I’m Throwing Away My Vote Next Tuesday

Greta, lets keep the Mitt like folks out of politics! Martha Coakley seems to be a progressive from what you say. My concern is a Republican winning and us losing another seat in government.

Have to agree, the ads do seem to be ubiquitous. The one I see too often is Brown dissing New Hampshire Senator Jean Shaheen tying her to Obama, which I think is a good thing. He is a carpetbagger and teabagger as well.

Like you I will be voting Tue.

SLM, If there is a chance that an independent can win and he/she has progressive tendencies, I’m okay with that. I vote for Bernie after all. But, if it will cost us a seat for the Democrats, I would discourage you voting that way. We sure don’t need any more republicans!

Science vs. The GOP

JJ, America is made up of many kinds of people. There are people who care what happens to others and the environment. Then, those who try to make money off the poorly educated. Then of course those ignorant who don’t believe in science.
The folks trying to make money off the group of ignorant may be the worst. I blame the religious extremists of all religions.

It is interesting that she and the boys never came down with Ebola even tho they were left in that apartment for a few days.

Science says that people are not in jeopardy until the person is sick. So why quarantine them until they get sick?

Not So Academic

Dbos, NC should be embarrassed. The mission of a college is to educate students, not cheat them out of the education they are there for. Too many of the athletes that have been pushed through are black. They bring in plenty of revenue to the school but get nothing but a falsified diploma.

This hurts more than just the 3100 people who have those falsified diplomas, it is hurting people working for minimum wage who could not get into college for whatever reason. (cost or desire to get into the work force)

It also hurts those people who actually did the studying and earned their diploma. Because they will be looked at by an employer and seen as a cheater, too.

Brodie, you are very kind to say that. Thanks. I was thinking just about the athletes until you said others are getting a free degree, too.

My education is High School and the College of Hard Knocks.
I have worked in the education field though. First as a telephone lineman for thirty years I got two years of teaching safety classes and safe driving of the derrick and bucket trucks. Pole top rescue, first aid, working safely in manholes, and several other classes. Then I retired and went to work at a local high school as a substitute teacher. After a few classes the Vice Principle asked me to work as her assistant. I went through four years as the discipline guy. I loved it! The next two years I subbed there and another HS.

Just last night my son and I were at a restaurant and one of the young men I dealt with came up to me and said hi. He is doing well and thanked me for the work I did with him. His Dad was also there and thanked me. Makes me feel like I made a difference.

Brodie my friend, we should have collaborated on this issue. Apparently we were thinking along the same lines. I agree that cheating for these young people is not doing them any good.

My post was just my thoughts while yours had a lot more in depth information.

What Are Athletes Actually Learning In UNC?

Kes, I agree. If they do that the innocent people who did the studying and earned the degree might feel better about themselves. It just doesn’t sit well with me that some select people got a college degree without learning anything. Thus they can get a better job (higher paying) than others that went right into the work force.

This cheating has many far reaching damaging consequences for many people. More than the 3100 who cheated. I’m thinking of those who didn’t go to college because they couldn’t afford to. They are working for minimum wage while the cheaters are luxuriating in a high paying job (unearned).

Brodie, I can’t help but wonder if many of the GOP are some of those you speak of? Look at the people they have who seem to be ignorant or outright stupid. The Ricks Santorem and Perry come to mind as well as S. Palin, M. Bauchman and so many others.

PPO, I hear the poison song on Saturday morning radio here in Vermont. The station is WDEV owned and operated by Ken Squire who hosts the show “music to go to the dump to”. Ken a native Vermonter is famous for calling NASCAR races for years.
