Good luck with that task! It reminds me of the time we bought a new ‘puter and I put in one of my thousands of floppies that we had only to remember – as it fell all the way down and hit the bottom of the casing – we’d decided not to have a floppy drive installed. The silly ‘puter people just left the opening there 😆

The only way I know of, Gransview, is to scroll to the top or bottom and keep clickiing << Older comments until you get to page 1 ..... we don't have a page number system to allow yoou to jump right back to page 1. Bito, Kalima or AdLib would know more or whether there are plans to put in a page number

Absolutely!! I can talk to conservatives (indeed, in the UK my entire family went from Labour supporters to Maggie Thatcher conservatives and we still talk – and talk politics) about particular policies and the philosphical underpinnings and disagree in a civil ways or agree if some good points have been made. The minute anybody CAPITALIZES to yell at me or implies that I’m an idiot and doesn’t explain their reasoning then they’ve lost both the argument and me!! You’re correct – it turns into a pissing contest and I don’t indulge in those.

I never joined HuffPoo mainly because it looked as if it had become a minefield ….. yes, there were a lot of good posters there making very good debating points but I got tired, as a reader, wading through page after page after page of complete and utter dreck to find the few nuggets of gold. Perhaps that’s what the few folks who remain at HuffPoo fail to realise – whatever good points they may be making, whoever they think they may be trying to persuade, is all lost and buried by the time their comments are finally allowed through. It would be great to find a popular mainstream news site that reached a vast number of people where honest debate and discussion occurred but there isn’t. The closest one I’ve found is Frum’s Forum but I have no idea what their hits ‘n clicks are like.

The Planet fills a valuable niche imo – and is fully reflective of what the founders envisioned. I am eternally grateful to them.

Good grief – like Bito, I read the whole thing and I still haven’t got a clue! When a ‘discussion’ goes in circles and you get a headache it’s ‘cos you’ve been banging your head on a brick wall!!

Kudos to everyone who was so patient and trying to get to the nub of the issue – you are better people than I. The greatest thing that’s happened over the last couple of weeks has been the explosion of articles, reasoned comments, thoughtful disagreements and wonderful folks who don’t all think alike except we all want to talk to each other – my only complaint is that there are not enough hours in the day to read and comment as I would like.

I just saw the Governor on PBS – he said (paraphrasing) the deficit problems cannot be solved on the backs of the middle class – HUH???? – what does he think the union people are (hint – teachers, police, fire …. ). Do these people really think before they open their mouths and parrot platitudes?

I love the AWOL Dems – way to go – UNIONS FOREVER!!

I don’t think anything can be done until the politicians stand up to it themselves – if they stay silent then they are tacitly approving it – they may privately think it’s disgusting but they want to be re-elected and it’s a political calculation. But this will bite them in the arse sooner or later – either society will come to it’s senses and loudly and ringingly repudiate this tribalism and the politicians who did not speak out or society will disintegrate into it’s worst elements. We all fear that it’s started already.

Whenever I hear folks yelling about Freedom of Speech I think that they, in their enthusiastic rush to be free to speak vile words, have forgotten that along with freedom comes responsibility …… too many people vigourously claim their rights but gleefully leave any sense of reponsibility in the ditch along with all that makes society civilzed

I have a Photobucket account – copy the direct link which starts http:// and then, back at the Planet, click on the line below the reply box that says ‘add an image to your comment by clicking here – a box pops up, paste your http link there, click ok and Hey Presto.

A quicker way is to paste your http link in your replay and then enclose your link between [ img] ……. [ /img] – the only problem I have is that all my collected smilies keep showing up here as way too big 🙄

I was chatting with a friend today, while cooking up a pot of White Hot Chicken Chili, moaning about dust bunnies and dog hair and how I didn’t have time ‘cos of all the surfin’ I had to do ….. so she sent me a poem and now I don’t worry anny more:

I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess.
He asked if I’d been ‘computering’,
And I had to answer ‘yes.’

He told me to get off my fanny,
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up…
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick….
I was just admiring my good work.

I didn’t mean to ‘click.’

But click, I did, and oops – I found
A real absorbing site
That I got SO way into it –
I was into it all night.
Nothing’s changed except my mouse.
It’s very, very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess……
While I sit here on my hiney.
