Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

Adlib, I have no doubt that Romney won “lie of the year”. He contradicted himself so many times all during the campaign. He made me laugh every time he said one thing one day and a different on the next.
I’m just glad he is NOT our President.

Sally, I think this guy should retire or be forced to resign. He is bringing his religion into the government and trying to push his morality (not up to date) on the rest of America.

» Posted By Nirek On December 12, 2012 @ 4:56 am

Bito, I don’t see the GOP doing that. After all it is the Grand Old (white man) Party.

» Posted By Nirek On December 12, 2012 @ 4:49 am

I heard it was an M16. That is a military weapon that I used in Vietnam. Nobody needs an automatic weapon for hunting or self defense! You are so right (correct) about the “take him down ” argument being silly.
Kesmam, we really need to enforce the gun laws or even ban guns all together and make hunters use bows. Of course that will never happen.

Bito, thanks for the info. I went to the link and read about the 17th amendment. To me it is ambiguous at best.
Why can’t the documents be written clearly and without all the fancy wording?

Right now it is as clear as mud to me. I guess that each state can decide how they want to fill the vacancy. I think it should be a special election and all voters have a chance to vote for who they want.

So if Senator Kerry becomes Sec. State the Governor of Mass can appoint anyone he wants to finish the term?
Hmmmm.

» Posted By Nirek On December 7, 2012 @ 1:36 pm

Adlib, that doesn’t seem fair to the people. They should have a special election. IMO.

That said thanks for the info.

» Posted By Nirek On December 7, 2012 @ 1:14 pm

KT, That’s too funny! He miscalculated I guess.

» Posted By Nirek On December 7, 2012 @ 1:12 pm

Can anyone answer a question I have about DeMint ? When he is gone after the first of the year , who fills his spot and how do they get there? Is there a special election? Does someone appoint a Senator? If so , who does it ?
Thanks in advance for the answers.
Peace plus love equals happiness!

» Posted By Nirek On December 7, 2012 @ 6:47 am

Kalima, it’s good to see DeMint leave. Hope they elect a decent person as Senator of SC.

» Posted By Nirek On December 6, 2012 @ 3:17 pm

Kesmam, I too liked him and his music. May he rest in peace.

» Posted By Nirek On December 6, 2012 @ 3:30 am

Bito, NOT all rednecks are ignorant. I’m an old redneck from Vermont. Unless “redneck” isn’t a working class guy. That is how I define the term.
You are correct though. There are many ignorant people rednecks included.

Okay folks, how hypocritical can these Senators be? Former Senator Bob Dole went to the Senate recently and asked them to support a bill that gives all disabled people the right to equality. They all slapped him on the shoulder or shook his hand. Then all but six republicans voted against it. So it did NOT pass. They claim it would give the UN too much power.

To his credit McCain voted for it. And I thought he had gone completely loony. Guess he had a moment of clarity ?

» Posted By Nirek On December 5, 2012 @ 12:26 pm

KT, what is it with these republican names? Priebus,Mitt, Tag.and Sarah Palin’s kids names Trap or Trip ?
I thought these were “Christians” and Christians name their children after “Christian” historic characters.

I have no problem with religion, don’t get me wrong. But hypocrites bother me.

» Posted By Nirek On December 4, 2012 @ 3:51 am

Kesmam, I have done some research into the LDS and with that info and yours here I feel that “Mittens” has a god complex. He feels that he is entitled to have anything he wants. The Mormons believe that they can attain “godhood”. Mittens seems to think he has attained it already.

Personally It seems more like a cult than a religion to me.

» Posted By Nirek On December 4, 2012 @ 3:44 am

Bito, $2,000 means more to me than it would to a 2%er. They probably use that much to wipe their butts. (sorry to be so crude)

» Posted By Nirek On December 1, 2012 @ 7:43 am

KTIt seems to me that they also hate middle income folks.

» Posted By Nirek On November 30, 2012 @ 2:29 pm

Here I go again.
President Obama has proposed extending the tax cuts for 98% of Americans who can obviously use the money while those 2% people can easily live without those breaks.

The GOP is holding the 98% hostage in order to secure the 2% their tax cuts . Trouble is the 2% get the same break we do just not on anything over $250,000! How hard is it to understand that the government needs that extra revenue to lower the deficit? Along with cuts in defense and other wasteful parts of the government.

» Posted By Nirek On November 30, 2012 @ 11:50 am

What is wrong with this picture. Executives of Hostess (twinkies) getting big bonuses for driving their company into bankruptcy!

Any money that they get for selling the pieces of the company should go to the workers who have lost their jobs due to the mismanaging of the company by these greedy execs!

This is just another example of the rich feeling “entitled” and the working poor getting the shaft!

» Posted By Nirek On November 29, 2012 @ 9:48 am

Folks, I know I.m off topic (and this is the right place to go off topic).
I know the defense budget can take deep cuts and still survive. After all the military is bigger than all the rest in the world. So cutting spending on defense can help with the deficit. Another thing that will help is ending corporate welfare. Corporations are doing just fine. So do we need to cut Social Security? NO! SS has not contributed a dime to the deficit. It is funded by the payroll taxes.
That leaves tax rates and deductions for the rich. We can raise their rates moderately and get rid of their special deductions that only the very rich can use.

My wish for all is PEACE for all people everywhere.

» Posted By Nirek On November 27, 2012 @ 2:32 pm

Sally, that small percentage likes to call themselves the “job creators” . So my question is where are the jobs? They have enjoyed several years of those tax cuts, so WHERE are the JOBS?

» Posted By Nirek On November 26, 2012 @ 3:03 pm

Thanks to the peacemakers !
Mrs. Clinton and all those people who said let us have peace.

» Posted By Nirek On November 22, 2012 @ 3:07 pm

To all my off topic friends;
I wish you a happy Thanksgiving
I wish you peace
I wish you love
I wish you happiness
I wish you prosperity
I wish us a government that has sanity

Sally, six Waltons have as much wealth as the bottom 30% of Americans. That just doesn’t sound right to me. Something is wrong when so few have so much while so many have so little.

I feel rich because I have a family that I love and they love me. After working 45+ years I have enough to be out of debt. Living on my Social Security and savings.

My info on those Waltons is from this link.

Eating their own!!!!!
Hard to believe.

» Posted By Nirek On November 18, 2012 @ 2:15 pm

I wonder if the United States should take all laws off the books and start fresh. It could be done if we started by making new laws that were clear while living with what we have now. Get all the new laws on the books and then eliminate all the old convoluted laws in one instant. It might take a while to do but so many of the laws today contradict themselves. There are too many ways for the wealthy to circumvent the law.
Sorry, just some morning ramblings.

Friends, the filibuster has been overused and abused for far too long. The abuse has been that the threat of a filibuster is considered to be a filibuster.
My Senator Bernie Sanders is the only one who has used the filibuster correctly in a long time.
The over use has been going on too long. The last 4 years it has been used to obstruct every initiative the President has tried to get through.
The way to fix this problem is to make the threatening Senator stand up there and talk until he drops. Then bring the bill forward to a vote.

» Posted By Nirek On November 16, 2012 @ 4:02 am

So BP is going to plead guilty and pay a large fine. Whatever the fine is it is too little, IMO.
I wonder if Mitt had won the election if some way BP would have gotten away with a small fine or none? Mitt after all likes coal and oil and pollution.

» Posted By Nirek On November 15, 2012 @ 3:44 am

Adlib , you are being kind calling them knuckleheads instead of ^*^$#%@ !

» Posted By Nirek On November 14, 2012 @ 4:04 pm

Adlib, sounds like sour grapes to me.
Romney was and is wrong. He wants to redistribute our money to the rich while President Obama (I never tire of saying that) wants to give a helping hand to those who need it.
I see a BIG difference, don’t you?
