Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

Friends, I’m on Social Security. I’m willing to pay more taxes if the 2%ers have to as well. Let step off the “fiscal (2 inch) cliff” together. then on Jan. 3 we can have a bill passed that will cut taxes for 98% of us.
My Senator Bernie Sanders told me personally that he would bring a Bill to the floor cutting taxes for us on the third.

Bito, I almost think going “over the cliff” will be a good thing. The defense budget will take a hit as well as everything else. After the first work day the congress can vote to cut taxes on those of us who make $250,000 or less. I’m betting the GOP will not vote against a tax cut.

If these high capacity magazines have a ligit use it has to be in the military. Civilians with guns should practice and hit what they shoot at. Instead of spraying bullets all over and hitting innocent people. There is no need for many round in a magazine.

Last night my daughter asked me to take my 8 year old granddaughter to her dance class. The dance teacher had them doing fun things instead of their usual more serious dance steps. They were laughing and being silly. I had to smile while I had tears well up in my eyes. I was thinking that this is innocence and the kind of thing those 20 children will never have. My heart is torn apart. Children need to have fun and be silly once in a while.
I’m so glad I got to see them having so much fun.

I want all children to have the chance to enjoy life.

Why shouldn’t every gun owner have to buy liability insurance for each gun owned? I bet a lot of guns would disappear.

Kes’, absolutely! Auto and semi auto guns should NOT be available ! Also hand guns that carry magazines with more rounds than six (maybe even just one).

Kes’, I agree, the gun owners should be required to carry insurance like we do for our cars. It should be required that a written test and all the same requirements of car ownership and driving be the same for gun ownership and use. At the very least.

Murph, this is the worst shooting spree I can remember. Killing 6-7 year old children is unthinkable to me. And teachers who we ask to keep our children safe and to teach. These people have a right to feel safe in a school building.
May God embrace the victims and their families.

Bito, this is one reason I like Bernie Sanders so much. Also why I dislike Boehner so much. Boehner votes for WAR then to cut the veterans benefits. These veterans are all volunteers while I was drafted. I was asked to reenlist at the end of my two years and laughed at the guy. Upon return to civilian life I was loud against the WAR! We had no good reason for being in Vietnam ! We have no good reason for being in Iraq or Afghanistan either. But , cutting the veterans benefits is a disgusting thing for a congressman who voted for the WAR!

Bito, the Founding Fathers indeed did not know automatic guns or even revolvers with six shots would be available say nothing of guns with magazines that can be changed quickly. All these guns may be okay for military use but it seems to me that limiting all guns to a single shot would keep people safer. Also limit ammo sales to a small number. After all how many deer do you have to kill on a hunting trip?

I didn’t get my disability until 4 years ago from Vietnam. You make a good point , Bito. I do believe Bernie will make a difference as the Chairman.

No Bito, we embrace change for the better. Some folks try to get away from the “rat race” where they lived which is great. The trouble is they try to make Vermont like their old home state which they escaped. That doesn’t work. We are a rural state. We don’t have all the fancy amenities that they enjoyed where they came from.
We love having people come and assimilate. Our way of life is a little slower but very fulfilling. We welcome anyone.

Folks, I know America needs to cut spending and raise taxes on the 2%. The republicans know it too. Trouble is they want to cut Social Security (which has not contributed a dime to the deficit) and Medicare and Medicaid. Cuts to those programs would hurt the people who make the least money.
The cuts should be in the bloated defense budget and subsidies for oil, nuclear, coal, banking, insurance, and pharma. They are all doing just fine and don’t need help.
A combination of cuts on those subsidies and defense and a rise in the 2%ers taxes along with an investment in our infrastructure and education will do more good for our country than cuts to SS, MC,and MA!

Ambassador Susan Rice has taken herself out of contention for Sec. of State. I think it is a good thing because of a conflict of interest sense she owns stock in the oil sands.
Until I read that she had an interest in those oil sands I was in favor of her. I respect her for doing this.

Bito, You are correct (right) that Vermont is progressive. We love our state and people but we welcome visitors and new Vermonters. Just don’t try to change Vermont to be like the place you came from.

Kes, I got Bernie’s book titled “The Speech” it is a transcript of the speech with an introduction. You are correct in that is a Jimmy Stewart moment. It set an example as to how a filibuster should be done. At least that is my opinion.

This morning I heard on the news that my Senator Bernie Sanders is chairman of the veterans committee ! This is good for us veterans because Bernie knows since we served our country we deserve to be treated respectfully. He will fight for us to get our benefits.
It is my opinion that Bernie is the best man in our government!
