What will happen when the next election comes up? The Tea Party congressmen will win their gerrymandered positions. But the moderate Republicans will have a fight on their hands. Maybe the Democrats can take back the House and bring some sanity back to our government.

Ad, our founding fathers intended for citizens to serve in the legislature for a term or two and then return home to their jobs or businesses. America has devolved to having professional legislators. America would do well to return to citizens serving a term or two . Term limits is the only way I see to get there.

I don’t think the Congress should be paid if they don’t do their work. The GOP wants the law known as “Affordable Care Act” or “Obama care” overturned or they will shut down the government. If the government is shut down , the Congress should NOT receive any pay or benefits.

Kalima, this is a big deal. It is proof that diplomacy is alive and well. Diplomacy works so much better than WAR.
As you may know I was an infantryman in Vietnam and came home against WAR. Peace is the best thing and diplomacy is the best way to achieve PEACE.
The President seems to understand that.

POTUS, is a “peace maker”. He spoke to the President of Iran today. The first time a US President has spoken to an Iranian President since 1979. He is talking about ending nuclear weapons research by Iran. Trying to talk with our enemies is making peace. Look at Syria and their chemical weapons. The President has extracted a treaty signing by the Syrians !

Two rouge nations with weapons of mass destruction talking about relinquishing them. This is progress.

Ad, thanks for that. I know that there is a trust fund for Social Security. That trust fund is full of monies to pay out to recipients and also full of IOUs the congress put there when they raided the fund.

What is going to happen if the military is not paid? And other government agencies?

Ad, is it true that Social Security will still pay us ? That the military will still get paid? That politicians will still be over paid? Will the mail still go through? If the government is shut down, will all this still happen? Or will the SS stop, mail stop, military be in disarray?

Sally, the GOP doesn’t call contractors government workers. The contractors in WAR zones are paid more than the military but it all comes out of the extremely inflated defense budget. You are correct about the top people getting the lions share of the pay.

The news is coming fast. Syria and Russia have agreed to give a list of their chemical weapons and where they are. To allow international people to go in and secure them and destroy them.

The main stream media is saying that this makes Obama look weak and silly. I say it is a big feather in President Obama’s cap! This news is far better than simply degrading Assad’s capability of using them. Now they will be destroyed in a safe and verifiable way.

How can this not be a good thing? Diplomacy is working , jump started by a threat of force. To me the President is a great leader. Not a single missile fired and we have Assad signed on to the chemical weapons treaty.

The only possible reason for the GOP to find fault with this news is that they hate the President. It is a BIG win for the USA and the GOP is trying to belittle the President? Crazy!

Ad, before I was drafted I was a hunter. After I returned from Vietnam I went out hunting with my brother and every shot I heard I went down flat on the ground. That was the last time I ever went hunting. I sold my gun and never have touched one since. I go into the woods now but not during hunting season.

For self defense at my home we lock our doors and I have my cane if need be. No guns here.
