My kids now in their high thirties were always conservation conscience as my wife and I have been. They took the initiative of forming a group at their high school to go into the river to pull tires and other debris out of the water and recycle it. Not everyone cares about other people or the environment at a young age. Some come around in college or even later in life. All you can do is give them love and facts. They will learn fro you even when you don’t think so. » Posted By Nirek On December 13, 2013 @ 11:59 am Anyone wonder why certain “buzz words” keep showing up in advertisements Let me know if I’m wrong. » Posted By Nirek On December 13, 2013 @ 8:03 am It is a start, Ad. Maybe they will address unemployment after the first of the year. One can only hope. » Posted By Nirek On December 12, 2013 @ 5:36 pm I’m anxious for the weekend music of KT fame this week. We have so many new friends who will likely enjoy it. KT , it is always fun on Saturday night to hear all the great music. » Posted By Nirek On December 12, 2013 @ 1:13 pm Sally, if Social Security had a higher income cap it would be able to improve benefits and always be financially fine. » Posted By Nirek On December 12, 2013 @ 4:38 am Welcome Coco! It’s all good here. hope to see more from you in Off Topic. Peace » Posted By Nirek On December 11, 2013 @ 6:17 pm Anyone else notice the word “prosperity” being used a lot by the Republicans in an effort to camouflage the fact that the Koch brothers are behind them? “Prosperity” seems to be their buzzword. » Posted By Nirek On December 11, 2013 @ 3:51 pm McD and Starbuck execs are paid 9200 per hour. This seems kind of crazy to me. I know they are “talented” but let me say NOBODY is that talented! » Posted By Nirek On December 11, 2013 @ 3:22 pm What is needed is more women and more honest hard working people in executive positions and far fewer bonuses given to them. » Posted By Nirek On December 11, 2013 @ 2:53 pm Ad, there is now a whole lot of chatter about the “handshake” ! Turns out I was quite right about the uproar, huh? » Posted By Nirek On December 11, 2013 @ 2:39 pm Kalima, I saw a headline saying that the ACA (Obamacare) has enrolled 1 million to date. That is good news. BTW (Obama does care)! » Posted By Nirek On December 11, 2013 @ 1:29 pm Just heard a report about women in executive positions. GM has a new CEO and she is a car girl. They say that boards are made up of mostly men. They said it is about “talent”. I say bullshit! It is about who you are and who you know and how much money you have. Talent has little if anything to do with it, after all they don’t turn a wrench or sweep a floor or even design a new vehicle. They sit and collect BIG bonuses at the expense of the people who actually do the work that earns the company money. It takes months for a worker to earn as much as an exec gets paid for a couple hours. That is wrong. In my opinion we need not only a minimum wage but a maximum wage in American. » Posted By Nirek On December 11, 2013 @ 7:56 am Thank you , Kalima. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 4:28 pm So, it looks like there might be a budget after all. Ryan got more money for the military. I’m not sure what the Democrats got. Sequester is going forward with some changes. I’m sure we will have the information eventually. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 3:48 pm Kalima, this guy is ignorant. There can’t be another reason he would make such a stupid statement. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 2:44 pm Isn’t it strange that if we lie to the government it is a felony but if they lie to us it is politics? Lying should be against the law for politicians. That way we would have a whole lot of new people in government. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 1:35 pm Ad, I thought I was a pundit. America has its faults, our relations with Cuba is one that we could right with very little effort. Cuba could become a good neighbor given half a chance. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 1:32 pm Ad, this may be the beginning of something really BIG. PEACE! » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 12:51 pm Done. Thanks for doing that, Ad. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 12:49 pm Kalima, I knew it would not take too long for the hate mongers to show their ugly heads. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 12:45 pm The President at the memorial for Nelson Mandela, shook hands with Raul Castro! That is the first thing that has to happen before normal relations with a country that lies 90 short miles from the USA. How long before the tea party folks start complaining that Obama had the audacity to do such a thing? Once again, peace. » Posted By Nirek On December 10, 2013 @ 4:12 am Yup, I’m back with another random thought. Tomorrow POTUS will speak at the memorial service in South Africa for the World Class leader, Nelson Mandela. I hope and pray that all goes well there. There will be a bunch of leaders from all over the world. Let there be peace there and all over the world. Peace to all. » Posted By Nirek On December 9, 2013 @ 1:41 pm Thank you Ad for this OT site. I have so many random thoughts that are all off topic. This weekend is the one year mark for the Newtown shooting. The loved ones of those innocent victims have asked the media to keep away. I hope they do and I hope the politicians will be sensitive to the families of the young victims. Rand Paul said that cutting the unemployment benefits after 26 weeks is helping the unemployed?????? Illogical! What world is he living in? Uranus? I went to my daughters house Saturday night to babysit so they could host their company Christmas party. That is why I didn’t take part as much as I would like with the weekend music. Then Sunday I couldn’t get on the site at all. I guess Ad won the wrestling match with tech! Ad, you are my hero! World champ tech wrestler! More when my mind shifts gears. » Posted By Nirek On December 9, 2013 @ 1:24 pm I think that history will look at Obama kindly, Kalima. Much like Mr. Mandelia, Obama is being vilified by his detractors. » Posted By Nirek On December 5, 2013 @ 5:44 pm Kalima, Mr. Mandela set a wonderful example for all of us. He lived life the way Jesus would have liked. The world is a better place because he was here. Rest in peace, sir. » Posted By Nirek On December 5, 2013 @ 2:13 pm Kes, greed is the root cause of this problem. Those who get lucky and make a lot of money want more. Even though they could not possibly spend all their fortune in their life time they want MORE! At the expense of the working poor. » Posted By Nirek On December 5, 2013 @ 4:28 am They keep trying to deregulate, Kes. That seems to be all they want to do , get rid of those pesky regulations. All , like you say, to benefit the 1%, their owners. » Posted By Nirek On December 4, 2013 @ 4:43 pm Now the “Speaker of the House” wants to cut off unemployment ? Why not cut subsidies to oil, nuclear, coal, and Walmart (oh , how is Walmart subsidized? They pay low wages and their employees have to get food stamps. That is a subsidy in my book). Helping the working poor is NOT adding to the deficit. Helping oil, coal, nuclear, pipelines, and yes Walmart, yup, that is adding to the deficit. » Posted By Nirek On December 4, 2013 @ 2:19 pm My wife and I were watching a movie on network TV and a commercial came on. I can’t tell you what it was for because I try to ignore those crass things. It did get my attention because to me it was demeaning to women. A group of women were in a book club and reading some of their books aloud. In comes some jerk of a guy and asks to read something. He reads some kind of instruction for whatever the add was for, and the women go gaga and clap for the jerk. I feel that women are smarter and stronger than the advertisement made them look. Women should not feel they have to consent to this kind of treatment. » Posted By Nirek On December 1, 2013 @ 4:25 pmComments Posted By Nirek
I wonder how many more will take place before the politicians see the need to do something about guns?
by the tea party? “Train wreck”, “prosperity”, and “failed” come to mind. When I hear those key words I think the speaker might well be a tea party lackey of the Koch brothers.
No , talent has nothing to do with an executive being where he is.
I knew they would get their panties in a twist over the hand shake. That hand shake could lead to something much bigger and better. All because of Mr. Mandela. He keeps having an impact even after he has passed.
My respect for Mr. Mandela is higher than almost anyone else. On a par with the new Pope Francis. Mr. Mandela showed us how to forgive but not forget. That is what leads to peace!
Cheers.
