It’s heartbreaking not being able to go there to try to do something to help. The airport and ports are also badly damaged. The thought that 4,000 prisoners are on the loose and armed is horrific. I pray that help gets there soon and that the security situation will improve enough to allow the aid workers to move freely. They were also isolated because of the drastic changes in their physical appearance, adding insult to injury. It took the Japanese government almost, if not the same amount of years to offer an apology. Just stumbling to the bathroom and back, I decided I needed a cup of tea. It’s 4 in the morning and pitch black. The crows are a big problem here, garbage attacks are fierce. Most people cover their garbage bags with nets, we bought a plastic container on wheels for ours. The noise they make is sometimes deafening, they steal cat food from our garage too. I have a pair of castanets lying in a basket in the hallway, whenever their cawing gets beyond bearable, this looney westerner, goes out into the middle of our street and plays them while twirling. It might look awfully silly to people passing by, but hey, the crows scatter, it works. I’ve finished my cuppa, going back to sleep now. Bye4now. I had no idea that they caught and killed them, there must be a better solution. How unfortunate that some names lend themselves to endless children’s jokes, example Peabody or a very nice university teacher from Madison, Virginia, who lived across from us until about 6 years ago when he retired and returned to the States, a Mr. Kitchen. The Japanese school kids who passed his gate with his name plate on the front, doubled over with unending laughter every time they passed. I miss those times a lot. Where his old house stood for so many years, where his beautiful trees stood straight and tall, there is now an ugly parking lot.
