Now the congress has renewed the PA several times and so many people are up in arms about it. CRAZY, huh? » Posted By Nirek On June 6, 2013 @ 6:18 pm KT, I never cease to be amazed by the power of “mother nature”. This white pine was strong and I never considered that it would fall on my house. » Posted By Nirek On June 6, 2013 @ 3:47 am Kalima, I am old enough to pace myself and work safely. The last two years of my career I was the safety officer for the state of Vermont Verizon. I worked with MA, NH, ME and VT on safety. Teaching safety classes and pole top rescue. I loved the job. » Posted By Nirek On June 6, 2013 @ 3:44 am Sunday we had a storm come by with 75 MPH straight line winds. It blew down a 100 foot tall white pine which grazed my house and broke the power, telephone, and TV lines. We had no power fro 38 hours. I have all the tree cut and moved except about 7 feet of the trunk. My saw is too short to cut through the trunk so I’m slicing wedge shaped pieces off it. At 67 this is the kind of work I like but I don’t want to see this happen again. Lost all the frozen food and also most in the frig. next I have to get up on the roof and do small repairs. » Posted By Nirek On June 5, 2013 @ 4:49 pm KT, the nation could get more revenue through those same taxes if pot were legal. Pot is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. Yet it is illegal ! Think about the jobs that would be created if it were legalized. Farmers , packagers, inspectors, stores. And they would all be paying taxes as well. Think about the other good things that would happen, police free to chase down real crooks, prisons holding bad guys and not pot users. I don’t use alcohol , tobacco, or pot, btw. » Posted By Nirek On May 31, 2013 @ 2:24 pm Kalima, only one problem, she is still there until her term is up. Otherwise, Yaaaaay! » Posted By Nirek On May 29, 2013 @ 3:46 pm Thank you , Sally. I hope you have a great weekend, too. » Posted By Nirek On May 27, 2013 @ 2:26 pm I just heard an “expert” on bridges say that fuel efficient cars are part of the cause of the bridges collapsing. His “reasoning” is that we are using less gas so paying less taxes into the highway funds. I heard this same argument here in Vermont a couple weeks ago and the gas tax was raised by 6 cents a gal. in this state. My question is where is the money going if they don’t make the repairs? The fuel efficient cars have nothing to do with this problem. They have diverted the gas tax money to other funds. If they had not diverted it they could have done all the repairs and maintenance needed. To me blaming fuel efficient cars is STUPID! » Posted By Nirek On May 27, 2013 @ 4:46 am Kalima, I agree 100% that the IRS needs to check out any political group asking for tax exemption. Those on either side. Whether they are left right or center, if they are political , they should not be tax exempt. » Posted By Nirek On May 26, 2013 @ 9:03 am Memorial weekend. I remember my Dad, a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was a great Dad. When I came home from Vietnam in Nov. 1969 and he heard me having a nightmare he made me talk all night about my experience. He also for the first time shared his experiences in WWII and Korea. For a man with only high school, he had a ton of wisdom. His talk with me , save me from more nightmares and PTSD. I also remember all our veterans and their families for their sacrifice for our benefit. » Posted By Nirek On May 26, 2013 @ 6:05 am It seems to me that the republican party is in the middle of an (uncivil war). They have the regular “conservatives” and the “TP conservatives/obstructionists” and both sides are saying “nice ” things about how they trust each other, or NOT. I doubt that the GOP will survive this uncivil war. » Posted By Nirek On May 25, 2013 @ 3:42 am Our President asked for infrastructure repairs in the sequestration and fiscal cliff deals. It fell on deaf ears in the GOP/TP. Now a bridge collapsed in Washington state. Roads bridges and other infrastructure need repair badly and we need jobs. That would be a win win, but the TP/GOP can’t see past their ignorance. » Posted By Nirek On May 24, 2013 @ 3:45 am Sally, I heard that they have bedrock so close to the surface and it would require blasting to dig the cellars. Either way I would have one with pumps to drain water. » Posted By Nirek On May 22, 2013 @ 12:33 pm Ad, they want to take from others to help themselves. That is about what the Senators want. How about taking from their funds for reelection? » Posted By Nirek On May 22, 2013 @ 3:32 am CL, can you explain why they don’t have cellars at the schools to bring the kids to? Also why not have basements for the houses? Seems to me that would be prudent. » Posted By Nirek On May 21, 2013 @ 12:12 pm Ad, they taze peaceful occupy protesters but allow the Westboro Baptist Church disrupt funerals for innocent folks and veterans. It is disgraceful. » Posted By Nirek On May 21, 2013 @ 12:07 pm I wish the best for the folks in Oklahoma. Especially the kids in that school that was demolished. Red state or not, we need to help. » Posted By Nirek On May 20, 2013 @ 3:31 pm I can’t help wondering if after all the investigating is done the scandals will prove to be part of the GOP “dirty tricks” from their past? Like maybe they set the IRS up to do the deed. Or they leaked this or that. » Posted By Nirek On May 19, 2013 @ 11:53 am Glenn, these TP/GOPers think they are real Americans. » Posted By Nirek On May 18, 2013 @ 4:03 pm Kalima, I am a former Catholic. I still believe in Christ, just not the church and its idiosyncratic ideas about some things. To me there is too much pomp and such and not enough caring for people. » Posted By Nirek On May 18, 2013 @ 3:31 am Kalima, good for you! 30 years is very respectable. You hit the nail on the head with mutual respect. » Posted By Nirek On May 17, 2013 @ 5:15 pm Sally, I agree! No political group should be tax exempt. » Posted By Nirek On May 17, 2013 @ 5:08 pm Too true, Ad. » Posted By Nirek On May 17, 2013 @ 3:04 pm Ad,at the risk of sounding PWed I think if a man makes a vow , he ought to live up to it. Women deserve our respect. Women also make the vow in a marriage and they too should live up to that vow. Sorry to say , too many marriages end in divorce. I didn’t get married until I was 27 and we have been married 40 years now. I can’t help wondering if waiting until you are done sowing all the wild oats isn’t a good idea? » Posted By Nirek On May 17, 2013 @ 3:02 pm Ad, where is all their righteous indignation now? They edited the emails that they leaked. Now they are caught. » Posted By Nirek On May 17, 2013 @ 9:40 am CL,I guess I was a little hasty. What I’d like to see is loopholes for the rich and corporations closed. Also nonprofit organizations should be nonpartisan as well. Nonpolitical nonprofits are okay with me. Some churches that cross the line should lose their nonprofit designation. I also believe it should be hard to get tax exemption. » Posted By Nirek On May 16, 2013 @ 3:38 am There is a way to eliminate a lot of corruption in our country and increase the revenue without an increase in taxes. That way would be to make all groups pay taxes. Eliminate tax exemption for all businesses and all churches. » Posted By Nirek On May 15, 2013 @ 4:52 am To all mothers on the planet. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!! » Posted By Nirek On May 12, 2013 @ 9:51 am AB, maybe I should have read your post before I wrote mine. You do speak for me. » Posted By Nirek On May 12, 2013 @ 9:50 am Kes’, I’ll pray that you return soon in good shape. Hope all goes well. » Posted By Nirek On May 12, 2013 @ 9:48 amComments Posted By Nirek
I wish she would Sarah Palin, and quit mid term.
This is the time for FEMA to get in there and help.
It is sad to think of them as Americans of any stripe.
Un=American fits them.
Living together for 3 years gave you time to really see what each other was like. More people should do that before jumping into a commitment.
