Displaying 0 To 0 Of 0 Comments She was born Jan. 28, 1920 and was only two years older than her nephew, my Dad. They were more like brother and sister than Aunt and Nephew. The last few years I have driven her to every Dr. apt. and we have had wonderful conversations. We would go to lunch after an appointment and visit. She passed away this afternoon at about 3 PM. This morning I was at her bedside and she was in a rally she said I know I’m dying. Told me she would give my love to my folks. My heart has a hole in it that can never be filled. Aunt Helen was the last of her generation in our family. Eloise came six days ago and Aunt Helen knew that she would not be around long. Back to five generations in this family. Heaven has a new resident. The day after Christmas my niece gave birth to a little girl. It is special for it was named after my Mother and her other Great Great Great Grandmother( Eloise ) the “El” is for my Mom Ellen and “oise ” for the other lady who happened to be my Mom’s best friend as well ( Louise). Also she was born on my birthday. She is healthy and beautiful and is special even without all the coincidences. Too many versions and interpretations and rewrites to be absolutely true 100%. » Posted By Nirek On December 27, 2013 @ 4:20 pm The linemen who are working hard to restore power and telephone service to the people in the affected areas, Northern Vermont and other parts of our country have a really hard job. We need to be patient with them. It is a dangerous job in normal circumstances. I was on of them when we had an ice storm in 1998. Much of our pole lines are in the right of way not along the side of the road. So you have to climb the pole which is coated with ice. Climbing a pole is hard enough without ice on it. Each step up you have to chip the ice off and then dig into the wood. You have to put your safety strap on around the pole at the bottom because the ice is too slick for you to climb without the strap. Trust me it is not easy. Then when you get to where the work is you have to chip ice away from where you need to work and everything is heavy. Heavier than normal because of the weight of ice. My point is that these guys doing a hard job are unsung hero’s. It seems to me that the people doing the work are more capable than a “contractor”. As a telephone lineman I experienced the shoddy “work” done by “contractors” hired by NYNEX, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon. They hired them to bust the union. The “contractors” did substandard work. That is a good thing. Now in the con column, The calls could be in a better time of the day. When I get a call after 8PM I am grumpy for being interrupted during what I call family time. Do the people making the calls have to be foreign folks with accents that are hard to understand? It seems like all of them are from India or the Philippians with English as a second language. I’m hard of hearing and have trouble understanding some Americans due to their accents. We traveled all over. As a kid I went to school in Germany, Panama, and all over the Eastern US. I know what it is to be away from family. So I wish you two the very best Christmas ever. Kalima, I spent two weeks of my tour in Vietnam on R&R in Japan. The people were wonderful to me and I went to Yokohama, Osaka, and Tokyo. The only “contract work” that was well done was when we had a workhorse and his handler work with us pulling cable and the lashing machine through the right of way.
Some of the calls I get are recordings and at the end there is an option to be taken off their call list. I heard on a news program that if you do that they know they got a real home and will call all the more.
I have a nephew and his family down under. He is a Constable somewhere.
