A warning about trolls

cat, someone saw a civil post I made to her and unfanned me. What a riot, no? Boo hoo. LOL.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:45 pm

That’s a good question. Makes one wonder, no?

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:40 pm

Really? I guess anyone can do that, no?

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:38 pm

Well, she did turn me down, stating she didn’t want to crash anyone’s party, so it is probably a moot question. It just strikes me as non Progressive for us to hold grudges from another site. Maybe if everyone were respectful, she would respond in kind. I’d like to think this site is above the HP rabble. Don’t we have a moderator here?

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:35 pm

Well, I don’t disagree with that, but we’ve had a couple of civil conversations AWAY from the main or where everyone is. I get the feeling she’s playing a game of being the contrarian almost as a protest at the left dominated comment section. Besides, if she does, can’t she just be, well, banned?

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:33 pm

That’s how I feel.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:29 pm

If she does do that, can’t she be escorted out of the site?

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:28 pm

I’ve not seen her do that. I’ve also seen a lot of it from the left, too.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:02 pm

Greetz, Seek. I know who you’re referring to, it’s too bad what has happened.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 5:01 pm

I’ve done that, too. My sock there is HipNip. I haven’t done it in awhile but YouTube is what I would not want to be a part of, so I do believe in having a moderator. HP just goes too far, and treat us like little kids.

AdLib, and the others:

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m working on getting Andrea Castillo to post here. I think people with opposing viewpoints should be allowed to post here, otherwise it turns too partisan and into a group hug. The key is to have discussions in a civil manner and there is a good back and forth. You can even learn something, maybe not agree, but at least respect the other person’s viewpoint.

We all have a diverse background with varying life experiences. That is why we are who we are.

I don’t go for the personal attacks on her. I’ve been rough on her mainly for her youth and inexperience, but I’ve never thought of her as a troll.

She has a lot of spunk to keep coming back after all the really hurtful things people say about her. We speak here about the righties, but some on the left can be just as narrow minded.

If we are really Progressives, we should be big enough people to invite people who have other points of view. I have never seen her call anyone names or get into personal insults.

I like to have a good discussion and that’s why I agreed to participate in the debate on healthcare reform. Wouldn’t you all agree that it was filled with sparks, and though I did not participate, I was told that the fur was flying afterward.

That’s fine by me if someone wants to do that. I’m an upfront guy, what you see is what you get. Hume knows exactly how I feel and I don’t care if Sassy sees it. 86 and I have had a rapproachment and we’re cool.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 4:41 pm

Hi, KQ. Sorry to see you depart HP but I can understand why.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 4:38 pm

I know who it is, too. I have no fight with him, personally, but I’ve seen his interaction with dey, HITO and Seek and don’t understand it.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 4:37 pm

I missed it but have followed Stone’s interviews over a number of years, and there are some things I’ve revealed on HP about my war experience, and here, too, that I have not shared with my family. My wife and three kids don’t know that I’m a vet, and they think my ankle injury was something I just “got”. I don’t want to share it with them because I don’t want them to know what I’ve been through. Once you see a cadaver who you had spoken to just a few minutes before, you’re never the same. That’s what most of these war hawks don’t understand. I don’t want anyone to go through what I did. Cu Chi was one of the hot spots, lots of veteran VC and the firefights were intense. The tunnels are amazing, you have to see it to believe what the human spirit can withstand. I respect the Vietnamese.

Hi AdLib. I’ve been remiss in not coming here sooner. I’ll have more free time later this month so I may write an article or two over the holidays.

I finally overtook her on fan count, but I have nothing against her, either, though I beat her up on her youth and inexperience. She’s a pretty good sport, I almost fanned her a couple of times and may still. She’s definitely not a troll, a bit misguided and too textbook; she’ll learn as she gets older that the school of life is a learning one if you choose to make it that way.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 1:27 pm

You were Raz? OMG, my head is sooo far up my ass. LMAO

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 1:22 pm

I can see your point, but it does two things: it drives the trolls nuts, they blink and their posts are on page 5; it’s called shove out posts. The second thing is: by the end of a long day of discussion, you just run out of things to say. There’s always PPov for that. Most of us are here. I love the music, I download the songs/albums and put it in my playlist and I also play the clips while I surf HP.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 1:16 pm

I always seem to miss your entries but at least we have communicated on HP.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 1:13 pm

You know, I read the comments on the YouTube clips, the articles’ comment sections, and on other sites and they make HP’s nastiest comments seem mild. I think I’m going to copy and paste some of them and send it in to HP to show them how well behaved and civilized we are. (that’s no joke)

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 12:45 pm

I agree, but we’re not the ones doing the attacking, just expressing our disagreement. I’ve never instigated anything with a fellow progressive, only with the retards on the right. We are Progressives, who are educated and can think for ourselves, aren’t we?

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 12:40 pm

O, there are four people who I know of that criticize other Progressives, Hume, 86, SassySafrine and RepublicansRejected. They all toe the Obama line and feel that any dissenter is not a worthy Progressive. I’m not saying that’s who Pepe is alluding to, only from my own observations. Three of them went off on me. RR is the only one who hasn’t but things are not cool between us. I think he sees me as a traitor and I see him as a Kool Aid drinker, but there’s been no direct animosity between us.

Trolls are sad people with no lives. There were trolls on newsgroups that would make the HP ones seem like wimps. And they can dish it out, but can’t take it. I learned how to use words as a weapon in those newsgroups, dealt with a stalker for 8 years, and he finally got banned, which is quite different than a HP banning where you come back the next day with a different sock.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 12:26 pm

Typo slurring, that’s funny. I have an iMac with a big screen, but the type size over there, unlike here, makes me miss typos as my eyesight is getting worse. Being 61 is a good thing in a lot of ways, but vision is not one of them.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 12:21 pm

That’s exactly what he did. I was already arguing with him about Afghanistan when she came into it on my side, and that’s when it happened. Lorne actually stayed out of it except to warn Hume if he kept mocking people.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 12:18 pm

Yes, Mika is gone, at least for awhile. She and I got into it with Hume and he made fun of her, like she was someone’s little girl. It is an increasingly disturbing trend over there and I’m not gonna give anyone a free pass anymore. Funny, when digital, lornejl and I pushed back, Hume got all ticked off so I know I can get under his skin. He’d better not do it again.

As lorne said, it’s ok to express an opinion, but not ok for mocking a fellow Progressive you don’t agree with.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 11:29 am

Pep, you have never seen me call other progressives names when we disagree. But I’ve seen Hume, Agent 86, Sassy do that and it’s not right. I let it slide with Sassy when she called me stupid and a liar but that’s her last free pass. Next time I fire back.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 10:56 am

Well, it’s not scrub proof on all threads, but I use the _underscore to thwart the censors. It usually works and you don’t have to use weird spelling and it’s easier to read. I’m not sure the scrubbing is all willful on HP’s part. Sometimes it disappears then reappears later.

» Posted By KarateKid On December 8, 2009 @ 10:52 am

Pep, what is bothering me is the increasing intolerance of Progressives toward other Progressives. As you know, a lot of us don’t agree with the healthcare reform bill with Stupak and also the escalation of the war in Afghanistan. I dont’ like it when people like Hume attack Mika, digital and myself just because we voice a contrary opinion. Not all of us march lockstep and drink Kool Aid, and the intolerance is not acceptable and I’m pushing back. So did digital and Mika.
