And bad? That was awesome. I almost expected Colbert to jump in dancing! » Posted By Khirad On December 8, 2011 @ 5:59 am I merely mean to say that considering the implied concerns over any residual forces, private or not, this reality makes those fears kinda irrelevant, or at least ancillary? What I’ve demonstrated in part here is that Iraq has taken back control, for better or worse. » Posted By Khirad On December 21, 2011 @ 5:37 pm I’ll just say this. Remember how after a close, contested election in 2010, it took eight whole months to settle on a power sharing agreement? (I do, it was in my top 10 of 2010)— http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-11732158 Well, just as our troops were leaving Shi‘a PM Al-Maliki arrested the Sunni Vice President Tariq Al-Hashimi on what appear to politically motivated charges. Iyad Allawi, a political ally of Al-Hashemi who himself ‘lost’ that last election (even though his party won two more seats), has protested saying Maliki is acting like Saddam. Best case scenario, we’ve given them a “robust” and “rambunctious” democracy. In any case, it looks as if we really have cut our strings, and that they are now acting on their own, independent of what we say. I’d say that immediate power grab, in concert with the withdrawal, is more than symbolic. Hooray? » Posted By Khirad On December 21, 2011 @ 4:11 pm I used to shop there with my family, especially around this time of year. Fun fact, it used to have an ice rink that was the only place I’ve ever skated. Same ice rink Tonya Harding trained on. In any case, when I heard about this I thought it was another popular mall in Portland adjacent to a tough neighborhood where gang related shootings happen occasionally (Lloyd Center). Not until I heard the details did I realize it was more Aurora… So surreal. I know that place very well. » Posted By Khirad On December 11, 2012 @ 11:35 pm Romney’s Terrifying Google Search History Leaked » Posted By Khirad On October 20, 2012 @ 9:24 am Sorry if this has been done already. » Posted By Khirad On October 17, 2012 @ 8:55 am I saw the twitter feed about gay marriage in Washington. Here’s the thing, that’s only half of it. Gay marriage is polling 55/40 Even Senator Cantwell’s GOP challenger is now advocating legalizing pot with those numbers! http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2012/10/05/gay-marriage-marijuana-well-ahead-in-poll/ I’ve gotta say I’d be so happy with this, if only to make Californians jealous. 😉 As the state motto goes, “bye and bye” to intolerance and a victimless crime. » Posted By Khirad On October 9, 2012 @ 10:36 pm St. Petersburg Park To Be Named After ‘Mr. Trololo’ » Posted By Khirad On October 8, 2012 @ 10:46 am Pic http://www.loonwatch.com/2012/10/islamic-center-of-greater-toledo-targeted-by-arsonist/ » Posted By Khirad On October 4, 2012 @ 10:29 am When the declassified goes unnoticed… A Classified CIA Mea Culpa on Iraq » Posted By Khirad On September 5, 2012 @ 10:33 am Imagine if a junior officer on the Titanic had taken the helm from the captain after he had run the ship into an iceberg, and that junior officer had somehow managed to right the ship and stop it form sinking. Do you think the passengers and the rest of the crew would have spent the journey back to port complaining that the ship was moving too slowly or that the tea was too tepid? Would they have complained that the officer didn’t save the ship fast enough or chide him for blaming the captain? Would they have demanded that the ship turn around and take another run at the iceberg? Because that’s what a Romney presidency promises, another run at that iceberg. – DH Stone From the Pragmatic Progressive Page on Facebook. » Posted By Khirad On September 3, 2012 @ 9:54 pm
