Ok, here I go again. Beginning to think I am cursed.

I am trying to put my images into place for a post I am submitting. I get the upload, but I do not see the “Use as feature image” I did last week not this week.

From the How To Page: When it has uploaded, click the “Use as featured image” link at the bottom of the uploaded image’s box, for “Alignment” select “Center”, for “Size” select “Medium then click on “Insert Into Post”.

Maybe I am going mad?

Yep, did each of those steps. All back to normal.

AD LIB….hi!

Thanks for the note about Spam.

No, nothing was going to my Spam Folder. I reset all of the blocks on my home mailbox and reset my notifications and subscriptions here. Everything has returned to normal so if you were not experiencing any issue, it was on my end with your server. I was not having problems with anyone else, but I do know that sometimes home preferences get out of synch with a site and you get trouble. MAC’s way of doing that is to block anything it regards as an unknown.

Bito…hey!!!!!

Ok. Understood.

I definitely had problems yesterday but I reset everything on my end and we appear to be back to normal. Thanks for the attention.

Just sent the admin team two messages via e mail.

Tried to open the Help Page one more time, and it worked.

So maybe the kink is unkinked.

Live blog tonight for the GOP debate?

Kalima…

Thank you for your response. Like I said your decisions re. how now posts are presented are editorial based on your knowledge of your readership, and your contributing members, and the issues you want to move front and center. Understood.

I am new here, and I bring my tendency to question with me. I also bring my clumsy engagement with technology and appreciate the patience of those who do it so naturally.

I will be donating. Do you all do e-mail “drives”. One site I work with, sends out a reminder once a month. It is gentle, polite, inviting an it works.

Take care.

Looked at all the site structures you pointed to. You were very precise and complete. Much appreciated. Think I understand them now and see the rationale for each.

Generally makes sense.

I do think that some of the Featured Slider stories are a bit long in the tooth and do not seem to be attracting comments. I suggest that you will encourage more writing if new stories are more prominently displayed. But that is an editorial call.

I have updated my subscriptions to be sure I get notices regarding new posts.

Speaking of support for the site. How do you do it? Do you request donations?

Find the Planet a welcome breather from my other two blogging efforts. Thanks for the opportunity.

Cher…..

Yes I did not perceive the difference in the two columns. You made it clear. Thank you.

AdLib

Hmmmm

The Recent Post Widget moves pretty quickly so that would have only a temporary notification value.

The e mail. I did not get one but perhaps the author does not.

If these are your two methods let me endorse my suggestion again. I think there needs to be a way for folks to see at least a list of the newest articles from the front page.

If I get an e mail or other notification of an article that is good, but to see a list of the newest articles (plus your featured pieces on the Home Page would be better, I think.

I note that the box at the top of the home page features thumbnails of articles but most of them are on that page below the box.

Hi,

Glad to see my new effort published.

It took me a while to find it using the drop downs.

Is there some trick in finding new articles that I am missing- a home page masthead etc.?

If there is not, given how much time it takes to produce researched articles, comments from a handful of readers is disappointing.

I know we have the box at the top of the home page which shows off featured articles? Some have been around for quite a while.

If space in featured article box is at a premium, then you might want to consider having a “pointer” banner that at least announces new articles in a stream. All that it need have is a title and author with a link.

Kalima. Thanks for the coaching.

That Screen Options Button is really important. I will keep it in mind.

Re. Tags. I added “Progressive Movement, 99 Percent Movement, Occupy Wall Street Movement”…Don’t see them. No problem but I may have missed a step.

Each time I will get more proficient.

Bito- hi

I read the post, printed it out and followed it as best I could. It was quite helpful. Those who are computer savvy often work through such directions with greater ease than troglodytes like myself.

I discovered tonight that I had to change some settings (under screen options) on the posting page to see the full list of options. One of them was the excerpt function. I figured it out via the WP Help Menu and a forum.

I describe this more fully for Kalima below.

My aim is to get to the point that I do all of this automatically.

Again, my thanks.

Kalima— Hello

…I misunderstood that you were going to put in the excerpt for me. Much appreciated. The morning postingis great.

1) I spent some time on the WordPress help page and at a WP forum. Found the Excerpt Slot. The key was clicking on “Screen Options” on the right side of the page which then showed two option groups (“Show On Screen”, “Screen Layout”) between “Planet POV” and “Edit Post”.

In the “Show On Screen” group you have to check “Excerpt” and then it appears below the text box on the left side. Mystery solved.

2) The featured image: From the directions I thought that image above the story and below the headline could be used for both purposes. Must have misread them. So I need two images for each story. Yes? I will work on this next time.

3) I also noticed that while I had the option to add Post Tags you all edited out the ones I added. Are we supposed to only use the ones already listed?

Again, thank you.

If you are busy, then take your time in dealing with this. I understand. I can see how hot Time Out for O/T is.

1) I am sorry the excerpt button is not there. I have looked for the the second box on the right hand side. Big blue oval. Not there. I have even done a search on the page for the word “excerpt.”

So…..what am I supposed to do?

I prepared this excerpt and would be happy to put it in if I could. Here it is.

“Though diverse in many ways what the One Percenters have in common is the extraordinary amount of the nation’s wealth they control.”

2. I noticed that there is another featured image on the edit page than the one I chose. The preview still shows the one I chose. That image is from wikipedia’s free library. Should be ok. Right?

Just trying to do this correctly.

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 7:44 pm

I see you are editing my submission. Here is the excerpt I would suggest.

“Though diverse in many ways what the One Percents have in common is the extraordinary amount of the nation’s wealth they control.”

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 6:40 pm

Kalima, Bita

Thanks for the Help.

I fear that the Excerpt Button is not visible for me. Perhaps it is my operating system Mac OS10

I will communicated with AdLib re. the excerpt I would like to use.

I think I got everything else correct.

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 6:35 pm

I am sorry. Just do not see it. Feeling stupid.

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 5:27 pm

Where is the Post Box?

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 5:18 pm

I am finishing up an article for posting and cannot find the instructions for creating an “excerpt”. Anyone know how to do this?

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 5:02 pm

Got it. There are a few false trails.

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 11:05 am

Found it. That is last night’s which is what I was looking for. What if I were looking for October 7?

The other drop downs that take you to “archives” or “previous editions” seem to be out of date.

I am not complaining…just wondering.

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 7:51 am

Ok. Then I went to live events, vox populi and selected previous editions and got a page with a series of dates that runfrom 12/4/09 to 9/17/10

https://planetpov.com/live-events/vox-populi/previous-editions/

The previous comment related to this page
https://planetpov.com/category/planetpov/vox-populi/

Then I found it at
https://planetpov.com/live-events/vox-populi/

So you were correct….go to Live Events and Just Click on Vox….what are the others?

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 7:46 am

Hi…thanks for the reply. I did and the Archive shows a article by JMBrodie, an invitation to join in dated 9/24/10; and one for 8/20/10 etc.

Nothing for 10/14/11?

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 7:35 am

How do I get back to last night’s Vox talk?

The archive does not appear to be current.

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 15, 2011 @ 6:22 am

Hey AdLib….enjoyed my first Friday Night Vox Pop……

Well done. The Planet is a sane place in the crazy world of blogging.

My suggestion is to put the message composition box at the top of the scrolling box so the writer can keep an eye on the conversation taking place. Can this be done? You write. You send, And your post pops in right below where you wrote it AND you have not lost track of the conversation.

You and your fellow coordinators are doing yeoman (and yeowoman) service.

» Posted By MurphTheSurf3 On October 14, 2011 @ 9:17 pm

Hey Ad Lib….getting some tutoring from some of the veterans here. Helpful.

I have an image (candle) and a phrase (Proud to be an Independent Progressive) that I would like to have show up in my comment boxes. The image is showing up in the Recent Comments but nowhere else.

I think I have read everything I should and done all I can. Yes?

Your guidance.
