9:24 am I always wanted to be compared to creamy goodness, so I did it myself! LOL » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 9:16 am I was a Mod2 “Over There,” and many times was wrongly accused of deleting comments. I know a couple of people were starting to stalk me and comment about my supposed bad habits and so forth, which I thought was hilarious. It made the whole thing more like a second grade recess than an adult site, political or not. Cliques and badges, fans and fan counts, HP Moderators with no clear rules, and on and on… The AOL thing was fortuitous, IMO… some boils need to be lanced, no medication will get them to go away. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 9:14 am Welcome, Smirnon! I know others will point you, but see the article for newcomers. Lots of good stuff to get oriented. As for targeting, I never felt that myself, but I’m an unassuming sort… LOL Again, glad you could make it, and the speeeling immpruves! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 6:55 am I was watching “The Godfather” last night, and the line (one of my favorites) hit me because it is so apropo to this situation… “Leave the gun, take the cannolies.” WE are the cannolies! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 6:52 am Was just over there this morning and dropped a couple of links and they stuck…. at least for now. (YeOldePhartt) 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 6:24 am I was reviewing the comments here from last night, and I got to thinking… Does anyone know, or suspect, who ‘TheRealTeabagger’ is? Now that’s a guy that’s got him some satire, and creationism in hisself! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 13, 2011 @ 5:09 am I see typo-knig has an account here as well… So, at least he knows where it is. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 12, 2011 @ 8:22 pm I see TN has an account here. Don’t know about Jack. 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 12, 2011 @ 8:10 pm What I heard him say is that he wants to be the last one there, so he can be King! Gotta admire his ambition… 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 12, 2011 @ 8:01 pm I read the Breitbart piece, and, like always, I went to the comments below… What did I see, but someone complaining how AOL was so ‘lefty’ already, they were dropping their AOL account, and another saying that HP was just a drop in the lefty MSM ocean. When are we going to be able to wake people up about the corporate MSM that is either so insipid or conservative as to be simply a mouthpiece for GE? Allah, it makes me ill! 8) » Posted By PocketWatch On February 12, 2011 @ 7:55 pm Drink! » Posted By PocketWatch On February 12, 2011 @ 7:42 pmComments Posted By PocketWatch
